United KingdomLondon Embassy: time between medical and interview?
QUOTE (Mia Clakre @ Apr 14 2008, 03:16 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi Everyone,

I am waiting to have my K1 interview at the London embassy. I had my medical exam last Tuesday (very straightforward with no hassles, just a couple of jabs) and am waiting to hear when my interview will be. I was just wondering whether any other Britain based people have recently gone through this, and how long it took between the medical and interview date, or even just being informed of the interview date?

Also, would anyone advise trying to call the embassy to confirm that they received Packet 3 and everything they need, just in case?

Thanks!

we sent back packet 3 on April 3rd and it was received April 4th and signed for.. I called April 8th and they had already scheduled the interview for May 2nd. and we received Packet 4 on April 9th. everything happened so quickly. I would say call the DOS or have your fiance call from America because calling the Embassy costs tons...

DOS - 202-663-1225 just need your case number (LND)

Am I right in thinking that the only form I sign is the DS 230 part 1?

And then I just send back two unsigned copies of the DS-156 and DS-156k

That is all I send them along with my checklist, right?

yeah thats right.. My fiance was confused which ones to sign and not sign so he made extra copies to take to the interview just in case he signed the wrong ones. Best of luck getting a quick interview date!!

Congrats you two!!

And yes, the notarized letter of intent is required when the NOA2 has expired, i.e. 4 months from approval date. Otherwise they don't even typically asked for a renewed letter of intent.

Relax, people! Deep breaths!!

Congrats Nicky!!!!

and thanks for clearing that up! I got very scared! Interview is Friday!

Even if you need it notarized it's not a big deal, as all I have to do is send a new one to Nicky who then sends it with his passport to the embassy. The only thing that sucks is the cost of sending the document international express...but that is relatively a small price to pay in the whole scheme of things.

very true just trying not to worry too much.

I just went through this... I picked UK citizen just visiting the US.. On continental it says its optional so i don't see it as a big deal. and since a K-1 is a non-immigrant visa your still a UK citizen and not a permanent resident. that's just my thought.

QUOTE (Stuart.Morrison @ May 6 2008, 02:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I am currently compiling all the paperwork necessary for the K1 visa application. I am in Scotland and my fiance is in Denver.

Can anyone give me an idea of what is required in the friends/family affidavit letters of support or perhaps a copy of a letter?

How do you get these letters "notorised" and roughly what is the cost of notorisation.

All help appreciated,

Regards Stuart

you don't need the letters from your family/friends notarized... only thing you need notarized is the I-134 but thats for your interview. I didn't even send support letters from my family. just sent letter of intent from me and my fiance.

in the US its easy to get things notarized and it costs about $5. There I am unsure tho.

best of luck to you

United KingdomInterview Questions for K1-Visa
Paper work for the interview from the USC would include...

Notarized I-134
Bank Statement - Current and Yearly
Paycheck stubs - I sent him 2 of the most current months
3 years Tax returns
Letter from your employee stating your salary and position

you also need relationship proof
emails, chat/call logs, phone bills, letters, pictures, boarding pass/plane ticket stubs....

United KingdomInterview Questions for K1-Visa
Well I live on the East coast but where the USC is doesn't matter it's where the foreign fiance is from that makes the difference. My fiance is from England and he just had his interview in London on May 2nd. He said it was very easy. they asked him 4 questions. "Where did we meet? When did we start talking? What are my interests?" I forget the last one but it was simple. If you have a real relationship then you really have nothing to worry about because most the questions London asks are about your relationship.

all you as the USC has to do is get the paperwork together. You will not have to go to an interview so shouldn't be worrying so much.

United Kingdomflights to US. single or return??
oh also.. buying your ticket on a weekday for a weekday is the cheapest time you can buy and exactly 2 weeks before you fly is pretty cheap too most the time.. but you have to be willing to take a chance and wait to buy your ticket.

oh right. m final destination is minnesota, so il probably have to stop somewhere. my friend was in minneapolis last summer and got a direct flight from gtwick to minneapols. il keep looking.

thanks guys

you could try to get your stop to be in JFK and make it worth wild. cause that way you'll probaby get the temp ead.. found 1 for 900 from heathrow to jfk to minneapolis.

United Kingdomflights to US. single or return??
sidestep.com is quite good buy i find going through the airlines themselves is cheaper.. I got Damian's ticket for $580 from continental. used a coupon code that saved me like $9 big deal really. just was happy cause I only had $600 to spend... and his flight is Heathrow to Newark direct. we decided that we weren't worried about going to JFK for the temp EAD even tho JFK isn't that far from Newark we wanted to keep it simple and keep it the same as its always been... always use heathrow and newark for the passed 2 years.

i find the cheapest to be... Virgin Atlantic and British Air

We always used those 2 only reason we changed to continental was cause it was the same price and they had better flight times.

United Kingdomflights to US. single or return??
I just bought Damian's ticket.. 1st off Return is half the price of one way! so I bought a return not even worrying about the return date just trying to get the cheapest ticket I can. I really don't think it matters. i doubt you'll even be asked about it at POE.

United KingdomAffidavit of Support Question
I don't think it's that big of a deal like you said its not going to count really. They'll be more interested in the co-sponsor and your self sponsoring. I had a co-sponsor and they just put my I-134 aside and looked over my co-sponsor.

you have to have had the jabs within the last 5 years so you'll be fine to get them done at your GP. depending on your age theres only 3 needed. Tdap, Pollio, and MMR.

I haven't heard this before... were you told that at Knightsbridge? I'm only curious as I'm thinking about all the people who had jabs when they were kids, and then can bring a vaccination booklet that proves that to the medical. It also isn't mentioned on the website either, nor were we told that last year. Has this changed?

I'm not sure if anything changed but thats what Damian was told when he called to book his appointment.

yeah if you're up for a risk the tickets are usually cheaper if you buy them real close to the time you're going. exactly 2 weeks before you go seems to be cheaper too.

that's exactly what we did.. gave up JFK and went for Continental. got his flight for $580 .. but I think he's only allowed 1 checked bag! but it's only $25 for a second!

I always flew with BA.. almost every time the plane was quite empty and i got to sit where ever I liked and even lay across the 3 seats. then our last BA plane we booked got canceled and their call line was closed so we had no way to find out what to do.. they were nice enough to put us on Virgin.. then BA started to have strikes so we switched to Virgin since then but the last Virgin flight I took wasn't near as nice as BA. both going and coming home were about 2 hours delayed! annoying.. probably going back to BA for his last flight home but trying to avoid heathrow because they're losing tons of baggage these days and travelers insurance doesn't cover it any more!

returns are cheaper. theres no point in getting one way even if you dont use the other ticket your saving.. also sidestep.com is another good 1.. I found a flight from heathrow to jfk or newark for $600 return.

Just a quick question to add, when you guys are talking about a letter from the employer, what kind of letter do you need? What if you have a cosponsor? I have read a few other posts where something wasn't signed or was forgotten and I want to make sure that I get everything Mark needs to him. Also when they say original documents, does that mean I have to put my actual birth certificate in there? I have seen a post that had a list of things needed but I wasn't sure about a few of them like the letter from the employer.

If you have a co-sponsor then only the co-sponsor need the employment evidence (3 years tax returns, paycheck stubs, letter from the employer, bank statements) and the co-sponsor also needs a separate notarized I-134

you as the sponsor(with a co-sponsor) just need the notarized I-134

the letter from the employer should be on the company's letterhead and consist of position at the job, salary, and length of time you been there.

original documents should be taken to the interview with a copy. they will examine the original and return them and keep the copies.

United KingdomTax Returns and I-134F
I only sent tax returns and i didn't have them notarized. I wasn't worried about it either. just so you have bank statement, letter from employer, and paycheck stubs you'll be fine. also since your not planning on moving right away if they need the transcripts you can send them in when they come and you'll still get your visa in plenty of time.

at Damian's interview they only asked for paycheck stubs and the co-sponsors notarized I-134.

if you have everything else in order. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Best of luck to you!!

you shouldn't have any problem booking a medical. When Damian booked his medical he wanted it a month from when he was calling and they were trying to give him the next week from when he was calling. so you could call a week ahead of time and be fine but thats a bit risky. but calling a month ahead should work well for you. best of luck to you!
