K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsScheduling an interview

Generally, it takes 24 hours for your receipt info to propagate from BPI to the embassy system.  So, try again tomorrow.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSent to NVC?

it is my understanding that you will receive a letter telling you that your case is at the NVC.  Unless you want to call and ask them if they have it yet.  But be prepared for some things.

*  The wait times are usually more than 20 minutes.  Mine yesterday was 27 minutes.

*  They will tell you that you need to wait 8 weeks from the time that you receive your NOA2 letter before you call.

*  They might be rude, and condescending.

When I've called, it's been busy, but the phone has a redial button, so I just smack it until I get through.

Very interesting!  I don't know WHAT that means, but I'm anxious to know!  So the NVC can assign interview dates now?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportshow long does it take to have a case number?

Your case is not the norm. Lately it has been taking upwards of 8 weeks to get a case number

I'm a data junkie.  I went into the timelines search, and searched for everyone who had gotten an NOA2 since 2014-01-01.  I then took the number of days for the case to arrive at NVC, and the number of days it took for the case to depart NVC, and averaged them together.  Some observations.  The LONGEST I saw, was 27 days.  The average for BOTH scenarios was 5.xxxx days.

We're talking K-1 folks here.  I know you IR-1, CR-1  people get ripped.  It takes them forever to do ANYTHING for you.

how long does it take to have a case number??? we've been calling NVC a lot of times,  my fiance called again today  but still they don't have our case yet. its been more than 3 weeks since we received our NOA2.

You should have it by now.  I was at CSC as well, and got my NOA2 8 days after you did, and i got my case number TODAY.   I call the NVC DAILY, and found out that they received my case on 02/27.  Something weird's going on.  I'd follow NLR's suggestion, and see if you can find out from the USCIS what's going on.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCONFUSED ABOUT NVC

Some petitioner's got the attention of their congressman or a senator to find out whats really going on when things were getting too frustrating..

Just contacted (via webform), both my congressmen.

Also, for anyone interested, the NVC phone system uses *5 digit extensions*, and you can only search by LAST name.  So, if anyone knows supervisor Gus' last name, please tell me, and I'll see if I can find him in the phone book.  (Also, there's no operator, so dialing 0 gets you nowhere).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCONFUSED ABOUT NVC

OK, just got "JR", who told me the same thing, and that he has seen cases go through processing for MONTHS.  I asked if I could have the fact that I have a March 26th interview added to the file, and he said there's no way to add that.  He stated that the info that he has is ALL the info that's available, and that a supervisor wouldn't have any more info.

At first he sounded like he was going to be helpful, and maybe give me something that I hadn't gotten so far.  But no.  Once he pulled up my case, the response was EXACTLY the same as the others.  "reading from the script".  Have I mentioned that I hate this yet?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCONFUSED ABOUT NVC

I just read now and then K1's reporting it. I know someone from Jamaica it was like 6 weeks. A friend of mine it was 2 weeks. I known some a few months. No one knows and NVC ain't tellin. I have heard its random but for what who knows. I would most def ask for a supervisor and bring to their attention you have scheduled an interview They have no way of knowing that.

You need to sound the alarm. Again talking to those who answer the phone is a waste of time ask for a supervisor. Hopefully you will get Supervisor Gus. The best man working there.goofy.gif

"Rose" just told me that my question CAN'T be asked of a supervisor, and that she can give me the status of my case.  And repeated the same old line.

When she answered the phone, I asked for a supervisor 1st thing.  She said "Before I can transfer you, I need your case number".  I gave her that, along with beneficiaries name and dob, and MY name and dob, phone number, and e-mail.  "OK, and what's your question?"  I told her I wanted to know what was going on.  "Well, I can give you that information.  Your data was entered into the system on March 3rd, and your case is undergoing additional processing.  All the I-129's go through additional processing, and there's no timeframe for this."

Too bad you don't have an extension for Gus.  I would troll the phone system, and see if I could figure out how to get to him.  I might call back, as I haven't told them about the interview yet.  See if they care.  I would REALLY be shocked if they did.

Rose told me I could call back on Friday, and they could tell me if anything had occurred with my case.  Thanks Rose!  :-\

Unfortunately you are on AP at NVC it happens at NVC for K1's. It can last from days to months (rare months but it happens). Nothing you can d. You could call and ask a supervisor. The person answering the phone knows nothing. A supervisor might tell you why?

Presumably there is a history of this having happened in the past.  Is it known why this happened for any of the previous cases?

ChrisFurloughNot TellingPhilippines2014-03-11 11:19:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCONFUSED ABOUT NVC

When you call NVC what exactly do they say about your petition? Are you in AP or what?

"Yes, your case is in routine administrative processing.  There is no timeline for this.  Can I help you with anything else?"

And all questions past that are "I don't have access to that information".  Today is day 12, and according to my extensive Vj research, the average is 4.29 days.

It's not that I'm just impatient, it's that I got "lucky", and got an embassy interview on March 26th that I'd like to keep.

Just be patient... =)

my status as of last week thursday is "ready". I was not expecting that to be ready for another week, but I'm not complaining.

Just keep checking or keep calling the nvc.

We have an interview date of March 26th.  So, the NVC "NEEDS" to ship our file over to the embassy by the 21st in order for her to still be able to attend the interview.  I just want it sent NOW, so that I can exhale!

I check the NVC status probably 25 times a day, and limit myself to only calling them ONCE a day.

ChrisFurloughNot TellingPhilippines2014-03-07 12:42:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCONFUSED ABOUT NVC

NVC will (in theory) respond to your e-mail once you have a case number.  (I should be close to getting one now, and will report my findings accordingly).

You shouldn't have to send ANYTHING to the NVC.  They should get your file in, see that it's a K-1, do the data entry, and then ship it off to the embassy in Manila.

Things to be prepared for when you call the NVC during business hours.

* Possibly busy signal, redial until you get through.  Took my 6 tries today.

* Long wait times.  Today was actually short, at only 15 minutes.  Usually takes 20 to 25.

* Prepare to be talked to in a condescending manner.  "We don't have your case yet, look at the top of the form that you were mailed.  In the upper left corner is a date.  You have to give us 8 weeks from that date before you call."

Prepare yourself for those things, and you'll be fine.  GOOD LUCK!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCEAC provides DATES? How? Where?

I see people post from time to time that their case has been touched today, or that there is some status date that has changed.  How do you find this?  All I get is the dreaded "at NVC" status, and some verbiage below that about how to contact them or something.  How do I get to this "last touched date"?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsContacting congressman, anyone ever done that?

And TODAY, my case is freed from it's bondage at the NVC.  It could be a coincidence, or it could be that my congressman's immigration person contacting them caused them to get on it.  Either way, I'm free now, and I made it in time.

ChrisFurloughNot TellingPhilippines2014-03-18 15:20:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsContacting congressman, anyone ever done that?

Actually YES.  I got an e-mail from her late Friday night stating that my case isn't in any sort of SPECIAL processing at the NVC, it's just taking a while to do the NORMAL processing.  They assured her that it ALWAYS takes them 2-4 weeks to process cases, and since mine is in the window for that, there's nothing they can do for her.

(So, I used the VJ searches, and gathered a bunch of evidence that they're lying, and sent that to her.  We'll see if she takes them to task for the untruths, or just lets it go).

ChrisFurloughNot TellingPhilippines2014-03-17 10:51:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsContacting congressman, anyone ever done that?

Well, FWIW, I just faxed, and e-mailed my "Permission to work on my behalf" letter to my congressman's office.  We'll see.  The woman who contacted me from there was VERY knowledgable about the whole K-1 process.  Which amazed me.  So, we'll see if anything comes of it.

When I was shopping for a better appointment, I would log in to the site, and leave it open.  Every couple of minutes, I would hit the "Reload" or "Refresh" button, and that would update it.  Being a software engineer, I spend a lot of time at the keyboard, so it worked out for me.  If you spend a lot of time around the computer, give it a try!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 and processing time charts

The graphs are as accurate as the input info.  I'm a data-head like you, and I run all sorts of queries and average the dates to try to divine when my case will take the next step.  From my time doing this, I can tell you that the USCIS doesn't do things in any sort of order, and data swings WILDLY both ways, and some people don't input their data at all, or do so late, so you can't really glean anything from it.  It is an estimate at best.

As for the Alien number, what I *assume* is that their system is set up to alert you when you case record changes.  When it's first created (NOA1), it's created with a BLANK Alien number.  Once they do a little processing on your case, they assign you a number.  That constitutes a CHANGE, so you get a notification.  Other than that?  It means nothing.

Which one did you speak to? Did you ask how they knew?

I talked to my congressman's office, and he had a woman who handled all his immigration requests.  She knew EVERYTHING.  She asked about the time it took for my USCIS approval, etc.  So, don't be surprised that they know those sorts of things, they could see LOTS of requests to help.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2014 Filers

Thanks to the great information on how to track your case after it leaves the NVC, I can confirm that my case is currently "Out for delivery" in Manila as we speak.    So, that's good to go.

I sent the I-134 and accompanying info back on the 9th (aka 11 days ago), and she hasn't received it yet.  This case is kinda like the plot for the old Keanu Reeves movie Speed, where you think the villain is dead, only to have him resurface.  OVER and OVER.  So, we have today, and Monday to get it, or I'll have to scan ALL the stuff, and e-mail it to her so that she can PRINT it.  And, I assume we'll get a 221G since the I-134 won't have a "wet signature".  But it beats missing the interview because of the stuff not being there.

Fingers crossed!
