CanadaVancouver Interview?

they already wrote back... Nov. 20! A week earlier than I requested actually!

Guess they felt sorry for me and my anxiety! :)

PS - it is at 10:AM. Should I show up at 10 or earlier? I seem to recall posts that people show up early and get in line, or did I make that up?

That works at other embassies sometimes, but not at Vancouver. :) Show up at 9:45 or so, and you'll be all good. The guards will let you into the K-visa line when they see your x-ray envelope.

(...are you supposed to bring the x-ray to the interview??)

CanadaImporting Car to the US

I just crossed the border with all my stuff and car from Winnipeg last week at the Pembina North Dakota crossing. I had made a list of all my stuff and the car compliance letter from Diamler Chrysler. I also had a cat with all the paper work
When I got to the border they looked at my passport and asked if I had any beef and to go on through and then walk the package in. They took about 45 minutes stumbling through the package and they said thats all i needed. They never looked at any of the cat, car, or moving items and said thats all they needed.

However some places do require that letter of compliance so yes its a good thing to have. You will need it to register the car in the US for sure...atleast here in Texas you do!
Good Luck!

Hi there...

I'm sure there's a thread out there somewhere about taking your car across the border but I don't remember seeing any about going through the Peace Arch crossing.

I will be moving to Honolulu when my visa is approved, so unfortunately I can't just drive there! I found a company who specializes in shipping from the West Coast to the Hawaiian islands. However, I have to drive my car from Vancouver to a port in Seattle to do so.

I have my letter from the Canadian manufacturer that says my car is A-OK. Just wondering if I need to get a letter of approval from EPA and/or is there anything else I need to prepared to show at customs? Did you have to pay duty?

Thanks a bunch!!

Thanks for sharing your experience!

(P.S. they asked if you had any "beef"???)

CanadaMy Vancouver interview is scheduled!
Hi all,

Faxed in the packet 3 checklist on Wednesday, October 25th. On Monday, October 30th, I emailed them to confirm that they received the fax and I also requested a random date for an interview. They emailed me back the same day and gave me the date I requested, Wednesday, November 22nd. How about that...should have asked for something sooner.

Canadacrossing border with vehicle
Hi smallcan,

I'm actually doing the same thing next week, except I'm only driving it to Seattle to ship it off to Hawaii. My car is a GM and my letter cost around $70, but it was a speedy process. You will also need an EPA form and DOT form (HS-7 i think). Plus when you get to the border I think there is another form to fill out but apparently it is quick and they will have those available to you. Good luck.

CanadaCanadian passport
Hi there...

Just wondering if anyone has tried to obtain a passport while living in the US because of their new surname after marriage...I'm not sure if I am supposed to add the new surname for the fee of $12 and send in my current passport, or should I try and get a new passport altogether? Thanks in advance...

CanadaMy Experience changing my Drivers License today..
I had to take an eye exam and do a written test to get my Hawaii DL. Some of the multiple choice answers made me giggle, for example:

When is it legal to drink while driving?
1) Never
2) In the back of the pick up truck
3) Only on the highway
4) When you are a passenger

This is not surprising since nobody here wears helmets while they are on their motorcycles or scooters and there are always huge groups of people sitting in the back of pick up trucks, usually drinking.

CanadaHow much did you bring with you?
I thought the less I brought the better...but I did ship my car and bring my dog, Elvis, to Hawaii...

CanadaMaking the move with your pets
Hi Kimmbo,

I brought my puggle (pug x beagle) to Hawaii with me in December when my K1 visa was approved. Hawaii is a rabies free state and has a very strict quarantine law, however, with very careful planning "Elvis" was immediately released from the airport in Honolulu. His papers were more complicated than the whole immigration process!!! I hated that I had to leave him in the luggage storage area for 6 hours in a kennel on the plane, but I am so glad I did it because I now have him with me, and he loves it over here. So, no, I don't think you are crazy at all...I think you are a wonderful parent!

(PS I love scrapbooking too! Your stuff blows mine out of the water!!)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan someone sort me out?
We finally received our NOA1 after waiting for weeks. The letter has also asked my US fiance to wait for a scheduled biometrics date. I thought that once we sent in the petition that the US citizen part was on hiatus until I received my packet 3. Is this normal or is this part of this "imbra" thing? Also, can someone direct me to where I can find a breakdown of what actually happens at each stage of the game? Thanks!

Hi Cygnet, thanks for sharing. To answer your question, they have told me it will take 2 months to process the request. Perhaps I will take you up on your tip with the checklist and NOA1 date, can't hurt to try. Thanks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPolice Certificate
Hi all. I had lived in Japan for one year teaching English. I contacted the Japanese Embassy here in Vancouver to try to get a head start in obtaining a police certificate from Japan, but I was told that I was required to show official document asking for one, and when I do get one from the US consulate, it will take 2 months!! Has anyone from VJ requested a police certificate from Japan before? Thanks in advance.

On Saturday, August 12 we had reasons to celebrate twice! Not only did we re-unite after 3 months of separation, the same day Larry arrived in Vancouver we found out we were approved by the CSC. For those of you who are concerned about not being touched, aside from the imbra-rfe, we were not touched once...so don't lose hope or even worry about not being touched! Hugs, C.

so, two years later, do all these shortcuts still apply and work correctly?? No big changes to the NVC system that would make these not work anymore?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOpinions: what would you do??
hrmmm, wow... haha, i thought i had my mind made up on the K-1 fiancee visa, but after checking the waiting time stuff for IR-1/CR-1, i'm not so sure again...
I had somewhat dismissed the IR-1/CR-1 earlier because i had checked the AVERAGE waiting time, which was like 420 days... the IR-1/CR-1 sounded pretty sweet because she would come in as a permanent resident AND able to work once it was done, but the waiting time looked too crazy. However, it says that the average time FOR JAPAN, between NOA2 and interview is only like 77 days!!! As opposed to the 175-300days for most other countries. So, average 13 days for I-130 to NOA1, average 107 days for NOA1 to NOA2, and then average (maybe) 77 days from then till the interview...
so, yep... I had made up my mind, decided to just go with the K-1 and start getting everything together so i could get the ball rolling... but now that i see that, i need to think some more. Hrrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmm....
