I see it as the packet had to be put together when you sent the checklist back saying you had all the paper work. so it should be their fault it took so long to get the interview. i wasn't worried about it. maybe i should have worried about it but the pay check stubs from a month before worked fine for us. they did ask for paycheck stubs but didn't comment on how old they were. so what he has should be fine.

Damian's interview was friday and his visa is due to be delivered tomorrow.

I find that buying tickets exactly 2 weeks before can be quite cheap. but thats a risky thing to do. we waited until he was approved to buy his ticket. but we decided not to wait for his visa in hand.

Saturday I flew into Abbotsford and I am fortunate that I have family in Langley just outside of vancouver. So Monday at 10am my anutie drove me to my interview. We parked right accross the street at 1050 West Pender St. it cost me $18.00 for 2 hours. Went to the consulate for my 1pm interview and was to early they told me to come back in 15 min. Security Checkpoints- They go thru everything twice and make sure you don't bring any sealed evelopes. They did allow me to bring in my purse as long as they are not big. The last security check point they gave me a list as to the order to prepare my paperwork. Then while waiting in the waiting room for 15 minutes just enough time to get the paperwork in order for the lady at the booth. She was extreamly pleaseant! Then you sit in and wait for another 15minutes and they do electronic finger prints. Then you sit and wait for about 10-15minutes and they call you up to the booth and that is where they interview you. They asked me a bunch of questions about 10-12 to be exact. Then they told me to sit again.....Then I was called up to another booth where the first lady I saw told me I was APPROVED! YEAHHHHHHH! I am to go back tommorow at 2pm but i suggest you go early as when I left there was a line up of about 50 people there to pick up there visas. Don't be nervous it is a breeze and it is very exciting.

It's because penn was at vancouver.... i think cash is fine for mtl.

where is it written that the tax return need to be notarized ??
what about if i have no tax return but a bunch of other stuff proving he makes above poverty line anyway + list of assets ?

Actually i do have the last 2 yrs taxes returns printed from like turbo taxes or something. will it be enough ?
[/quo

I gave them 2 years of tax returns and W2's and that was enough for me. I will have to check where I found that the taxes had to be notarized. I will let you know.

You won't need the DS-230 part2. I took mine and they didn't want it. Also you should get his tax returns notarized to. Don't forget your duplicate of one of the DS-156 or maybe it is the DS-156K. Anyhow one of those needs to be in duplicate. I think it is the one with the bar code. Don't forget to bring your 2 payment slip for $131 that you had to pay at the scotia bank.

It's the DS156 that needs two copies of. Already sent that in with package 3 (it was requested)

Thanks for the other tips, I already filled out DS-230 part 2 so I'll take it just in case wink.gif

The cheque needs to be from Scotia Bank? Can't I just pay cash?

I don't know if you can pay cash. It is on the vancouver website that you have to go to the scotia bank and pay with cash in advance to your interview. Then you bring the 2 deposit slips that comfirm your payment at the bank. You can download them off the website.

I'm pretty sure you can only pick it up during a specific block of time. I remember David and Amber going at like 2:45 and being too late and having to stay an extra day.

lol yeah.. we got to the consulate at 2:50 and the security guy was like "sorry, the lady leaves at 2:45, come back tomorrow" so i gave him attitude etc and went back to the hotel and re-checked in...the next morning i received a call from the chinese man who took all my initial paper work before the interview and asked why i didnt show up to pick up my visa and i told him they wouldnt let us up etc etc... he was like "you should have told him you were here to pick up a K visa" i was like "oh......... we just said we wanted to pick up our visa and he didnt let us up."

so the lesson is, always say you're here for a K visa or else they will be dicks to you.

Hello Everyone,

I am leaving to the US in 3 1/2 weeks and I want to ensure I have all my ducks in a row. When bringing a pet accross the boarder what do you need? I think you just have to have to ensure that they have all there vacinations and a health cerficate from the vet. Is this right.

My POE at the Edmonton airport was quick and painless. There was no line at Customs- my flight was first thing in the morning.

When I got to the kiosk, I told the customs officer I needed to activate my K3- he took all my stuff and said "this is a good day for you." and brought me to the back- I was handed the I 94 to fill out but when I was called up about 10 minutes later- he already had one filled out for me. He reminded me about filing for AOS once I got to the US and off I went.

I hope my afternoon flight (2:00pm) won't cause me problems. It might be busy at that time, I guess I will see. Thanks everyone!

I have a couple questions about moving day.

1. I have small kids so we are thinking about just flying down when the K-1 is approved, What can I take with me on the plane in suitecases and what not, ex Toys, clothes etc...I know I can check two bags per person with a ticket is it ok to pack a suitecase of childrens toys ?

Be carefull with this part as most airlines now only allow 1 checked bag per person. I know as I just flew for my POE and I had to pay extra for my bags. The airlines are doing this to recoup there costs from the fuel prices.

Well we made it into the US. The POE was a breeze but there was a bit of a line up. I flew out June28 and my dog was good to go, i was worried cause he had kennel cough. I left for the airport at about 11:00 am as my flight was leaving at 2pm. I got to the US customs official and he took me to the immagration waiting room there were 3 people, and a family of 3 ahead of me and there were having some computer issues but in total it took me about 45 minutes to go thur. The lady called me up asked a couple of questions and I was on my way. I ask and no we are not allowed to work until we get our EAD and also you can not cross the boarder again. I had a connection in Minniapolas and we were delayed for awhile. It was hard as my anticipation was building up to be in my new home with my soon to be husband and step daughter. I finally arrived in the Harrisburg, PA airport (final destination) and I was greeted by my fiancee and his kid and a sign saying " Welcome to America"! Flags and all! It was so sweet.......Wow I can't believe I am here.

That scares me! Because at her mothers she tries to be a friend instead of a parent. So inturn the daughter gets do what she wants and when she wants. At our house we are a little on the strict side. She is the one that is teaching her so many wrong things.
1) She dresses her in skimpy things-You hope there won't be problems with the wrong kind of attention
2) She lives with and has a baby with a married man
3) She takes advantage of the welfare system- She is very capable of working but chooses not to.
4) She just had her plate taken away for 3 months for not having insurance
5) She has so many people help her so why can't I help him.
6) Boyfriend has temper and punches holes in wall
7) boyfriend cheats on her but I guess is already cheating on his wife

I don't have a problem with her but look at all the things she is teaching her daughter. Yes I know that she can do what she wants on her week and I guess as long as it doesn't put harm to the child it is fine. Boy this is so frustrating!

I was thinking the same thing as Jomo's Girl- do they have a custody arrangement?

Mel's ex was a bit nasty at first- if she phoned she would just snap "let me talk to Mel" if he wasn't here she would just hang up on me. I never had to deal with her in person- pick ups and drop off were always done via the daycare he was going to, so it was quite a while before I actually met her.

Now I think she is quite nice. My stepson is in school now so I often see at school events and if there is a problem or any issues to deal with- we have no problem calling each other. She works nights and if you catch her at a time when she hasn't slept much she can be snappy- but I can't blame her for that.

We do have a court order that was from 9 years ago. It it is for shared custody on a weekly basis, exchange taking place on Friday, at 5pm which is when our week starts.

Sounds like you are in the "transition" stage.. I've been here 1 1/2 yrs and am just feeling (last 4-5 months) like I'm getting accepted by my hubby's ex. The very first conversation I had with her went something like this - 20 min of ranting by her (most of which she's apologized for) and then I said "look.. you & hubby are the parents - I'm not the parent of these two kiddos, that's something that I will never get in the way of. I'm not competition, I'm not trying to be a "better mother". They have a great mum already, and I just want to love these kids.. nothing more.. If I can be a positive part of their lives I want to do that. Please don't feel threatened by me, I will support and encourage you both to parent and try to stay out of the way and not stick my oar in where it doesn't belong as much as possible. PERIOD. " I don't think she really believed me that day, but I've worked hard at doing what I said I was going to do, and giving hubby time and space to deal with parenting issues/ money stuff, etc. with her and trying to support her as she deals with the kids 24-7. I try to be as gracious and understanding as i can. I just don't see what good can come of being combative. It's worked in our situation, not saying it would work in everyone's situation, but we're all MUCH better off than when I first moved here to the US. I am extremely grateful for that.

I allready do that but she just hates me! I think this is because her daughter has a better realationship with me than her.

I have a friend who has gone through a similar situation. Unfortunately you don't have any legal rights as the step-parent...however if they have court-ordered visitation then your husband has every right to take this before a judge, and should. If they do not have court-ordered visitation it might be something he wants to think about requesting. The only person your husband's ex is really punishing is the child...and that's stupid. If she doesn't chill very soon I think your husband should definitely contact a lawyer about his rights. Unfortunately if the ex is manipulative enough to be using the child as a bargaining chip like this you have to wonder what she's saying to the child about why she can't visit her dad.

no need to wonder, from personal experience you can assume it's not good. She may say nothing and then tell the child the father called and said he couldn't come today, maybe because he's busy with his new family. Happens to us all the time and I've encouraged my husband to be proactive in talking to the boys directly himself and explaining everything as approrpriate. he hates to get between them and their mom, but sometimes he has to say' why don't you come over, your mom has decided I can't just drop by and talk to you because she's not comfortable with it'...if they question why she's doing it, he says to ask her.

how old is the child in question...explanations need to be age appropriate

She is 11 years old! We went and had a talk with her last night and she was unreasonable. Nothing was resolved. I don't understand why we can't have her over night if it is his week. What he does on his week shouldn't matter? Also she is living with a married man and has a child with him. What kind of example is that? We just want what we are entitled to and what is best for her.
I think she is doing this so that she can taking him to domestics so she can get more child support. It says that child support is based on the where the child sleeps. We do pay support even though we have shared custody. What also makes me mad is she is a very capable working person but chooses to live off the system. She can' t even really support her. Uggg, It's never been a problem until now.I made it very clean that I am not there to replace her as a mother, she has a mom. I never overstep my role! This is so difficult!

You aren't getting the most competent staff. Unless you've had to pay outrageous medical bills because you weren't on Nick's insurance, I wouldn't worry about what could have been.

You can't go back so just go forward. Now you have your number so if you want to start looking for a job or apply, you can! Life is full of this stuff. Think positively!
