I am hoping to spend the majority of our waiting period in the USA, can you do the immigration medical in the USA and take it with you to the interview?

Thanks,

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Visa Expire before use
I read your timeline and unfortunately if she is not in the USA within 6 months of the visa being issued you will have to start all over again. I know this is not what you want to hear but the rules are pretty clear. She must enter the USA within 180 days and married within 90 days.

Good luck.

CanadaWhat do you do?
I am a School and Student Support Worker at an elementary school in Vancouver - I have been in the same school for 18 years. I work with mentally and physically challenged students, mostly those with ASD - Autistic Spectrum Disorders. I love my job! I have also managed group homes for mentally and medically challenged adults leaving the institutions, and I worked in a mental hospital in Alberta for 11 years. I am really hoping that I will be able to continue my career when I get to Los Angeles. I went back to university in 2002 when my youngest daughter aslo started, and graduated in 2006 with a BA in General Studies and a minor in History; this was in preparation to moving to the USA to improve on my ability to get another great job. Nice to hear about all the interesting things people have done.

Canadawhy did u choose to live in US instead of Canada?
Top 10 Reasons to move South

1 - Carnell said it was too cold in Canada -hmmm I live in the Vancouver area
2 - He works for the US government, good pay, benefits, and a great job perfectly suited to him 4/10s and can work from home 85 % of the time
3 - He received a promotion and wants to work another 10 years
4 - He has a house
5 - I have lived in the states before (10 yrs) and have no objections to returning
6 - I have a touch of wanderlust in my blood
7 - Can't beat the weather in southern California
8 - One of my daughters will be living in the USA in about 2 years
9 - I will never make as much money here, as he does there
10 - Maternity leave is not an issue for us - we are passed having kids

That being said, if anything should happen to go wrong with the final part of the visa journey, Carnell said he would move to Canada, but I would have to turn the heat up more and use it more than just Nov 1 to Mar 31.

CanadaK-3 or I-130 after marriage, husband in BC
We were married last July and I returned to Canada in January to persue the CR-1 - it is the most economical and most practical. We could have shaved about 1.5 months off of our time listed line below by paying all fees on line, and not being held up at NVC for an extra week. Please see my time line for an estimate of time.

Good luck and you will find all the help you need here!

CanadaI called NVC this morning
I held off calling as long as I could, the nice young lady at NVC read her message off to me without a hitch, but alas no interview yet. They will email us when we have a date - "due to capacity we unfortunately weren't successful for May, (yep knew that already) and once again due to capacity there is no way of knowing for June."
However, I am collecting decent boxes at work to be able to start packing up the remaining odd and ends around the place. I hate the thought of paying for boxes, when the school is always receiving good and sturdy boxes on a regular basis. For years, I have had a place off the activity room where I hoarded boxes, and when people were moving they came to me for some.
I am feeling more anxious waiting for an interview date than any other part of the process. I wake up early in the morning to check my email. I wonder if they keep a record of how many times you call in to see about progress on your case? In some of the other forums folks are calling 3 - 4 times a day.
Well time to go a bit of quilting before work.

Enjoy your day everyone!

CanadaCanadian Birth Certificate.
Finally, I have the offical looking BC from Saskatchewan (it took 24 days to get here, even with faxing in the request form) - hmm looks like the scanned one from a previous posting. I ordered the computer generated ones - as NVC led me to believe that the handwritten "long" 8.5 x 14 certified copy of the Registration of Live Birth would not be sufficient (which it turned out it was acceptable by the NVC supervisor.) So now I have all 3 yes 3 types of BC from Saskatchewan. I am glad that I didn't have to wait on the BC from Regina to complete the process at NVC or it would have taken until almost May to get there.

So the three I have now are the short, long (which is the same size as the short), and the certified copy of the original Certificate of Live Birth. It is nice to have the last one, as there is my Mum's handwriting on it, and she passed in 2000.

It is important that everyone ordering BC from Canada realize that NVC, at the first level of examination of our papers want a computer generated copy with parental information = long copy. If Trailmix hadn't suggested that a supervisor look at my file, and I had just gone on what the Documentation Checklist asked for; our case would have been delayed an additional 4 - 5 weeks.

Good luck everyone!

Congrats on your interview date! Yes, I called on Friday and no word yet. Each consulate is different in assigning dates, and Montreal is an exceptionally busy consulate - so I was wondering if any others who needed to go to Montreal were lurking around smile.gif

CanadaDS-230 questions about trips to the u.s (I need help please)
I lived in the US from 1965 to 1975, my father was recruited away from the RCAF to work for an airline in the USA. I had a green card, which I subsequentially lost after I returned to Canada. I did, however; have the # from my Alien Registration card and have used that on all documentation throughout this process.
When I was compiling my trips to the USA for the period of 1956 to 1975, I stated that I was living in the USA, due to my father's immigration for work and that I was unsure of what type of visa it was.

Also I was very specific with each trip I made to visit Carnell starting in 2001(40+), and then just stated thay my family lived in the USA and I made frequent trips across the border to visit, none lasting longer than 3 weeks.

Good luck.

CanadaMoving from Richmond BC to Hawthorne California
Since I like to have all my options well researched in advance. I have started the "getting what I don't think I can live without or want to live without," moving quotes. I just wanted to share what the ABF renocube and PODS container differences are:

ABF- $1220.00 - a week for you to load and then take it away, 3 days tansit time, 6' x 7' x 8' cube, limited insurance
PODS - $2855.29 - a month for you to load and take away, 10 -12 days transit time, 8' x8' x7' cube $ 10, 000.00 insurance

I have also looked at driving a u-haul and that is not something I am inclined to do as I don't think I will be taking my 88 Honda Accord with 350, 000 kms smile.gif

Just wanted to share

CanadaMarriage during the US visit
Excellent reply Kathryn! redBlue that is what I did also and we are almost at the end of the journey; see my timeline or below for details. As for visiting, I went in March for 10 days with no trouble - I used a land crossing and will be going again in 11 days but flying out this time. I always carry a slew of paperwork to document where we are in the CR-1 process and my times to Canada and thus far have had no problems.
Good luck and congrats on our marriage! You will find pretty much all you need on ths website to complete the process.

CanadaWhat agency has anyone used to have their degree/s evaluated?
I have also been research which agency/company to use to have my BA evaluted to an American comparable. The Los Angeles Unified School District recommends the Internation Education Research Foundation www.ierf.org, I was curious as to what other folks have used as the price varies from $ 45.00 to $ 160.00 also what forms of documentation also ie: 1 - 2 sets of your offical transcripts either submitted in some cases or actually send by the university, notorized copy of actual degree to just a photocopy. Anyone been through this process yet or thought about it?

Thanks,

CanadaHow much is the taxi from YUL - Montreal airport to d/t Montreal?
Hi everyone!
I would really like to have everything prepared and not have any surprises when I go for my interview in Montreal.
My flight doesn't get into Montreal until midnight (but I used my Air Miles and saved a bunch of money), on the night before my interview - I figure I am not going to sleep much either. So while I know that there is a shuttle service to d/t, I don't want to wait around the airport to catch it. So if anyone has taken a taxi to near the consulate and can you let me know aproximately the cost. Yes, I did a Google search, and on Yahoo answers it stated around $ 40.00. Sounds about right, makes me glad I saved all those Air Miles and booked my hotel on Hotwire smile.gif

Thanks in advance,

Janet

CanadaAAA - my new American $50 friend
The Geico works even in Canada, my daughter's b/f lives in Seattle and we are in Vancouver area. The ignition on his Focus became locked with visiting us, and all he did was phone Geico and they sent a truck and towed his car to the Ford dealership. BTW this is a frequent problem with the Focus model - but there has not been a recall.
My BCAA memebership is up for renewal this month and I have been debating whether or not to renew it for another year, as it would still be usable in California this topic has clarified things in my mind - Yes renew.

CanadaMoving your stuff prior to K1 Approval
I have mailed down candles - my sister was a Partylite dealer and I had lots of expensive product. You can not send flammable things in with your stuff you are moving with a professional mover or containers. I have mailed a few boxes as I was going for a 5.5 month visit last year and I wanted the things with me. Other than that I have pared down everything to fit in an 7' x 8' x 6' container to go after the interview.

Good luck!

You don't have to have it, it just helps because it means someone HAS to sign for it, it's a bit safer. If you don't get the signature sticker, they can just dump it by your door or whatever. I just felt safer getting it, to ensure it comes right to my hands given the precious cargo enclosed!!

Thanks for the heads up, I went back and bought the sticker and put it on the envelope last night. Where would we be without each of the for support and guidance.

I am flying into YUL, my flight arrives late so I am taking a taxi approximate cost for taxi one way to d/t Montreal is 40.00. I booked my hotel on Hotwire it is a 3.5 star and was $66.00 a night US. I will be 1.5 miles from the consulate but a walk in June will not hurt me at all.

CanadaAnother added expense while preparing for the immigration medical
So glad others have not had this added expense. On the plus side, I have been doing some baby quilts to pass the waiting time and one of my co-workers was interested in purchasing one. I quoted her $ 65.00 even before I booked the appointment. So the expense was offset by the selling of a quilt. Funny thing was the quilt was made totally from odds and ends I had smile.gif

CanadaAnother added expense while preparing for the immigration medical
I just wanted to let others know that I have another expense to add to the ever growing list.
I am preparing for my medical here in Vancouver. On the list from the office there, it states that you need to have a note from your dr regarding any chronic medical issues and the medication that you take for it. I have viral induced asthma (sometimes when I get a cold I start this awful coughing), when necessary I take an enhaled steriod for a few weeks and I am back to normal. So off I went to the doctor yesterday to get this written on a perscription pad. After I explained this to my dr and she read what the immigration drs instructions stated, she wrote it all down for me. Then she said, "I have to charge you for an office visit, as MSP doesn't cover immigration matters. I won't charge you the $20.00 for writing the note - only $65.00 for the visit." I said "I hope you will take a cheque?" she laughed and said "only if you are not leaving the country tomorrow." So just another expense to add.
Maybe my dr is a sticklier for the rules, but she had always been a great dr. I am certainly not cross with her for charging me.
I hope others do not encounter this, but now we can all be prepared.

For those at home who are using the Bunn machine, are you using 18% coffee cream? Or the US equivalent? That is what they use at Timmie's and that really kicks the flavour up when you brew it at home to match the instore experience. That is what they told me to do at Timmies here in BC when I complained that it didn't taste the same.

Good luck in your home brewing smile.gif
