I have to get two Police Record Checks done - one for Girl Guides and then the one for immigration. The RCMP here in Richmond BC want the name and address for the one for the immigration PRC.I am not sure which address will be needed for this, and will I be going to soon in my process if I go soon? I have to have the one done for Guiding by April - it is free and the immigration PRC is $ 51.00 here in Richmond BC, but it should only take 1/2 hour smile.gif Can anyone help me with the address or if I am going to soon.

Thanks,

Janet

Sounds perfectly correct to me as I enter into this section of my journey. Vancouver is the only city in the west that still do the physical.

CanadaMedicals in Vancouver - FYI
Hi,
I just wanted to let anyone on the western side of Canada to know that Dr. Morgan is still doing medicals in Vancouver on Wednesdays and for the unbelievable cost of $350.00. If Wednesday's are absolutely out of the question maybe Thursday's.

CanadaWhat's your favorite restaurant in USA ?
For breakfast Denny's
For lunch the Olive Garden - soup and salad
For fast food dinner - In N Out for burgers and Wingstop for wings and huge chips (fries)
For a nice dinner - Claim Jumper
If in Texas - Salt Grass Steakhouse it was the best !!!!
other than that I would rather cook at home smile.gif

When I get here for good, we will have enough dishes for and cutlery for about 45 people ( no good china though, sold it all to pay for a semester of university), so then we will use real stuff but a bachelor pad just has a few things smile.gif

CanadaThe Vent
Has anyone expressed their opinion (vent) about the use of diposable dishes on a regular basis just not ocassionally in some homes in the USA. Or is it just that I come from "green" BC and as an educator and a Girl Guide leader I am trying to make sure that things are reused, recycle and reduced. My stepson even said the other day, "wow, the recycling bin is always full now and the trash aka garbage has hardly anything." When we went to Virginia for holidays, there were no real dishes readily available just disposable. It is sad to think that the landfills are full of throw away dishes. For Christmas this year we bought decent disposable plates and cutlery and I washed it all and put away for the next big soiree. I was vetoed down with renting dishes etc. So I will continue with my cloth shopping bags, and try to educate my corner of the USA about the dangers of dispoables especially foam. End of rant.
Thanks for listening.

Thus the reason why I dislike "lists" It has never been a part of my Christmas traditions. I feel so bad for you that this happened on your first (I believe married Christmas). My husband is not into the gift giving part of Christmas - there was too much greed and "I want I want" when he was married, so now we will just have a huge family dinner aka 45 people each year with his family in California. Aside from that I won a dvd player at my step-son's junior college variety show. If we were close I would drive it over and be a Secret Santa.
Have a Happy New Years!

CanadaHow did everyone meet their american/canadian significant others?
We meet on line in Feb or March of 2001 at a card playing site (pinochle, hearts, spades, cribbage, etc) called iplay. I was a moderator and we ended up being pinochle partners, eventually I asked if Carnell was his first of last name he typed "1" a few weeks later I asked if he was male or female again he typed "m". Eventually, we started playing canasta and chatting. One weekend in May he went poof, I was upset that he wasn't there to play as we had a standing "date" to play cards at 8 pm. On the Monday he came on and asked for my phone number as his internet was off all weekend and he really felt disconnected. By June, I knew I had to meet him and arranged to fly to LA from Vancouver in August. He was everything he said he was smile.gif Now we are in the final progress of being together but we play bridge now on line, it is more challenging.

CanadaVancouver Medical & Interview
My dr wrote me a perscription for the tdap, which I had filled at the pharmacy it cost just under $40.00 and was not covered by Blue Cross. It has to be kept in the fridge until you can get back to your doctor for the injection. So another added expense for those in BC.

CanadaWhat am I forgetting?
Oreo cookie crumbs - I couldn't find any in 5 stores at Christmas in California. I was making chocolate cheese cake and have always used the crumbs in the box and for 'dirt and worms" but had to buy the regular chocolate wafers at 6.00 a box and use the rolling pin to turn them into crumbs. I am going to pack a few boxes of the cookie crumbs before I head south.

Canadaanother question about canadian taxes
I did some research on here and this is what I found and did.

I wrote Carnell's name in for spouse
For SIN - I wrote US resident
For his income I coverted his net income from his income tax form into Canadian $ and entered it.

I did not check off that I wanted a GST as it causes too much trouble for the one cheque I might get before I have gone to the USA to live (if all goes well)

Good luck,
Janet

CanadaRFE's
Thanks for the words of encouragement! I am pretty much resigned to not being able to finish the NVC and interview process by the end of June to co-incide with the end of the school year. So I applied for a summer school position, asking for both sessions. Perhaps by doing that, I will get everything done and be on the road to California.

I will keep you posted,

Saskatchewan does do computer generated birth certificates, but they are not the "long" form, they are called the "short" form. By the way, they no longer do wallet size ones if anyone is interested. I will fax the necessary forms in on Monday, and should have the computer generated b/c within 10 days. Perhaps when the supervisor checks things out they will find the "long" one sufficient, but I will not wait on their decision.

An update from today.

I spoke with a very nice woman at NVC late this afternoon. She's going to have my file pulled and looked at by a supervisor - this was her suggestion (I like it better when they think of it, rather than me asking).

She agreed with me that my Alberta marriage certificates, which are 8 x 7.5 inches are what is required as they are the largest size available.

They want a computer-generated birth certificate - I explained that being born in 1957 this might not be possible as they were handwritten and that I send in a long form certified photographic print of the registration on file at Vital Statistics, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. She did wonder since I received this form in 2002 maybe they are computer generated, I said I would call Saskatchewan in the morning and find out. If they will not do that she said to see if they would put something in writing, and to send that in to accompany my certified copy already received.

There appears to be a Divorce Certificate missing from my file - she cannot tell me which one and the supervisor will be able to tell which one it is from actually handling the paperwork.

This process will take 10 -15 days to complete.

I feel better today, but hate being in limbo.

CanadaRFE's

I did send in the long birth certificate with all the parent's information, live births etc. Flames as I called Saskatchewan and asked which one was needed for immigration to the USA. I did send in the flimsy piece of paper for the Alberta divorce from the Queen's Bench in Lethbridge, and one from the Superior Court here in BC, but because I have been married twice I was told I had to show marriage certificates also thus the need for them.
Calling and asking to speak to a supervisor is a good idea - I did not know that was an option I wonderf if they would have my file in front of them?
Today will be a better day I am sure with my new glasses smile.gif

Thanks

Thanks to-hope. And yes Itza, I had certified, stamped government issued documents to send in from both Canada and the USA so, no I was "not taking a stab" in the dark. However, I will make sure that once I get the proper documentation in and approved by NVC that the Canadians in this forum will know which birth certificate from Saskatchewan is necessary and what Marriage Certificates from Alberta are required. Good luck on your journey also.

crying.gif

I called the NVC this evening and the automated system said we had RFE. So I called to speak to a live person. Now I am so unhappy here are the RFE's

1) When we got married in San Luis Obispo, Ca. We ordered an extra marriage certificate - one for each of us. I sent in mine - they both looked identical. They don't like that one - so I will need to send in the other one. Both were on offical raised paper with offical seals from the State of California and the county of San Luis Obispo. I am not sure what to do if they don't like the other one.

2) I ordered the long birth certificate from Saskatchewan with the offical seal it cost $ 25.00 I guess that is not the right one. I will order the $ 50.00 one tomorrow by fax.

3) I ordered 2 marriage certificates from my previous marriages in Alberta they are not a full 8.5 x 11.5, but rather 6 x 8 size. I am not sure what to order now - the large wall size one or the Certified Photocopied print of the original Registration of Marriage.

The only thing I am sure of is the birth certificate so I will proceed with that, but will wait on the marriage certificates from Alberta until I get the actual email or snail mail on the RFE.

Needless to say I am downhearted at the moment.

Thanks for listening,

Janet

CanadaCase Completed at NVC
On the off chance that a supervisor had been through my file I called the automated system tonight and heard "Case Completed April 7, 2009." Thanks to Trailmix for suggesting that a supervisor look at my file and to all the others who were encouraging when I was so down. I knew I had put our file together properly, as I knew it might have some trouble with more than one marriage. I will now will have another birth certificate as I had already ordered the computer generated one from Saskatchewan but what the heck.

Now on to the waiting area for interviews in Montreal.

CanadaChoosing and some questions...
Welcome to VJ everyone here is amazingly helpful, and the guides will see you through the applications process no matter which one you chose.

We opted for the CR-1. It is the most economical and gives you the ability to work and travel right away once you have your interview in Montreal. We had a few delays along the way, but I am optimistic that it will be completed in less than a year.

Good luck in your journey!

CanadaPrep for medical records going to the USA
I was at my doctor's today get the Adecpt vaccination. I was asking her about my medical records and going to the States. She said that once I get a doctor in California, they will write asking for my records, then my doctor would send me a release form to sign, and I would have to pay a photocopying fee for her office to make a copy for use in California. The records are her property, and I can't have the orginals. To save time etc, she suggested I sign the release before I go and pay the fee ( $20.00) for photocopying so that no time is lost once I go south.
I thought that this was a good suggestion. Just thought I would pass this one, especially the part about the release of information form - maybe some drs don't charge for photocopying the records but it is another additional expense that needs to be considered.
