CanadaPolice certificate

Absolute newbie question here : why is that needed? Im applying for a K1 visa soon (I am the canadian beneficiary): do I need one of those?

(Sorry, this whole process is so confusing and overwhelming!)

Don't be sorry! Just read the Guides link posted at the top. Read, then re-read, then re-read again and read everything on these forms that you can. It will all start coming together. But yeah, you will need a police certificate. If you go to RCMP they will fingerprint you etc. But you don't need to be fingerprinted if you haven't been convicted of a crime. I went to Comissionaires and got my CPIC for 40 bucks. I got the results mailed to me in 3 days. It was very fast. You can also pick it up from their office if you'd rather do that. I believe you will need a police certificate from every country you've lived in since the age of 16 (if you've lived in that country for 6 months or more). I could be wrong on the 6 months part, it may be a year.

CanadaPolice certificate

It shouldn't matter what name it's in as long as that is your current legal name. You were supposed to inform them of any other names you have gone by, if I remember correctly.

Ok good, and yeah I did give them my maiden name.

Does it matter that it doesn't have my maiden name on it?

So, I went to commissionaires to get my police criminal record check. I gave him my maiden name as well and I saw him enter it in the computer. A couple days later I received this in the mail. It lists my current name but not my maiden name. Is this ok?

CanadaLoomis confirmation number
When you paid the visa fee online, you had to register as to which Loomis office you wanted to pick your documents up at. After your interview, your waybill number will show up on that page after you log in. You need that waybill number to pick up your passport.

Canadascan help please :)
I don't know about the CR-1. But for the K-1 interview they keep the original anyhow.
JensJrny2RayFemaleCanada2013-03-04 13:59:00
CanadaIs Petitioner's Birth Certificate Required for Interview?
No, you don't need the petitioner's birth certificate. They will have already sent in a copy in the original packet and they will have that. They will give you a checklist for packet 3, just bring what they ask you to bring.

CanadaNew Potential Land Border Delays

Found the answer to my question:

http://www.visajourn...role-questions/

Took a lot of searching but seems like I can't use or apply for NEXUS while having AP and have to wait until I have my greencard. That information was given by a VJ member who was a former border agent so am pretty sure it's valid. That's frustrating. I guess it makes sense but still! :(

Keep in mind that that thread is over 4 years old and the rules have changed somewhat. I would still call the American side to get current information.

CanadaNew Potential Land Border Delays

So my brother linked this article to me today:
http://www.theprovin...5866/story.html

Someone in the article said land crossings could spike to 4 hours! AGH! That is SO not okay. I am still in the process of waiting for AP and was wondering, am I eligible to apply for a Nexus pass with Advance Parole? Do I need to wait on my AOS approval/greencard? Do I need to wait till I have ROC/permanent green card? Ideally I'd like to get it ASAP as soon as I have AP. The land crossings near where I live in BC on weekends can spike to over an hour routinely during peak hours when we'd have to cross and if it gets worse I'd really really like to avoid that.

Any idea?? I searched VJ and couldn't find an answer RE AP and Nexus.

I would call the Canadian passport people and ask them if you're eligible. I'm sure there's an information line.

Canadaquestion about currency transfer Canada/USA

I am just wondering how I would go about transferring my money from my Canadian bank account when I move to the USA. I will have sold my house and will have the money from that as well as whatever else I am bringing from other accounts.

How do people do this?

Thank you

I haven't scrolled down, so not sure if someone mentioned this, but get a Royal Bank account and then get a RBC USA account. You can manage your money online and have all your accounts linked so you can easily transfer money with no waiting periods. Just give them a call and they'll hook you up. I should add, you do NOT have to have a SSN to do this. I just did it last week, and I'm planning to move at the end of the month.

CanadaVisa Interview
I would probably arrange for the day off of school. You will be mostly waiting and will be at/in the embassy for at least 2 hours. Then factor in travel time (transit/car), depending where you are driving from. I had a 10am appointment, I got there around 9:30ish - waited almost a half hour outside for the security checks etc, and left the embassy around 12:15pm.

CanadaMedical Exams (Montreal Immigrant Visa)

I found solid answers to what we (myself and 2 kids) needed specifically by calling the nurse at the office. I told her what we had or didn't have and she filled in all the blanks for me.

Dr. Cheema's office only does communication by e-mail and it can be spotty. The TDap can probably be given to you at a walk in clinic or at a pharmacy. (I got mine done at Save On Foods pharmacy).

Just make sure to bring all your records of your vaccinations to your appointment at Dr. Cheema's. If you don't have them, you can get titers (blood tests) to show immunity or you can get the vaccines done over again.

CanadaToronto Police Clearance Letter

My wife opened the envelope today. Below is what is written on the clearance letter:

"Please be advised that a search of National Criminal Records repository maintained by the RCMP did not identify any records for a person with the name and date of birth as indicated above.

Positive identification that a criminal record may or may not exist at the National Criminal Records repository can only be confirmed by fingerprint comparison."

Does that last statement mean she should have been been fingerprinted? The way that statement is written makes it sound like they are saying the only way they can truly know if she doesn't have a criminal record is through a fingerprint check. Did anyone else have this statement on their clearance letter?

Yes my statement said that too, you are good to go!

It means Police Reference Check Program (I just googled it). It's fine to open it. In fact, she should open it to double check her name is spelled correctly etc.

CanadaSO CLOSE!

Does anyone know roughly how much time it takes for the Vancouver consulate to receive my package from NVC and then to start processing it? I have all the forms and everything ready, but do you know if the vancouver consulate will fax the forms instead of mail? And how soon can you get an interview date?
Thanks!
<getting quite excited!>

It takes about a week to receive it and enter it into their system. If you have a case number from NVC, e-mail them and they will e-mail you packet 3 and you can fax or scan/e-mail all your required documents to them and then they will e-mail packet 4 to you. (instructions for your interview). You can see in my signature the time frame of things for the Vancouver consulate.

Customer number? Wouldn't that just be your SIN number? You could call the number but I wouldn't give them out any information unless you're sure it's absolutely legit. Or you could ask them to send their request for what they want in writing.

CanadaVaccine documentation coversheet

I called them today and as soon as I mentioned the worksheet, the person on the other side of the line interrupted and said "it's fine, everything is fine, that's how they want us to fill them out" I said are you sure? because it says "insufficient time interval" and she reassured me that it's fine. I already have made an appointment with my family doctor, and I am contemplating whether or not I should go in and get another shot and take a note to the interview. Should I do it? I just want things to go as smoothly as possible.

I believe you're supposed to have a tetanus shot every ten years. Seriously everything is totally fine. The receptionist told me not to worry about the insufficient time interval thing, and I was completely fine at my interview. They would not have given you a sealed envelope if you were not fine.

CanadaVaccine documentation coversheet

Hi folks,

I just had my medical done, when I got the results and looked over the vaccination documentation worksheet, I noticed that the "insufficient time interval" is checked off for tetnus, and at the bottom of the form, "vaccine history incomplete" and "may be eligible for blanket waiver" is checked off as well. Why would he check off "insufficient time interval" for my tetnus? I don't get it

Do I need to do something? get something done? please enlighten me, thanks

That's just the copy for your records. I believe mine said the same thing, but they said not to worry. As long as you got your sealed envelope you should be good to go. Did they tell you that you were missing vaccines? If not, you're fine.

CanadaWaiting for package 4

Hi!
We received our package 3 on the 20th of March and faxed our checklist & ds230 on the same day. We have been waiting since for package 4.
Couple questions:
-Can we go ahead and book our interview without having yet received package 4?
-do they email/fax package 4?
Thanks!

E-mail the Vancouver consulate with your case number in the subject line and ask for packet 4 to be e-mailed to you. I do not believe they are open to the public or answer inquiries on the last Wednesday of the month, so you may hear from them Monday. They will e-mail you packet 4 if you have been communicating via e-mail.

CanadaTD or RBC?

Thank you everyone for your time. I just realized I am as well nowhere near a TD or RBC atm. But I would really only use them for cash when I am visiting in Canada so I guess it doesn't matter all that much.

I guess my other option would be to transfer everything in the US and get a no foreign transaction fee credit card...

RBC USA is online only, so it doesn't matter where you live.

I haven't put my RBC USA account into good use yet, but I have it all set up online on one page: my Canadian and USA accounts. I can transfer between them easily.

If you are doing your interview at the Vancouver consulate you will probably be going to see Dr. Cheema. http://www.drcheema.ca/

You can find what you need here according to your age bracket.

It's not the same! Where's the milky chocolate on the inside?

I should add, the toys in Canada just aren't the same as they used to be; they've now branded them with Hotwheels and Barbie, whereas before they were more gender neutral and in my eyes, more fun.

CanadaMoving back to canada after K-1 Visa in USA

I'm not too sure what all the steps you need to do are but you probably have to contact USCIS. You can move back as you are still a Canadian citizen with a Canadian passport so you do have a right to return to Canada.

Canadaclosing bank accounts?credit cards?

I kept my Royal Bank account open and then opened an RBC USA account and I transfer money between the two easily and pay bills. My BMO credit card I kept open with a USA address no problems, as well as my VanCity visa. I have a PC bank account and card that I just kept open with my mom's address attached to it.

CanadaCashing Canadian Bank Checks In The US

When I lived in Canada, my fiance sent me a couple of cheques. My account was/is with Royal Bank and while they did it, they said that I should use some other method as they could hold it etc. I did get exchange rate on it, it was fairly negligible as the exchange rates were similar. Anyway, we stopped doing cheques and used our Paypal accounts and then I would just withdraw the amount to my bank account. We found that to be easy. Instead of a cheque, it might be easier for your relatives to send an international money order or to do the Paypal thing. With Paypal it doesn't cost them anything to send money.

CanadaA Question About Customs

I'm going to try and get a school enrollment for after my trip, Along with my cellphone bills and proof of living with my parents, Along with my previous tickets from my last visit showing that I returned on time. How much should one pack for a 2 month stay without looking suspicious I was given a hard time because I brought a bunch of luggage..

School ties are good because when they ask what do you do, you can say "I'm a student". For a two month stay, two big suitcases should be fine? I'm assuming you'll be doing laundry ;). I think you'll be fine. Answer their questions honestly and never give more information than they ask for and always give direct eye contact. You're not doing anything wrong, so don't give them the impression that you're trying to get away with something.

That being said, every border guard is different and it can be at their discretion to let you in or not.

CanadaA Question About Customs

I've only visited her once before, And that was during April when I was over there for 3 weeks. Like I said in my previous post I plan on going back this july. I was pulled into secondary on my first trip "The one in April" And that trip has been my only time in the US. I guess that might be my only option then, I might try going for 4 weeks and see how that turns out. I plan on bringing stronger ties when I go and I probably will since i've most likely been flagged. Do they usually tell you if you've been flagged or not?

If that was your very first trip to the USA, it's no wonder you were pulled into secondary. My fiance's first entry into Canada, he was pulled into secondary and asked questions etc. though he wasn't fingerprinted. They just want to have information in their system so that next time you enter they can see if the information you give them is consistent with what they have on record.

A round trip ticket is definitely a place to start as it shows you plan on returning. You live with your parents and that can be a tie to Canada too as you have family.

JensJrny2RayFemaleCanada2013-05-09 10:30:00
CanadaA Question About Customs

I think basically you will be counting on the discretion of the border guard. They will probably see that you did not stay very long your last trip and that may help you. But being unemployed and not in school, you will most likely be pulled into secondary. The reason being, is that because you have no ties, you may overstay. They will probably ask how much money you have on you because how will you be able to support yourself for two months? Worst case scenario, you will be denied. Can your gf come and visit you instead?

By the time I get all my stuff widdled down I'm sure I can fit it into a 10ft truck.  12 mpg! WOOT!  Haha... but unless gas costs us more than $1000 it's cheaper than the uhaul pod things.

But we're only driving 18hrs too.... Through Montana, Wyoming and Colorado.

12mpg! We calculated that we got 9mpg and we drove from Washington state to Maryland. I did love the journey though.
