Africa: Sub-Saharangoing to pursue CR-1, live with him abroad (not in his home country). how will this affect the visa process
OP, I think you will probably have to make several trips to his country if you're doing a K-1 and he can't come visit you here.

About you being young, I think it does have some factor into it, because in my case, my husband is 22 and I am 21, and during the interview, the CO railed on him for being "too young" and "why are you not studying?"
But he passed, because I promised them I would finish college, I would be able to support him, and we met when he came here in the US, and I also lived with him for 3 months in his country.

You just have to prove that it is a real relationship by going the extra mile and spending the money to visit a couple of times, and get good support, whether it's by getting a good job or having co-sponsors. You have to be prepared for the long wait if you do K-1 and be prepared for the interview especially since it's Nigeria. Be prepared to be put in AP if it happens.

Maybe I'm immature, but when we were going through the process, we would always joke that if he got denied then we would just live in the jungle of Thailand

I think you can do it! Good luck!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIs a K-3 Visa process easier than a K-1?
Does that mean that they will be less harsh at the interview with him if he is going for a K-1 instead of us getting married and then trying to have him immigrate here? Whichever is better for him I want to do.

We are going to get married in Thailand, but we were wondering if it will be harder for him to immigrate to the US through this method.

True, it does say average. :( It all depends on the embassy... I would love for it to be in December, guess we'll just have to wait more. If it's any longer, it's beyond what they claim. Surprising?

I sent you a PM...did you get it??

The new schedule is up and we're not on it. Thought it might've been (they received P3 on October 6), but I guess we'll be on the next. It appears we'll be on the far side of the 8-10 week timeframe, but I/we was prepared. I've been thinking mid December for a while, and that surely could be the case now.

It's normal for this to happen though, isn't it? They only received P3 a few weeks ago, and they're a lot of cases to be processed. I would think so?

It's an average from SENDING packet 3 to the actual interview date of 75 days. That means that we have to be in December.... :( Right?

Has he been checked out at a clinic or something yet? Hope he's ok. I just checked the schedule and they've posted it as of September 28th. Isn't this the same one that was posted before they re-posted the June one again? Looks like it. Hopefully they post the October schedule shortly after their holiday.

They're back. And Ice is going to a doctor today. And going out to search for water. The place he lives they have resorted to boiling it, but he doesn't trust it. :( I never thought this would happen....whyyyyyyy

Unfortunately, the embassy closes for all Thai and American holidays. It is a good job if you can get two countries holidays off if you can get it. I was in the same boat as you when Pui sent her packet 3 in because we sent ours at the beginning of April and had to deal with the embassy being closed for Songkran. The only thing we could do was wait until we heard from the embassy. I did email the embassy asking if they had an interview date set and they replied back saying "no we do not yet have a date set yet" then later that day I got a new email with packet 4 with the interview date. Here is the embassy's list of public holidays they are closed. http://bangkok.usemb...v/holidays.html

Packet 4 is just the embassy sending you the interview date. Sometimes you can switch embassies to have your interview there but you would need the new embassies permission to do that and you need a good reason to do it. If it were me I would wait it out. You have come so far already. Plus I think it would cause more of a delay to try and find a new embassy who would take your case and then have it transferred to new country and then wait in line for an interview like you are currently are in the process of doing. You did all you can do by sending packet 3 back to the embassy and waiting to hear back from them. If you have not contacted the embassy in the past month since you sent packet 3 give them an email asking if they have your interview date yet. Good luck.

The thing is that there was a declared holiday for AREAS OF FLOODING for businesses. The embassy is in a safe place, I called earlier that day and they said they would operate as normal. And not to mention that means all the ppl who had an interview date from 27-31 have to be rescheduled.

Thanks tho. This has been really hard on us. Especially Ice.

And also they said they will not respond to emails until Nov.

If you visit the website now, it says that they will be closed from 27-31 of October. They said it's because of government holiday. WTH

By the way, is it possible to go to a neighboring country and fill their packet 4 and pay the fee again?

Ice is in the flooding area now, and we don't know what to do. I wish he could get here now....there are diseases spreading there!! He is very weak lately and always getting sick. I hope the food/water isn't contaminated!

Nottolong, that is a good idea for you to email them. I don't think that I should email them for a while because I emailed them already this week.

US Citizenship General DiscussionDisheartening Boston Cititzenship Interview

You really have to start filing jointly to avoid trouble during naturalization especially if your sposuse is going to apply for naturalization based on having been to a permanent residdent for three years and married to USC. You have to know that it is very rare for an USC to still live with his/her parents even after 18years. Unless you show that the other things you have jointly far outweigh not filing together. Also you have to know that even though your parents can claim you on their tax, you and your spouse can stil file jointly so filing seperate is not an excuse.

Yep this year should be fine. :)

US Citizenship General DiscussionDisheartening Boston Cititzenship Interview

Did you file based on three or five year of permanent residency? The fact that you didn't file your taxes together was the problem. Now the officers are very suspicious about that because they think you just got married to get your green card. I had almost the same problem and it took three years and different state to be able to get my citizenship even though I had a child with my ex-wife and paying child support. I suggest you wait and hopefully they give the benefit of doubts and approve you. My bet is that they will send you a letter doubting your marriage. Anyway good luck

Is filing married but separate a problem? I'm only 21 and my parents claimed me in 2011 because I was still living with them most of the time and they get a tax break for claiming me, plus my husband got here in Dec 2011.... and in my AOS interview, the interviewer acted the same way as the OP's interviewer for her citizenship. If it is, I have to make sure we file "jointly" this time...

That's what says he has been doing. It has not been working for him; he is now stuck in a conflict with his wife and ex over his children, so he has to do something different.

If he were to start hiding it, it would probably be bad if she found out, though.

I am a Filipina-American, and I don't know if I technically count as a Filipina with the same kind of cultural thinking, but to me, exes are a big deal. Ice used to recieve phone calls from ex gfs, and it drove me up a wall. Probably because I am young, too. Seriously the best thing you can do is prove, over time, that there is nothing between you, by keeping phone calls short, keeping nothing secret, and not meeting the ex if possible. It's going to take a while, like everyone else says, because those things really matter to a girl, especially if she's around my age. I don't find it unreasonable, though.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI feel like I'm losing my mind :(
I'm so thankful that everyone here knows what it's like, because I totally understand your feeling.

Even though we just started our K-1, we have been in a LDR for about a year, and it's just draining.

When he left, I changed. I became glued to the computer so I could talk to him on skype. When I was out with friends or family, my mind wasn't really all there. People began avoiding me because I was a very negative and spacey person. I used to be fun, bubbly, and happy all the time. It depressed me that when I was waking up, he was already going to bed, because we're exactly 12 hours apart. I cried almost everyday, and I would get angry at him very easily. I also lost 15 pounds. And I only weighed 105 before.

When I went to Thailand and we got engaged, those three months I became regenerated and I felt like myself FINALLY again. And at that time, I promised myself to never be like that again when we part.

We were so emotionally connected when I had to leave and I was walking to my gate at the airport and he was smiling and waving. I cried the whole 36 hours that I was traveling back to the US. I think the other passengers thought I was mental.

But when I got back, I remembered my promise. You have to be positive. It doesn't do anything to be sad, or paranoid. I know it's extremely hard.

Think about it how painful it is to put yourself through the pain and decided to change it. You can feel happy at any time you want. I read that from Anthony Robbins. It really helped reading his book "Awaken the Giant"

You're almost there! And also to everyone who feels these emotions, just know that you're not alone, and it will be over soon! We can support eachother. :D
