PhilippinesHas anyone had a positive experience with SLMEC?
i agree, i went st.lukes in the afternoon 1 pm and out at 4:30,less the time of waiting and its faster too...

As for my case i didnt have a problem with regards of the hospital staff. The guards let my mom and bro in instead of waiting outside...

for me thumbs up to them

PhilippinesHow to help someone Adjust to the Life In America
hi

the first few weeks since i arrived here,i wanted to go home. I was very homesick, its kind of tough really specially when i been very close to my family back in PI. It was a heartache for my husband to hear from me that i wanted to go home,he understand though.

But i was still here biggrin.gif,i keep thinking of my husband that hes the reason why i am here and you know it works and as time passes by i learned to endure.

Buy your husband a phone so he could communicate with his relatives in PI and a computer too. Or buy him anything that will keep him busy in a while say a book or a guitar.

I, too pray hard. You know it works too. I hope that he may find job soon.

PhilippinesHow do you like your new American hometown?
QUOTE (Psoas10 @ Jun 17 2009, 10:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My wife loves it here. The whole Island of Kauai is like PI, except the north shore and Poipu area. There are chickens, pigs and goats around us. Also Marunguy? sp, bitttermelon, kalamansi and other gulay grow right outside my door. Ilocano is heard more often than English here, hehe. So my wife has no problems here.

The vast mavority of pinoy living in hawaii were ilocano, the language use to broadcast to people during emergency like thyphoon were english, nihonggo and ilocano he he he imagine that and not tagalog..

PhilippinesTravel during K-1 Process
Thanks for the info everyone! Sounds about right to me too. I'd prefer she stay back and maybe take a course to help her employment prospects when she gets here. She does have a HRM degree, but from what I heard there wasn't much management training, sounded more like training to be a maid or waitress! Although I'm kind of happy she did since I met her while she was doing "OJT" at Padis Point!

PhilippinesTravel during K-1 Process
Hi New couple here :) I finally got permission from my better half in the Philippines to start our K-1 journey.

I think I have a pretty good grasp of the initial filing requirements, my fiancee has a question that had me stumped, tried searching both here in the Philippine thread and the K-1 thread but didn't see anything about our situation.

"Can my fiancee take a job offer outside of the Philippines during the K-1 approval process? She's a singer in a band and they might get a chance to work overseas while waiting for the K-1 to get approved. She already worked in Japan for 6 months, so we know she'll have to get the Japanese police clearance."

Thanks in advance.

PhilippinesJollibee

I am surprised we do not have a Jolibee here. Filipinos make a near majority here. It cost about 400 dollars round trip, for me and wife to go to the nearest Jolibee.

Nope not on Kauai, but here on Oahu there's one in Waipahu, plus a Max's near there also another Max's across from Costco in Iwalei.

Oops, guess I jumped the gun on my reply. Should have read the entire thread first!

PhilippinesCouples living in Hawaii.
Inital costs can be daunting, esp. the cost of housing. Don't expect large houses/land area for alot of money. Gas can be expensive. but like most places, once you get to know the area, you can learn to either deal with the costs or find cheaper alternatives for things.

Yes, lot's of Iloconos. They first started coming to Hawaii to work the pineapple and sugercane plantations, then when the Marcos'es were in power alot moved to Hawaii then too, heck when they got kicked out of the Philippines, they moved to Hawaii.

PhilippinesCo Sponsor

You sound really educated on this and have been through the process yourself. Manila does not like the acceptance of a co-sponsor but sometimes it is done by an immediate family member. What is different here is that the Petitioner has No Employment and living with his parents. (The Cousulate Red Flagged this immediately)
The petitioner maybe allowed to re-file after finding employment. (I'm not sure but the currant Petition is probably Void) Maybe he can find immediate employment but I doubt that will be accepted. What was his 2010 taxes? What is the currant income for 2011? Theres no paycheck or means of support.
I wonder how much time the Consulate gave to provide documentation of income and support.

3 mistakes: 1. Booking a Flight before a physical Visa in hand.
2. Planning a wedding when they already knew it would be dis-approved due to no real support.
3. The assumption of the Philippines accepting a co-sponsor.

Warnings: Sounds like she has a Passport and the flight is already paid. I would strongly avoid her getting on a plane. The intent of the visit will be looked at when you have a K-1 pending. (and a currant denial pending)

Best I can do for now.

I'm glad my husband found this site and introduced it to me. This site help me alot with my journey to US, from our K1 Visa till I got my US citizenship and petitioning my mother.
With regards to my friend, I've been telling her that not to book a flight yet, and planned the wedding but her fiance was the one who did everything. About the 2010 Income tax return, his father is the one doing his taxes i think I'm not sure he is only the dependent of the parent since he has no job. So what will happen now to their case, The fiance needs to get a stable job, until then she can be approve? and what if he can't find a job yet what is the alternative they can do. Get married in the philippines and then start with K3 visa, but is the co sponsor will work with the K3 visa? thanks again for any help

PhilippinesCo Sponsor
Hi, visa journey peeps, it's been a long time since I last visited this site again. Hopefully you can give some advice again.
Ok this situation is for my friend. She had an interview last June 15 @ the US embassy of Manila for K1 visa unfortunately, doesn't look like her interview went well. The consul was asking her about more sources of income for her US citizen fiancé. Her fiancé has no job in the present only worked for 3 months since the time he submitted the application last oct. 2010. He had his parent as his co sponsor. He lived with his parent. When my friend went to her interview, the first thing the consul told to my friend was they don't accept co sponsor for K1 visa, is that true? So what will happen now for the application of my frIend, what is alternative they can do. The consul told her to present more evidence of his financial or sources of income but if the fiancé has no job, then what??? She already have a ticket to US and about to leave next week but if she doesn't have visa yet then what? also the wedding is set already first week of next month. My friend is panicking and don't know what to do.... Please need your advise. Thanks again in advance.

You will get it at SLMEC along with your vaccination report. But I really don't know when it will be used... unsure.gif

You don't need it for any other Purpose! You can hang it on the wall, file it with your paper work or toss it in the trash.

My girl just told me that they just gave her a sealed CD with the Xray info on it, so no more actual Xray film coming out of Manila. Wow, I guess this is a news flash, 'cause no one else knew about it on this thread, so there you have it from me first, hehe. Maybe this is a new cutting edge procedure, and not all Embassies put the Xray on the CD yet. Today, another VJr from UK was wondering how to take her Xray film on the plane wo/ folding it or damaging it . Thanks for all the input. Cheers.

ormally
"No criminal record" normally means they have a civil record and they need a letter from NBI explaining exactly what they have.

Just be careful of corrupt NBI officials when you get your letter of explanation. Some ask as high as $500 or P20,000.

actually it says "no record" is a letter still needed?

PhilippinesI need help.. Preggy and I need to give birth in the Philippines
Anyway I know most of u suggested having a CRBA but the only problem about that is my husband doesn't meet the 5 year requirement of a US citizen. So technically my baby cant assume US citizenship.
I wonder if you guys are familiar with 9 FAM 42.1, it states that I can bring the baby even though I'm just a Permanent Resident as long as the baby is less than
2 years. And also my baby won't need a visa, he just needs travel authority from the US consulate.

9 FAM 42.1

The child born after the issuance of a visa to a parent is not required to have a
visa if the child is:
(1) Born subsequent to issuance of an IV to the accompanying parent within
the validity of the parent’s immigrant visa; or
(2) Born during the permanent resident mother’s temporary visit abroad
provided that (see 9 FAM 42.1 N2):
(a) Admission is within two years of birth; and
(b) Either accompanying parent is applying for readmission upon first
return after the birth of the child.
