many consulates do not accept new evidence when you go for your interview. So would you agree it's still best to overload your original packet with evidence, which they are forced to look at?
For the "#######" consulates, definitely. Offhand, one would doubt that Australia sinks to this level (check the Reviews for patterns or individual worst-case reports).

Gary: Both messages understood completely; gracias. The "####### consulate" question meant to refer to those that give HIM or the service center grief. I suspect that a list of those from him would come pretty close to a list that give the applicants grief.

New question, again perhaps out of his immediate area of expertise: What does he recommend when civil surgeons insist on performing full medicals when only the I-693 vaccination section needs to be filled out?

Bedtime, zzz man.

What about the consulates? Consulates do what they do, as I said, some are bastards. They get whatever we get when it is sent on.
The second sentence is a relief to know.
QUOTE
I have to ask for a colleague, Ecuador? Bastards.
Why, thank you, colleague! And, it's good to know that someone besides "all of us" has come up with the correct synonym for Guayaquil, si man.

More questions (a couple of them multipartite) to ask the dude:

1. Does it slow down the processing perceptibly if people front-load their applications in anticipation of dealing with the consulates later? Do his staffers mind this, or they deal with it because "a package is a package"?

2. What percentage of the VSC's workload is dealing with petitions that have been returned from the consulates?

3.a. How exactly does he define "#######" consulate? How specifically do Guayaquil & others qualify, and is the VSC doing anything in particular to make it known, such as reaffirming 99.44% of returned petitions from there?

3.b. Can you get him to come up with a list of the 15 or 20 "most #######" consulates, along with seemingly common reasons that these places return petitions to the VSC? (This is a back-door way of learning tips for front-loading.) It would also be helpful if he could offer a reason or two why each is a #######, as he did for Lagos.

4. Does he know anyone by name & title in the Dept. of State to whom to complain about "#######" consulates?

(This last could be valuable also for those who have been subjected to the blonde in Casablanca, and, I think, to some ill-tempered consul in Vietnam that I seem to remember reading about -- individual misbehavior means institutional tolerance of it.)

5. Can he (or someone who works for him) provide an updated, detailed, insider's description of what a file goes through when it's received and processed? That "former adjudicator at the NSC" thread here on VJ was immensely interesting, but it's 5 or 6 years old; parts of it still likely apply, but other parts are certainly wildly out of date.

Part of the insatiable search for knowledge, si man. Gracias again.

The above respondents are correct.  By the way, anyone planning to cross by land at a smaller port would do well to call ahead to see if the port office can handle the processing of a K-1 entrant during the time when the entry is planned.  A list of ports is here:  http://www.cbp.gov/x...tacts/ports/tx/

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDo they google you?

USCIS may or may not "google" people.  The consulates most certainly have done so.

If I had one wish vis-a-vis VisaJourney, I would want to get it through everyone's head that the consular phase of the visa process is to be taken the most seriously of any.  Too few here realize this, and some VJ members end up having years or a lifetime to regret their oversight.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI lied on my B2 application - will this hurt our K1 chances??

You're seeing some sights, aren't you?  Therefore, your answer was general yet truthful.

Important:  Did the embassy ask you anything further?  Even more important, did the CBP agent ask you anything further, at your port of entry?  If so, what did you say?

Do you intend to overstay your B2 visa?  (Correct answer:  No, and I won't!)

Welcome to VisaJourney, by the way!

You might e-mail the embassy (with your case number, etc. in the Subject line), report the omitted information with your explanation and the details that you know of, state that you'll bring an updated form to the interview, and request acknowledgment.  Whether they acknowledge your e-mail or not, print a copy of it to take to the interview with the updated form.  This should cover you, and it also shows your willingness to be completely forthcoming.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTired

There's a lot of well-meant but truly terrible advice in this thread.  Santo Domingo is not by any stretch of the imagination a powderpuff embassy.

OP, if you haven't filed the I-129F yet, front-load your petition package with meaningful material that you want the consul to see.  Don't overload, but include a healthy amount that leaves no doubt as to the bona fide nature of your relationship.  USCIS will not care about this information, but it will be passed on to the embassy, where it can be crucial.  At all costs, exclude any communications wherein you refer to one another -- even in fun -- as "husband" or "wife" (if you're not married).  This would be an automatic killer.

Equally crucial is that you budget your time and funds now for your eventual trip to Santo Domingo when the visa interview is ultimately scheduled.  Your attendance is mandatory.  Be thankful that SD is up-front about this, whereas others (chief among them the ####### consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador) are deceptive.

For your peace of mind, go atop any VJ page, click "Embassy Info" and "Reviews: Embassy," and read every tip that you can find.  Pay particular attention to the WORST experiences.  Preparing now, which you're fortunate to be able to, will settle your nerves and solidify your petition package.

Finally, because you're apparently not married yet, go into your profile settings and change the information from IR-1/CR-1 to K-1.   The "Filed For" information in the left sidebar of your posts could throw people. :)

I had this question, "back when."  An immigration attorney explained that the K-1 is a "hybrid" visa -- a nonimmigrant visa with immigrant intent.  This is why the K-1 interviews are in the Immigrant Visa Unit of the consulates.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuick question

The one-year time will satisfy USCIS, of course.  Front-load your petition with a sensible amount of back-up information to support the bona fide nature of your relationship.  Concentrate on time spent together in person.  It might help to construct a "relationship timeline" such as the Vietnam members are used to (see that regional forum).

In addition, read the "Embassy Info" and "Reviews: Embassy" for your consulate, to see what's expected.  Attend particularly to the worst stories, so that you can fend them off in advance, as possible, through front-loading your USCIS petition.  Knowledge is power, and it helps you to avert fear.

What about all the people that wait 7-8 months on their Noa2 and when they get it have no idea what to do next... Why not use them months and read????? Drives me bonkers!!

Not long ago, one of VJ's most level-headed and respected members replied to such a thread with a curious "What have you been doing for the last 8 months?" and she nearly got her head taken off.

Possible answers:

At the Consulate:  "No firm plans are to be made until the visa is granted and in hand.  If these last happen, then the marriage will occur within 90 days of my admission into the U.S."

At POE:  "The marriage will occur within 90 days of my admission into the U.S."

OP, if the I-94 has expired and you have not yet filed for AOS, try to avoid traveling by car within a 100-mile radius of either U.S. border, especially the southern. CBP has internal checkpoints, and the agents have zero sense of humor and are usually looking to nail people.

If you travel before you have received your NOA1 for AOS, carry a copy of your cover-letter (that you sent in with the AOS package).

If you travel after you have received your NOA1 for AOS, carry that (the original letter, not a copy).

In either event, carry a copy of your marriage certificate with you.
