PhilippinesIs Friend's Fiancee Scamming Him? How to convince him?

Most likely that is for a 22 hour or more travel time, going to LAX first, or having more than one layover. He wanted to pay extra to keep it in Japan and only 16 hours long.

Yep. I found a four-hr lay-over in LAX and then onto PDX for $1218. That's not bad, I think a 4-hr layover is reasonable. And then he'd have $500 saved toward his mega-Vegas wedding.

PhilippinesIs Friend's Fiancee Scamming Him? How to convince him?

Yeah, sounds like he booked her in business class - somehow, that's appropriate.

For sure. I just ran a search on CheapoAir, one-way from MNL to PDX for Friday (tomorrow) and the cost was $1146.

I've always heard that men are the pedal and women are the brakes...

I really don't think that's true in most cases.
I think there is an even distribution on who initiates the break-up.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsUSCIS Web-site
Decision:
During this step the formal decision (approved/denied) is written and the decision notice is mailed and/or emailed to the applicant/petitioner. You can use our current processing time to gauge when you can expect to receive a final decision.

Testing and Interview:
If your case status indicates that you are currently in this step, you have either been scheduled for an interview or are in line to be scheduled for an interview. The amount of time your application will remain in this step will vary by office and is largely determined by the number of cases ahead of yours. The interview notice will have specifics about time, location and anything you will need to bring to your interview. If your application remains pending beyond our normal processing times (as shown below) please contact our national customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Please note that not every application/applicant will require an interview. In some instances, an interview is required by regulation and others an interview is requested because USCIS has determined that this is the most efficient means to determine eligibility. For a naturalization application the interview will include your taking the required English and/or Civics tests (unless exempt or waived).

PhilippinesK1 interview location
I believe that Cebu USED to be a point for interviews, a filipina living in York that I know had her interview there, but that was more than four years ago. I'm pretty sure all interviews are conducted at the USE in Manila now. As I understand it, the Cebu facility offers only "limited" services as it is only a consular agency and not a full-blown embassy.

PhilippinesI know, I know .. but I did it anyways ..

About the civil surgeon's vaccination supplement, are there any vaccinations that Ashley may have to take in a series once she is here

That shouldn't be the case. Coming through Manila and St. Luke's, assuming she had all the vaccinations offered in the Phil., she should only need ONE shot.
BJZagsMalePhilippines2007-06-28 17:02:00
PhilippinesTime to arrive at the embassy
In my opinion, showing up at 3:30 or even 5:30 for the 7:30 interview is bunk. Starting at around 7:00 I believe they will call for all in the 7:30 time-slots to go forward into the embassy for their interview ordeal. If the security guards only allow people through the gates based upon their interview time, it seems stupid to be there too early. My gal had a 7:30 interview, and arrived at the embassy at 6:45 (even later, knowing her).

PhilippinesEvidence of having met within the last 2 yrs
Two different things going on here: proof of meeting in person, AND proof of on-going relationship.

When you file the I-129F petition on her behalf with the USCIS, it is the first that you need: proof of MEETING IN PERSON. This is where you need the plane tickets, hotel receipts, photos.

THEN, at the embassy stage when she goes for her interview at the embassy to have the visa issued, it is the second that you need: proof of ONGOING RELATIONSHIP. This is where the chat-logs, eMails, phone-card, etc. come into play.

PhilippinesHelp me explain something

Ditto part duex!

If your going the K-1 route, NOTHING is traditional, so tell her you'll have an "engagement" party so all the family and friends can come together and bond and feel good about your upcoming marriage in the states. Anything appearing like a ceremony and signing certificates smacks of a marriage and is NOT proper under a K-1 procedure.

PhilippinesPre-nups

Oh but it so *does* matter to me. IMO, asking someone to sign a prenup is a sign of mistrust. To others, that may not be the case and that's fine. Two people who are not compatible on this issue may just not be suited for each other.

Why is it a matter of trust or mis-trust? Why can't it be what it is, a legal document used to protect BOTH parties. After the marriage, we all sign a marriage certificate, and thats a legal document. The couple is no more or less married in their own eyes after the church ceremony but before signing the marriage certificate that will be mailed to the court.

Of course, my opinion on the "properness" and fairness of a pre-nup is assuming that BOTH parties had independent lawyers look over the agreement so that BOTH parties had equal powers in drafting this document before it was signed. What most people forget is that such an agreement while often used to protect the "rich" persons assets, is just as easily used to protect the party with a lessor financial stake.
BJZagsMalePhilippines2007-07-31 09:29:00
PhilippinesPre-nups

I don't think that's an accurate statement. I know plenty of American women, including myself, who would be insulted.

In my opinion, if one party is so insulted by a pre-nup, it is THEY who may have the doubts about the relationship, or may have alterior motives. Assuming the soon-to-be marriage is based upon love, it really doesn't matter what papers are signed beforehand; the marriage will last forever so it will in the end be a moot point.
BJZagsMalePhilippines2007-07-29 21:44:00
PhilippinesPre-nups
I don't understand why this issue is so freaking emotional to many. It must be a cultural thing. In America, this conversation wouldn't phase or insult a girl one bit, it's just smart for both parties to discuss these sorts of things BEFORE marriage. Putting it in writing is simply a logical way of letting both parties know where the other's thoughts are on the matter of money and such. It's an exercise to deal with the one thing that often ends many marriages: disagreements over money.
BJZagsMalePhilippines2007-07-29 19:07:00
Philippinesif petitioner is here for the interview
I really don't think it matters much to the USE whether the petitioner is there sitting in the lobby, or is 9-thousand miles away in Detroit getting drunk at a bar while the interview is happening. Bottom-line, the paperwork must be in order, and have met within 2-years, and that's all they care about. If it settles your fiance's nerves and calms her down so that she is able to answer all the questions in a firm and calm manner that is a bonus, but hardly effects the mechanics of the process. I know of many who have visited their fiancee only one time, and only for a few-days, and the approval happened as a matter of course. The details are in the paperwork. Period.

PhilippinesConfirming your Interview Results

all you have to do is call DOS at(202) 663-1225. Give them your MNL# and they will answer your question.

Maybe. Or, maybe not. I know others (like ourselves) who did not receive any help from DOS. In fact, during the three-week pergatory waiting for visa-release, the DOS wasn't even sure if my wife had in fact showed up for the interview! Seems like every different government agency computer system can say something different.

Must say I have to disagree with that blanket statement. How difficult is it to buy her a ticket home if the relationship hits a "rough patch"? As easy as going to expedia, so I wouldn't say her being back in the RP is going to any real "lengths." In the heat of the moment, couples say things that are stupid and make rash decisions without thinking through the consequences. But, with that being said, the re-application for K1 is definitely going to "some lengths." So, the OP will need to decide if the relationship is really worth the visa journey, part deux.

I can't tell y'all how much I want to be there with my Fiancee during the interview stage. It's just not possible as much as I want. It takes almost every last cent I have to keep supporting us and this process. I wish I were able to currently make more money, but I'm doing the best I can. I'm hoping to find a better job once this is all done, so that I can finally quit working 7 days a week on two jobs. I miss her and do wish I could sit with her as she's interviewed.

I really wouldn't sweat not being with her at the interview too much. If you have both done your research and have her prepped for the interview and the potential questions that may arise, then she should do fine. With only her there, only half the questions to be "answered" and half the chance of screwing-up.

PhilippinesAbortion: Can this be a reason for not getting a visa?
Where the abortion thing gets a bit "sticky" is that this is an illegal act in the RP. Not sure that admission of a crime is a wise course of action.

Six months, sounds about like the wait for an appointment for a VA facility in Denver. Maybe no better, no worse than in America. Sad state of affairs if that is true. So thankful my father had health insurance with subsequent jobs that he never had to rely exclusively on the VA.

Exactly. The only thing that concerns me about this calculation is the cost of healthcare once there. At least in America we'd have some form of insurance to ease the burden. In the RP, you gotta pay cash for everything, and often the medicine is MORE expensive than in the US. I could see healthcare eating-up whatever cost-of-living savings there are.

This is why it is so difficult to know exactly what to do. For every account like yours, there is another account that states the CO did not allow the USC into the interview room.

Going to the USEM might help with the visa pick-up thing, but I still doubt whether presence of the USC at the interview helps out any with the actually approval of the visa itself.

Material Misrepresentation is a severe matter.

If answering NO to a question that is designed to flesh out the drug usage of a petetitioner in the last three years (when in fact the usage happened well before that three year period) is a "material misrepresentation" than you are correct. These sorts of questions need to be answered in light of the law or administrative code behind their drafting. With that being said, hopefully the OP is NOT wasting his time reading this nonsense, but is calling a qualified immigration attorney who can formulate a plan of attack on how to best proceed.

I'm not sure "just saying NO" rises to the level of "condoning or instruction . . . others on how to commit fraudulent or illegal immigration activities. . . " Especially in the context of this entire thead.

This is the one that really floored my wife. I had to say yes, lots of old people work for the medical insurance, or they are greeters at Wall Mart because there is no extended family to take care of them when they get old, or really shocking, they really like the work they are doing and they can't imagine retiring and playing golf.

We met thru Filipina Heart in December 2006. April of 2007 I took my first trip over to see her, never expecting that she'd be the girl in person that I had built-up in my mind. Turns out she was an ever better person in-person! The rest they say is history.

My wife's used to last sometimes a couple-days, tops, but that was early in the relationship when I used to let it "get to me." Now that I've accepted it (translated: I ignore it) she has discovered she doesn't have the power of tamp over me anymore! Those episodes thankfully have been eliminated as our relationship has grown. We've both grown-up and learned to talk, rather then her doing tampo and me instantly being ticked-off.
