K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI'm just not sure... I need some help...
The summer camp J1 are not subject to the 2 year residency rule. It has something to do with the fact that the applicants are 100% self-funded.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI'm just not sure... I need some help...
I know when I got my (multiple) J1 visas (prior to K1), I had to provide a LOT of proof that I had ties in Ireland to return after the summer. While I was in College that wasn't too difficult but once I left college, I had to be a lot more creative.

I imagine, if your FI goes through Camp America, they will also have to provide something similar, so bear that in mind.

ETA, you probably know all that since you've done it before, but keep in mind that they have declared immigrant intent, so the embassy might be more picky

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresphotos for 1-129F
Minya - I completely agree that you should err on the side of caution on that. But I think most people would understand that long red hair compared to short blonde hair is a pretty big difference.

ETA. That unless there's a substantial discount for getting more photos together there really is no need to get them too early.

They do require recent photos, but unless you're planing on substantially changing your appearance (hair, weight, tan etc), they don't really have anyway of knowing when they were taken.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about processing times...
Usually the USCIS date is the oldest group of petitions still pending, rather than the dates of those most adjudicators are processing. The oldest could have RFE's or problems with administrative processing or any number of things.

Neither of those will be of a concern to the CO at the embassy.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI need Info....I am in Tears here :(
The Dublin Embassy will have no info on your file until about a month after you get your NOA2 which may not be for another few months. So no point in calling.

In the meantime check out the Guides and the Vermont September Filers Thread. You'll be able to talk to and keep track of other people at the same point of the process as you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWould marriage complicate visits to my fiance & I's countries?
I'm going to make a sub-context comment, not completely answering your question. Because I have experience with this particular thing, but not your actual question.

Ok ####### disclaimer done.

Travelling once your married (or not married for that matter), means that you have to prove that you don't want to stay illegally whether in the US or in another country (EU). This is usually done through proof, employment letters, rent agreements, mortgages, kids etc.

My Guy was american and was given a very hard time every time he entered heathrow, and often when entering Dublin. He was grilled, asked what he was doing there, how long, blah blah blah. Unlike when I'd visit him, he never brought proof, but I would recommend always traveling both ways with proof of ties to home countries, even for the US citizen. Sometimes he was only given a 2 week leave to stay in Ireland or the UK, basically the date he was due to fly home plus a couple for delays.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFilling out a green I-94 piece of paper (commonly thought of as the Visa Waiver form)
Just to clarify.

If you are travelling on Visa Waiver - You must apply for ESTA and fill out a Green I94W. You must also fill in a blue and white customs form (that has nothing to do with immigration)

If you are travelling on a K1 - You do not need to do ESTA. You need to fill out a White I94. You must also fill in a blue and white customs form (that has nothing to do with immigration)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplication errors of switching 'None' and 'N/A'
I definitely had some incorrect usages of N/A and none but didn't leave any blanks. I didn't have any issues.

While it's better to get it right, I think as long as the answes aren't ambiguous, you should be ok. I wouldn't rush to try and amend, it usually doesn't work anyway.

He may need to file a waiver for his J1 residency requirements, depending on the agency he came to the US with.

I don't have personal experience of this but this link might help

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresplanning a wedding
While everyone here will tell you it's a bad idea, as long as you're smart you can totally do this.

We didn't really set a date until we had our NOA2 in our hand

We picked a date about 3 months after the latest possible date we could forsee me getting my visa, and were right by a couple of weeks, and that included an unforeseen delay with a police report.

We picked places and vendors that required only a small deposit, and were very willing to work with us on changing dates if necessary.

We warned people not to book tickets until they got the go ahead from us. In the end some of my family took the 'risk' and ended up booking their tickets before I did!

We did as much planning as we could for the non-date specific stuff. The ceremony, the dress, the tux, the music.

The only disadvantage to this that we found, is that I ended up having to stay in Ireland a little longer than I would have liked. I got my visa at the beginning of May, and didn't want to spend too much time out of work, so ended up waiting until July to travel for our planned August wedding.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProof of Engagement?
Just to clarify - You definitely don't need an engagement ring for the Dublin embassy. As long as you can prove that you have a real bona-fide relationship you could have proposed with a turnip for all they care. I can't comment on other countries, especially those with different wedding traditions, but i imagine canada would be similar.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F - How I made the application package
QUOTE (gf97 @ Apr 29 2009, 03:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
How to make the I-129 F petition folder/package to send to Immigration: how I did it:

Ok. This is what I had: the US Citizen will be the one doing all the work at this stage. All the foreigner has to do is sign 4 sheets of paper and submit passport pix to the US Citizen, so that the US citizen can start putting the application together.

<stupid off-topic vent>

It annoys me when people make this assumption. Many beneficiaries on this site do all the work, and many couple do it as a team.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTravel Questions
There has been posts of people successfully visiting on the VWP after receiving their K1 (sorry I couldn't find them). But it is up to the CBP person on the day. It was something I had considered so did follow the issue.

Another option is to either delay your interview for as long as possible, or to request at your interview for a delay in having it printed in your passport. That will depend on the embassy official

If you have a loan, that can work as a tie.
If he's coming to visit you in the near future and has already bought his ticket that can work well too.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!
I've visited the states tons of time, on short work visas and on VWP to visit friends and my boyfriend
My boyfriend is now my fiance and I'm visiting for week in about 3 weeks time.
Its my first time to the states in over 2 years.
The day after I leave we're going to file our I129F and I won't be back until the wedding.

I always travel with proof of employment and bank balance anyway.
So this time should I say "Going to visit friends", not mention my fiance and pass through easily or will that come back and bite us in the ### during the interview processes?

Thanks all

United KingdomWould it be tacky...
We're in a lucky situation in that we're having the reception in a not ridiculously expensive city
Plus we kinda feel that a lot of the people coming (about 50%) will have spent about 1500$ getting there (damn august prices)
So we're buying everyone their drinks

We did debate about it for a long time, and most of my irish friends think we're crazy but ... we're looking forward to treating people.

We're having it in an awesome microbrewery with the best red ale. Mmmm yummy

United KingdomWedding Registries - did anyone use them for gifts for the wedding?
bear in mind that if you buy electronics now for when you move back in a few years, they'll probably be out of warranty by the time you get over there.

BB&B and Target both took non-US Credit Cards

And not all registries have to be filled with ####### you don't need. Everything we got, we loved! We didn't register for expensive china, just your bog standard dishes. I know people who've registered for a Wii, and we got lots of board games. I know others who registered for camping gear too.

I appreciated all our gifts (probably could have done without the His and Her towels) but to be honest, I'm worried we're not putting the cash gifts to very good use. They seem to be going towards day to day stuff rather than something solid for our future, which I'd prefer. I know we need it right now cos we're waiting for me to get a job but it feels like bad form to use it for groceries!

United KingdomFailed Driving Test
Just to clarify something may be irrelevant to OP

In WI, if you're over 18, you do NOT need to take a drivers education class. You do need to take the theory and road test but aren't required to sit in a classroom with 15 year olds.

United Kingdomimportant travel info, to put in my wedding invites.
Might want to recommend that they register ESTA as soon as they purchase tickets or not leave it too long at least. My bro in law (a brit) missed our wedding cos he couldn't travel on VWP (silly mistake when he was 16 - 34 years ago!) and it was a 3 month wait for an embassy interview.

United KingdomUSD-GBP exchange rate
I get daily emails with the day's mid-market rate from xe.com.
Even if you don't want to use xe.com as a trader, I've found it useful.
You can watch the small trends, and it helps me plan when to bring over enough to keep going.

It makes for depressing reading but it's saved me money!

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Japanese Police Report - Dublin
Has anyone requested a police report from the Japanese Embassy in Dublin.
I called for information and they said they needed a letter stating the reason for the report.
Is this the same as the one for the Gardai? Just a letter from you stating the reason.
Or do they require the one from Packet 3?

Just it takes 2 months so would like to get it moving sooner rather than later.

(X-posted a few other places too! sorry!)

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Police Reports Headache Part 3!
Ok, because the Irish police report and the Japanese police report weren't enough of a headache ....

Looking through posts, there does seem to be a difference in opinion about whether you need to obtain a police report for all countries lived in from the age of 16 if you've lived there for 12 months or 6 months.

I know some of this is because possibly it's different for different applications and possibly for different consulates.
So here's my questions.

1. Does anyone know which is required from Dublin Ireland?
2. If I need to get a police report from India, where I lived for 8 months, I presume I just go to the Indian Embassy (who don't take any for of phone calls!), and get a police clearance certificate? From the interestingly phrased website, I think I can get it on the same day?

Thanks once again for your help! With all this police certificating, I actually wish I'd done something to warrant it!

X-posted a few places!

Joanne
