they told him anyone could collect it with his ID but he nor anyone else will be home tomorrow so when they arrive the house will be empty.. will they attempt to deliver it the following day? or is it worth him taking off work to stay home and collect it?

I have a question..

Damian got the text today saying his visa will be delivered tomorrow. I am wondering what time other's visas were delivered and what happens to it if he's not home to collect it?

it says so many times not to buy a plane ticket. but I seem to think that having a travel date gets you a quicker interview date. is this true? and do they frown on already bought plane tickets? We just got packet 3 and are sending it back tomorrow an am debating weather or not to put a anticipated travel date in.

Damian has a lot of downloaded movies so he doesn't need any problems with customs on these. and the digital camera photos we have all backed up already. he's backing up some of his programs and other files he might want to keep. he usually just sends them royal mail. we've never had a problem before and we aren't in a hurry getting them here and royal mail is a lot cheaper.

Hmm yeah, I've got anime that I'd prefer to bring over but would probably be frowned upon by the powers that be. If you just bung them over via Royal Mail and say "CDs" on the customs sticker, that'd be enough for them to slip through the net?

Stu

We haven't ever had a problem with customs and sending anything with royal mail... We even sent pocket knives that are illegal here in the US.. so I wouldn't worry too much about mailing. just put cds. you should be just fine.. Damian will be sending his out sometime in the next 2 weeks so i'll let you know how it goes.

I'd do that, but are customs likely to inspect cds (or dvds... I've got an awful lot of digital camera pics) when you mail them over with DHL or similar?

I don't think many people's checked luggage is even gone through. we're just doing it to be safe. if its just pictures you'll have no problem with them on cd/dvd.

I've had an awful time with customs in England!! they went through every belonging I had and even my scrapbook and photo albums. read letters...... and if it turns out to be anything like that they will check cds/dvds.. but thats England and thats why we're being safe.

I heard about the laptop checks... Damian is backing everything up on cd and sending it to me then totally reformatting his laptop so its cleared out. rather them not go through all of our pictures. they already know tons about us and our personal life.

United KingdomDoes it have to be the visa recipient who signs for visa from courier?
I made my now hubby call in sick so he could stay home and wait for it. His luck it came before he even had to be at work so he had a whole day to just sleep! We didn't even pay for early delivery and it came around 7am.

United KingdomSuperbowl
When I met my hubby online a few years ago, he was a steelers fan. So He was loving the American sports before loving an american. Just so happens I'm from Pennsylvania and also a steelers fan. As for baseball, He hated it at first and now surprisingly he's a fan, We're going to a game this May, and we went to a steelers game Sept 2006.

Now as for Cricket, I just can't get into it. It's quite confusing. Ever since I watched my husband play and they tried to teach me how to score, went way over my head.

United Kingdomtransfering money to America and temp health insurance.
When my husband moved here, he opened an account with Nationwide building society. They claim no fees to withdraw money any where other then if the machine itself charges.. and it stands true. He still has money in the account and we're waiting for the exchange rate to go up to withdraw it. But he hasn't been charged at all to withdraw the money here in America. It's an easy way for his parents/family to send bday money and xmas money. as for sending money to England it's harder.

The travel insurance is pricey but there are ones that will cover you under a K-1. I found one for Damian not too long ago because he wanted to play soccer. and I wrote to the company and explained the situation and they told me he was covered. I can't remember the company tho, sorry.

United KingdomBaseball Anyone?
I grew up a Phillies fan all my life, but stopped watching for the last few years, in the hectic time of traveling back and forth from England to be with my husband. But with the Phillies winning last year, I got back into it and Damian also got into it. My dad spent some time teaching him all about it and now we're off to see the Phillies play the Mets next Friday in Philly. Really looking forward to it! Even tho the Phillies don't look great already this year, but hoping things start looking up.

United Kingdompacket 3 checklist.
I think they hold off and try to give you an interview date near the wedding/travel date.. well I believe so at least.. we left ours blank and someone who put a interview date and sent their checklist the same day got a date 18 days after us and closer to their travel date. Leaving the travel date blank sometimes seems to pay off.

United KingdomPlan B anyone? (K1)
If things went differently and Damian was denied, I'd pick up and move to England in a heart beat! We're planning on moving to England in a few years once we're done with US immigration. So we probably would have gone the other way and came to America later in life. But our goal is to live in Europe in the future so we figured we'd start out in the US. Even tho Damian is still wishing we were in England, Missing home and getting bored being settled down, seeing as we were flying back and forth every 3 months for the 2 years before getting married, and it's almost been a year settled down here in the US.

But I don't think you 2 have anything to worry about, but it's a conversation unavoidable before the interview.
