I have ordered my Social Security card in my married name. I just took my marriage certificate and passport with visa in it. When my husband added me to his credit card he just called the company and asked them to add me.
Not sure about DL, as I am waiting for SS card before I go there.

Good luck

Don't wait send everything in together if you are able. You will have less trouble and a false RFE when things are together.

Good luck,

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)deportation or denial of entry?
QUOTE (carslo @ Mar 1 2008, 10:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Here is a well written in clear language article on overstays which lead to action on the part of the USA.
http://www.tindallfo.../...atus[1].pdf

As to the mention that visits to the USA are accummulative towards a ban; the articles states

"Note that days in unlawful presense must be consecctive; multiple periods of unlawful presense, each not exceeding 180 days and seperated by departure from the United States, are not aggregated for the purpose of three- and ten-year bands."

Maybe this will help.

I was the beneficiary in Canada and I downloaded the forms from the internet and filled them out and sent them in along with my husband's financial information. I did not get anything from NVC.

Good luck,

National Visa Center (Dept of State)How do they schedule interviews?
I sure don't know how they figure it out! Cr-Ir's seem to be booked in faster than K1's. However, I was finished at NVC on April 7th for my Cr-1 and have my interview on June 22nd, while others who were finished with NVC after me; but still in April have had their interviews already. My adult daughter tried to appease my by saying that they must have a cut off date for the month, and then they assign the interviews alphabetically As my last name started with "S" ior "W" depending on married or maiden name it was scheduled for later in the month. It all depends on the volume of applicants too, and Montreal is way too busy. I know this doesn't really help you know when your interviews is, but it is some factual information.
Good luck with all this!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NO INTERVIEW FOR ME IN JULY :(
I thought for sure someone was going to get an interview in July; I just snuck in under the wire for June with a completion date of April 7th. When I was getting my medical done in Vancouver last month there were a lot of people going to Montreal that were being sponsered by their parents. It is a crying shame that Montreal is the only place now that does immigration visas - back in the day my sister had her's and her family's done in Calgary. Keep your chins up and try not to be glum, we all feel for you.

Unfortunately, we are at their mercy and I am sure that it will not be 8 weeks to hear something but you never know.

Our case was completed on April 7th, after a supervisor reviewed our case - as they said that I was missing or had sent the wrong documents and I was more than positive that I had completed our package correctly.

Now we are waiting for an interview in Montreal.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBest petition to file??
Welcome to VJ,

THe fastest could be the K3, but it is also the most expensive at over $1400 and has many disadvantages once your loved one reaches American soil. The CR-1 for marriage under 2 years, or the IR-1 for marriage over two years at the time of interview is the best visa for married couples, and the least expensive at around $825. Read the guides under the VisaJourney.com headline to familiarize yourself with which may work best for you. The approval time on these type of visas are not that far apart.

Good luck which every road you chose to travel.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK3 best way to go?
Welcome VJ,

The most cost effective way to be with your partner is to get married and then apply for the CR-1 visa, the waiting is the hardest part, but the sooner you are married the faster it will go. The fastest way is the K1 - the fiance visa. CR-1 are only processed in Montreal, but the K1, and K3 are done in Vancouver if you live west of Winnipeg. Any path that you chose has both benefits and disadvantages. Remember it takes awhile to get things in order for any of the visas. ie: copies of long birth certificates, marriage/divorce certificates both parties, depending on any custody arrangements -the ability to take your children to another country. Many of these things you can start with right on Monday - (long birth certificates).
Good luck and stop by for frequent doses of cheering up!

I can only say, we were not willing to risk a ban of any amount of time. See our time line below for clarification. I am returning to Vancouver on January 3rd after a 176 day visit to the states, during that time we were married.

Good luck no matter what raod you chose.

CanadaUS Citizen coming to Canada
Thank you for guiding me in some direction in regards to web sites to contact. I have looked at them all so far. As Flames9 states no matter what your income you have access to health care in Canada. I have 100% medical/dental benefits at my job in Vancouver and live in one of the most expensive cities in Canada. My fiance lives in Los Angeles - another expensive city in the USA, and has to pay for his medical and dental benefits. The income taxes for both countries will most likely be the deciding factor. I am sure he will not sever all ties with USA as he has children there.
I just wanted a place to start looking and I believe that an Inland Sponsorship is the route to go. He moves here, we get married and then I start to sponsor him. As he will be retired there will be no urgency, if any, for him to work.
Thanks again,
Carslo

CanadaUS Citizen coming to Canada
My fiance (56) is thinking about retiring and then moving here to Canada to marry and live with me (48) until I retire; then we will most likely go to retire in Virginia. Can anyone give me any information on US citizens coming to Canada, then getting married, and then applying for landed immigrant status in Canada? I know this is not a usual question for this site. I did go look at the yahoo site, but it is cumbersome to find actual info there.
Thanks in advance.

CanadaFormal Documentation for K-1 process
Thank you for your help all. Since I will be processed through Vancouver it appears that I will need both the marriage certificates and the divorce decrees. I will write to Alberta to get the necessary documentation. Maybe if I get some things done earlier, the burden of the costs will not appear so great.
Thanks again,

CanadaCanadian Grocery List....
I am older so my list is different:

Rogers Golden Syrup
Sultana Raisins for butter tarts
Bird's Eye Custard for Nanimo Bars
Pickled Onions
HP Sauce
Frozen 5 Alive juice
Pork tenderloin
Shirriff's Lemon Pie filling
Gripe Water
Tylenol and cough syrup with codine from behind the pharmacy counter without a RX
KFC tastes different there
and for chips and gravy buy a deep fat fryer and use home made turkey gravy it is just about the same.

However, the USA has many products that Canadians can learn to enjoy once there; and more importantly we will be with the one we love - priceless!

I have used www.hotwire.com for everything from airline tickets, to car rentals, to hotels and have always been pleased with the results. Those to whom I have recommended have had good success also. If you get out to Richmond, we have Tim's in about 5 places and there is one at the airport also.

I have been watching your journey closely as I live in BC and will be applying for a K1 as soon as Carnell's divorce is finalized, my heart went out to you and your wife as I read of the setback you have encountered. As an already established more mature couple, I had not anticipated you would have been beset with any difficulties. Good luck with this pothole in the road of your visa journey.

CanadaUsing the Vancouver Airport to visit Bellingham
Border line ups have been up to 3 - 4 hours on holiday weekends BEFORE the equalization of the Can/USA dollar. Allow lots of time. Last Easter I spend 3.5 hours in the Abbotsford border crossing into the USA for dinner at my sister's
As an American you can drive your parent's vehicle, but it won't hurt to have a letter from them. No Canadian can drive a US vehicle into Canada - it is grounds for arrest.
You only need BC and another piece of photoID to cross the border by car, but you need a valid passport to fly out of YVR to USA. I believe the rules are changing for cross border travel with a BC in January 2008.

I can't stress giving yourself tons of time on either side of the border when coming by car.
