CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice. My husband won't be getting employment medical insurance until October when it kicks in. I just found out I'm pregnant! I want to get it verified by a clinic, and I was thinking of using Planned Parenthood. Am I allowed to use their services? I guess I want to get confirmation first that I am pregnant and I will need to see a Dr. before my husband gets insurance. Is PP considered government assistance?

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

Well, i got a bit scared with the morning sickness. I knew i'd prolly get sick but i was EXTREMELY sick for 24 hours non stop. could not even keep water down. my dr said mebbie i caught a bug and to go to the walk in so i did. turned out i'm not sick with a virus, however somehow i got a UTI, so they gave me some meds for that and some anti nausea stuff. It seems i'm one of the few women who get this bad with nausea. I was in pain from throwing up so much like every hour or 2 with like no sleep i was exhausted and so worried :( Not to mention i could not keep vitamins down or my thyroid meds. i almost made the poor receptionist cry at the clinic cuz i was crying i was so scared :(

today i feel better..i just seem to be really prone to gassiness and bloating i guess. and i finally got sleep cuz the meds they gave me make me sleepy. that prolly helped a ton.

So today, we are going to our brother / sister in laws. they will be the first ones we tell and the only ones for a while. :) should be fun to see Laura's reaction..lol i just know shes going to scream! They are making corn beef and cabbage etc. and i'm hoping i can eat at least a bit of the beef. i seem to be having a meat aversion at least to looking at uncooked meat and trying to cook it.

So i have to ask, did any of your husbands change at all ? I mean my hubby is always loving but OMG hes uber lovey this week ( not that i mind at all) :) and he keeps saying i'm even sexier now that i'm pregnant Posted Image and yes i'm completely blushing in real life but just WOW. its adorable and cute, but i'm walking around stores and stuff completely red faced from blushing so much LOL. I"m not used to this at all Posted Image

Enjoy all that attention! :luv:

You need 2 passport photos for your interview and 1 for your medical.

I should add that it doesn't matter if you get extra since you'll need them for your later AOS, EAD and AP applications anyway. Remember to make sure they are the correct size (2x2)

Anyone have any issues reporting today? I didn't get a call back, and their mailbox was full in the afternoon/early evening.

That is strange, they have been calling me back without fail.

Oh man..They called me at 7:50AM EST on Wednesday! Who calls that early? So I called back twice and left messages to call in my report. He calls me back and tells me that my reports are due Friday and to call back then....why can't I just do my report with him on the Wednesday?! Makes no sense.

I call every two weeks on Friday. They can't process your report any earlier and your report is for a specific period of time. When I call I ask for someone to call me back as soon as possible and sometimes I'll say "I need someone to call me before 2pm as I have an appointment" or something like that. They don't seem to be as diligent until you actually are really "ready and able" to look for work, so I wouldn't sweat it if your report is a little late in the meantime.

Question:

I am receiving EI now, and am also pregnant. Would I also qualify to apply for maternity benefits 8 weeks before my due date as my last day of employment was in March 2013?

How are you getting the money out of the RBC account?  I used it to pay bills with NVC and it was great but when I tried to use the bank machine to get money I couldn't get access to anything.  I have a lot of money (to me) to transfer down but I don't want to have difficulty getting access to it to buy a hiouse when I get there.  There is no bricks and mortar RBC in the area I am going to for sure.

There are no brick and mortar RBC USA banks anymore. You can use PNC bank machines though with your RBC USA debit/visa card to get cash out.

I try to call in the morning on Fridays if they don't call me by the afternoon, I call again and give them a deadline like "Could you please call before 2, as I may not be able to answer my phone after that time".

I phoned today. They said that my claim officially starts after they get your EAD so basically it's my 2 week waiting period (even though I've been waiting 3 months) and then next report I'll be getting some money.

Does anyone recall how soon after they faxed their EAD card that they started receiving money?

I would call the EI information line ASAP and ask them. I can't remember how long you have to apply after your last day of employment. It's usually wisest to do it as soon as possible after your last day.

Ok, sorry about that. I have a hard time seeing beyond my own situation sometimes ;) As long as you have your EAD you're good then!

You do have 4 weeks to apply as from your last day worked, not your last paycheque. I was told it's best to apply as soon as you're eligible to apply and as long as your ROE is done electronically, you don't have to send any paper copy to EI. I was told once I get my EAD, I just have to fax it to them and I'm good. Apply for your AOS/EAD etc as SOON as you can after you get married.

I should also add to my post as NickiR was wondering, EI told me that I would be receiving the maximum allowable which will be 700 something AFTER the tax they take off and that is every two weeks. Much better than a kick in the pants!

JensJrny2RayFemaleCanada2013-05-09 10:25:00
CanadaThe Canuck EI Thread

Quick question.

Should I apply from within Canada or wait until I'm in the USA?

Last day of work is the 24th.  Last pay cheque from them will be the 30th.  Interview is the 3rd, passport back by the 7th, I hope and moving by the 10th or so.  I have to get an inspection done on my appt before I go otherwise I don't get my damage deposit back.  They way I see, from last day of work to 4 weeks after is the 21st.

So I should have until the 21st to apply for EI?  Or would be be counted from my last pay cheque? I would think that would probably when they'll send the ROE.  I know my ROE from Zellers is in there electronically,

I was trying to figure out hours and I haven't not been working from April 2006 to now. I'd assume I'd get the full benefits and time.  I'm just unsure how much the benefits will be.

She is a cr-1/ir-1----Which for lack of better terms--already is work eligible right from day one--unlike the k1'ers.

My apologies, thank you for correcting me...nothing like misinformation being thrown about.

as an aside, and an update,

I applied for EI just before leaving Canada on April 1st.  EI now has (after a bit of a struggle) all my ROE's so now I just wait for my work permit to come through ( I just sent off my application yesterday, so I'm looking at probably at least a 2 month wait). Brad said it was no problem, and just to fax it to them as soon as it arrives. Even though you have to call and leave a voicemail, they always get back to me the same day, often within the hour and have been super helpful.

I was laid off and am collecting EI. I will still be on EI when I get my visa. Will I still be able to collect it after I move to the U.S.?

You might temporarily not get benefits as part of the requirements to receiving EI is that you are ready and able to work. Unless you have a work permit right away then you are not able to work and therefore are ineligible for benefits until you receive your EAD.

JensJrny2RayFemaleCanada2013-04-30 16:02:00
CanadaThe Canuck EI Thread

I was in this same situation of thinking that I was going to get the full 36 weeks of pay. It is indeed true that they start counting your weeks when you apply for EI, but they don't pay you until your EAD is approved. I ended up only getting a couple months worth of payments because it took so long for my EAD to be approved.

My advice to everyone that has been approved for EI is to log in to their Service Canada account and check the info provided there. As soon as I faxed them my EAD and was approved, they updated the info including how much I was to be paid, and the date that my EI ran out was clearly stated there.

Note: When I called them to ask how many weeks I had left, they quoted me the amount BEGINNING when my EAD was approved. This was NOT TRUE. I asked again and mentioned that online it said it runs out much sooner. They double checked and told me I was actually correct! (unfortunately!)

Wish I knew this when I applied so that I could estimate the real amount of weeks I would get paid. But at least I planned ahead and had a job lined up for when my EI really ran out!

So what is their explanation as to why you got only X amount of weeks? I'm curious because I'll be applying for EI also. Do I apply before I leave Canada, or is it best to wait til I enter the USA. Will I get less weeks if I choose a certain option?
JensJrny2RayFemaleCanada2013-01-17 13:37:00
CanadaThe Canuck EI Thread

So I'm confused, my EI apparently ran out today but it's 8 weeks short of the 36 weeks they told me it would last for. I'm short 8 weeks. I read somewhere in this thread some people were losing benefits weeks because they started counting your benefits weeks when your case gets approved and if you don't have your EAD yet while your EI case is approved then you just don't get paid for those weeks. My EAD took a while for approval (4 months total, approx 3 months after I applied for EI), is this why I'm losing some weeks of benefits? This kind of throws me for a loop because I was initially told 36 weeks when I started getting paid. When I asked how much longer I had, I was told beginning of January (4 weeks short). Now I'm pretty much out all of a sudden. What's going on?

You should call them to find out.

It depends on customs regulations. Can you check their website if they have one, as to what is allowable? They may ask you if you are bringing gifts, and then you could declare the 2 phones at that time.

Sometimes I get caught up with sitting at home and on my computer all day because I miss my fiance, but the truth is...it's so important to get out there and live life while you wait. It's important physically and mentally! You can take this time of waiting to get other things in order in your life or go out and do things so that you have more stories to tell him when you get back home! The same goes for him as well!

Take care, and best wishes :)

To the OP: Never mind the sarcasm and self-righteousness; everyone likes to be right.

It sounds like you did everything right! I am sorry your lawyer told you that you made a mistake by sending it courier; that put the blame on you but you didn't do anything wrong. Of course you're going to send something like that via courier, they are sensitive papers. It just depends on where you live, that's all. I am sure you will hear something any day. Best of luck to you and everyone else that has waited so long to hear something from VSC.

It is hard, but in the meantime I've been focused on work and getting all the papers I need (vaccinations, police records, etc. etc.) We talk every day via Google hangouts and we always seem to know what the other is doing. Hi all
First time posting here. So I'm watching the mail closely waiting for the second notification from VSC. They received our 129F on 28 Aug. It's been 13 weeks, shouldn't we hear something soon?

Hi Steve,

I'd recommend filling in your timeline to get an estimate of when you'll receive your NOA2. It appears they've barely started on June, so you probably have a couple more months to go at least. In the meantime, get all the paperwork you need for your next steps :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhat does 5 months processing mean?

Hi, I'm new in this forum and would like to ask what does it means by 5 month processing. When I look at the processing times in USCIS website for K1 Visa it always say 5 months for CSC. I filed my I-129F last week of August 2012 with a receipt date of Sept. 1, 2012. It's been 90 days since I filed my petition, shouldn't I receive a NOA2 by now or it will take 5 months before you can receive your NOA2.

Yes, it will more than likely be at least 5 months.

Fill out your timeline and it will give you an approximate date that you can expect your NOA2

Hello to all who are in the ranks of July in vermont office, waiting APPROVAL, what are your expectations, I have observed that many already have approved June 13, is that they are already working in June, on the website of the USCIS says they are working on May 28, but they update the page the 15th of each month, meaning that you may already working in June.

My NOA1 date is July 13. According to the VJ calculations I could expect to have my case adjudicated between Jan. 7 and 13th of next year. I am just hoping this is correct, or maybe I will hear something by the end of the year. Hopefully I don't receive an RFE which may add on a few weeks. There is a thread here for the July Vermont filers too, so you may want to keep tabs on that.
