K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWe should be hearing great news from june and early july filers.

Are you serious right now?! "Longer" as in figuratively speaking. Not as in actually longer. More like the minutes feel like hours type thing. Wow, just wow.

And if we were'nt speaking figuratively, how the hell would the holidays make it shorter?! It would be THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME. It is still a day.

For everyone else... I said NO to this post as I refered to another one made by her/him about the holidays making the wait time shorter for Oct/Nov filers. Makes no sense. If it's just me... Please explain.

I would think the the holidays would cause the process to take longer. Do to personnel at the service centers taking extra time off to go on vacation, be with family at home, etc. I'm not sure why someone would think that it would shorten the timeframe.

Not very helpful, I know, but it makes sense to me.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHow is your NOA2 waiting time?

Five month wait in average is just unacceptable.

If you think about it: It is just a non-immigration visa, and it is only good for 90 days of stay. It is not a green card. It merely allows one to come to the USA to get married.

So why it takes 5 month (8 month if you count the consular processing time) for the government to grant a alien just a 90 days of stay?

While I agree that the 5+ month wait times are totally unacceptable, the K1 visa is a non-immigrant visa in name only. Anyone coming to the US on a K1 visa is intending to immigrate and stay.

PhilippinesMedical, TB Screening, Exit country within 90 day after Medical (Manila)

Yes... that is true, USEM will go by your initial medical date is the reason for that, not the date you completed the testing.  When TB testing and or medication gets included you have to watch the initial medical date very closely.  If you do the TB treatment, I believe they will do a new medical as the initial medical will have expired by the time its completed, not sure if they charge a second fee or not for that...

I was reading too fast and didn't notice there is 8 weeks of culture involved with her husband... my oops for sure.

Biggest thing is to watch the validity date on the visa when it arrives and to be in the USA before that date expires.  It may not necessarily be 90 days, depends on how quickly the interview is done.

There was a couple a year or so ago that did not pay attention and missed the expiration day by one day... no entry.  Never heard if they had to start over or if they did a new medical and issued another visa

New medical exam will be required and YES, you'll have to pay the full SLEC fee again.  Funny thing was (in our case) that the second time my Fiancee did the exam it only took about an hour instead of all day.

PhilippinesI-485 Adjustment of status interview 1/29/13

Hi guys! We have appointment for I-485 application for Adjustment of status on the 29th of January. Anyone can give us advice or info? Just want to be ready. Thank you!

Similar to your K1 interview, bring supporting documents of your relationship and marriage.  They want to see documents supporting your AOS package.  Joint accounts, bills, wedding photos, etc.  It's pretty easy, so just relax and answer truthfully and calmly.   Good Luck!

PhilippinesReport of Marriage - 4 Years Later

After Chinook became a U.S. Citizen, she went to a Consular outreach and accomplished the following in about two hours:

1. Report of Marriage
2. Applied for dual citizenship
3. Applied for a new Philippines passport

The Philippines Consulate that has jurisdiction over Guam is the Saipan Consulate. It's safe to say that they won't be having an outreach event in the area where you live. It's my understanding that you must go through the Consulate that has jurisdiction over where you got married when you decide to report your marriage. I hope there are exceptions to that rule. If not, then maybe you can report your marriage by mail to the Saipan Consulate and then renew/amend the passport at the Consulate which has jurisdiction over where you live now.

Actually, its the other way around.  The Philippine Consulate in Guam overseas both Guam and the CNMI (Saipan).  The office in Saipan shut down a couple years back and now the Guam office goes to the CNMI as an outreach program every couple months.

PhilippinesK1 Visa and Latent TB

Hi folks,

I am new to this forum and was wondering if I can get advice from some of the members.  Let me first say that I have been searching within VJ, but still have questions.

I sent in the paperwork to an attorney for my fiance's (Philippines) K1 and she will be submitted shortly.  Everything is good, but back in 2012 she was diagnosed with latent TB and was on a regimen of medicine for 6 months.  She continues to get follow up X-rays which shows no signs of TB with the exception of a scar.  Her Dr. will provide a certification on this, but it seems like St. Lukes will not accept outside certifications.

My concern is that they will make her take sputum samples and delay things for 2 months.  I am wondering if we might be able to be proactive and have her go to St Lukes (if not the one in Ermitra, the one in Global City) as paying patient and do her X-Rays and is need be do her sputum now rather than later and since it is within St. Lukes her medical records will be there for the Dr's review during her medical exam.  Please let me know if this might be possible.

Thank you in advance.

St. Luke's Extension Clinic (SLEC) will accept outside certifications as a matter of record.  It will still be at their discrection to accept the treatment that was prescribed outside as a transfer into their own Directly Observed Treatment (DOT).  My wife's treatment outside SLEC was accepted and she transferred in and credited the months she had taken the medication.  I cannot say with certainty if the entire 6 months will be credited for your fiancee.  As for a sputum test, if the chest xray shows something then the sputum test is a matter of their procedure.  No way around that.

The only Panel Physicians approved for medical exams in the Philippines is SLEC.  An exam or parts of the exam (ie sputm, cxr) at any other clinic will not be accepted.  It has to be done at SLEC at the time of the entire Medical Exam.

PhilippinesAdvice of Parents refused.....

Wait Guys. I don't think you need Parental advice if your marriage occurs in US. This only applies if you get married in the Philippines.

My wife was 21 yrs old when i petitioned her for fiancé. No parental advice was asked. Marriage laws on where you are getting married applies. Not Philippine Law if you petitioned her for fiancé.

Good luck.

You don't need it to get married in the US.  That's correct.  However, the CFO often asks for these documents in order to proceed with the Seminar and/or to get the CFO Sticker to leave the country.  It's not a requirement for the K1 Visa process.

six7oneMalePhilippines2014-01-29 19:12:00
PhilippinesAdvice of Parents refused.....

Been a while since I researched this topic, but if I am not mistaken you technically only need one parent to sign the Parental Advice.  This gives you a 50/50 chance of convincing one of them to sign it.

For CFO, like others have said its a gamble.  Sometimes they want it, sometimes they don't even ask for it as in our case.

Philippines6 month TB treatment

i forgot to ask...

if treatment is needed,,, what will be the costs for the medicines ?

thanks :)

For US Visa Applicants there is no additional cost for DOT. We did not pay anything other that the fee for the Medical Exam. Please keep in mind that in our case, the medical exam results for K1 and K2 are valid for 6 months. Since it will expire before our Visa Interview, my Fiancee and her daughter will have to take their medical exams a second time even though my step-daughter already passed and was immunized. Hence, we have to pay for their medical exams again.

Just as an FYI, I heard that applicants for other countries have to pay an additional fee for their DOT. That sucks!

Philippines6 month TB treatment

She will have to show up every day. They use Direct Observed Therapy (DOT) where they watch her take the pills. On weekends and holidays she will be given extra pills to take when the clinic is closed. For special situations they may give her a few days of pills to take so she can travel. I took my fiancee to Boracay, Cambodia and a few other places and we were able to arrange about 15-20 days "leave" during the 6 months with pills provided when we traveled. But this is best done by letter from the petitioner.

If she misses a day, then they will add it on the end. If she misses too many they may add a month or more. She will have a card they need to sign off on for almost every day.

Something else to consider - travel to and from the clinic. Many people travel and hour or more each way. Even from Pasay it can be an hour by jeepney. So a two hour wait at the clinic becomes a 4 hour or more ordeal... DAILY. I advise you live as close to the clinic as possible.

Some other considerations -

Go with her to the clinic early on. Be nice and introduce yourself to the doctors and staff. Be friendly and let them know who you are.
Make sure she takes this seriously. You should not skip even ONCE.
Cut out all alcohol, smoking, etc during this time. The medications are hard on your body. She needs to stay healthy. Exercise.
The DOT is serious business and many people do not take it as such. They skip too many times, or they do not stay healthy. As a result at the end of the six months they can have the therapy extended.

It will be a long and hard six months. Best of luck.

My Fiancee just completed her DOT. Here are some of my observations/input in addition to Mapletree's...

Its In and Out - Go in, take medication, have card signed. Takes no more than 5 - 10 minutes in the DOT office.

Be Nice and Courteous - DOT time slots are based on progress of your treatment. Initially you will be grouped in the morning schedule. But if you are nice to them and get to know the staff, you can actually go anytime before the DOT closes. SLEC Closes at 5:00 PM. DOT Closes office closes at 4:30 PM.

Take Vitamins eat healthy - TB Medication is indeed hard on a woman's body and she needs to stay healthy indeed.

Hormonal Fluctuations - My Fiancee had flawless facial skin prior to DOT. During her treatment she developed BAD acne on her face. It also affected her menstrual cycle. She once missed her period for over 2 months and had to see a doctor who prescribed her Provera. This may or may not happen to her, but be aware of any changes to her body and get checked if you have a need to.

Sputum Tests - If its a clear day, Sputum tests are almost always conducted on the roof top. If it rains, GO EARLY and count on staying longer as it is conducted in a smaller area inside and the que is longer.

Missing A Day - As mentioned, if you miss a day it will be added on at the end. SLEC/DOT almost never closes. They did have reduced hours of operation in August due to the flood, but they were open briefly. If/When they close for a substantial reason like flooding is always a possibility. You can always call to find out if they are/will close.

Hope this helps

So sorry. It is an overwhelming task given time, and location. Let's hope that the sputum culture is negative.

Random question, is producing sputum for the culture like hocking a loogie?

More or less, Yes like hocking a loogie.

PhilippinesSo sad I need your help!!

Could you please give me details on the condo you rented? Where did you find it? How much?

Thanks for your reply..

We rented a 1 bedroom condo in one of the Robinson's Adriatico towers.  It was actually a studio converted to a 1 bedroom and we paid PHP 27,000 per month.  I found it online simply by searching for Condos in Ermita.  The results from sulit.com.ph will help, but of course you'll have to do some diligence in your selection.

Robinson's Adriatic is actually attached to the Robinson's Mall from the outside.  It's about a 5-10 minute walk to the clinic from here.  Also pedicabs ply the streets in the area.  There many other condo's in Ermita and Malate, but Adritico towers were the perfect location for us.

PhilippinesSo sad I need your help!!

They have to do it themselves otherwise if she does it at a clinic in her province she said it would take up to 20 months because they have to make sure the virus is actually gone. This is a nightmare!!

In addition, doing the DOT at SLEC will not burden you with any additional cost.  In my wife's case she did DOT and did not have to pay anything on top of the first medical exam fee.

Just a heads up, your Fiancee will have to do the medical exam again.  The first exam will have expired by then as far as the USEM is concerned.  You will have to pay for the second exam.

PhilippinesSo sad I need your help!!

Hi everyone,

I am so sad and disappointed, my fiancee just informed me about the positive result of her sputum culture which means that she will have to go through a six-month TB treatmentcrying.gif crying.gif crying.gif after waiting for two long months for the culture result.

The reason I am here posting this is because I need your help to find a place for her to stay during the treatment. I am not familiar with the area around St Lukes neither she. Any help/suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, God bless your journey and I hope nobody else has to go through this.

Sorry to hear that your fiancee will have to do DOT.  Although there will be a delay, you have to look at the positive side.  It was detected and she will be treated.

A place to stay is really dependent on the budget.  There are hotels in close proximity that have long term rates and I understand there are also dormitories/apartments in the area.  When my wife had to do her DOT I actually rented a condo nearby.  She would walk to SLEC everyday to take her medication and it was safe during the day light hours.  I know firsthand as I actually accompanied her on one of my visits.  There's a large mall and supermarket (Robinson's) in the area, as well as many food stands and smaller markets.  Not such a bad area.

PhilippinesGOT THE NOA2 HARD COPY. Whats next??

They didn't look at your I134?  Is that because you sent some info related to your I134 i.e. tax returns and/or employment verification during the initial petition? or is it I134 is not a serious requirement?  Just curios...

I'll rephrase.  They only looked at my I-134 and none of my supporting evidence (VOE, bank statetment, Pay stubs, ITR).  My guess is that my income was more than sufficient to support 2 visa recipients (K1 and K2).

The I-134 is a requirement for the interview at the USEM Manila.

six7oneMalePhilippines2014-02-25 20:38:00
PhilippinesGOT THE NOA2 HARD COPY. Whats next??

What about for the I-134?

Do I really need bank statements from an official at the bank or are the monthly statements that I receive in the mail sufficient enough? Or can I just print out all the account info from my online banking??

Call around the 4th or 5th business day to get the MNL#.  Don't forget to ask if the package was sent to the USEM.

It's up to you to follow the instructions of the I-134, but your fiance should have all the documents needed to support the information on the I-134 at the time of the interview.  Getting a letter from the Bank isn't very difficult.  I merely asked the branch manager and it was ready for me in a few days.

As evidence of resources for the I-134 I had both the letters from my Bank as well as the last 3 months of statements.  But to be honest, neither the screener nor the CO even looked at my I-134 supporting evidence.  Just the I-134.  Better to be prepared than not to have something they need at the time of the interview.

PhilippinesK-1 travel from Guam to US Mainland

I have never traveled to Guam so it's very possible CBP has rules regarding traveling with a passport even for USC.  Good to know.

My wife was required to travel with her passport no matter where she traveled in the USA until she had her green card, at least that is what CBP told us.

Guam handled in a unique way.  As a POE, all passengers from international originating flights must clear US Immigrations.  However, before proceeding onto a flight to Hawaii passengers actually clear a US Immigration check at the gate before boarding.  So Yes, the passport is needed.  For USCs, I've heard they will allow an ID and a BC but I can't confirm this.

No pre-boarding US Immigration at the gate for international destinations.  Just the Hawaii flight.

Make sure you go to the US Mainland and back via Hawaii.  Do not transit through Japan or your fiance will have a problem since she's already had her one POE.

PhilippinesShowing up at Visa interview with Fiancée

Got my NOA2 letter the other day. Does anyone know if it is to our benefit for both me and my fiancée to show up at the Visa interview? We are going to interview at the Manila, Philippines US consulate.

In my opinion it is a big benefit.  My fiancee's interview was a few minutes when I was with her as opposed to unaccompanied fiances who were at the CO window for up to 20 minutes for their interviews.  Was it required I attend?  Nope, but it sure was interesting and a great experience.

PhilippinesI-765 for K2

Seriously? An EA card for a 4 year old. It won't even speed things up for getting her SSN, for that you only need to go down with her passport and the I-94 having more than two weeks remaining and its done... no issue, but there isn't any real rush for getting the childs SSN you can wait until she has her GC not that she is required to have one, at least not until she works or is naturalized.

Maybe you can understand my confusion as the SSN guide here on VJ lists the 765 as needed to obtain an SSN. I think I will just omit the 765 altogether for our 4 year old and just wait for her to get her GC THEN get the SSN for her. A little embarrassed that I asked, but a little peace of mind is better for me. Thanks Hank.

PhilippinesI-765 for K2

You can if you want in order to get her a SSN quicker, but I wouldn't bother.

Was thinking the same thing about the SSN. Realistically, my step-daughter should at least be a GC holder or even naturalized by the time she becomes of age to work. Any other thoughts on this?

Yes, your fiance can take the CFO seminar before the Visa arrives, but would have to go back after receiving the passport back from the USEM.  The CFO stamp/sticker has to be afixed to a page in the passport.

Philippinesmy son, K2 visa, is not the biological son of my fiance

As others mentioned, Yes your son can accompany you as a K2 provided he was listed on your Fiance's I-129F petition.  Since you were never married, you have sole authority for your son even if the biological father signed the BC and your son carries the father's last name.  No marriage is the key here.  You will not have any issue bringing him to the US Embassy, or bringing him to the US with you.

Aside from the Petition and the MNL Case number you'll get, your son will be handled individually (ie. pay for his own interview, present his own DS forms, pay for his own medical, etc.).  Good luck and God Bless.

PhilippinesPost DOT Medical Exam

Ok thanks for the reply. Our son is 5, and started treatment 2 months before SLEC medical. So, even though his SLEC exam showed negative xray, first culture/sputum, he STILL had to complete DOT for the remaining 4 months. He can't produce sputum since he's so young, so he has to do what's known as gastric lavage which is an in-patient, 2-3 day procedure at St luke's other clinic (costs about 750-1000$ out of pocket). He did it once already and they require a second time at the end of treatment. The nurse assured me when I was there for a few months that he did not have to wait for the culture and could meet an appointment time a week after his last day of treatment. We'll see how that goes. There is always a plan B. Anyway, thanks again.

I hope that all turns out well. Our experiences are similar with the exception of the actual treatment. For adults, they must go in daily, take the medication witnessed by the DOT office and have their card signed. Needless to say, I had to relocate my family to Manila for 4 months just so my Fiancee could walk to SLEC everyday and swallow a pill.

Anyway, best regards and good luck with your visa experience.

PhilippinesPost DOT Medical Exam

Our son is in the same exact boat as your fiance... He finishes treatment next week. Did the pulmonary doctor or anyone at st lukes what would happen at the last day of treatment and he final sputum. Do you still have to wait 2 months for results of the culture given the last tests all being negative? Thanks. Tony

As you may already know sputum tests are done on certain days. It just happened that my Fiancee's sputum test was the week prior to her last DOT session. They took the samples for the culture during her last sputum test. After the last sputum, SLEC will do an evaluation and review the final CXRs. At that time they will inform the patient of their disposition. For my Fiancee, sputums were negative and the CXR showed improvement of the scar. So for us all we needed was to wait the 8 weeks for the culture results (will be done Nov 2). Unfortunately, SLEC will be closed so we will have to wait until next week. Good Luck and hope this helps.

PhilippinesPost DOT Medical Exam

why do they require your fiancee to continue her medication when in fact the culture is negative? and worst it was done through DOT? what kind of medications?

She had to continue treatment which was started in her Province. SLEC followed the protocol as per the "CDC Immigration Requirements for TB Screening and Treatment." You can read more HERE. Just because Sputum and Culture tests are negative at the onset of the treatment does not necessarily mean a patient is in the clear. This is why regular sputum tests are done monthly during the DOT and a final culture is take at the end of treatment. In fact, our results for the final culture should be available next week.

DOT can only be done at SLEC. It is the only facility approved for US Immigration medical screening in the Philippines. As a side note, DOT is covered under the medical exam fees we paid. I heard that it is an additional cost on top of the medical exam for immigration to other countries.

PhilippinesPost DOT Medical Exam

please note. correct me if I misunderstood. you were saying dot is for treatment of tb OR
SUSPECTED tb? after culture they will know if tb or not right? theres no more suspecious anymore? either tb or no tb. please clarify your statement.

DOT is for the treatment of TB. However, in our case my Fiancee NEVER tested positive for TB in any of her sputum or cultures. In our case, her doctor in her province prescribed the TB medication because he saw a spot in her CXR. No sputums or culture tests in province. This was 2 months prior to her having her medical exam at SLEC. When she did her medical at SLEC they saw the same spot in her CXR and instructed her to do the Sputums and Culture tests (results negative). Because she told SLEC that she was on TB medication for 2 months (again never having tested positive), SLEC's instructed her to complete the treatment which was an additional 4 months via DOT.

Our case was somewhat unique, but it has happened to others as well. I don't want to mislead anyone that if TB "suspected" they will automatically have to do DOT. In my opinion, our case was unique and handled according to the circumstances. If they see any spot in the CXR, the patient will be required to take the tests. That is a certainty. SLEC will determine everyone circumstances from the CXR and evaluation and will require tests and DOT as needed. Hope this clarifies my statement as it pertains to our case. Its not intended as a guideline that SLEC follows.

As Tahoma mentioned, DOT is "Directly Observed Therapy" which is basically medication administered daily at the St.Luke's Extension Clinic in Ermita. It is for treatment of TB or suspected TB.

I wanted to gather as much information as I can from anyone with experience. We will surely call SLEC prior to the exams to find out more, we just wish we had more to go on.

My Fiancee will undergo her post DOT medical exam in a couple of weeks. My step-daughter will have to do her medical exam again as well as her first one has passed the validity period for the K2 application. Being that these will be their second exams, what documents are they required to bring and do they need more recent Passport-sized photos? Do we need to do the online SLEC registrations again?

The SLEC website does not make any reference to second exams. From what my fiancee recalls, SLEC just instructed her to show up. Anyone have any experience with a second exam after their DOT? I want them to be prepared for their second exams and not have to run out for any required document. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance VJers.

My timeline and signature explain it.

There have only been a few of us, all from late August, which was really unexpected. Therefore I think it's safe to say that September won't come all that soon. There are so many people whose applications yet have to be processed and they filed at the beginning of August, or earlier.

The day we got our NOA2, our expected timeline (VJ's) was showing jan 17th-Jan 20-something.

Why did yours take only so short of time to file? What did you do?!?!?!!!?

why does it take longer for philippine beneficiaries to get approved? Is there a bias????

I just dont understand why some people are already getting approved? None of the philippine applicants don't......shafted!!!

Based on what? I don't think there is any bias against the philippines in terms of getting a NOA2. It is considered a high fraud country, so getting a visitor visa is next to impossible, but there doesn't seem to be a huge issue in terms of fiance visa's, and compared to other high fraud countries the process is fast (the after noa2 part that is... in the past document verification could be a nightmare but at least for now that's not being done). China and london embassy's both for different reasons can expect to wait quite a while after the NOA2 to schedule interviews and medical...

How long does it typically take to get a Manila interview? I looked on some stats and it shows the Philippines is number 2 when it comes to influx of K visa petitions next to the U.K., and South Korea.....(that was approved visa!surprisingly China wasn't on the list!) I know you have to call the appointment number there on the manila embassy web sites, but even so, how long is the wait??? I'd figure Manila would be pretty busy!

They give any consideration to active duty military? We are federal employees too and we assure they process those applications without the fear of a mortar smashing down on top of them!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSeptember approvals??? Coming?
why does it take longer for philippine beneficiaries to get approved? Is there a bias????

I just dont understand why some people are already getting approved? None of the philippine applicants don't......shafted!!!

OMG! OMG!! I went into town to do the Christmas Grocery Shopping and trying to get ready for my Petie coming on the 23rd. After I put everything away I thought I would check and see how far down Igor's List we are, when I see 122 I thought I should check the USCIS website. I made a point to only check it once a week. I almost fell to the floor! We're Approved!! Of course I can't get a hold of him, he's out doing some Christmas celebrating with friends.................YEAH!!!!!

I guess it takes hiring a lawyer to get your petition process faster huh?
