Thanks All for the suggestions. Here's what I already have in the box...

Instant Noodles (Sapporo Ichiban of course)
Spam
Corned Beef
Pantene Shampoo (Damn had to be the expensive stuff)
Pantene Conditioner (see Damn comment right above)
Lotion
Candies
Smoked Sausages
Tabasco
Soap
Tooth Paste

Here's what I may get thanks to some suggestions here on VJ and from some friends...

School Supplies
Rice
Coffee
Creamer
Cookies
Cereal

Any more suggestions are welcomed. My box is about half filled, and for $55 I want to stuff the ####### out of this box.

FYI, I use Forex to ship to the Philippines. LBC is also available, but I don't like the fact I have to bring my stuff to their location and fill the box there. Forex will even pick up my box at my home.

PhilippinesBalikbayan Box - What Would You Send

Cash.

 Send Monopoly money in the box maybe

Basic commodities is good since these items are expensive in the Philippines. Items like toothpase, shampoo, bath soap, lotion and etc.

Got some of those. Will get some of your other suggestions. Thanks.

I want to send some items to my fiancee and family. I have an idea of things to send, but like some of your thoughts on items they would like or need. This box is going to the Province and not Manila. Thanks in advance.

Philippineshow much t rent a room in manila
Finding a place near SLEC is not difficult. What is difficult is finding a place that meets your budget. My finances were stretched thin putting up my Fiancee and step-daughter in a condo near by. PHP 16,000 a month for two adults for every expense that they could incur is IMHO not enough for Manila. In the province this is more than enough, but in the city the funds won't go as far. For example, the cost for electricity is about 10x more expensive than in the province.

My suggestion is to put them up in a hotel that has a weekly or monthly rate so that your Fiancee gets the DOT process started. You can use the time looking for a place. As with other responses, I suggest putting them by themselves and not expose them to others with any illnesses. DOT medication is harsh on a woman's body and your Fiancee should have a clean healthy environment while she is doing her treatment. Keep in mind that she will have monthly evaluations and have to do the entire medical exam all over again when her treatment is completed.

Philippines6 month treatment at st lukes

six7one,

If the sputum tests from your fiancee was negative, why did they still ask her to do a 4-month DOT?

I'll try to summarize...

I had my fiancee take a medical exam and CXR prior to her official exam at SLEC. This was in February 2011. At her exam in the province, her doctor saw a spot in her CXR and prescribed her medication as a precautionary measure. No sputum or culture was done in the province. Upon completion of 2 months of medication, she did the official SLEC exam in April 2011. When SLEC saw the same spot, it was automatic that they do the sputum test and culture. My fiancee informed them at her evaluation that she was prescribed the medication and provided the certification from her doctor back home that she indeed was on medication. Regardless that she has passed every SLEC sputum test in addition to the culture, the guideline from the CDC is clear that she had to complete the 4 additional months.

In about 4 weeks her last culture should be done and she can take the medical exam all over again. Hope this info helps.

Philippines6 month treatment at st lukes
The exception to the 6 month of DOT is...

"If the applicant has completed 2 months or less of the 6-month isoniazid and ethambutol continuation phase (and has no drug resistance), the 6-month isoniazid and ethambutol continuation phase should be stopped and the patient should be started on the standard 4-month continuation phase of isoniazid and rifampin."

Customs all depends on how you transit through Guam. If you retrieve your checked bag or leave the airport terminal, you will need to go through Guam Customs. All passengers will pass US Immigrations. The United flight from Manila arrives around 4:30 AM. The flight to Houston (via Honolulu) departs aroud 6:30 AM. There's also an option to connect to other destinations via Tokyo after Guam. A couple of Tokyo flights from Guam, but the closest would be one that departs around 7:00 AM. Hope this helps.

PhilippinesGetting a child to the US with a different "father" name on Birth Certificate
If they were never married, then under Philippine law the mother has ultimate authority over the child. There should not be any issue with the child leaving the country for immigration into the US unless the father has filed any sort of custody matters in the Philipines courts. The child having the father's last name or his name on the birth certificate has no bearing on immigratting provided the mother was never married, and the child's BC clearly indicate that she is indeed the mother. Changing information on the BC is an entirely different issue that would surely require legal expertese in the Philipines.

PhilippinesMEDICAL EXAM

hi ca babe! i know it's better to be proactive than to wait. my husband is here with me right now coz were planning to fly back together in the states. :) so does it mean that if i do my medical next week I need to leave right away after the culture and sputum is done? I thought the validity of medical is for 6 months? thanks for your respond and God bless!

Daniel I think that's for fiancé visa. For spouses visa it's the nvc who will sched the interview. Just found out about it :)

six7one I'm done with my medication. I started January and I was done July so I don't think I need the DOT thing anymore and besides I had my culture too and I'm negative for it. thank you for the concern :) did they honor the medical certificate? Coz I was thinking if I'm going to show them my culture results from this center for disease facility in front of makati med :) thank you and God bless you too :)

Ah ok I misread. They honored the certification that my Fiancee took medication. As for your existing culture results I cannot say. Good luck and let us know how everything turns out. Your update/information would surely benefit other VJ members.

PhilippinesMEDICAL EXAM

hi!

we just got our case number from nvc and im planning to have my medical exam even though we havent started yet with our nvc process ( except for getting the case number).
the reason for this is last january i had my check up and they saw something on my chest xray and i was put on medication (six months) for precautionary measures even before i had my sputum test. then after 2 months of that i had my culture results and im negative. but then i cannot stop my medication anymore. anyway i just want to do the medical exam now cause for sure they will see the same spot again and i just want to start the sputum right away so the 2 month thing is already moving. but im thinking if i'm going to bring my medical records ( culture results medical cert. etc) they might honor it and i dont have to do the sputum exam anymore. do you think thats possible?

and my second concern is about the scheduling of interview and payment. i was reading the nvc thread and step by step procedure and based from what i understand there, the nvc will do the interview scheduling? but then ive seen posts from manila that theyre paying bpi and theyre the ones whos scheduling the interview? im really confused with this matter. i hope you guys can enlighten me about these. :) thank you very much and God bless!

Your situation sounds similar to ours in that you have already started medication. Our experience is that my Fiancee told SLEC she was already under medication for suspected TB. They did require my Fiancee to do the sputum and culture tests which were always negative. However, just be aware that if you indicate that you were under previous treatment, SLEC may require you to complete the 6 month treatment. This is what happened in our case. SLEC did honor the time my Fiancee already completed and required her to merely finish the remainder of a 6 month treatment via DOT (for us that was 4 months).

I don't mean to scare you, just prepare you for the possibility of DOT which can only be administered in Manila at SLEC. Bring a certification from your doctor of when the treatment started, any Chest X Rays, and test results. Be truthful about your treatment as it is a serious health matter. I know this may be a little harsh to hear but it is something you have to consider and prepare for. Good Luck and God Bless

PhilippinesI-134 for K2
My Fiancee's daughter will accompany her mother to the Interview and will travel with once their Visas are issued. As such, I need some guidance on the I-134 for the K2...

Question 10 - Do I list my Fiancee here, her daughter, or leave blank?

Question 11 - Should I put "N/A (K2 Visa process for Permanent Residence)"

Any experiences or advice is greatly appreciated on the above questions (or any tips on a K2 I-134). Thanks in advance VJers.

PhilippinesMicrosim card availability

Hello,

How widely are Globe/Smart/etc. prepaid microsim cards available in the Philippines?

Thanks in advance.

Available, Yes. "Widely" not so sure you can buy one at a sari sari type of store. Iphones and the Galaxy S3 are pretty prevalent so micro sims are available. Not sure of the kiosks at the arrival area of NAIA Terminals have micro sims, but if in Manila you can surely pick one up at a Mall shop or in Greenhills.

PhilippinesK1/K2 Now Require DS-230?

Excellent!

I've updated the link in my list as well. I wish the embassy would use the same link and update the letter there instead of having out-dated versions floating about also.

Couldn't agree more about them using the same link. Feel bad for anyone not getting the latest info about the DS-230 and showing up at the Embassy without it. Their new policy states that applicants will get turned away, albeit able to return before 10AM with all printed DS Forms.

PhilippinesK1/K2 Now Require DS-230?
Thanks all. I was just surprised as all the instructions I've downloaded to date did not have the DS-230 as a requirement. Then last night I decided to go over my document package one more time and so I went to USEM site to cross-reference. Whoa!! Why is this DS-230 required now? Guess I just freaked out and needed to confirm. FYI I did complete Part I of the DS-230. Did one for my Fiancee and one for her daughter.

PhilippinesK1/K2 Now Require DS-230?
The latest K1/K2 instructions from the US Embassy Manila's website says that each applicant must submit one completed copy of Part I of the DS-230. Is that a mistake? Thought the DS-230 is for IMMIGRANT Visas. Can any one validate this if the embassy is indeed looking for this form for K1 and K2 applicants?

PhilippinesDS Forms and Signatures

I believe only the DS-156K has instructions on it to not sign it until in front of the CO at the embassy.

I don't remember the DS-156 having a place to even sign it, and there is no issue with signing the DS-230 either.

I didn't have a K2 but I am sure a few others will chime in, if nothing else you can wait until at the embassy to ask how to sign the forms for the child.

Reviewing all the required DS Forms for K1/K2, here's what I can summarize about Signatures...

DS-156: Required (Item #41)
DS-157: None
DS-156K: Required (Below Item #5) DO NOT sign until instructed to by CO
DS-230 Part I: Required (Below Item #35)

Perhaps you can add these tips to your excellent guide.

PhilippinesDS Forms and Signatures
Ok, I know K1/K2 applicants sign the DS-156K at the embassy when the CO instructs them do do so. My questions are...

1. When should an applicant sign the DS-156 and the DS-230? Before going to the Embassy or at the Embassy?

2. What do we do for a 4 year old K2?

Just trying to get on top of these things. Fiancee and her daughter have their interviews on Monday. Oh, and I will be joining them :D Thanks in advance VJers.

My Fiancee and her daughter were approved this morning. I accompanied them to the interview and everything was a breeze. I'll submit a review of our experience later. Been up since 4:30 this morning, but our efforts and patience have finally been rewarded.

NOTE: The embassy never once asked for our DS-230 forms. I don't understand why they would add it as a requirement and yet never ask for it. You should have one just in case. You never know when they will.

Philippines2Go Delivery for Chilld's Passport/Visa
Sorry for the confusion everyone. Question is not related to a US Passport. To elaborate more...

My Fiance's K1 and her daughter's K2 Visas were approved recently. We are now awaiting delivery of their passports and visas via 2Go Courier service. The website US Travel Docs indicated required IDs upon delivery as well as requirement for children under the age of 16. - An original, signed letter of authority from either of the applicant's parents

Is this letter of authority required if it's one of the parents receiving the delivery? If so, does anyone have a sample so I can have my fiancee prepare one? Any experience/advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance VJers.

PhilippinesMy father was advised to return at St. Lukes in about 2 months from now
SLEC scheduled my fiancee's and her daughter's interviews after they passed their second medical exams. SLEC printed the appointments for them. However, when I checked the appointments online I found that my fiancee's daughter was incorrectly noted as K1. I can only speak of our experence, but we were told by SLEC that they would be the ones to schedule the interviews. Its up to you how you want to handle it. Just check the schedule online at every step (cancelling and the new schedule).

PhilippinesMy father was advised to return at St. Lukes in about 2 months from now

My father had his medical exam yesterday and unfortunately he was advised to return in about two months from now because they found out something in his x-ray exam. The staff at St. Lukes told him that they will re-schedule his interview. Are they going to tell him when his re-schedule interview? or is he going to wait for a mail that says when? And also is he going to pay another 9,000+ pesos when he return in 2 months?

If you have the same experience like my father hope you can share it to me. Thanks!

Our experience was that St.Lukes did not cancel our scheduled interviews at the USEM. We had to do this ourselves. Keep in mind you are "only allowed to reschedule twice (not including the initial appointment) without penalty."

St. Lukes did schedule our interviews once the follow up medical exams were passed. I also need to mention that they incorrectly listed our K2 as a K1 instead so we had to correct that before the interviews.

Don't rely on them completely to cancel/schedule interviews at the embassy. Check at every step (online or call) to ensure your opportunity for the interview at the US Embassy is not messed up by SLEC. Just my experience and advice.

PhilippinesK1 and K2 Visas Delivered!
Just got a text from my Fiancee. 2Go has delivered my fiancee's K1 and her daughter's K2 passports/visas! I'll be flying to the Philippines in 12 days to bring them over. So excited! Finally get to bring them to our new home.

Our experience with the Visa deliveries...

- Tracking passports/visas before they got to 2Go was pointless in our case. I called a couple of times and was told the passports/visas were still at the embassy
- Called yesterday and was told passports/visas still at the embassy when in fact 2Go already received it earlier in the day. Found this out after I was able track on 2Go's website
- 2Go is a little slow entering it into their system (picked up at embassy in the early morning, but was not available for tracking until the afternoon).
- Our Case Number worked for tracking. Passports and UID numbers never worked.
- Tracking only listed our K2 as the Consignee. I am assuming 2Go's system can only list one name on system if the Case Number is used as the tracking number.
- K1 and K2 delivered as two separate packages (Thanks for the heads up Apple21)
- No need for any "letter of authority" from a PARENT receiving their child' package (Thanks again Apple21)
- 2Go delivered our packages in 1 day after being received! Awesome! They received them just yesterday morning and delivered them to my fiancee in the province around lunch today (She's in a Province in Luzon).

Hope this info helps those of you using delivery for K1 and K2 visas at the same time.

and who has flights to US this month?
tell me we might be on the same flight. :D

My Fiancee did her CFO yesterday. Just FYI, bring photocopies of two IDs. The CFO website mentions needing two IDs, but they don't specify you need photocopies of them in addition to presenting the IDs. My fiancee arrived at the CFO on Quirino at 5:30 AM and was the 11th person in the cue outside. She was able to get into the 9:00 AM seminar. She finished everything the same day, Seminar as well as getting the stickers in the passports (her 4 year old daughter's passport as well). Just bring everything else specified on the CFO website and you should be fine. Hope this helps

Did they tell her when her medical will expire? I met a lady with the same case as your wife during my CFO seminar and they only gave her less than two months. So, her visa will expire 1 month after her interview.. There is a big chance your wife and stepdaughter will be travelling with you back home... that would be GREAT!Posted Image
Good luck to the upcoming interview..
Cheers!

Yes, we were made aware that their recent Medical Exams expire at the end of January. As soon as they are approved we will be making arrangements for them to leave the Philippines which we anticipate to be at the end of December or first week of January. Thanks for the heads up and well wishes.

PhilippinesPost DOT Medicals Update

I'm glad that SLEC will schedule interview have worked out for you, it didn't for Mike. A bunch of non-sense alibis were given to him, saying they couldn't get through and once they got through that the Customer Service rep said they can't do it, that only the person who made the initial interview was to call and reschedule :bonk:

Well congrats and good luck!

Perhaps that would be the case if the original interview was not cancelled. I cancelled their April interviews, so maybe that made a difference. I should note that SLEC did make a mistake which I had to correct this morning. They somehow flagged my step-daughter's Visa Class as K1. I had to contact the Call Center who then cancelled the appointment and added it back with the correct K2 Visa Class.

Lesson #2: Even if SLEC makes the appointment for you, double check everything. Glad I did.

PhilippinesPost DOT Medicals Update
Finally after months of DOT at SLEC the wait is over! My Fiancee and step-daughter have passed their Medical Exams and received their Immunizations.

We were told by SLEC that they would schedule the interviews after the DOT and final exams. I also read here on VJ that SLEC will not schedule their interviews. I can confirm SLEC WILL SCHEDULE INTERVIEWS for post DOT patients following the final medical exam. They did this for my Fiancee and step-daughter at their final medicals/immunizations. Note: They asked that she bring their passports and BPI Receipts which is an indication they would do the scheduling.

My Fiancee and step-daughter will have their Interviews the second week of December (so I can attend). Feels like a massive weight has been lifted from our shoulders now that we can finally have the interviews. For those who have to do DOT, hang in there. The end of that road comes sooner than you think.

FYI: There are a lot of openings for interviews as early as the week of November 19 last we checked.

PhilippinesAirfare from MNL (last minute)
The "Island Hopper" flight is grueling. After departing Guam you will stop on about 5 or 6 islands before arriving in Honolulu. Half of the plane (left side/right side) will be required to get off the plane as each island. Each island nation requires a search of the aircraft. If you are unfortunate to deplane, you'll have to sit or stand at all the non-airconditioned airports.

But if you are into seeing the world, then it may be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the many beautiful islands of the Pacific. Hope you like EXTREMELY short runways built on coral reefs.

Philippinesmarriage consent

http://www.quezoncity.gov.ph/images/stories/downloadables/forms/consenttomarriage.pdf

Does anyone understand how this consent form is done? Is there something similar to a notary that needs to witness this in Philippines? Maybe with a k1 visa it is not necessary? My fiance is asking what she needs to do with this and I don't really have an idea. She is 20.

It's basically a permission form the Commission on Filipino's Overseas (CFO) MIGHT ask for from your Fiancee when she goes to do her departure seminar. When my Fiancee went in January, they did not ask for it. But she should be prepared just in case. It has nothing to do with the US Immigration Visa. She will need the CFO stamp to leave the country. To get the stamp she needs to attend this seminar.

Anyway, it's better to be prepared just in case. So here's what you all need to know about it. Every Municipal Office should have Parental Consent forms because it is a requirement to be married in the Philippines. Simply have her go to her Municipal Office with her parents (bring IDs), fill out the form, all sign in front of the officer, and they will notarize it on the spot. Pay and go.

Parental Consent is required for those aged 21 and below. Those aged 21-25 require Parental Advice. Although I cannot confirm it, I think they are no longer asking for these because CFO does the seminars now and no longer outsource it to the PRISM group. I could be wrong.

PhilippinesD.O.T. almost done now

we are done with 6 month treatment at st lukes in less than 2 weeks and she will have to retake the medical. can anyone tell me how soon after we are done can she retake her medical? thank you very much

You can re-take the medical exam when the final Culture results are available. You'll have a final Culture taken and tested when the last DOT treatment is near completion. My wife had her final Culture taken the week before her last DOT treatment. SLEC will call you when the test results are ready, and they will tell you to come in for the medical exam. Really depends on when they take your last culture sample, then waiting the 2 months for the results.

Just some FYIs: You'll have to pay for the exam again. When you pass, SLEC will schedule your interview at the USEM. They should give you the appointment print-out (the one with the bar code). You will need that paper when you go for your interview.

PhilippinesCFO Certificate and Stamp / Young Children

Good day to all you USEM VJ Members,

My question has to do with the requirement in the Philippines to attend the CFO Seminar to obtain the CFO Certificate and ultimately to have a CFO Stamp in the passport of anyone traveling abroad; prior to departure...

1) How does it relate to young children, do they required the certificate?
2) Will they have to physically attend the Seminar?
3) What is the right method to insure a young child get the Cert & Stamp in their passport?

Thanking anyone who can advise us on this matter.

Very best,
Sahs

General Steps are: Attend Seminar, Get Certificate, Get Sticker.

All the required information for registration (for the Sticker) is on the CFO Website. In a nutshell, children under 12 do not have to attend the seminar (get the certificate). However, they will need the CFO Sticker in their passport. If the child is under 12, have your Fiancee bring the child's passport and docs to the seminar if she doesn't physically bring the child. When she's done with her seminar she'll get her certificate. She can then get the stamp in her passport as well as the child's. This is assuming they both have their US Visas in their passports.

Don't forget to pay the Immigrant Departure fee at the airport when they leave the country. Good luck.

PhilippinesK1 Visa Interview Schedule

Hi VJ!

I just finished my medical today after waiting for the result of my Sputum Culture. I was calling the USEM to schedule for my interview but i cant go through it because of the fact that i did cancel K1 Visa interview schedule 3 times. The call center agent said that she needs to make a report regarding my case to the USEM and wait for the result.

Please help me on this matter. Im here now in Manila just to wait for my interview but i cant go through it. What would be the possible effect for cancelling 3 times the interview. Would it affect my K1 Visa?

What happened was for first 2 cancellations i applied online and i mistakenly click the date for 2 times and the third cancellation was because of my medical that i need to go a Sputum Test.

Would this mean disqualification or do i need to pay another at BPI sot hat i can make a schedule?

Please i need your thoughts on this. Thank you!
