US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPaying Visa Fee at the embassy?
QUOTE (k & o @ Apr 26 2008, 03:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Ok, I did some searching, and either do not understand the answer or can't find it. I read reports of interview process, that the fiance(e) has to pay for the visa fee at a "window" before the interview (or after). But the amount isn't mentioned. Can someone tell me what it typically is?

The way it sounds: taking out a few bills to pay; but I read somewhere else it costs $400?? That's on top of the $455 I-129F fee at initial filing?? I know it takes money and time, but would be "worth it" in the end, but still a shocker if that is the case...

Thanks for your answers/guidance.

I believe the K-1 Visa costs $131 but I maybe wrong

What have been recent experiences with return of passport with Visa after the interview from US Embassy in London?

Thanks!

Interview is on Tuesday, May 13th and our return tickets are for May 18th - hoping that leaves enough time.

its said to take 3-7 days

QUOTE (phub11 @ May 4 2008, 03:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi,

I mailed my 2007 1040-EZ at the beginning of April but it hasn't cleared yet.

My question - if my taxes haven't been processed before the interview, will I have to prove that I have filed? The only thing I have to prove it at the moment is a copy of my 1040-EZ (I don't owe Uncle Sam any taxes).

Thanks for any suggestions.

don't worry too much.. just take your tax returns and copies of your w-2. thats all your gonna need. my fiance just had his interview in london and they didn't even ask for them. just pay check stubs. but all you need is 3 years tax returns. dont worry about the IRS they just want to make sure you can support you fiance.

I was under the impression the co-sponsor has also got to fill in the affadavit of support. Is just the petitioner that needs to fill the I-134?

both the petitioner and the co-sponsor have to fill out separate I-134 and get them both notarized.

you both (you and your co-sponsor) have to fill one out and get them both notarized but you will only need the evidence from your co-sponsor (paycheck stubs, bank statements, letter from employer, 3 year tax returns.)

My fiances parents will be the co-sponsors for the K1.

Will it matter if they get it notarised and dated now? As we havent even had our NO1 yet, im worried it may be a little to early. Reason is that they are heading out of the country for the summer and wont be back in the US for a while.

Also there is a question in the affadavit asking what is your relationship to the beneficiary? There not sure what to put down as i aint married to there daughter yet.

Thanks

It's said the closer the better but theres nothing you can do if they're gone when you need it so i guess its best to get it now? I'm not sure what to tell ya there but as for the beneficiary question.. my dad was our co-sponsor and he put future son-in-law in the relationship spot and London had no problem with that

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview on May 30th
My fiance's interview in London was at the beginning of the month.. he said it's very simple just a lot of waiting. They asked him 4 questions.. "When did we start talking?" "what my interests are?" "When did we meet?" I forget the last one but really if your relationship is true you'll have no problems what so ever with the questions. I heard a popular question from London is "Why the US and not the UK?"

My Fiance bought a big envelope with dividers and just separated his paperwork into sections. He also has a copy of all the originals (birth certificate, Police certificate, passport...)

I don't think you have to dress up for the interview but my fiance did. He wore a suit.

also London seem to be more worried about sponsor evidence then relationship evidence but its good to have tons just in case.

and a note to add don't forget or lose the appointment letter it's the only way into the building.

Best of luck with the interview!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 3 - Date of travel/date of wedding
We left it blank and got an interview date for less than a month from when we sent packet 3. but ours seems to be out of the ordinary. I know that the few people that sent packet 3 back around the same time as us got interview dates for about 6 weeks later. so ours was a lucky case but London does respect travel and wedding dates.

best of luck getting a quick interview date!

QUOTE (Lynda and Keith @ Jul 14 2008, 05:48 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello all, as we near our approval ( hopefully... going by uscis website ) I was wondering what fees should Keith be aware of at the Embassy ( London ) part of the process, medical, document fees, etc , and what forms of payment are excepted?

Thanks Everyone,
** fingers crossed **
Lynda

Medical is 180GBP plus any vaccinations - http://www.visamedic...fo/us-price.asp - believe that's paid in pounds.

Police Certificate - 35GBP

the visa fee is $131 .. that's payable in pounds or dollars.

then there's the shipping fee of the visa.. standard is 14GBP.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAny UK filers- what did the embassy request from you?
Nothing gets sent back to Vermont... you are now done with Vermont for the time being. The only forms that get sent back (to London) are the completed checklist once you have all the required forms and the DS forms that are asked for (DS230part1, DS156, DS156K...).

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPacket 3 forms questions
QUOTE (Britlover @ Jun 20 2008, 04:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Now that our file has been put in the mail to the London embassy we are getting all of the required forms ready so that she can send them as soon as packet 3 arrives. I have three questions about the forms that hopefully some of you who have gone through the process can answer.

First question- The DS-156K form states that several documents (birth certificates, marriage certificates, police certificates, etc.) must be submitted with the application. But the IV-15 checklist says to gather the forms & NOT send them to the embassy. Should these documents be sent with the packet 3 forms? huh.gif The documents shouldn't be sent to the embassy. they should just be taken to the interview with you.

Second question- The IV-15 asks for marriage certificates & divorce decrees for previous marriages. Does this only apply to the beneficiary, or is it for the petitioner as well? sad.gif I'm not sure. I'd think its just for the beneficiary because the petitioner had to send theirs in with the I-129F

Third question- Should she send the completed (but unsigned) DS-230I Part II form to the embassy with the packet 3 forms, or just bring it with her to the interview? wacko.gif all the forms are sent to the embassy just the documents are taken to the interview

I'm sure these questions have been answered before but I searched & couldn't find the info. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I'm unsure if it's going to cause a problem but we made a little mistake on one of our forms we sent back in packet 3 so we just took copies of those forms with it corrected on it just in case. but they didn't even catch the mistake we made so it was no big deal.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCosts associated with interview/medical
As far as I remember the medical was 180GBPs, but that was just the medical, if he needs other vaccinations, each one costs but he can get them done at his family doctor for free as far as I remember.

As for the visa, it's $131USD and 14GBPs for the courier fee.

Then you need things like the Police certificate which was 35GBPs.

Damian&KellyFemaleEngland2009-08-21 20:48:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLondon Forms
you send DS-230 Form Part I, Form DS-156, and Form DS-157 for each person and the Form DS-156-K (completed by the principal applicant only) right away and the checklist when your ready for the interview. and you take everything else with you to the interview.

I forget which papers are in duplicate and which ones are signed and not signed but you don't send any documents with them just the forms themselves. if your ready for the interview right away you can send the checklist right with the forms.

The I-134 and supporting documents
the birth certificate and police certificate
and all other supporting documents get taken to the interview.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionFinal Check Need Your Opinions Please
Looks good, I don't think you need any more proof of relationship as I've never seen London ask for it, not once. But best be on the safe side as you are.

As for the I-134, I don't think you have to worry about her I-134 and proof, I didn't make a enough so my father co-sponsored my husband. They didn't even look at my I-134 and took my dads along with his tax transcript, pay stubs and copy of his birth certificate.

I'd also make a copy of all the original things and bring them along just in case they want to keep anything. I know they already ask for a copy of some things but it's nice to have it especially when it comes to AOS time, things like the medical sheet come in handy.

Best of luck to you both!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical and Self Harm
The smoking question is no big deal at all, seeing as my husband is a full time smoker and answered truthfully and had no problems at all.

As for the self harm, I wouldn't ever lie, but if you didn't have treatment, they have no proof that you self harmed at all. Unless they see the scars and question it. Honesty is the best policy tho, I've seen a few people have to go to further doctors after the medical to double check they won't self harm again.

I wish you the best of luck!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat to include with I-134
Also, though you probably don't want to think about it now, All the documents you need for the I-134 will work well for the I-864 when it comes time for AOS. I sent the same things with my I-864 just got updated letters and pay check stubs and had no problems at all. (even left out the letter from employer) Just thought I'd give the heads up because honestly I wish I looked into the AOS process while doing the K-1 because it would have saved me some time.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat to include with I-134
London is by far more worried about the I-134 and supporting documents then the supporting documents of your ongoing relationship.

And also are more worried about the co-sponsor(when needed) then the sponsor(petitioner). They asked my husband for my I-134 then when told we had a co-sponsor just put mine aside, didn't even read through it and asked for our co-sponsor's I-134 (my dad). They also asked for the most recent tax return, 3 pay check stubs, and a letter from his employer. My husband also had 2 more years of tax returns, bank statement, and birth certificate all from my dad. I didn't have a job so didn't supply any other documents with my I-134 besides my birth certificate. As for Question 10 or 11: On my I-134 I put I do not intend, because I couldn't support my husband at the time and my dad put I do intent and then put room and board and necessities. London won't except the I-134 with i do not intend on the main sponsor's.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussiongettin ready for i134 and interview
You will need the I-134 for both you and your mother (co-sponsor)
Along with 3 years tax returns (W2s)
Letter from employer: stating what position, how long and salary
Pay check stubs
Bank statement
And also Birth certificate or passport to prove US citizenship
No payment is needed with the I-134.. The visa costs $131 at the interview.

You will also need
Proof of Relationship: Pictures, Passport stamps, Ticket stubs, etc..

An updated letter of intent from both of you.

Following his return to the UK:
He will need to get a police certificate : costs about 35GBP and takes about 2 weeks
He'll have to book a medical and get all his vaccinations
He will have to complete packet 3 and return DS forms right away and checklist when he's ready for an interview.

I wish you the best of luck!

My father co-sponsored for us. On my I-134, I ticked do not intend and wrote that I'd support my husband once I found a job and on my father's I-134, He ticked I intend and wrote that he'd supply shelter and necessities for as long as needed. They were happy to see I intend ticked.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAnyone unemployed got visa?
I was unemployed when my husband had his interview. I actually never held a job at that point. My dad co-sponsored for us and we had no problem at all. They didn't even read over my I-134. They just put it aside and looked at my dad's. They asked for his pay check stubs and Tax transcripts. And all was good. London is only worried about the I-134 and sponsorship. And co-sponsor is good enough for them.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Co-sponsor can't provide employer letter
London didn't ask for our co-sponsor's letter from employer. I know every case is different but we provided:

2 month's of recent paycheck stubs
3 year's tax returns/transcripts
bank statement
letter from employer
and the co-sponsor's birth certificate

They only asked for the paycheck stubs and tax returns. I know you want to be on the safe side so get what you can. A letter from the employer explaining the reasoning? or if that's not possible maybe a letter from him explaining. My co-sponsor's letter was very very brief anyways, it didn't say how much he made just that he's been a full time employer there for x amount of years because his employer wouldn't put salary.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionlondon embassy interview
London rarely asks for relationship evidence. They're more so concerned about the I-134. My husband took so many pictures, emails, cards, ticket stubs, engagement ring receipt.. and none of it was needed. So I don't think you have anything to worry about. We had nothing planned for a wedding at the time of the interview. We didn't have a date or an idea of how exactly we'd be married, we just knew we'd be married within 90 days. We didn't have wedding bands picked or bought yet.

We actually planned to do the same thing, but after the court house ceremony, both my parents (divorced) had huge parties for us. So we decided not to have a big wedding, the court house wedding was perfect for us and suited our personalities. We're thinking of renewing our vows for our 5 year anniversary and have a ceremony for that.

But as for London, you shouldn't have any problems with this.

Also, what happens if my passport expires while I am still overseas?
Will I be able to go to a US embassy abroad and get a document or something I can travel back to the US on with my expired passport ?

Anyone with any experience ?
