I'm so not aware about this dark and light soy sauce. Where can I find them? How will I know which is which? hehehe I'm not good in kitchen.

Dark soy sauce is the typical filipino soy sauce (datu puti, silver swan)
Light Soy sauce - kikkoman

aaaahhh...hahaha...thanks for the enlightenment. biggrin.gif

There are many Filipino recipes that you can find from the different websites. I'd like to share one of the recipes which I only learned and cooked here in US. tongue.gif

Chicken Curry Recipe (Filipino Style)

Ingredients :

• 2-3 tbsp. oil
• 3 potatoes, peeled, quartered and fried
• 1 lb. chicken, cut into serving pieces
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 large onion, quartered
• 1 tbsp. patis (fish sauce) ( In lieu of patis, I used fish broth cube.)
• 3 tbsp. curry powder
• salt and pepper
• 1 cup water
• 1 red bell pepper, cut into big squares
• 1 green bell pepper, cut into big squares
• 3 celery stalks, cut into 1-1/2" long
• 1 cup coconut milk or evaporated milk

Cooking Procedures :

1. Pan fry potatoes. Set aside.

2. In the same pan, fry chicken pieces and brown a little.

3. Add garlic and onion. Sauté for a few minutes until soft.

4. Pour in patis and season with curry powder, salt and pepper. Stir for 2 minutes.

5. Add water. Cover and bring to a boil. Lower the heat; add celery, bell peppers and fried potatoes. Simmer for 3 minutes or until half done.

6. Add milk and stir occasionally. Cook for another 7 minutes (or lesser when using evaporated milk because the liquids will curled).

7. Remove from heat. Serve hot.

PhilippinesAll Pinays in Texas...
Texas is so hot lately, it's more of dry heat. I can't stay under the sun for too long coz it feels like my skin is burning considering I used to play soccer so I am used to the hot sun. But the sun is so near compared back home and there is cool breeze in Pinas so it's like a bit suffocating for me in Texas especially when I have to get into the car which has been under the hot sun for several hours. Geez. . now I am in Canada oh the wheather here is such a good break for me coz it's cooler yet sunny too like in Texas. aside from that everything is nice in Texas.

PhilippinesSt. lukes med exam denied :(
i am sorry you have to go through this difficult process. But there is no alternate way to go thru this but to follow the protocol.

Now she was told to not go to her interview and to come in and take those tests and she will have to wait for 2 months after to get results..Is this true?? yes

Does it really take this long I feel so helpless right now.. yes, they culture the sputum specimen they will collect from her and see if it will grow positive for TB.

Do i need to call up and cancel the interview? No, the St. luke's will reschedule her interview

Does the additonal test cost more money??? I am not sure about this, she has to call St. Luke's

Is there anything i can do, attorney or something to help this situation?? none...sorry...but to wait and rebook your flight if you still can. have plan B, C and D. there is no easy way around this. You are not alone on this flight, there are other applicants who waited and are still waiting even after the interview. Don't despair. rose.gif Pray your fiance's result will be negative.

pinglocalhostess, we are currently out of town. Actually in Arkansas, it's so pretty here. So I am hoping that when we get back to Texas tom our GC is waiting for us. smile.gif If you've been reading March AOS filers, you'll see that USCIS is doing a pretty good job lately.

Why wait till your biometrics schedule? You can just go there anytime you like and just bring your letter. We did that one time and they didn't make us come back.

Jose Rizal, san antonio is so pretty too. bring your tripod, it will come very handy. smile.gif

trinidad-lohner, for K1 kasi iba ang policy for SSN. K1's just have to present the I-94,and passport. Di na nga tiningnan marriage certificate namin eh, once nasa system na nila I-94 ko nag-apply na ko SSN . For K2, k3,& K4 apply first for EAD before you can get the SSN. Wait ka na lang ng 2-4 days marereceive mo na yung NOA mo. Then you will receive the letter for your biometrics appointment. smile.gif

minang, congrats to your achievement! smile.gif

lola! (that's you trinidad-lohner biggrin.gif ) how have you been? long time no hear ha.

About your question, I have my SSN 1 month after i got my I-94, remember the officer did not attach ours on our passport when we arrived. I just sent our AOS packet last March 3 thru USPS. The Chicago office received our papers on the 5th, they cashed our check on the 12th, and today (that's 14th) I received our notice of receipts (AOS, EAD, Travel Document). Kaso may sabit,at first I insisted that my 3 y/o son needs an EAD (I-765) for his SSN but my hubby firmly believed that he does not. so in short naniwala ang gaga so without confirming it i sent our packet without the EAD application for my son. Then last week I checked VJ (ewan ko ba kung bakit di ko ginawa from the start) and stumbled upon a post re SSN for K2, K3,K4 visa holder and andun yung link for the guide. So un nga my son does need EAD for him to have a SSN! sighs... same goes for you too trinidad-lohner. so I called the SS local office and they verified even a 3 yr old boy needs an EAD before they give him a number. I made a call also to USCIS office and they told me just send my son's EAD form together with the copy of Receipt notice i received today. Hopefully wala nang sabit after that. The notice says next step is to have our biometrics taken and wait for the appointment letter. I don't know how long it will take for us to receive the EAD. This process is so confusing sobra, sayang nga di ka maclaim ni hubby sa tax nya, halos 2+ din un. So wait ka lang ng 1 week.

ToddnCezy, if that's the case Dr Arnold's secretary will most likely call you and tell you to have a second dose of MMR to complete the series before they transcribe your vaccination to your DS 3025. Yung Tdap ok na yun, once every 10 years lang yun. Go ka na lang sa health center they will give you your 2nd dose of MMR, for a cheap price lang. Mga $10-15 lang siguro un. then send the proof of your 2nd dose of MMR to the clinic biggrin.gif

toddnCezy, retract ko lang yung previous post ko. Your MMR and Tdap are already complete. No need to get the 2nd shot as i posted earlier. I was thinking about Varicella. Sorry for the confusion I caused. smile.gif

hello guys,

it's been a while.. my husband and I have difficulty on filing taxes jointly. We got married last March 2008 and I came here in the US using my K3 visa and we are on the stage of filing my AOS. We went to H & R block ( to do our taxes) and they advice my spouse to file single and just ammend it next year since we can't file jointly, it is because i am just here in the US for a month and filing jointly , a non resident alien spouse should atleast here in the US atleast three months. We need to submit our taxes this april but up to now we can't start anything. Is anyone here in Visa Journey could help us out? If my spouse file single, will it affect my AOS and be question by USCIS?
Please help us out if there is any ways we can file jointly that can't affect my AOS.

Awaiting for your prompt replies and advice. God Bless you all!

just dropping by to say hi to everyone. March na, ang bilis talaga ng panahon.

joserizal, thanks sa tips. i'll take note of that. I hate the weather lately kasi laging may sipon kami. or Is it because of the pollens? either way getting sick is bothersome, super.

ToddnCezy, usually minimum of one month interval ang vaccines. So you might be due to have your 2nd dose already.

God bless everyone!

hmmm updates... I have my SSN now after the delay of my I-94. It was not stapled to my passport when I arrived, so I went to Homeland office to get one for me and my son. So now I have my SSN card we opened a joint bank account yesterday, and like nbfsb I have been reviewing too, I might apply for driver's license once I had my exams done (thanks minang for the tip), and I'm still waiting for my hubby's ITR to complete our AOS papers. So far that's it. I hope all is well with the rest of the gang. wink.gif

And my other question is I wont be able to do the xray so will they not issue the visa until I can??

You can have your Xray during your 2nd/3rd trimester, they will put an abdominal shield around you to protect the baby. It will not have any affect on your baby on that time and with the shield.

Hey guys, after reading all your posts I am more excited now to go to Canada. But I need some help (to the OP sorry I post this in your thread). I'm going to Edmonton this coming June 19 for my sis wedding, bought tickets already, and getting excited for the trip. My family have plans of taking us to Jasper. My dilemma is I have my green card now, but my son's AOS is still pending. Do I still have to get my son (3 y/o) a temporary visa to visit Canada? Or can I just show them the USCIS receipt letter of my son's AOS application? thanks for any input.

Philippinestb vaccine (BCG)
QUOTE (jamesNrei @ Sep 28 2008, 01:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
BCG vaccines are given routinely to all newborns here in the Philippines. However if your wife's family did not have access to health care while she was young there is a chance that she was not given the shot. Your wife should ask her mother/ care giver if she was given any vaccines when she was an infant. Scar may be seen on upper arms or on buttocks, it may be so subtle that she cannot see it. Better ask her caregiver.

For the medical exam she will have an XRay. Based on the Xray findings she will be either cleared or for further evaluation (sputum collection) or for treatment. She will not be given a BCG vaccine.

PhilippinesVisa Interview Appointment
May I suggest you pay for your document verification (DV) ASAP in metrobank and inform Delbros ASAP and ask for an update. So that once you have decided to schedule your interview your DV is already being processed by the NSO. And luckily during your interwiew your DV is with the embassy already. By doing so you will have your visa within 3 days after interview, that's if you are complete with all the papers aside from the DV. Good luck!

PhilippinesTuberculin Test, How Many Days?
QUOTE (mehere! @ Oct 2 2008, 05:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi everyone! just wanna if, after TUBERCULIN Test was given to the child, how may days will it takes for SLEC to read the result. Will they check in on the next day or the 3rd day after the test was given? just wanna know, coz we're having our medical wednesday& i'm hoping that we could finish friday, since SLEC is closed on weekends. i just want to make sure that we have enough time for the medical. How many blocks away is Cherry Blossoms Hotel from SLEC? can i check-in, in the morning like 8:30am? coz i'm planning upon arrival from the airport to drop our things at the hotel & proceed with the medical.

Tanx in advance for ur replies! good.gif

tuberculin skin test (TST) is read 48-72 hours after it was administered. You have to consider the timing. Upon interpretation of the skin test and it turned out positive ,>10 mm, your child will have a Chest ray on that day. You will be asked to come again on the next day for the Xray result. If the Chest Xray turned out to be normal, your child will have the vaccines.

So in your case, If you go on Wed and your child had his/her TST done around noon, he/she will come back fri noon for the interpretation, pray hard it's negative so your child will have the vaccine on Fri and you all can go home (that's if you had your vaccine on Thurs too). If it comes to worst ,it turned positive you will end up coming back on Monday for the Chest XRay result and vaccines.

I advice you to come early to the center so your child can have the skin test early on the day. or better have the medical on Mon/Tues instead.

PhilippinesAbout the medical exam
But do you think when they will find the lump my visa interview will not be delayed?
[/quote]

some medical examiner do not perform a very complete physical exam. She might not examine your breasts so there maybe a chance you can get off with that.

But if you are too worried about it, go to a Surgeon and ask for a medical certificate. It can be some form of breast mass that does not need an excision. However this may be troublesome coz the surgeon might ask you to have breast ultrasound, or mammogram, or whatever test they can think of. Maybe you can just try your luck? it is not infectious anyway, and you won't be a medical threat to the US. If the examiner find out you have breast mass she might just ask you to get medical certificate, or note on your medical paper that you have to be seen once you are in US, or absolutely nothing. They will not deny you bec of breast lump.

don't worry. they won't put any probe inside you. If you have a period you can just delay your medical exam 3 days after the last day of your period. The medical examiner won't see you if you have your monthly period and will ask you to come back which is a hassle.

have you taken all the steps for USMLE (medical licensing exam)? Some Residency program does not sponsor visa (J1/H1) for IMG's (international medical graduates) that's why they ask for your visa status. If you will be on IR/CR visa they won't have a problem with that, since you will eventually have green card.

if he is on steroids (for his asthma) for a long time already, he will be immunocompromised (immune system is down) and his tuberculin skin test will turn out negative (which is good!). He will be fine, his pedia is right. Just continue his medications as prescribed, avoid dusts. There is nothing to fret about . Asthma is not part of the list of NO NO's for visa.
