US Citizenship General DiscussionWalk-In Fingerprinting at Oakland Park, Florida

I had the test and interview the same day, but had to go back a couple of weeks later for the ceremony,

good luck, you will soon be all done with USCIS and on to passports voting SSN etc

Did you have your interview at the Oakland Park office?

US Citizenship General DiscussionWalk-In Fingerprinting at Oakland Park, Florida
I did a walk-in for fingerprinting at the Oakland Park ASC this morning and had no problems. (My appt was originally scheduled for January 19 but I'll be out of town.) I was the first in line when the fingerprinting section opened at 7:30 and was out of there by 8am. No one seemed to notice the appointment date on my letter so I didn't mention it, and after I'd had the prints taken it was stamped and returned to me.

One thing: I asked the woman at the reception desk how long interviews were taking and she said three to six months. She also said that sometimes they do the citizenship test and interview separately on different days. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I thought they were always done at the same time; seems like a waste of time and effort to do them separately, no?

She also told me that they do NOT offer same-day oaths at the Oakland Park office.

US Citizenship General DiscussionTwo quick questions
Hello VJers

1. If your interview comes up before your anniversary date and you pass it, does immigration ALWAYS simply schedule your oath for after your anniversary date? Or could they also choose to reschedule your interview (ie: make you come back to interview again)? I ask because things are moving so quickly that it looks as if I may get an interview before my anniversary date in mid-March, and I would hate to have to interview twice!

2. Can you travel out of the country after your successful interview and before your oath ceremony? I know there can sometimes be a delay - especially if you had the interview before your anniversary date or if your local office is busy. I ask because my job requires frequent travel outside the US.

thanks

give USICS a call or get an infopass. if they nave to access your case this might get your case going again.

My mom went for her biometrics appt. feburary 5th. I will let you know when she receives her interview letter.

Good news: I called USCIS this evening and they told me that my name was added to the interview wait list at my local office this morning, so I should expect to get my interview letter within four weeks. Yay! Best news I've had all year!

Thanks. It's been more than a month since I did my fingerprints (on Jan 11), and I have confirmed with the FBI that the info was received and returned to the USCIS on the same day. So I guess the delay is with my case in particular, not just Miami filers. Sigh.

Can anyone who was interviewed in Miami tell me the length of time between their biometrics and receipt of their interview letter?
I am the only one in the Jan N-400 filers' thread here who has still not received her interview letter (see my signature for timeline) and I'm trying to find out if it's just me or if the Miami office simply takes longer than everywhere else. When can I expect to receive my letter?!

US Citizenship General DiscussionFiling n400 while i751 is pending

I have an immigration petition that seems to have fallen into the USCIS black hole. My i751 had been pending since June of 2008, however, I am eligible to file for citizenship today. I have been told a pending i751 delays a the n400 so it doesnt make a difference. I have been told filing an n400 with i751 leads to investigation and stokes interview. I need to hear from someone who did it. I want to know if they process your i751 or your citizenship. I`ve been told its done simultaneously. So which interview is done then if its simultaneuos? HELP!

My 1-751 has been pending since December 2008, and I despite numerous inquiries since then, I've never been able to find out what the hold up was; just kept being told that it was in process and i just had to wait. I'm now on my 2nd I-551 stamp! I filed my N400 when I became eligible in December 2009, was fingerprinted in January and have an interview appointment in April. I understand that my I-751 will be adjudicated at the same time as the N400 interview. So far I haven't received any special instruction for the interview, just the normal "white letter" that many other applicants receive that lists the documents you should bring with you.

Good luck on your journey, Mainyasha. Won't it be wonderful to be finally finished with the USCIS?!

US Citizenship General DiscussionMiami Interview Today!

I got to the USCIS local office at 7:10 am for my 7:55 am interview. IO called my name at 7:40 am and kindly asked me to sit in the second office. She asked me to swear to tell the truth and then asked me to give her my greencard. She reviewed my application and asked me several questions from the application and verified my address, etc.

I was asked to read "How many senators do we have" and then I wrote "We have one hundred senators"

Then my questions were as followed:

  • What is the name of our national anthem
  • What happend in the US september 11 2001
  • What is the rule of law
  • What ocean is in the west coast
  • What represent the 13 stripes in the flag
  • (cant remember...sorry)
After that, she asked me to verify some forms that she printed and by 8:00 am i was done. She gave me the N-652 Naturalization Interview Results congratulating me. She recommended me for approval and I had to wait to see if I could join the next Oath Ceremony. Unfortunately, it was before my 3 years so I was asked to go home and wait for the letter by mail.

Wish you all good luck in your jorney!

Congratulations! It's good to hear from a Miami applicant - doesn't seem that there are many of us in this forum.

US Citizenship General DiscussionUS Citizenship Interview today-Ft Lauderdale, FL

I applied for my N400 on January 14th (Based on marriage to a US citizen after 3 years). I went for my biometrics on February 8th and received my letter for an interview a week later for Tuesday, March 23rd-today! My interview was scheduled for 3.30pm. I got there at 3.05pm and was called in at 3.25pm.
The rep asked me to lift up my right hand and promise to tell the truth. He asked for my passport and green card. He then asked me some general questions which were on the N400 application like: Have you ever claimed to be a US Citizen? Have you ever registered to vote? Have you ever failed to file a Tax return etc.
Then he verified my address and phone numbers and also mentioned that since we got married, my husband and I have a child together in which I answered yes.

He then asked these questions:
1. If both the president and the vice president can no longer serve, who becomes president?
2. What does the president's cabinet do?
3. How many justices are on the supreme court?
4. We elect a US senator for how many years?
5. Name one branch of the government?
6. When do we celebrate independence day?

He then asked me to read "When is Columbus day?" and then asked me to write "Columbus day is in October"
He said congratulations and told me the next oath ceremony was this Friday and they will see if they can get me in for the ceremony. He said if there is no space left, I will be sent a letter to schedule me for the next one.

The interview took probably 10 minutes. He also handed a form (N-652-Naturalization Interview Results) to prove that I passed the interview and returned my passport and greencard.
Hope this helps for those who have upcoming interviews.

Well done! Which office did you go to?

US Citizenship General DiscussionSworn in in Hialeah, Florida
Seven years and 15 days after I first got my H1-B work visa, my immigration journey ended on Friday, April 23 at the oath ceremony in Hialeah Florida. 183 people from 22 countries took the oath, including 83 Cubans and just one person from the UK: me!

I feel so incredibly relieved to have this all behind me. To me, the difference between being a green card holder and being a citizen feels a bit like the difference between living with someone long-term and getting married. On the surface the differences are so subtle as to be almost imperceptible, but internally the change is significant. I feel as if no one has an excuse to treat me in any way "less than" - although, the world being what it is, of course some people will. But that's their problem!

So now all that's left to be done is to get my passport (I have an appointment in Miami in early May and am hoping to get it back the same day, since I travel frequently and internationally for business) and tomorrow, I'll be Fedexing off the I-130s for my parents!

VisaJourney has been a great resource for me over the years, so thanks, everyone. Good luck to all.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 ... December 2009 Applicants
I had my interview today in the Hialeah, Miami office. It was long and stressful, lasting almost an hour.

Everything was going well until the examiner asked me if I had my 10-year green card and I told her that my i751 app (filed in December 2008) had still not been adjudicated. She looked in the computer and at one point said that no one had touched my case after biometrics and she didn't know why; then she said it looked like they had me down as a no-show! By this point I was fighting back tears but tried to be calm and explain that I had been to that same office for many Infopass appts and been told that my case was in process and I just had to wait; frequently called the USCIS line AND had received two stamps in my passport from the same office while I was waiting, and that I hadn't moved since 2003. I was definitely NOT a no-show!

Since they rarely adjudicate removal of conditions at that office, she didn't know what to do to process that case; and without my permanent residence approved, she couldn't process the naturalization app! Eventually she left the office (presumably to get some advice, came back, asked me some questions about my marriage, took a copy of our 2009 tax return and some photos I'd brought along, just in case, then moved on to the naturalization part of the interview. I can't remember all six questions (I was SO stressed out by then!) but I know she did ask:

How long do senators serve?
Who serves if the president and VP are unable to serve?
How many supreme justices are there?

In the end, she gave me the N-652 saying I'd passed and was being recommended for approval. I asked when the next oath ceremony was and she said they usually have them once a month but had no date yet for April. She told me not to worry, that they would get my I751 sorted out and that she would call me personally if there was a problem.

I'm relieved to have come this far but I won't REALLY exhale until I get the letter with the date. It's been a long and bumpy ride for me, but I'm happy to be in the final days of my relationship with the USCIS.

To others in my position, a word of advice: Don't presume that your interview will be as simple as other VJers'. Although we are told "No problem, we'll adjudicate your I751 at the naturalization interview if it hasn't been approved by then" it certainly CAN be a problem if the examiner doesn't usually handle those types of cases. Bring evidence to prove the validity of your marriage with you, just in case you need it.

Hi everyone,

So, i sent all of the paperwork in to remove conditions on 2/12, and the cheque was cashed a few days later. I didn't receive an NOA1, but today I received the Biometrics appointment, scheduled for 3/10/09. This seems a little bit strange to me - has it happened to anyone else? I checked my case online, and it says that they received it 2/13, and has the usual jargon "we mailed you a notice describing how we will process...". Should I request a copy of the NOA1? (Am I allowed to for that matter..)

One more thing, my service center is apparently "WSC" - err, where is that?! I sent all my stuff into the California Service Center.

Would appreciate anyone's help/advice.

Thanks.

I gor mt biometrics letter but I never did get my NOA1. I made an Infopass appointment and got the 1551 stamp in my passport with no problems at all. I think it's pretty common for people not to receive it.

I got my biometrics letter but never did get my NOA. When I went for my biometrics appointment, I used the machine in the lobby to make an Infopass appointment to get a stamp in the passport. When I went back (about a week later) I had absolutely no problem getting the stamp. I was seen about 10 mins after my appointment time and explained that I needed the stamp because I travel internationally for work. The officer was very pleasant. He took my passport and asked me to wait a few minutes back in the waiting area. Ten minutes later I got my stamped passport back and was out of there!

Don't worry; you should be fine.

I was in the same boat last year (filed July 08, got approved March 09) everybody was approved around me - pretty bad feeling!

However, after 7 months waiting I had an infopass appointment that was a complete waste of time, a very rude officer told me to shut up and wait another year before coming back to complain, also to expect an interview for sure "since all these applicants are interviewed" (yeah right).

I then called the service line and a very nice lady put in a service request. Two days later I had the approval email and other week later the card was in the mail. But you have to be past the posted processing time for them to do anything!

Good Luck!

The I was lucky enough to be able to get an Infopass appointment yesterday to enquire about my case. The officer told me that it's still active and that they have everything they need to process my application - which started in Vermont, went to Missouri and is now somewhere in California!

She said it was last "touched" mid-July and that I should hear something between now and January 2010. Although the website says that they are processing apps from Feb 2009, she said that there are many people like me who applied before that date and still haven't had a decision.

Hi,

i had the same problem, i filed mine in October 2008, scheduled and infopass, my file was touched in July '09 and was told to wait. My application was transferred to CSC on March 2009. My extension letter expires in October, 09. The IO told me to get the stamp some time in September if no action is taken by then. I know its frustrating but it is the system.

Well, I got the stamp in my passport in February because my extension letter never arrived. Here's hoping I hear something before it expires! But it certainly is frustrating when I read about all these people who applied after me and have already been approved. Makes you wonder if there is any rhyme or reason to the way the USCIS handles its business.

I got a letter in the mail today from the USCIS, and I'm a little confused about exactly what it means. It's a I-797C and it says it's a transfer notice, but under "Case Type" it says "CR I89 approved removal of conditions (I89)." All the other emails and letters I've received from the USCIS say "CR I89 removal of conditions status received."
Its too late to call customer service but I just checked my status on the website and it still says that I'm at the "initial review" stage - after 9 months! Anyone else get this sort of letter, too?

Please bear with me; I just need to vent.

I submitted my app last December to Vermont, and have a January receipt date. I had my biometrics done, but after that heard nothing for several months. I made an Infopass appt over the summer and was told to keep waiting; a week later I called customer service and initiated a service request. Finally, on Sep 15, I got a letter saying that my case had been transferred to California. I've been checking status online and was shocked to see that it is still in the "under initial review" stage.
What on earth has the USCIS been doing with my case since January that they are STILL giving it the initial review?? What happened to it between January and now??? I just called the customer service line and was told that I should wait and get back in touch with them if I haven't heard anything by November 15th. I plan to apply for citizenship in December, for God's sake! If they're going to take so long to process cases, why even bother to have the removal of conditions process?? I should have just saved my money and spent it on the citizenship application! Six months processing time? Yeah, right!

I realize that others are waiting, too, but I am BEYOND annoyed at this. To have spent so much money, waited so long, and to have received absolutely no service is unacceptable to me.

Roosterwife,

I understand your frustration. I just read something about filing for naturalization that might possibly make it a little more bearable. Well, maybe it will at least make it a little less annoying that you paid for I-751 when you can apply for citizenship soon (it DOES kind of seem like a waste of money) and have yet to be approved. It states in the Guides that "the I-751 must be approved in order for you to apply for Naturalization 3 years after AOS based on marriage to a US Citizen". I imagine that in some cases, the I-751 is NOT approved, which means that person would not be allowed to get citizenship. Maybe if you think of it as step three (step 1 being the visa, step 2 is the 'green card') of the N-400 instead of a separate, unnecessary step, it would be a little easier to deal with?

Also, some people have to wait until they've had LPR for five years for citizenship, so they 'use' their ten year card longer. Some decide to wait for N-400 for whatever reason, and some decide not to apply for it at all. So for them, the I-751 isn't such a 'waste'. I can see your point, though - why can't they just make the first card a three year card, or allow for a less expensive option to bridge between the 2 year card and citizenship? I guess it would be impractical, and they want to make sure that the conditions are met before approving citizenship.

Either way, I hope this makes it a little more bearable for you. I also hope we see you adding your approval to the list soon!
