Major banks will commonly do this. Try B of A or Chase. However, this will NOT help the OP's fiance obtain the visa NOW. They are looking for more "personal" evidence that shows a close personal relationship. A joint bank account doesn't do that and certainly won't work AFTER the visa interview.


Very true. Like Pushbrk said before time together is your best evidence you can do. Accounts, life insurance all that is nothing compared to a few weeks together and the great photo op.

Like many have mentioned something they just wasn't seeing in all those emails and such. I know its hard to show all our personal business but the means justify the ends. You have to show a real personal relationship. Did they name specifics in letter more pics, letters, something? If not get a visit in ASAP. And start building your case from this point onward.

Good god I am the last person to suggest fraud I work for a financial institution and I know some banks allow customers to add an overseas person to make it a joint account allowing for legal use of debit card or add person to credit car as joint account holder

It's been done legally and successfully before but a lot of banks now require a ss number but some allow for joint account holders without it


When I asked my bank they said to fill out a W8BEN to add my foreign spouse. They have to send copies of passport pic and a bill or something with their address on it. Not all banks will do this and also I don't know if it can be done for engaged people. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

What about affidavits from family who know you and of the relationship. I submitted a list of 41 people who know of our relationship, their addresses and phone numbers,. Affidavits from his family and best friend since they know us both and meet us both.
But as Pushbrk said time together is so so key. Nothing no chats no phone-logs can take the place.And confidence in the interview I have read over and over no matter the embassy. You have to be so convincing and never waiver.

Jai and I also have an 18 year age difference with him being younger. I have been with him in India for two months now and plan to be here through the interview, hopefully prior to May (when my visa is up). We have the full support of his family and usually get together with them for a meal everyday. I don't know if religion will be an issue. He's Hindu and I'm open to all religions, but committed to none. We just got NOA2 today! I guess we'll see where it goes from here. :)

I too am older than my husband. I am 21 years older than my husband. I am the american and this is both a 1st marriage for us.
What i have in my favour is - live woith my husband before during and after our marriage in Nigeria for 6 months.
Nigeria you may not know has the highest visa fraud and well everyone is suspect. So just have your papers together seriously think to get married to solidify that relationship and all will be well.

Greetings to everyone on here. I am indeed happy I came across this site and I have read a lot of posts that has indeed motivated me.
However,I still have questions to ask and would really appreciate answers from everyone who has got experience in this matter.
Early this year,my Girlfriend a US citizen decided to file the petition for a K-1 visa for me.I am from Nigeria and would most likely be attending the much dreaded Lagos consulate office that is if I am called for an interview.
I have met her in person since 2005 and last saw her in 2012. In fact, she comes back to Nigeria since I met her every year usually around December. we decided to take thing to the next level sometime in April 2012 and she filed the petition. I really love her and want to be with her. the issues i am facing are I a younger than she is.I am 27years and she is over 40years. All through our time of meeting,we have not taken any pictures and that's because it has always be a phone conversation thing and we see when she comes back home. Now that things have taken this new turn,What other proofs can be used to convince the consulate that we are a genuine couple? I have text messages I received from her on my phone and I don't really have much email conversations cause we don't email much.
This is the 3rd month running we are awaiting the NOA2.
Any advice on what chances we have and what you suggest can be done. Also,I don't have a job but intend to further my studies (get a master's degree) when I get to the states.

Laogs is the worse place to head with a shacky petition, it is bad enough with a perfect one. Not having pictures make it hard to prove you met. For all the CO knows you made your trip to meet someone else and now are trying to back fill the trip by pretending to have meet someone else ( believe me this has been tried ) You will need some proof that not only was she in Nigeria but that the two of you were together at some point during the visit.
With the age difference you mention you will also need to show that you have behaved as a regular couple would. Contact with the Nigerian parents is very very very important. Scammers will meet woman all day long at this hotel or that one in Lagos but not bring any of them home , probably for fear that mom will box their ears for behaving so. The CO's will be looking at you with family and friends at several functions.
Some advice you will get on VJ will come from couples that barely had to prove the passed each other at some airport to get a visa. Anyone that says you don't need to do this or that has never faced Lagos. Lagos knows how important a family is and if you are marrying an older woamn how are you taking care of that cultural need ?

The consulate in Lagos is (arguably) the most difficult in the world. They see every possible manner of visa scam on a daily basis, and many of those scammers are well prepared. This makes it doubly difficult to stand above the crowd as a legitimate couple. The consular officer is going to be predisposed to believe you're just another scammer before the interview has even begun.

First, why did your fiancee visit Nigeria before you became engaged? Was it for business or pleasure? If she was there as a tourist then they're not going to believe she didn't take any photos. Americans don't take a holiday half way around the world without taking photos, especially now that practically any device with a battery also includes a camera.

Second, is it common in Nigeria for a man in his 20's to marry a woman in her 40's? If not then you can expect this to be an issue at the interview. If an average Nigerian wouldn't believe the relationship was genuine then the consular officer is going to be convinced that it's not.

Third, the consular officer is going to look for an ulterior motive aside from a genuine relationship. You've got one. You're not working, and you want to go to school in the US. A masters program is extraordinarily expensive in the US, especially for a foreigner, so hooking up with a older woman, especially if she's financially secure, would seem to fit this profile.

The consular officer is going to be interested in how your relationship evolved, both before and after the relationship became serious. You don't have much concrete evidence of your relationship before you became engaged, and you don't have much time between when you became engaged and the petition was filed. You might have been able to improve your chances by taking more time, having her take more trips, and collecting far more evidence after you became engaged and before sending the petition.




Very spot on. @Liss - As you mentioned and others have this is LAGOS dear. You MUST PROVE you are being together in a relationship. Pictures of family and friends is an absolute must. In Lagos its not secondary evidence, its 1st along with visits and duration together.
See as some countries only have to prove they were together within 2 years with a K1 you are going through Lagos have to PROVE so much more and show it. Unfortunately without pictures how will you prove all those visits to Nigeria (which is great) was to you. She could have been in Nigeria to see anyone thats why pictures are so vital. Remember its not about what you know or we are in love and the CO should knw that. PROVE IT t them!
Chats, emails, text are okay, but unless you can show text messages between you with her nigerian number if she had it or something. You have to be armed with your full arsenal for Lagos. Age difference can be overcome but without proof you actually were together well.
Were you perhaps with friends or family who took pics with a phone camera or something anything? Sorry if you don't.

I was wondering if anyone has sent in a wedding invitation to the USCIS as proof that the relationship is legit and there is a real intent to get married once my fiance enters the US. If anyone has done this did you have a date you plan on getting married being there's no legit estimate on when everything will be processed.

Another question i had was is there any police records of any sort that need to be sent to the USCIS? I know that my fiance will need his when he goes to the embassy in Brasil but I'm sort of confused if anything is needed for the USCIS.

I really hope someone can answer these questions for me so i can get everything together ASAP to start the process being I'm almost finished. Thank you in advance :D


Most engaged couples show wedding plans and when asked your wedding date (I mean they know you have no clue) its of course within 90 days of their arrival there you go. And police stuff like ^ said. :D

It seems by your explaination and the letter they want proof that your visit was within the last two years. Although you have Visa Stamps and boarding passes that only proves you went to the country. You said you wrote on the pics sometimes they want time stamp from camera questioning. But before you dive into all that I would call USCIS again and request a tier 2 manager. Need to bump this up over the regular staff who just read a script. Keep calling until you get some answers so you know exactly what was sent.

Now you did meet within the last two years of your filing correct. Some people file and than meet or two years have passed even by a month. Just asking.

NVC absolutely would not add any additional evidence to the petition package. That would essentially be changing the evidence supporting a petition that has already been approved by USCIS. NVC doesn't have the authority to do that.



WOW for real cuz this has been much discussion on the Nigerian forum and those saying they were going to send in more evidence and all that. If they don't add than what do they do with all that extra stuff?

I first heard about "front loading" your I-129 F application for a K-1 visa on this website. Is there any way for me to add more evidence (though I was not asked for more evidence) to my approved packet while it is at the National Visa Center, before being sent to the embassy in my fiancés country?

Like others have said you would have to just send with fiamce' to interview. You won't be at NVC long not like the spousal Visa where we are ther for weeks and adding you can. This is Lagos so just make sure if there is evidence he wants to be seen make it known. Tell him to answer the question and demonstarte with evidence good way to get in in. Like so how do you communicate show the extra evidence so they can see ongoing. How many times she visit show pics and stamps and stuff, etc.

Was your signed statement about being free to marry that was submitted with the I-129F true or not? That's the only thing that could cause a problem when the interviewing officer reviews the file.

As stated earlier, the intake clerk isn't likely to do that type of scrutiny.

It can be sticky. I have a friend who finally got her husband here a few months back and although her and her husband were divorced I guess there was like something that he needed to file to make it all cool. So their signed date and when it was filed were like years apart so she looked like a bigamist. She had to move heaven and earth and pay quite a bit of money to get that fixed. The CO's don't play but of course that was Lagos, so who knows. you may be okay.

Wel for what its worth I requested an expedite after I filed March 19. Was denied and still got NOA2 to my surprise in 3 months 1 week 4 days (102 days). They say you are put back in the order you were in. I have to believe them. Whats funny is you would think you request a expedite and submit evidence doesn't that mean your case is touched yet no update on the website. weird. Oh well. Now more waiting at NVC. Sorry hope you get what you need dear.

Unfortunately the rule of thumb is you have to wait until they request information form you. Think all those papers and such all over and who knows who has your case. So if they were to send you a letter you would send the required information and the letter so they can keep it all together. I don't see an issue really. Because its a wrong information situation but not a dishonest one. They don't know you are here or there or anywhere. So just hold on. (I know easier said than done). <BR><STRONG><BR><STRONG></STRONG>I would however USCIS tell them what you did and ask them can you send an updated form.. See what they advise.</STRONG>

Yes, you can only petition one fiance(e) at a time(as weird as that may sound).

The embassy has the right to extend the expiration date/validity. If the letter never got through to USCIS/embassy, then USCIS will forward the approved petition to the embassy, and the embassy may extend the valitidy of it or until it's considered abandoned. For your own sake, cancel it if you're 100 percent sure that you will not be following through with your petition. The fee you paid is non-refundable.

I don't really blame you. If you decided to brake it off, rather now than a year later when you're on the hook for good and you've spent more than just the 340 dollars for a petition. However, I'd recommend visiting a few times whenever possible and simply enjoy each other and each other'c culture before things turn stressful through an immigration process.

Cuz technically I wouldn't be able to pursue THAT application anyway since I didn't do anything to forego the process right? Because I dont even know how professional or whatever to make these letters, or if I need to get them certified, and all other details.... can someone post the address and format of what exactly I should tell them? And does me writing them guarantee that I will have an equal chance to petition someone in the future if need-be? I just dont want to screw myself over and want to do the right thing. My point is this, how many times did you visit her? One visit you obviously did not see her as she was "hiding" from you. Your quote was, "From the entire time I've spent here, (since jan 6) you can almost count on 2 hands the # of days she's stayed with me" (posted Feb 16, 2012 which makes you there about 6 weeks when you posted that). That one doesn't count. Based on another thread of yours, wasn't she already married then to another guy at this time? Face it, you were taken for a ride.
So my advice isn't so soft. You should try getting to know each other better, i.e. investing a little more time, in order to find out more about them. Like if they are married or not.

I agree, withdraw the petition, send a copy of the NOA1 and your letter. I just finished reading a topic where the beneficiary was denied at the interview because the ex-USC-fiance did not withdraw the petition from years earlier(if I remember correctly). For your sake, if you were to petition a fiancee later on, make sure your current petition is cancelled.



MOst likely due to the emergency mentioned in signature. It's legal to cancel/withdraw a petition and AOS from within the US if already here, and it's due to something unforseen/unplanned. It's also a loophole, which is most likely why the NOA1 from i-129f isn't a guarentee anybody will be allowed to enter the US with a pending petition.

So you're saying that if I dont do this and I choose to petition another girl in the future that I might be automatically DENIED just for not canceling my 1st petition? it's time to call DoS, Department of State, hotline.

You might want to cancel it.

Call into USCIS, inquire for the current casefile status, give them yer receipt #.
