PhilippinesK1 & K2 Interviews in Manila Scheduled!

For most doing it online is quite simple and free. I understand having a K-1 & K-2 is more involved.

Agree its is probably pretty simple to do online. However, I couldn't chance messing anything up in regard to my beautiful future step-daughter. How do you explain to a mother on the day of her Interview that her daughter is not scheduled? I could only imagine the emotion of the moment and decided, nope I don't want to live through that. Peace of mind and assurance is the reason for my call and easily worth the $6 is spent on LD charges. I'm sure I'm not the only to have this cross their mind. Glad and Relieved that's behind me now because I was stressing about it since receiving the NOA2.

PhilippinesK1 & K2 Interviews in Manila Scheduled!
Forgot one thing...

If you call the Manila numbers, select "Non-Immigrant" and Just choose YES when prompted if you've completed a DS-160. I didn't do a DS-160 because it is not required for a K1/K2 and I was never asked about it by the Agent.

PhilippinesK1 & K2 Interviews in Manila Scheduled!
Because we are doing a K1 and K2 Visa, we decided the best way to do this was for me (the Petitioner) to call the U.S. Embassy in Manila. Would have been too expensive for her to call using her mobile phone. We just felt better about doing it via phone rather than online. If you choose to call, here are some things you should know (not in any particular order)...

1. If you call the numbers listed here under Embassy Info, you will get their Call Center in Manila. I called 011-63-2982-5555. If you are in the U.S. you can call 1-888-877-9888 but you will pay $18 via credit card for 3 calls. It was actually cheaper for me to call Manila Internationally than pay the $18. I just bought a $10 calling card and used about $6 for a 27 minute call to set 2 Interviews.

2. Have your Case Number ready. They will ask for it up front.

3. Before you call, be sure to contact the NVC to find out when your packet was sent to Manila. They will ask you if you received notification from the Embassy that the packet was received. We didn't receive any notification. I told the agent that the NVC sent it to Manila the previous week (which the NVC did). I suppose the agent looked it up and saw that it was on system.

4. Have your payment information ready...

  • How it was paid (in my case BPI)
  • Amount in Pesos
  • Time it was paid

TIP: I had my fiancee take a picture of the receipts and had her email the pic to me so that I could see them.

The Agent only asked for one reference of payment even though we paid for a K1 and a K2. I suppose she looked it up on system also.

5. Have the K1/K2 Passport Information Ready. Here are the things they will ask...

  • Full Name on Passports
  • Passport Numbers (also the BPI Receipt Numbers)
  • Date Passports Issued
  • Date Passports Expire
  • Place Passports Were Issued (DFA Location)
  • Holder's Nationality and Residency

6. Have your K1's and K2's Information Ready. They will ask for...

  • Dates of Birth
  • Phone Numbers
  • Addresses
  • Email Addresses

The email address you provide is for the Embassy to email the Appointment Letter.

7. The Agent will tell you the next available date. If you have a preference, be ready to let the agent know. I want to be there for the interviews so I had a date in mind so that I can fly to Manila.

If you are setting appointments for a K1 and a K2, be very clear to them you are setting 2 appointments. Since my fiancee's daughter is 3 I set Interviews for the same date and time. Chances are their interviews will be combined although I can't confirm this here and now.

You will also be asked if the Visa(s) will be delivered or picked up. We chose delivery so be sure to double check the Address you give them letter by letter if it brings peace to mind. Same goes with the email address for the Appointment Letter.

Finally, you will have the option to create the online account regardless if you set the interviews via telephone. I chose to do so in the event we want to change the schedules. The Agent will setup the online account for you and email you the link and credentials. Setting up the online account is entirely up to you. Note that after the 3rd change of schedule you will have to pay the fee again or something like that. They'll read the script to you so just pay attention.

Overall, calling and setting the Interviews was very easy. My biggest advice if you call is to have your information readily available when they ask for it. Time = $ on an International Call. Hope the information helps anyone who needs it.

PhilippinesProcedure for K1 and K2

If she was not married to the father of her child and the father is not around. She has sole custody of her child. She does not need a letter from the child's father for the visa interview.

Yes you can most definitely accompany your fiance at the visa interview. It will give her moral and loving support. The CO's may ask you a few questions but the interview is for her. You presence also adds to the proof of relationship and shows you are serious.

Good Luck and God Bless!!

Thanks for the advisement. I know I looked this up in the past and read what the DSWD had published on their website. My concern at that time was that my fiance's daughter carries her father's last name. However, the CENOMAR proves they were never married and thus my fiance' has ultimate authority of her daughter.

As far as the Visa Interview goes, there is no doubt that I will attend not only to attend to my future step-daughter but to also provide support for my bride to be. Like you said, I may be asked a couple of questions which I will gladly answer. Many Thanks

PhilippinesProcedure for K1 and K2
Thanks for the advice and information.

Does my fiance' really need a Permission To Travel from the other parent? My fiance' was never married and from what I have read here and on the DSWD and Philippines Immigration websites is that in the case of illegitimate children (hate that reference) the mother has ultimate authority. There's also no reference of this in the requirements published by the US Embassy in Manila. Please advise if anyone can.

Will I be able to accompany her to the Visa Interview. I have read here that the Petitioner can indeed attend. I want to be there to support her and also attend to my future step-daughter while mommy is being interviewed.

Many thanks VJers.

PhilippinesProcedure for K1 and K2
I recently received my NOA2. I have petitioned for my Fiance' and included her daughter (3 years old) who are in the Philippines in my I129F. My questions are...

1. Does she set appointments individually for her as well as her daughter?
2. When paying at BPI are the fees separated for the K1 and the K2 applicants?
3. Can someone accompany her to SLMCEC to watch her daughter while my Fiance is getting her exam?

My assumptions are that she will pay at BPI for a K1 and a K2 (they both have valid passports) and then set separate interviews. I just don't know what they could possibly ask a 3 year old.

Just need a little guidance and personal experiences. Thanks in advance.

PhilippinesSpot in SLEC X-Ray

She will be given a number to call when the 2 month period ends. She can go back to her province, then if it's negative she will have to return for the vaccine before the interview.

Appreciate your feedback. One last question if I may. SLEC will cancel her Interview but we will be responsible to reschedule correct?

Based on your timeline I see you are waiting for the results. Good luck and hoping all will be well with your journey. Thanks again.

PhilippinesSpot in SLEC X-Ray

The next step is a 3 day sputum test then a 2 month culture which she does not have to stay in Manila. But if the culture comes back positive, somewhere during the 2 months, she will have to remain in Manila for 6 months of treatment.

So 3 consecutive days for the sputum tests at SLEC, then she can go back to her province and wait for the 2 month culture results. Does she need to go back to Manila for the results or will she be notified?

PhilippinesSpot in SLEC X-Ray
My Fiancee has not taken the examination yet, but has had a suggestive PTB spot in an xray from several weeks ago (she's currently under medication). I have been searching here and have spoken with a friend with a similar experience and I'm a little confused with some mixed information. What happens if during the Examination at St.Luke's the spot is still seen in the XRay? What are the next steps that SLEC will do? Would she would have to remain in Manila for 2 months and why? Appreciate any feedback as I am trying to determine how to approach this. If all goes well at SLEC in mid-April, her interview will be the following week. Thanks in advance.

PhilippinesMeeting Fiancee's Parents
Thanks for all the great tips and suggestions. I'm familiar with everything that was said here and for sure will remember those things. My biggest concerns was how to deal with Tatay, Nanay and all the Titos and Titas. I know that I need to respectfully ask Tatay and Nanay for their blessings and was banging my head on the wall on how and when to do this. I've never asked a father and mother for their blessings before, and certainly not in the Philippines. Many Many Thanks VJers.

PS: Didn't know about the gummies. Thought it was chocolate all the way. Thanks for the new tip.

PhilippinesMeeting Fiancee's Parents
Hi VJers. I'm flying to the Phils in a couple of weeks and will meet my Fiancee's parents and family in her Province for the first time. What should I expect and what are some things I should do to earn their trust and respect. I understand most of the culture and I'm not too worried. Just want to cover all bases. My Fiancee's interview is in April so it is nearing the time where my Fiancee and her daughter will leave their home. Her family knows our intentions and plans but I would just like to know how to address their concerns (if any). Thanks in advance.

PhilippinesFirst Trip to Fiancee's Province

I'm a believer in meeting the family, that's for sure. There's lots of transportation options.

I commission cabs sometimes out of the regional airports. If you walk outside there will often be a group of cabs and you can announce where you are going and take the best offer. You can't quite do that at the International airport, but if you are brave enough you can go a little off-airport and make a deal with one of them for a charter.

I've rented or hired cars, multicabs, off-duty jeepneys, motorcycles - and done buses too, but its my last choice! Top choice is a room on one of the ferries if that's an option. A state room has the highest nookie time coefficient. Plus you get to walk around on the deck. There will be a restaurant. Remember not to toss coins to the boys swimming out and diving for them at the side of the ship. :innocent:

I'm a little adventurous myself and that's why I took the bus. Not sure if I'll get a chance to do the ferry because Bicol is still on Luzon, but I will surely consider it given the opportunity. I've considered flying to Naga and doing the bus/cab thing, but for the price and experience, the bus was a great adventure.

PhilippinesFirst Trip to Fiancee's Province

im from camarines sur and yup naga is quite far from camarines norte i think its even more than 2 hrs. i have friends and relatives living there too and going there is tiring but when you already there, pineapples are the best there and beaches are great!

i miss bicol express too and some street foods back home. remind your fiance to bring some of her fave foods here in the US just incase its allowed. our home here in the US is far from an asian store and the chips here are like less than 10 variety and all are potatoes. i miss chitchiria (junk foods).

Pinyas in Cams Norte were the best I've ever had in the Phils. Love the way they prep it in a spiral to remove the eyes. Also makes it easy to serve. Fantastic stuff. Of course, got a whole bunch of Pili nuts to take back home. Another famous Bicol product.

I'm sure my Fiancee will find most of what she needs here in my home of Guam. Large Filipino population here and produce and products are pretty easy to find. Thanks for the tip though.

PhilippinesFirst Trip to Fiancee's Province

Do you mean that some people are courteous and respectful sometimes not all the time? So in other words you are referring to fake people? That is not cool. (That's my opinion).

I am the same everywhere I go.

All a matter of opinion and judgement I suppose. Courteous Example: Hosted a dinner for Fiancee's immediate family. I made sure everyone ate before I started. Respectful Example: Greeted elders with their hand to my forehead.

In a different culture, country and even province your actions (and even lack of) are all looked at and judged. When under a microscope of a parent or relative, then you've got to think your actions and gestures through. Just my two cents.

im from BICOL too. where specifically your fiance located? there are flights from manila-naga and vice versa and its just 45 minutes and its not that expensive too. saves time and safe compare to riding buses..

My Fiance is in Camarines Norte Province. I took the bus because I wanted to experience it for myself and see other parts of Luzon. The time went by faster than I expected. May do the Manila-Naga flight some other time, but it would still be a 2 hour bus/van from Naga up to Cam Norte. BTW, I can't wait to eat Bicol Express again! Masarap!

PhilippinesFirst Trip to Fiancee's Province
I just wanted to share my experience with you all. I just returned home from a week long trip to the PI. My Fiancee met me in Manila and we then journeyed 9 hours from Manila to her Province in Bicol by bus. Spent 4 days there meeting her parents and family, sought their blessings, bonded with relatives, and just to take in the experience of her home. Being outside of Metro Manila was also a change of pace I really enjoyed. Great trip. Wonderful family as I expected, Fantastic food, and memories for a lifetime.

Thanks for all the advice I got here on VJ prior to my trip. The Pasalubong ideas were great, even though the extra suitcase fee cost me more than some of the gifts I brought. Damn airline merger (talking about the largest airline in the world based in Chicago). Anyway, here's what I learned that might help you...

  • Long bus rides generally don't make many stops for CR
  • Bring 5 Peso coins with you for the use of CRs at the Sari Saris you do stop for
  • Towns in the Provinces are generally cash only with few ATMs (if any)
  • Chocolates are always appreciated. Hard candies for kids
  • Little to no water pressure can be expected. Shower with a pail is often the means or pumping your own water
  • Do not refuse food offered and never show you don't like what you've just tried
  • Trikes are small! At 5'10" I could barely fit in the side car
  • Power/Water outages are not uncommon
  • Have a night out or two with Titas and Titos and foot the bills

Most of all...

  • Be courteous and respectful
  • Don't act like the foreigner who's there to own the town
  • Talk and plan things through with your Fiancee to see if your intended actions are acceptable
  • Don't go around flaunting you have money. It's disrespectful and could probably get you into trouble quick
For those of you VJers who have not visited their Fiance(e)'s province/home town, you are missing out on the opportunity for the family to meet you and get to know you. Most especially it gives them an opportunity to ask questions to you and for them to understand the whole K1/K2 Visa process. I had the impression that my fiancee's family thought she would never return home to the Philippines (which I dispelled). Going there was a win win situation and it turned out to be fantastic. I really want to go back again soon. That's how much I enjoyed it.

Thanks all for your feedback.

We'll surely register online to expedite things when they get to St. Luke's. I'm leaning towards between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM for them to show up at SLEC. I'll advise them on what time to show up, but it really depends on them since I will not be there until the following week. She wants to go at 4:30 AM but I positive there will be a long que already at that hour. Since I have two individuals to consider, I'm going to advise them to do it on Monday the 16th (Yes, I know Mondays are busy days), but no later than Tuesday the 17th.

PhilippinesSt. Luke's Exam
My Fiancee and her 3 year old daughter will make the trek to Manila and get their exams next week. Realistically what would be the best time for them to show up at St.Luke's? I'd like to advise them on the best time to go to avoid standing in line for hours before the clinic even opens. Please keep in mind her daughter is only 3 and would easily get tired standing in a que and mommy would get tired of carrying her for any long period. I hear around 9 or 10 AM is a good time, but I want to also make sure they can both be seen on their first day. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanec VJers.

Why chance it. I had my fiancee get a new one as hers expires soon as well. She got hers in one day but she spent the entire day at the NBI. Unfortunately you may be out of time as today is Good Friday and it is a holiday (as well as Monday). If you are required to get a new one and your fiancee is in a province, have her get the clearance at the nearest NBI Regional Office. She can get it same day. My fiancee was required to provide her passport number and my US address for whatever reason so just be prepared.

PhilippinesImmunizations at St. Luke's deferred

When your fiancée finishes her medical exam at St. Lukes, St. Lukes will give your fiancée her immunization record (DS-3025). She needs to bring it to the U.S. because she will need it when she applies to adjust her status. You guys will take the DS-3025 to a civil surgeon, and the civil surgeon will transcribe the vaccination information onto form I-693 and seal the I-693 in an envelope. You will include the envelope with her adjustment of status packet that you send to the USCIS.

If she doesn't need any more vaccinations here in the U.S., you shouldn't have to pay more than about $40 for the civil surgeon's transcription services.

Great info Tahoma. Many Thanks.

PhilippinesImmunizations at St. Luke's deferred

Tahoma is right on. The immunizations matter not. I was with my fiance at the Us Embassy and through the whole process in Manila. I knew how nervous she would be. WE practiced the interview many times so she was relaxed when going through the process there. That week we spent in Manila I tried to make it as relaxing as possible even though it was hectic each day.

The immunizations if she gets them will be updated in her forms to take with her to the states. Not a major deal. glad the pregnancy is recent. It will at least make travel easier for her, but find an Asian market place near home which carries Filipino items. It helps immensely. the one thing we are always searching for is manila mangoes. I am thinking of planting a couple of manila mango trees. I buy so many of them almost a case a week as well as a lot of coconut milk and milo.

But St. Lukes won't be a problem. Some girls get vaccines, some girls don't. It seems almost expected many filipinas will be pregnant when going through St. Lukes and the visa process. Hope all goes well for you and your mahal ko.

Thanks for the feedback. Never hurts to ask questions to alleviate some of the stresses this whole process puts on us.

We had planned from the start of the K1/K2 process that I would attend their interviews and that's why I'll be in Manila for a week. I leave the day after tomorrow (woo hoo!). I can't wait to be there with my mahal and my future step-daughter. Miss them so much even though it only been 4 weeks since I was last with them.

I'm fortunate enough to live near the Philippines whereby it's only a 3.5 hour flight to Manila for me. I live in Guam by the way. When I can spare some time away from work, I visit as often as I can (which is nearly every month). There's a huge Filipino population here in Guam and the culture here is similar. I don't feel there will be too much difficulty for my mahal and her daughter to adapt here. Got the same foods, produce, climate, religion, etc. for them to acclimate to. Plus I have many Filipino friends for them to get to know. Got the mangoes here and if she needs some coconut for her Bicol Express, I can husk and grate them myself. LOL. Cheers, Best Wishes to you and your mahal, and Thanks for the add.

PhilippinesImmunizations at St. Luke's deferred

She doesn't need any vaccinations in order to get a K-1 visa. However, she might want to get a Tdap at St. Lukes because it's OK to get it when pregnant. That will save some money because you have already paid for it.

She can get the rest of the vaccinations in the U.S. before she files for AOS. If she's still pregnant when she applies for AOS, she can get the rest of the vaccinations waived. When the civil surgeon transcribes her DS-3025 onto her I-693, the doctor simply will note that she can't get the shots because she's pregnant.

Thanks for the advice in the TDAP. My Fiancee and her daughter (she got her immunizations) will be heading back to SLEC for their results. We'll know for sure if we're expecting :D Once we are in the know, we can decide for sure which route to take.

Let's say we decide to get the immunization. How does the record make it into the packet since it will be after the interview? Just trying to get some understanding of this process. Thanks.

PhilippinesImmunizations at St. Luke's deferred
St.Luke's deferred my Fiancee's immunization for 1 month after her last sexual contact with me. This deferred date would make it after her scheduled visa interview. Does this have any bearing on the interview or exam packet that St.Luke's will provide the embassy?

Needless to say she is late and we are expecting that she is indeed pregnant (woo hoo!). Knowing this, I understand that some immunizations are not administered during pregnancy. What is the impact of skipping immunizations at St.Luke's entirely and deferring them until after her entry into the US (during her pregnancy of course)? Thanks in advance VJers.

Now I know why she doesn't want to go to the zoo. .... but all the monkeys aren't in the zoo.... everyday you meet quite a few....

but still don't understand not wanting to go to the pool. I expect a "character" of a girl. Mahal ko and I both like 3 stoooges, stargate sg-1, spongebob, ASAP, it's showtime, and HYY. We also like Jackie Chan. There are some other differences, but when she watches her TFC shows, I just cuddle up and hold her. Maybe I pick things up, some times not.... But there are times when the baby loves to kick me. :bonk:

And for lighter skinned people, lots of lighter skinned people around us, but also many Filipinos. Expect our daughter to be lighter skinned then my wife, but darker skinned then me.

PhilippinesMedical (Sputum)

I hope so too. Matt will call them tom to find out. We are also thinking if this was because of the congressional expedite sent last Monday. It was confirmed in the NVC that the expedite was sent to the embassy already. Since St. Luke's posted my name in the embassy that I'm not yet cleared from them, maybe the embassy called them about it. I had a clear x-ray, there was just tiny blurry, there were no scars. We called the congress and thought that maybe because of the expedite letter. We'll see when Matt calls tom. I was just told that my medical has the result already and I'm good to return on the 30th, that's my 4th week.

Scar just means dead lung tissue, blurry could be Active TB. Clear x-ray , just tiny blurry? So which is it? Clear or tiny blurry? Are you trying to make an oxymoron?

The last three years tax transcripts are free from the IRS. They wont penalize you for sending 3 years, even if they only need one. No need stressing over it, send all three. :)

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionmore questions

okey my apologies for having multiple post please bear with me.

according to USEM requirements;

* Police certificates from your present country of residence and all countries where you have lived for 6 months or more since age 16*

i have lived in bahrain for the past 8years, i did however successfully acquired a CID Clearance before i came back to manila in August. so far ive been here for 5 months now. my bahrain CID clearance says its valid for 3 months. do i need to renew it? or its okey since i got it before i left the country.

also since it says its required to have police clearance since i was 16, am i required to get one from kuwait since i was there when i was 18 then saudi when i was 24?

or its enough that i have bahrain CID clearance & manila NBI clearance.

anybody else who have experience and knowledge of this please?

This is what is says in the K1 interview instructions from the US Embassy in Manila:

g. OTHER COUNTRY POLICE CERTIFICATES. Applicants aged 16 years and older must also present police certificates from other countries where they have lived for six (6) months or more after reaching the age of 16. As with NBI clearances, foreign police certificates should be obtained in any maiden names, aliases or nicknames used while in the country in question, including different spellings you have used of those names. Country-specific information on how to secure police certificates is available on the State Department's web site at http://travel.state..../fees_3272.html.

So yes, if you were in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia for more than 6 months you need police clearances from each of them also.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioni just dont get it? may i have some help with my K-1 VJ?

So i have looked at all the guides for the K1 and all the documentation seems simple enough.

My problem is i dont actually understand some of the steps

If i am understanding this right:

I Assemble the I-129F Package and send it off (-the I-134 financial sponsor form)

i then wait to receive a NOA1 notification

do i need to submit anything else at this point? or do i just wait till i get something saying NOA2?

Then looking at the guide it says i am to send my I-134 (financial Sponsor form) to my partner.

What does he do with it?

Do i not send it in as part of the 1-129F in the beginning for assessment?

Sorry if this is an obvious question have been looking around VJ and i just cant work it out.

Thank you everyone in advance!

Have you actually looked at the guide? The steps are pretty clear cut and spelled out. http://www.visajourn...content/k1guide

I'm assuming that you're the petitioner and your "partner" is the beneficiary? Since you're petitioning for him to apply for a fiance visa, you may want to refer to him as your fiance. The documents that you send to your fiance are brought by him to the visa interview at the US embassy/consulate.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAbout In Come Tax Return I need some suggestions

My fiance's ITR 2009 and 2010 are below $18,000. Its because he is a fresh graduate and couldnt get a full time / good job that pays good.. and then last November 2010 he got a job as an inventory manager w/c pays $32,500 a year. w/c is above the poverty level. So does the ITR will affect my approval during the interview? Or not? or anyone has the same situation? any suggestions.? Im just kinda worried about it. thank you so much! ill wait for your replies guys.. especially for those who are in the philippines. God bless all!

I'd suggest that he obtains a "letter of employment" from his employer's HR department. You can read an explanation and see an example here: http://www.visajourn...ployment_Letter
You'll also also want to have copies of his pay statements/check stubs from his current job for the past six months. Consulates see AoSs from recent college graduates fairly often, this is not an insurmountable obstacle as long as he has current employment that meets or exceeds the poverty guidelines.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK1 Visa second DS-230 / London

Just had a letter in the post today from the London Embassy.

I sent my Packet 3 in and called the DOS yesterday to confirm they had received it, which they had. The letter today states that I need to fill in and complete DS-230 Part I/II as well as DS-2001.

I sent in a DS-230 Part I completed and signed with Packet 3. Do I need to send in Part II even though it was blank? Or did they not get DS-230 Part I?

Regards
David.

Why would you have left part II blank? As far as I know it is only to be "unsigned",but still filled out up to bu not including item #45, because it will be signed in front of the CO.

Now, for the more experienced folks. What is the deciding factor in what form needs to be submitted for a K-1 visa application? I.E. DS-156, DS--156K, DS-157, DS-158, DS-160, DS-230. Previous to this I was under the impression that K-1 required either an I-156 or an I-160 depending on whether or not you were filing electronically.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionquestion

Has anyone gone to juarez and represent themselves? i just discovered today my lawyer decided to stop representing us i feel it is because shes a very busy person any information would be helpful

thanks

Represent themselves in what? What type of petition or visa is this concerning? I'm fairly certain that the National Visa Center is in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and not in Juarez, Mexico. Providing a few more details about your case and posting your question in the correct forum would aid greatly in obtaining a relevant answer to your questions.
