K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMay 2012 Filers

Hey all

Just stopping by - thanks to those who replied to me before, it was a while back now though so won't try and find it, but did read! Sk8rPatty and Pinkrlion, thanks :)

Congrats to everyone who is getting approved, I can't believe how quickly it all started happening! So happy Vermont are working fast again.

Unfortunately I'm still waiting, really disheartened since there's quite a few people now approved with the same NOA1 date as us, and after, but I guess there's nothing to do but keep waiting. Everyday I hope my fiance will tell me he got the text as I try not to keep checking the site myself! I'm going to visit him for Christmas so at least I have that to look forward to for now though :)

Again I'm sorry for not being more active here, but I'm hoping for the best for everyone always!

Lucy x

I'm sure you'll be approved any day now, just in time for Christmas hopefully. Have a lovely time with your man!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsk1 Application Rejection

Hi I thought I'd post and update on my "Classification Sought" problem. Well we sent in the i-129F for the 3rd time and THEY ACCEPTED IT! Now we will wait for the NOA1. The only thing we changed in the package was beside OTHER on the G325A we had K1...We changed it to 1-129F. Thanks to those who suggested it. Although I know other people didn't have a problem with K1...at least we are on the road now! Thanks

Glad to hear! Now you can update your timeline! Also instead of Texas Service Centre, please update to California Service Centre! :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsk1 Application Rejection
If they keep using the words "classification sought", it sounds like that USCIS can't determine what you are applying for. Maybe something is missing on the form, the wrong words are used etc. All of my research on "classification sought" refers to a particular type of visa, ie: they can't determine what classification to file your application under. Something is missing. I would post the exact wording of the letter.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports24 Days makes 1 Year!!! THAT SUCKS

The process does take a long time, but as the previous poster said, you can visit (usually) during this process. However, you have a date for your interview which is great - that means you're near the end of your wait. When people say "USCIS, the gov't etc." don't know what it's like to be apart from their loved ones..." I think that is being presumptuous as these people are not just robots stamping and filing papers, they are human beings too with families and friends and we don't know their personal experiences.

Also, all in all, it was less than 6 months from when you filed, to when you got your NOA2. Some people waited a year or more just in that process alone! So, you're right on schedule! Congratulations on your NOA2, I hope the interview process is smooth!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJuly Filers!!!!

Congratulations - but it makes no sense. Your NOA1 date is just two weeks before ours and we still haven't had our NOA2. I just don't know what's happening with our group of people stuck in limbo here. We can't do a service request as it keeps telling us that it's in the timeframe because the damn USCIS site hasn't been updated since 31 Dec. This is so very frustrating.

P.S. Please can you update your timeline - thanks. It would be very useful for us to know your timings as you were in the US when you got your NOA2.

Not all cases are processed by the same adjudicator and every case is different. At least you know it will be coming soon, so you can start to get papers and all that you need in order so that the next steps are quick.

My NOA-1 date was July 12. My NOA2 was Dec. 31 and my interview was Feb. 14! (approved pending proper CPIC showing maiden name). I got an e-mail on Friday night/Saturday morning that my visa was processed and on its way to Loomis (a half hour away from the consulate).

Thanks everyone for the wishes.
Waiting together with friends on visajourney.com helped a lot in the wait.

How to know when the K1 Doc goes to NVC and later to consulate?
Will there be email?

Ummm what? You've been waiting 4 months and you're already calling. I find that a waste of resources and incredibly impatient/selfish. There are thousands and thousands of files to process, it's such a travesty that your petition hasn't been approved after a couple months... Oh noes someone call the president!!! 5 month wait time!!!?!?!111

Also from past times given to people, it seems that they are just slow to update the date and they are actually working on 2 weeks to a month after that date, which would be fitting with the dates of approvals seen on igors.

While 4 months is not really that long compared to us Vermont filers; to the poster it is. There's no need to be nasty. I am becoming more encouraged with Vermont speeding up, I must add.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWe're both in tears over this. Please help. I can't be without her.

Sorry you've had such a hard time. I'm not taking your negative vibe though, I don't need that.
Just because you've had a tough time and all of these wonderful people have had a tough time does not mean that a tough time should be the modus operandi, that's a copout and I don't operate that way.

I'm hoping that this all goes well. I'm consulting an attorney in the morning. Thanks for posting.

I'm sorry if it sounds negative but Ms.Hogan has it spot on. An attorney can give you advice, but frankly your process is going to take a heck of a lot longer with an attorney, and a heck of a lot more money.

The immigration process is time consuming. There is just no way to get around that.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWe're both in tears over this. Please help. I can't be without her.

I just don't think there is really a way around being separated for a while. Like others have said, she could stay in the U.S. as long as Canadians can normally stay without a visa, but then she would still have to go back to Canada after that and finish the visa process there. Could you maybe afford to get her a little apartment in Canada until she gets her visa?

Yes, that is what I was thinking also. I mean, technically she COULD stay in the US as Canadians are allowed to for up to 6 months in a calendar year, but by having zero ties to Canada (no place to live, no job) it is highly unlikely they will even allow her across the border.

They do test for HIV.

It depends on the country. In Canada they don't test for HIV for the K1. They also do not administer drug tests.

CanadaDr. Gulzar Cheema - medical review
My medical was at 8:45am. I live in Abbotsford and it took just over an hour to get there as it is in the North Surrey/Delta area. The staff is very professional and they know what they're doing.

You will need to bring a letter from the consulate with your case number on it. I just printed off my e-mail. You will also need your passport, 1 2x2 passport photo and proof of all your vaccinations which they will take copies of. I was complimented for having everything all organized.

One of the office assistants will take your height and weight and Dr. Cheema will test your eyes, look in your throat/ears/eyes. He will ask you the basic questions: any history of heart disease/diabetes/mental illness/drugs etc., are you on medication...all the basics. Then if you're female (I don't know what the procedure is for men), they ask you to pull down your pants/undies to your mid-thigh and while a female assistant is in the room, he'll feel your abdomen and check for lumps in your armpits. It was all very quick and I almost felt like he was just going through the motions and ticking off his checklist as it was very fast. Oh yes, you'll get your blood pressure taken too.

After you pay the fee (275$, cash or debit only) at the front desk, you'll get the two requisitions for your blood test and chest x-ray. The building for those two is about 5 or so minutes up the road from the Dr's office. Parking is pretty competitive but it's free. The X-Ray clinic is on the first floor and my wait was less than 5 minutes. You'll get a smock to put on and they ask you to remove everything above the waist and you can bring your purse in to the X-Ray room. Piercings are fine (nipples, belly-button), just no necklaces and if you have long hair they'll ask if you can tie it back. It's quick and they double check that they got a good one before you can leave.

BC bio-labs are on the 2nd floor and if you're mid-morning expect around a half hour wait or so. Just remember to take a number from the machine as soon as you get in the door and then you can wait inside their smallish waiting room or out in the hall. They're very nice there and then I was done.

Dr. Cheema's office said I can pick up my results after 4:30pm the following day and their office is open until 6pm.

My only complaint about their office is their communication is pretty sporadic and a tad bit unprofessional. This probably comes from the fact that I do a lot of business e-mails and I'm always typing in full sentences etc. They're more likely to respond to your e-mail if you say you have an interview set up at the consulate. I would state the date of your interview and give them a time of when you'd like your medical exam. I asked to have mine on the 12th in the morning and they accommodated me.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me or ask in this thread. Cheers!

CanadaA little impatient!!

It amazes me how easily people give horrible and inaccurate advice yet sound so confident doing it.

Exactly, it can be frustrating. I have crossed the border about 3 times after we filed for the I-129F. Only once did a border guard even mention the petition, (he saw it on the computer) but it was never a problem.

Canadamoving my belongings on a K1 visa

Actually, once you have been approved and have the K-1 Visa, your stuff can go. There is a form the movers require with copies of your Visa, but your stuff can indeed go ahead of you.

Can someone else back this up? Everything I have read and researched says that even though you're approved and have your visa, your stuff cannot go ahead of you. It can go at the same time or after, but not before.

CanadaMoving furniture... Boxes full of stuff from Canada to U.S

I used Uhaul from NS to DC (side trip to RI) Ensure you check over the Uhaul very well--I had a newer truck, but the 1 complaint about Uhaul is they do not maintain their trucks that well, so look over the fluid levels and to help out that gas MPG--the tire pressure

Good tips! That is one thing I'm wary of is their maintenance. The UHaul dealer has good reviews but for sure I will tell my fiance to check it all over before he leaves the lot, if there's any problems immediately we'll be headed back that way anyway on our trip. NS to DC is a long haul for sure!

I'll be doing a one way trip with a UHaul. I live in a border town so my fiance is going to go pick one up in the USA drive it back to Canada and then we're gonna pack up and drive across the USA. It's going to be about 1200 including tax, insurance etc. It'll be about a 5 day trip. With a cat. An adventure really.

CanadaDress Code for an Interview( winter)

Hello ,
My interview is on Monday. Anyone who just resently had an interview in Montreal( winter ).Anyone, Suggestion what to wear in this weather.

C'mon! You're Canadian and you don't know what to wear in the winter?! ;)

I don't know if Montreal makes you wait outside for a spell before going in the building, but Vancouver does. So yeah, I'd suggest a coat if it's cold.

Everyone else I saw in the consulate was dressed nicely but not over the top. Business casual I guess.

Canada2012 Canadian Applicants Thread

Hi everyone!

We met online in chat, did that for over a year, met and the rest is history :) I'm really looking forward to the day that I just be with him all the time, even though flights can add up we try and see each other at least once every month or 1.5 months. It makes waiting a little bit easier, I always have a next visit to count down too. :)

Its nice to see lots of people from Alberta, my home province! I'm an Albertan living in Ontario.

I'm from BC, and my fiance is from the DC area also! We try to see each other every few months, but our finances are limited. Our journey is almost over, just need one more paper and I'm done!

CanadaWhich birth certificate is required?
You need the long form showing both parents' names, if known. You need to bring your original certificate to the consulate and a photocopy. They will keep the photocopy.

CanadaVaccines
If you had the chickenpox, just go get your titre test done for it. That will show immunity.

CanadaInterview done 2 weeks ago but missing Canada police clearance

Hello everyone,
We had our interview two weeks ago for F3 visa in Montreal. I wished I signed up here and get more info before the interview. I relied on NVC checklist which stated I have all the required documents. I also looked at the Montreal checklists and did not say that a police clearance is good for 1 yr. My Canadian police clearance was over a year old. During the Interview the consular officer says everything looks great and gave me 221g form with a note " send 3 passport and your recent police clearance". I sent it through Loomis/DHL last week and was received using ref # that was supposed to be for return of my passport if it was approved from interview. I called CSC phone contact about the mailing address and they said its 1155 rue St Alexandre. I said the forms said 315 Place d'Youville but she insist it's 1155 rue St Alexandre where I went for my interview. The phone rep also says that the reference number is also good from Montreal to me. I'm just not happy with her answer and they are close today to get another rep. I have three questions/concerns. How long you think I will have wait to get my passport back w/visa? (will I end up in AP?). Do I have to get another reference # for the return of my passport or Montreal will use the same ones I set up before the interview? Will my passport be send to their mail processing centre in another address? Thanks in advance for your response!

The reference number stays the same, it's the number that you get when you register on the website to set up your interview etc. I have to do the exact same thing as you. They told me that once they receive it, it will be 3 to 5 business days and I will have my visa, but she gave me the same letter and yes you would send it to the address that is on that form.

Also note that today is a holiday for the US, so the consulate will not be open today and I know Montreal processes a bit slower but you should not be forever in AP waiting.

CanadaNOA2 approved! What is next?
About a week after receiving your NOA2, you can call the NVC to get your case number. Wait about another week then e-mail the Vancouver consulate (Vancouverk@state.gov) with your case number in the subject line. Tell them you are ready to receive packet 3 and they will e-mail it to you. Follow all the instructions (you seem to have all the documents ready anyway), then FAX or scan/e-mail them the forms they need. Once you do that, they will e-mail you packet 4. Once you pay the fee online and set up your interview date you can then e-mail Dr. Cheema in Surrey/Delta. Tell them you have your interview date, give them your case number and they will arrange your appointment. You can only e-mail Dr. Cheema. If you don't hear from them within a day e-mail them again.

Dr. Cheema is now the Dr. you will need to see for your medical exam. Once you are finished your exam you will be able to pick up the results the following day after 4pm.

The interview process at the consulate is very easy, the longest part is the waiting. The actual interview process is a breeze.

Any questions? You can message me.

CanadaPolice certificate
A police certificate is easily obtained especially through Commissionaires and it only takes a few business days. I got mine right after I received the NOA2, but it doesn't hurt to be proactive by a month or so.

CanadaPolice certificate

Reading this post today, I had a moment of panic because I went to get my check today and she used my maiden name and my married name only.

It took me a few minutes before I realized I’ve only ever had my maiden name and new married name. :bonk:

Clearly I need more sleep.

The commissionaire wanted to make sure the certificate has both last names so she input it as FIRST, MIDDLE, MAIDEN MARRIED. She was concerned that if we put it in the system as MARRIED (MAIDEN) the certificate wouldn’t show both. We’ll see what it looks like on Monday or Tuesday.

I'm glad she knew what to do. The guy at my commissionaires seemed baffled by the whole maiden name request.
JensJrny2RayFemaleCanada2013-03-02 19:30:00
CanadaPolice certificate

Mine has my current married name, my maiden name, and my previous married name. They asked me for all prior names used, I listed them, they included them in the report. If I had seen that particular question of yours previously I would have mentioned that. Sorry.

Yeah Commissionaires tried to tell me that that is just how they come, and I said that I didn't care how he did it, but I NEED my maiden name on there! Put it in brackets, anything! I should mention that the consul did say that if I had the request that listed my maiden name on it along with the certificate they would have accepted that too.
JensJrny2RayFemaleCanada2013-02-19 12:18:00
CanadaPolice certificate
Just bumping up this thread. I went for my K1 interview today and everything went swimmingly except for one hiccup. This CPIC did not have my maiden name on it. I went back to Commissionaires and he tried to tell me that's just how they come. I said well that's impossible because the US consulate told me I HAVE to have my maiden name listed on it. Anyway, he is ordering a new one with my maiden name in brackets beside my current last name.

HINT: I was told if I had the print-out with me that listed my maiden name as being part of the search they would accept that. Of course I didn't have it. BUT if you are a divorced woman with a previous last name, have the Commissionaires print out the search requisition so that you can put it WITH your police certificate just in case they don't list your previous last name on it.
JensJrny2RayFemaleCanada2013-02-15 02:07:00
CanadaPolice certificate

Absolute newbie question here : why is that needed? Im applying for a K1 visa soon (I am the canadian beneficiary): do I need one of those?

(Sorry, this whole process is so confusing and overwhelming!)

Don't be sorry! Just read the Guides link posted at the top. Read, then re-read, then re-read again and read everything on these forms that you can. It will all start coming together. But yeah, you will need a police certificate. If you go to RCMP they will fingerprint you etc. But you don't need to be fingerprinted if you haven't been convicted of a crime. I went to Comissionaires and got my CPIC for 40 bucks. I got the results mailed to me in 3 days. It was very fast. You can also pick it up from their office if you'd rather do that. I believe you will need a police certificate from every country you've lived in since the age of 16 (if you've lived in that country for 6 months or more). I could be wrong on the 6 months part, it may be a year.
