United KingdomPhotos for the Interview

Thanks Wheatley and Stevensane, your advice is very much appreciated.

I have read the section a few times it has been extremely helpful, sometimes people (like myself) just need to get an answer to their little questions to calm the mind, even if they have been answered before in a different way.

Will be sure to leave an extensive review of my interview to help future filers.

United KingdomPhotos for the Interview

I know they are not exactly necessary, but I am thinking of bringing a few extra to the interview.

Would it really matter that much if I just printed some photos on normal A4 paper?

Other than that I am good to go hopefully.

I have all my documents, birth certificate, police check thing, medical results, and the affidavit of support with a bunch of evidence for that.

I don't have any pictures yet, or proof of flights other than old emails, but my thinking is that the i-129f was when we should have submitted our "proof of relationship", and they would have sent out an RFE if they needed more. Am I right in thinking the interview is just to make sure that the finances are in order, you wont be a public charge, and an opportunity to physically talk about the relationship.

I am sorry, but it is 5 days until my interview, I am not really nervous, as the one thing I am confident about is our relationships validity :) I just don't want to get tripped up by not dotting the i, or crossing the t.

Thanks,

Chris

United KingdomK1 Approved!

No worries! I took a chance and brought my electronics along anyway. Off to sleep now ready to get to the embassy nice and early smile.png congrats again!

Good Luck for tomorrow rhirhi. Let us know how your day went! I am flying out on Thursday, Friday interview.

United Kingdomnotarized letter?

Your bank should do it for free. If she goes in tomorrow, gets it notarized before midday, sends it off normal post you would get it the next week. My other half lives in Montana, and sent it off first class mail on the Monday, and I got it on Saturday.

UPS also do it for a small charge. It is just a stupid little stamp, but better safe than sorry.

PS, do not sign and date it until the notary says so, otherwise they cant do it.

I honestly didn't even know what a notary was until I watched Pain and Gain.

United KingdomKNIGHTSBRIDGE DOCTORS - VISA MEDICAL INFO

Just jump through the rings. I don't know why you would refuse a jab, for the sake of £29.00, you get rid of the uncertainty come AOS. If you read the Knightsbridge Doctor thread, closer to the end, you will see that your experiences are not exactly unusual. I had to get a 24 hour blood pressure monitor the next week, and the girl sitting beside me had to get a letter from her doctor.

It is just one of those things.

Just get the letter, and get ready for the interview. You should be excited to be this close to finalizing the process :) Chill!

United KingdomThank You

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone ((especially Nich-Nick, and Wheatley) that helped and guided us through our K1 process. I got approved this morning. I was first immigrant visa of the day.

I left up my review if anyone is interested.

This forum rocks.

United KingdomIs this my final date to enter by?

And in actual response to the original post. If your interview is after the date of your i-797 expiry, then you will need to provide a notarized letter of intent stating that the petitioner is still wanting and willing to marry within the specified time. My expiry was the 9th of January, and had my interview today. I had my fiancee send me out a notarized letter on the 11th of Jan. Got here in plenty of time, and it was accepted by the embassy. The officer said I would have until June or July to enter the country if that helps at all if you are trying to work out time lines or periods of time.

I wish avatars would have something below them to state what embassy they are going through, for their respective visas to avoid confusion.

Like a flag or something.... I dunno.

They are released in batches at the start of every other week (maybe even every third week)

Chances are if Patriots person got their date, you will have yours too.

Don't sweat it chum. No one said it was easy. If you can make it through this, you are already stronger than a large majority of the relationships out there.

United KingdomPatiently awaiting interview date. Who else here is waiting?

Nope called today and still no date. Getting really fed up with this now. Been dragging on for nearly a year now and it's now started to affect our relationship. We have seen each other a total of 20 days in a little under a year! All that time we could of been spent together wasted by lazy bureaucrats. Rant over!

In fairness, it is a privilege to immigrate to the United States, not a god given right.

Although it is frustrating, it is something you have to do. Ranting about it wont really change anything. Your medical was done before the embassy even got your LND number right?

And you didn't send off your Form of Readiness, and DS-160 until the 7th. So six weeks is the guideline the embassy gives, and 4 weeks is the average time around here. You are barely 2 weeks after sending off your DS-160 and documents.

You seriously need to calm yourself. You are looking at another 4 weeks from the time you get your date. You are going to make yourself sick, if you are this wound up for that long...

We all miss our loved ones, but sometimes it is beneficial to take a step back, and look at the bigger picture. What is a couple of months in the grand scheme of things and (hopefully) years and years of being together.

United KingdomDS-230

Yeah I had my interview their on Friday. And I can definately say, the second I walked up to the first desk my stress levels declined by 100%.

She literally asked me how we met, does she have siblings, and how did I propose.

I have posted a lengthy review in the Embassy Review section. You can actually set up an email response, so everytime someone puts up a review of London you get emailed. It is what I did, and it did help calm the nerves and prepare.

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-03-04 07:15:00
United KingdomDS-230

Yes sorry i forgot to mention it is a k1. I added my fiancé to the list so he can come with me, i was just wondering if he can actually go with me when they ask me questions!

So no ds230?! Why do they confuse us so much!

There is really no need for him to be at the counter when they ask you questions. The first time you go up you just hand over documents, and the second time they just ask a couple questions regarding your relationship. It is a 5 minute formal discussion, The girl I  had was very friendly. There is no need for your partner to join you at the window. If they needed further evidence of the relationship, they would have asked by now.

The forms are generalized to the extent that they are barely understandable to get the specifics. Stick to the guide at the top of the UK forum which Nich-Nick and Wheatly created and you will be just fine.

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-03-02 06:26:00
United KingdomDS-230

I take it you are applying for a K1 visa, saying you mention a fiance.

1. You will need a notarized letter of re-intent. Simple as. It was the third question they asked me, so why even risk it for the sake of 5 bucks.

2. If you are applying for a K1 you do are not required to submit a ds230. Only submit the Ds160, and readiness form, which I presume you have already done if you have your interview. I agree it is horribly written, I asked the very same question about 3 or 4 months ago.

3. Your fiance can sit with you (but not at the interview, you dont actually sit for the interview, it is just a big hall with about 20 glass-screened counters), when you pay your MRV, there is a part of the fill-in sheet which asks if anyone is accompanying you. If you find that this is no longer the case (although it was when I filled in the MRV on Tuesday), then there are plenty of places she can stay at while she waits for you nearby. I think there is a Costa Coffee shop like a 3 minute walk away. You can bring your phone in with you now, so if needs be, she/he can walk up and down oxford street, and meet you when your done :)

United KingdomPassport (Am I worrying too much?)

I replied dude. Im still on UK time. haha.

For anyone interested. I had no issues. I brought both passports and told the officer and he said it was fine.

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-03-05 07:30:00
United KingdomPassport (Am I worrying too much?)

New passport. The one that will have a visa put in it. The old number is invalid now. That's my logic, not something that has been resolved before.

Thanks, I am a bit worried about my DS 160 having my old passport number. But from previous peoples experience, it hasn't raised many issues.

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-02-24 14:48:00
United KingdomPassport (Am I worrying too much?)

So I am just about to pay for MRV, should I put in my new passport number now, or keep the old one so I dont confuse it?

Overthinking, I am afraid is a trait which I fear will grow daily until the day of my interview

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-02-24 14:39:00
United KingdomPassport (Am I worrying too much?)

Yeah, that's why I just wanted to make sure changing passports was okay, at this point. My interview isn't until next Friday. So one day service this wednesday should be fine hopefully.

United KingdomPassport (Am I worrying too much?)

Nope, they are changed.

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-02-16 12:09:00
United KingdomPassport (Am I worrying too much?)

Ok, I started having a browse, looking at peoples experiences in the London offices with passports. I took out mine, and it looks pretty tatty. The gold has come off the front, due to normal wear and tear, and the back of the id page has a slight (4mm) corner of laminate coming away from the passport page.

I booked a premium passport appointment on Wednesday, to get it picked up the same day, as a precaution. (I am pretty sure they give you the old passport back with corners cut off within the 4 hours)

My only concern is my application having my old passport number on it. Is this likely to delay the issuance of my visa?

Does anyone else have experience with this?

Will I need to redo my DS-160, as it clearly states my old passport number on it.

United KingdomQuestion in regards to Notification of Applicant Readiness form

My bad, but I would still try. This is the same email service who told me I would have to restart the visa process because I renewed my passport..(which is utter pish)

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-03-05 11:53:00
United KingdomQuestion in regards to Notification of Applicant Readiness form

When you pay your MRV fee, it asks for the persons details accompanying you. There shouldn't be an issue with a relative. Although there are plenty of establishments nearby, and you are now allowed your cell phone in the embassy, should she change her mind.

Then yeah, the LSE is fine. Just think of anything confirming his income, that plus a tax transcript and the w2 if you have it would more than suffice.

No problem, people helped me not long ago, just paying it forward.

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-03-05 11:00:00
United Kingdomevidence of support

How about a couple of payslips? Copies would suffice.

As for Tax return, I would advise a tax transcript. This can be found here: http://www.irs.gov/I.../Get-Transcript

He can enter his details and download the pdf and then email it to you, or if he gives you his details you can download it yourself.

Takes 5 minutes, and you don't have to wait on post like you used to, only months ago. It seems like a no brainer for the amount of effort required.

United KingdomDoes anyone have experience of flying from Dublin recently?

Ahhhhh, if it's all on one ticket then you'll be fine as if you miss a connection they'll put you on the next one.

If it's all with one airline (or partner airlines) they'll check your bags straight through so you won't have to pick them up at any point.

As Wheatley says, it will just be a find-the-gate exercise.

If your first port of call is Dublin, you will be absolutely fine with POE. I very selfishly put you in the same position as me where your connection would be in Dublin tongue.png

Thanks for your help RhiRhi, I have nothing to worry about now with my visa, so I have to start thinking about other things such as flight connections to keep my mind occupied, as I have nothing to do until next Friday. :)

Ah so your FIRST airport is Dublin then? Are all your flights booked on one ticket? Same airline?

Yup, so at least if it goes tits up, they can sort me out hopefully.

Wheatley, thanks for your help. I searched and got something along those lines, but I just had issues figuring out what it meant. Although I fly a good amount, I am still pretty useless when it comes to airports.

United KingdomDoes anyone have experience of flying from Dublin recently?

Yeah I have flown from Dublin a couple of times as I live just outside of Belfast. (It is a lot cheaper than either Belfast Airport)

I have only flown to Newark before from Dublin, and that was a while ago, and I can't remember what I had to do with bags, and from memory I had a 4 or 5 hour layover, so I wasn't really paying attention or rushing.

I only remember the preclearance, not whether I had to pick up bags, or go through customs.

United KingdomDoes anyone have experience of flying from Dublin recently?

Just hoping to hear some reviews or experiences of people flying from Dublin recently, especially with connections?

I have a 1 hour 20 minute connection to Denver, and then a 44 minute connection to my last flight to Montana.

I know I am cutting it fine, I would just like to know what to expect when I land in Dulles, will I have to go through security? I did phone United, but the girl didn't even realize Dublin had preclearance, so I am looking for information from people who have flown similar routes, from Dublin into a domestic terminal.

United KingdomWhat parts of English culture will you/do you miss?

Lived most of my life in Bangor and Newtownards. Worked mainly in Comber , the Lisburn Road and Boucher Road in Belfast.

I would run you over for a sausage, bacon and egg Belfast bap at the minute.

I have no idea how many there are of us from "Norn Iron".

Wow it really is a small world. I might just get a wee sausage bacon and egg bap from the pitstop tomorrow, you have got me in the mood. I have slowly been saying goodbye to pub grub over the past week. Finished off today with a nice chicken burger at the Jamaica Inn. Your the first I have ever seen from Bangor or Ards, normally the people I talk to or notice from Northern Ireland are from the back ####### of nowhere.

Weather's been insane full stop.. was -10C this morning in RI. I would like for these winter storms and such to kindly sod off out the door and not return until 2015.

I live in Montana. We got to -40 before Christmas, and for one day, we were the coldest town in the world. Colder than the North Pole... Get on my level... haha joking, joking I just never imagined moving to America and getting -40 f***ing degrees for 3 months a year, trust me to find the girl of my dreams in one of the Coldest places in the world.. . I can't wait for summer. At least for the large majority America gets a proper 4 seasons. Unlike the one week most the UK gets.

United KingdomWhat parts of English culture will you/do you miss?

Woooohoooo!!! A fellow Ulsterman.

Greetings brother.

I find being from NI has made me a lot more intolerant of religious zealots. Don't come across to many. I get way more annoyed with the belief that this great country was setup as a theocracy and not as a secular nation. No matter how much evidence there is to the latter.

And Yes I do miss chocolate, sausage, cheese and bread. It is how it is. But I have found so many other things I love to replace the things I miss.

Greetings! We must be few and far between. I often wonder just how many from "our wee country" make it over on the ole K1. Yeah, I am as secular as they come, Montana isn't too bad for the bible thumpers actually, and I would bet they won't kneecap me when they find out I am from a  protestant background, in a largely catholic area :)

Where abouts you from? From Bangor/East Belfast myself.

Coming back to the states on the 14th of March, can't wait. I have had enough sausage sodas to tide me over until next time :)

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-03-07 20:32:00
United KingdomWhat parts of English culture will you/do you miss?

An observation.

Over the years I've been reading UK/USA message boards, I have observed that more recent migrants tend to talk about missing food from home. It always ends with talk of bread, cheese, chocolate, and sausages.

People who have been away from the UK for many years tend to talk about missing a UK lifestyle. Walks in the countryside. Public transport. Pub culture. No guns and no religious zealots. They even begin to miss the weather. Or - they don't miss a single thing about the place and are glad to have seen the backside of it.

Being from Northern Ireland I can quite happily stick the religious zealots in Montana. They are relatively tame about it in comparison haha.

I miss a few cultural things, but honestly, 90% of the time, I don't miss a single thing about the place past my family.

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-03-06 21:28:00
United KingdomWhat parts of English culture will you/do you miss?

Milky Ways? In the States they are vastly inferior. It's barely even a Milky Way. I forget what the chocolate bars are that are actually like Milky Ways, but the Milky Ways I've eaten there are more like Mars bars. Not even light or fluffy at all.

Oh I didn't even think about crumpets. Of course, the quintessential British breakfast food - I can't get along in my own country without them being Warburton's and I can't imagine what the American variant is like. Good job I like pancakes I guess...

Pooky - Marmite is great! wink.png

This made me laugh.

Milky Ways in America ARE Mars Bars

3 Musketeers are the equivalent to Milky Ways.

I remember bringing some back to mess with my little brother.
