K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurescover Letter??

A cover letter isn't a requirement, but a lot of people do it chiefly as a self-reminder of what they're including.

My cover letters grew shorter and shorter through the immigration process.  The one for Citizenship merely said, "Please find appended the original N-400 materials for Mrs. T-B."  This and other reflections are here:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresForgot to make I-129F copy

Hello VJ members! I made copies of everything except the I-129F Form... My fiancee's case has been sent to the Embassy last week, Hopefully she'll get packet 3 soon. I read somewhere on the web that I have to send my fiance a copy of my entire -129f packet... Can I just send her everything but the i-129F form which I didn't make a copy of??? Thanks in advance

The advice of Yodrak and raymaga above is good.  Just make sure that the beneficiary can readily answer questions about anything that you submitted in the I-129F petition package.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDidn't make copy of I-129F before sending it out

The reason for sending a copy of the I-129F petition package to the beneficiary is so that the beneficiary can be familiar with exactly was was included, claimed, stated, etc., and be able to discuss such things in the consular interview.  If this familiarity can be achieved through other means, then that's just as effective.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI didn't make a copy of my I129f petition....

This is the third time (so far) that you've asked this.  See the two now-closed threads for other answers.  As general suggestions, it's better to ask your question just once (so that all replies appear in one place) and to avoid resurrecting ancient threads (which can confuse other readers).

Also, as a gentle reminder to an earlier contributor to this thread:  It's hard to determine "tone" from the written word, so when in doubt, assume the best about other posters.  Consider the difference between feeling assaulted and having a buddy throw his arm around your shoulder -- we gain more when we assume the latter.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSubmitting too much

It's too much for USCIS, which will not care about anything except that which establishes that you've met in person during the last 2 years.

Some of that will be helpful at the consular stage, at the visa interview.  Santo Domingo is not an easy embassy, so select key pieces of the above to include with your I-129F petition (USCIS will pass it along to the embassy).  See the "Embassy Info" and "Reviews: Embassy" (links atop any VJ page) for what people recommend for Santo Domingo.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUS Arrival with K-1 visa, need to know what to expect

Unfortunately my fiancee does not have a license and given the cost and time involved in getting her license in Russia it seemed to make more sense for her to learn here. In the mean time I will set her up with a bus pass so she's not stuck at home when I am at work.

That's a very good plan!  Someone else has had the idea of dropping the new immigrant at a college library or student center in the morning, and picking him/her up after work.  Just thought I'd throw that in.  It sounds like everything will be well because of your thorough thinking, which is enviable.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUS Arrival with K-1 visa, need to know what to expect

Could I ask why having a drivers licence is an important factor?

Thanks

It has nothing to do with the immigration process formally, but it will aid her acclimation once she's here.  Depending on your state's rules, she'd be able to use the foreign driver's license for a period of time.  Mobility, or at least knowing that mobility is available, is important.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUS Arrival with K-1 visa, need to know what to expect

Are there any documents besides her birth certificate that she should bring with her from Russia?

In short, ANY official or personal document that would be expensive or impossible to get from afar.  This is for her life here, beyond the immigration process.  Medical, educational, personal... use your minds expansively to think of everything possible.

She should also do everything possible to procure a driver's license in her country before she leaves, if she doesn't have one.  If she has one, she should renew it for the longest term possible.

With the visa imminent, it's probably too late to renew her passport for the longest term possible, but that's another recommendation for people who have time.

For immigration purposes, she should bring the sealed envelope that the embassy will give her.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIncluding Translation with Proof

The chief reason for "front-loading" the USCIS petition package with "evidence of bona fide relationship" is to help the consular officer make a decision, after USCIS forwards the petition into the consulate's hands.  Lima is not known as a nasty embassy, but I wouldn't monkey around with any Latin/South American consulate.  The front-loading that you describe sounds very reasonable, for your situation.  Be thankful that the eventual consular interview won't occur in the smaller country just to the north.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa Help!!!

If you fulfill USCIS requirements, your I-129F petition will be approved.

If you fulfill the consulate's requirements, the K-1 visa will be granted.

The second stage is often extremely overlooked, to people's chagrin and lasting regret.

Go atop any VJ page, click the links for "Embassy Info" and "Reviews: Embassy," read thoroughly (paying particular attention to the very WORST stories), and prepare accordingly by including necessary or desired materials (to be passed to the consulate) with your petition package.  This is called front-loading.  It's crucial in many instances and not so much in others.

TBoneTXMaleEcuador2013-09-20 23:56:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa Help!!!

The 100 pages of Skype & Facebook correspondence is far too much.  No one at any stage of the process will want to read that much.  Instead, prepare a log of the conversations, and include perhaps half a dozen full conversations that you want the consulate to see.

USCIS will not care about this extra material, but will pass it to the consulate, which will care.

Edit:  Your ages are not an issue.

The processing time is estimated to be 5 months, but it can be somewhat shorter or far, far longer.  Received petitions go into boxes on shelves until their time comes for review.  Much patience is required.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresusing husband/wife it will to deny your fiance' petition?

Surely the half-truths and unduly scaring the OP was challenged and that's exactly what hurts your eyes!

Please stop insulting other members -- someone who wants his opinion to be considered will take care that the visual presentation of the opinion doesn't distract from the message itself.

Also, please stop offering reckless advice and opinions on an issue that you know less about (despite your claim) than do others here. The embassy/consulate phase is not a laughing matter, or one to be dismissed with a figurative wave of the hand or a comment of "you will be fine" or "the consular officer is trained to consider the totality of the evidence and to understand such cultural differences." Nice theory, but very dangerous to rely on in practice.

Consular officers have 100% power over us. First and foremost, and more important than their understanding of cultural differences, they are trained and geared to be suspicious of potential fraud. Even one doubt in their minds can (to them) justify issuing a 221g or refusing the visa outright.

The COs might also have a new Section Chief of the Immigrant Visa Unit who instructs them to refuse visas on the basis of ANY inconsistency in the interviewee's papers or story.

Search the forums and the embassy reviews for K-1 interviewees who were asked by the consul, seemingly casually, "So, what does your husband do..." or "How long have you known your wife?" These are intentional -- and very standard -- attempts to trip up the interviewee. Trust that you do NOT want to risk the outcome.

In dozens of VJ threads over the years, it's been confirmed that fiance/es' referring to themselves in writing as "husband/wife" -- even playfully -- is perhaps the potentially most hazardous act that any couple could undertake when seeking a visa. It is also the most avoidable. Anyone who is doing this should stop it NOW and ensure that no such references are included in ANY papers that go to USCIS or the consulate! Remember that everything that you send to USCIS with the petition goes to the consulate after the petition is approved.

In addition, a great many things happen in Manila that are unique to Manila and do not remotely apply to ANY other consulate. Non-Manila filers who read posts on VJ are cautioned to keep this in mind when tempted to take a Manila filer's information or story as a general truth.

The very greatest danger on VJ is any member who suggests treating the consular stage lightly. The consular stage is not just the interview -- it effectively starts when the I-129F petition is filed, and it does not end until the beneficiary successfully enters the United States with use of the K-1 visa. Only then can we quit holding our breath. If you really "deal with COs on a very regular basis," you would be sounding the loudest alarms of any poster on VJ.
