IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures$ 400.00 payment by regular mail
Well, if I was going to pay it; it would have been online but my husband chose to pay it by cashier's check and regular mail. Yes, it prolonged the process, but the end result will be the same.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures$ 400.00 payment by regular mail
Just wanted those who opt to pay by regular mail and a cashier's check that it took 15 days for our payment to be received and entered into the system. The bonus, was that we received a lovely 2 page PDF file from NVC stating that all fees were paid and with instructions for the next set of paperwork. Thanks to this site we have everything ready to mail off this afternoon.

Thanks all and good luck with your journey.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhich way is the most cost effective in the long haul

CR-1 - cheapest but slowest, does not require adjustment of status
K1 - fastest but requires adjustment of status
K3 - faster than CR-1 but requires adjustment of status and an additional filing fee over the K1.

However, I just noticed that you're in Vancouver. If you file for a CR-1, you'd have to interview in Montreal and spend that money on flying out there and a hotel. Montreal is notoriously slow with interviews as well.

So the cheapest and fastest option for you would be the K1 (you'd interview in Vancouver). However adjustment of status is a big headache for a lot of people, so... consider your options and how much time you are willing to wait and the costs involved.

Thanks for the reply, I thought CR-1's were being done in Vancouver now? With advance parole and adjustment of status fees and time, it might be better not to go K1, I have been saving my airmiles just incase I need to book a flight to Montreal. Good luck with your paperwork in Vancouver.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhich way is the most cost effective in the long haul
Hello fellow Journiers,

My fiance's divorce is soon and we are starting to weigh our options. We have been together for six years now, so I we had to wait a few months longer it would not be an issue. I know the K-1 process inside and out, and while it appears to be a shorter journey, I am wondering if in the long run actually getting married and doing it another way would possibly save money and frustration overall.
I live in Canada and he lives in California and we are both middle-aged so the thought of hurrying along for the sake of starting a family and such is not an issure.
I am wondering what some others thoughts on this might be.

Thanks in advance,
Carslo (stands for Carnell's love) not some strange version of Carlos :)

Try posting in the Canada forum. I know if visiting Canda you can get travel health insurance to suppliment your province's health care, but not sure what the process is if you are immigrating to the USA.

IR-1/CR-1 would be the I-130 on the processing page.

Take a look at the timelines and decide what is best for you.

Post in the Canada forum for advise more closely related to USA and Canada.
Good luck in which ever road you choose.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWHO ELSE IS WAITING FOR INTERVIEW?????
I called one night and was told to call back after the 15th of the month, and late the next afternoon I received the email about out interview. Our case needed to be looked at by a supervisor - it would have been completed in March if the original case agent had of known what documents are acceptable from Canada. Can't do anything about that now. So try not to get discouraged, your interview date will be assigned before you know it.

Good luck,

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR-1 questions
I understand your apprehension and worry. We never lived together either and I am cutting and pasting our cover letter so you can see how much we send with the initial application for the CR-1. We did not have to produce anything else at the NVC stage and my interview is next month. I will take a sampling of boarding passes, photos, cards, and phone records (sparse we use MSN chat to talk.)

Good luck,
Janet

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresoff the topic, no questions, how come?
Don't get discouraged it is a long process and can't be acheived in a short period of time. I thought the whole process would take approximately 1 year aka 365 days from filing to interview even though I am from Canada. From filing to interview date it was 10 months give or take a few days. Prepare for a year for the process and if it takes shorter than that you have been fortunate.

Good luck on a speedy journey,

I can't dance very well, but I called the NVC automated system tonight and was overjoyed to hear the system say that my case was completed on April 7th. I guess when the supervisor looked over my case everything was there - just as I thought it was.

So the wait is on now for an interview - June would be perfect but July would be more realistic.

Thanks for all the positive messages.

I had my medical in Vancouver, BC Canada on Wednesday. When I was handed my chest xray the white envelope was stapled to the chest xray's envelope and she said "all is fine, do not worry." Another woman was not fine and she was told that there was a problem and she left crying and very upset.

Print out your transcripts from your previous semesters if you are returning to school in the fall, or a prof you can contact about your return. A note from even your GP about your upcoming surgery would help also. Do you have cell phone bills or a contract with a cellular provider? Anything that shows you still have ties to Canada will help. I know how apprehensive boarder crossing can be. Remember be honest! Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCourt Certified Copy of a Divorce Decree
I have my original copy of my divorce decree, but from reading everything I thought I had to have a separate piece of paper from the courthouse saying "yes, she is divorced." Here in British Columbia (where I live now) you pay an extra $25.00 and get a piece of paper that states that after 30 days you are free and clear to remarry. So I am confused even before I start the process. :(

Hi,
I have been trying for two months to get a court certified copy of my divorce decree from Alberta. Before investing in a long distance phone call, I was wondering if anyone here has gotten one out of Alberta.

I am 50 and Carnell is 58, we have been together since late 2001. We are almost to the point of filling a K1. Maturity has been our saving grace during the long haul. I worry about leaving 2 grown daughters and a one year old granddaughter, and also about finding decent employment with a school district as large as Los Angeles, but there must be a stronger power guiding us - as the road has been long and full of lots of potholes.
