K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresjust askin' for an idea

I use blue ink to sign forms (to make it easier to distinguish originals from copies).  However, on the back of passport type photos that were submitted with the I129 I wrote our names in pencil (if I remember correctly there was something in the USCIS filing instructions about this, using a pencil or something else).   Good luck :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuick question but important

I checked our NOA2 also and it had the same thing, about filing the I824 for another consulate, so it looks doable :)    Best wishes!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 questions! you all are awesome

The previous posters are correct.  Depending on how quickly or slowly your case is processed you may not need the I134 for a few to many months from now. Good luck! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 Question

I didn't have this when I was completing the I134 however, I was thinking that maybe you could write "See attached" and then attach a second page where you can then add information for both.  Perhaps someone else has been through this and can weigh in with their experience.

Wishing you the best of luck! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresi-134 taxes question?

I believe you may need to write a letter explaining why you have not filed taxes (those reasons you stated above, i.e. making less than required amount to file, student/dependent, etc.)    Good luck! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisa Denied - US Consulate Mumbai

That's the part I struggle with the most, as long as all requirements are met and there are no negative strikes against the applicants (i.e. criminal activity, etc.) then I would think that based on the positive qualities would push that application through.  Perhaps like you said, they had an issue with your previous marriage and the time-frames, hard to say unless they happen to tell you.  Is marriage in India a possibility (in effect going through the CR1 route)?

awww...I'm so sorry.  It certainly does not sound fair.  I don't understand why the officers don't take all the evidence into consideration when making 'life changing' decisions for people.  I really hope there will be a way to successfully resolve this so that you both can be together! sad.png

IndiaHelp on DS-260 questions

Hi,

My fiance has his interview on Oct 3rd in Delhi. I emailed US Travel docs as well because I keep seeing posts about the DS-260. We have already sent in his DS-230 and have been told that all of his necessary documents are there. US travel docs emailed me back saying that we do not need to complete the DS-260 but, to bring the email that they sent stating this to the interview as evidence. Maybe you guys can email them as well if you're unsure? I started to fill it out but, then got to the question of the petitioner and there was no fiance option - I did not want to put spouse for fear of them accusing us of already being married at the interview.

Seems that US Travel Docs is giving out mixed information.  My fiance contacted them about this and they advised that he should complete the 260 and not the 230. My finance is also going to take a printout of his conversation with them to his interview and he has completed both the 260 and the 230. Because of the "spouse" question this form certainly doesn't seem to apply to K1 applications but I have talked with others who were told the same thing we were so it's just confusing.

Wishing your fiance good luck on his interview :)

IndiaHelp on DS-260 questions

There has been a great deal of confusion about this! We were instructed by the Visa help (USTravelDocs) folks that he was to complete it and not the 230.  So what we had decided that because there was the confusion we would just do both to be on the safe side.  :)    Maybe after Lalit has his interview we will have a better idea if it's actually required at the Mumbai embassy (I certainly hope not!)  ;)

IndiaHelp on DS-260 questions

Hi All,

We are in the process of filling DS-260 and have below questions on that

1. There is a question where it asks us to fill out the educational institutes attended. I am confused that whether it is asking for my 10th grade, 12th grade and College level details or just 12th and college level details. Please also note that i have passed my 10th and 12th grade from the same school so in the section where it asks for the number of educational institutions attended will be 2 or 3.

2. In the petitioner details it is asking for the details who has filed for petition but i can't see the option to choose Fiance from the drop down list. The closest which i can relate or choose is Spouse so should i select the option Spouse because it is the only one which makes most of the sense to fill that section of DS-260.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

IndiaMumbai medical appointment

Update:  My fiance called the clinic and the woman he spoke with was very understanding and kind.  She squeezed him to tomorrow's schedule, 9 am.  He's on his way to Mumbai now!! Fingers crossed everything goes well :D

IndiaMumbai medical appointment

Thanks and I agree completely about the time frame of the scheduling the appointment.  I'm sure things will work out just like they are supposed to, it's just hard not to worry :)  He also doesn't live in Mumbai and will have to take days off work to travel there (it happens to be the closest to him of the all the doctors listed--he is in Pune).  If we had been given more notice the appointment would have been scheduled in a more timely manner from our side but there is not much we can do about it other than to work with what we were given.  We are desperately trying to make it work because we just hate the thought of having to postpone the interview and therefore postponing our being together again.  As I'm sure you can fully understand.  It definitely helps to hear encouraging words though! :D

IndiaMumbai medical appointment

It definitely does help.  My fiance will be having his medical appointment completed for the K1 visa but I would guess the process is about the same.  He also does not have vaccination records so he will just have to have whatever they recommend.  However, our issue is that he just got notice on Fri. 9/6/13 that his interview is scheduled for Mon. 9/23/13.  And of course today is a holiday and the clinic was closed.  So he has to wait until tomorrow to try and schedule his appointment.  How long ago did your wife call to make her appointment?  We are hoping that they can get him in this week or there just won't be enough time to have the medical done before his interview.

IndiaMumbai medical appointment

Hi Guys,

We were wondering if any of those of you that have had your medical exam in Mumbai (India) could share your experience, especially regarding scheduling and how quickly you were able to get in to see the doctor, how long your appointment took that day, etc.

My fiance (Abhinav) just got his interview letter on Sept. 6th, showing that his K1 interview has been Sept. 23rd., only about 2 weeks notice.  We feel that we have everything else in order (or close to) but are really worried about the medical appointment and having it done on time (and of course, tomorrow starts a festival and most offices are closed for the day).  Definitely stressful!

Thanks and we appreciate any input or shared stories you can provide :D

Carrie :)

Thank you and same to you when you have yours! :)

IndiaWhich forms are included in packet3?

My fiance ran into this same issue.  The first time he contacted the Travel Docs help person he was told to complete the DS260.  The second time he contacted them about this they told him that he is to follow the instructions given by the consulate and fill out the forms they request.  Because of the question on the DS260 you mentioned he did not want to complete that form and have them think we are already married so he is taking the DS230 with him to the interview (it is this coming Monday, 23rd @ Mumbai Consulate).  Guess we'll know better after his interview but we are just going with what the instructions say for "Packet 3" and "Packet 4".

Indiaits urgent and need help !!

We had the same happen to us, received the interview appointment letter by email but nothing else.  We downloaded packet 3 and 4 from online.  My fiance's interview is tomorrow (at Mumbai consulate) and this is what we are doing.  We were told not to send anything to the embassy ahead of time, just to complete everything and take it to the interview.  Regarding the DS260, we were initially told (by us travel docs) to complete it.  However, once we reviewed the form we were uneasy with one of the questions, it pertains to the petitioner and being a "spouse".  Of course we didn't want to submit something like this so my fiance contacted the 'Us Travel Docs' folks again.  This time he was told NOT to complete the DS260 and only to complete the forms requested in the instructions.

When is your interview and which embassy?

IndiaWhat to wear for interview in New Delhi?

Oddly enough, this was a conversation my fiance and I had before he went for his interview.  We briefly considered a formal suit but then decided that might be too much and draw unnecessary attention.  At the same time, we didn't want him to be too casual, just in case.  So he ended up wearing business attire: dress slacks, dress shoes, shirt and tie.  When I asked him how others were dressed in comparison he said that most were dressed either casually (in jeans and tops) or wearing traditional Indian clothing (i.e. Kurta).  He said that he did not see anyone very dressed up and no one in business suits.   Obviously your situations are different since he's a man but hope this helps out somewhat :)

My fiance has also lived in several states and he only had to get a clearance from his current state :)

IndiaFrom where to get Police clearance certificate In India for K1 Visa?

All instructions we have read (including Mumbai Consulate instructions) are to obtain PCC from the passport office.

IndiaDo we need to send Packet 3 and 4?

Hey guys, I was wondering whether they send Packet 3 or 4 at all now.  Do you just get a letter telling you your scheduled interview date?

Reviewing the Packet 4 on the Mumbai consulate website, it pretty much tells us, the applicants, to schedule the interviews.  It even gives option to reschedule interview dates.  Is that not up-to-date information?

Can you pay the K1 Visa fee via online, or it must be done at a bank?

When do you complete the DS-160 online? After the consulate reaches out to the beneficiary?

I'd really appreciate you help smile.png

From what I believe, the Indian consulates do not send out packets 3 and 4, rather the beneficiary just gets an email with a scheduled date and you take all the information with you the day of.  If you have not yet done so, you will need to go onto the travel docs site and set up an account (this gives them your contact information, etc).

As far as I know, the fees are paid at the bank and you take the receipt to show you paid them but I am not sure if this is the only option or if you can still pay at the consulate.

I don't know if it matters when you complete the 160, just as long as it's complete before you go to your interview and you have the printout.  My fiance happened to do his after he was already scheduled.

Good luck! Hope you are scheduled soon :)

IndiaDo we need to send Packet 3 and 4?

Additionally if this will help: My fiance just finished her medical and already has both the police clearance and passport clearance certificates. Only medical and police clearance is necessary but we got passport clearance out of an abundance of caution. I would do these soon as police clearance can take 1 week and scheduling medical can be a hassle as well.

You did very good by taking the PCC from Passport office because that's what they really need for the PCC. We are trying very hard to get the PCC but we had no idea that we are going to be scheduled on 23rd which has left us with almost no time so we are praying. Thanks for all your information though! :)

IndiaDo we need to send Packet 3 and 4?

Hi,

It seems that sending Packet 3 & 4 to Mumbai consulate is no longer necessary. Just fill it out and take it with you to interview. This info. was gleaned by calling the desk help line. You can do the same to confirm. My fiance's visa is 23rd Sept as well in Mumbai. Best of Luck!! smile.png

Amit

Thank you so much and good luck to you both as well! :D

IndiaDo we need to send Packet 3 and 4?

HI All,

We just received the interview letter on 6th Sep saying that we have an interview at 23rd Sep 2013 at Mumbai Consulate. We are not completely prepared yet and have lot of things to prepare for the interview. We are little confused with few things and need your opinions

1. Do we need to send packet 3 and 4 even after we received the interview letter?

2. If yes, then where do we send it and by which medium? I mean do we need to courier it or need to send by using India post only? (our interview is scheduled just after 2 weeks so we don't want any delays)

3. Can someone please explain this whole process as we are not too sure that we have to submit the photocopies along with the checklist or not?

Can someone please answer the above questions for us in detail as many people have gone through similar situation?

Thank you so much!

K-3 Spousal Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhat does this mean ?? Case transferred to local office

We got the same thing in July about our petition.  Our petition was initially sent to Vermont but they were so backed up they couldn't handle everything so a lot of petitions were transferred to other offices.  Ours was sent to Texas.  Because we didn't know where it was sent at that time, we gave it a few days and then I called the UCSIS customer service number and spoke with a tier 2 officer.  He was able to tell me where our petition was and gave an approximate processing time frame.  It was only a few short weeks after the transfer that we had our approval smile.png  Hope this helps and best of luck! biggrin.png

USCIS Service Centerscase status !!!!

You may want to give it a few days and then call the USCIS customer service number if you can't find it online.  Just a tip, you will more than likely want to speak to a tier 2 officer if you call.  While we filed the I129f, I am guessing the process is similar. When I called the first person I spoke with wasn't able to see where our petition was.  I asked that a tier 2 officer call me back and received a call the next day, Saturday.  I was able to get all my questions answered, specifically, I knew exactly where the petition had been sent and what the status and time frame were (there was nothing listed online for Texas, which is where ours went).

Wish you luck!!  goofy.gif

USCIS Service CentersK-1 Visa Processing Times: 2nd NOA: 5 months, really?

Everything folks are saying is absolutely true.  There doesn't really seem to be any rhyme or reason behind processing times.  Guess it's just the luck of the draw.  Ours took about 6 months and like someone else said, ours was very straight forward (no marriages, no kids, no criminal records, etc.)  Guess it all depends on your service center and how busy they are at the time.  I would suggest using the time you have to read threads, research upcoming processes, etc. and be very organized!

Best of luck to you! smile.png
