United KingdomRandom flight question

Dublin is great. And yes POE is in Dublin. So if, and that is a big IF, you have any issues, you find out in dublin, instead of at the end of a 6 or 7 hour flight.

Not to mention Dublin is usually cheaper ( I think they pay less airport tax)

You only need one, but I have 2, because you never know, you might lose it, I have one in my folder, and one in my back up folder in the safe. They give you back the certificate once medical is done.

United KingdomDoing your drivers permit test in America!

I love Montana for so many reasons. But government offices is just one of them. I walked in, didnt have to stand in line, waited 5 minutes, had a chat with the woman, did the theory, passed that, asked if I could do the drivers test, she said sure im sure I could squeeze you in. Ended up driving round the block, before she said, looks like you have driven a few times, and I said yea, driving in a busy european city makes it easy in Montana. She seemed amazed by the fact that I was from a different country (I have a non accent), she said just drive back to the DMV, I asked how much the thing was and she said 48 dollars, and I said oh really I thought it was nine (I was looking at the wrong thing). She said no it is 48, but ill let you off this time and only charged me nine.

My fiancee was booked in later that day for her test (changing state licence) and was charged the full amount. I think it is definately an attitude test with Americans sometimes.

United KingdomPost-medical at Knightsbridge... now what?

Just called DOS per your suggestion Jessica and Anna (despite the unwavering "no status" on our application at CEAC.) At last, success!!! DOS confirmed that the Embassy HAS finally scheduled our interview - Feb 21 at 10 am!!! Told us not to worry about the no status, updating the website sometimes lags. They suggested we will most likely receive our appointment letter in the next couple weeks, but to call (the embassy) if we don't see it by then. What a great weight I feel lifted off us!! Thank you so much to all of you for helping us get through this nerve wracking time!

Rob and Adrian

That is awesome!

Are you near london? Only reason I ask is that I am desperate for a 10 am appointment, as Im from Northern Ireland, and I was hoping they were being sensible in giving you a later time, because maybe you lived a good distance away?

United KingdomPost-medical at Knightsbridge... now what?

Yes, we called the number everyone else has been calling on this feed

I seem to get to typical responses from that number.

1.) Helpful, and corteous

2.) What do you want? We dont have it, call somewhere else. (Often spoken by someone with a heavy latino accent, or barely comprehendable mumble)

Just call again.

United KingdomPost-medical at Knightsbridge... now what?

Okay, finally an update: We called the DOS (202-485-7600) on Friday, we wanted to wait a business week after Knightsbridge had couriered the medical to the Embassy before calling to allow them time to process it and schedule the interview. Still said "No Status" on the CEAC website. DOS told me that the Embassy DID in fact have the medical, but had not yet scheduled the interview. No, they couldn't give me any further info on when the interview would be scheduled, but I could call them. Waited the weekend and MLK day, then called the London Embassy today (703-439-2367) to find out when they would be scheduling my interview, when the status would be updated, etc. Come to find out, they told me we could schedule the interview, right then, over the phone... they even had openings this afternoon! If I had known we could just call to schedule our interview we would have done it earlier!

We ended up scheduling the interview for this coming Monday, gave us time to schedule a flight from Edinburgh down to London... very excited!

If this is not common knowledge, do you think we should create a new post to let people know they can schedule their interviews?

Thanks all,

Rob and Adrian

That is awesome that you were able to do that. Out of curiosity was the 703 number an expensive call?

I take it you had your readiness form sent off before you even had the medical?

Good luck for Monday, hopefully you have stumbled across a great secret/tip.

Yeah I had to call and find mine out as I haven't received packet 4 so the embassy emailed me conformation instead

United KingdomUK Passport Question

I am just starting a new job (to save a few quid before I head back) and I am working for Her Majesty's Passport Office. During training, we were told that everytime a new passport is issued, you get a new passport number.

If I wanted to renew my passport, is there anything I should be contacting the embassy with? Or should I just turn up with new passport?

NBC Sports has rights to every Premier League game. They will show one on every day a Premier League game is played, and have a iPlayer like streamer, which streams live, and games that have already been played, online.

Sports Pak on Charter costs me 5.98 a month extra, and is completely worth it.

Sorry for multiple posts, it wont let me edit my post. I looked at the website and it is indeed down. This isn't out of the ordinary for a beta site, as they are often applying feedback recieved to make the product better, and make less mistakes in the future. I would be amazed if the site was still down come Sunday Evening/Monday Morning

There is no need to use an external service. It isn't that complicated, and you can save yourself a lot of hassle.

Nich-Nick and Wheatly jointly created a great resource, and step by step guide which can be found in the attached link. I can't force you to do it yourself, but I would strongly advise you too. There may be the odd thing you will need clarification on, but that is what this forum does, normally very quickly. I work for the passport office, and we get about 300 calls a week from people who have used external websites, who then have to pay twice, because their fees don't represent the application costs, just their filing fees. Please be careful.

Just called again, option 3, and girl was happy enough to look up my case to see if I had an interview date scheduled (without protests, or me having to ask supervisor) (I do not have a date yet btw). But this seems like the new way to do it.

srvmanMaleUnited Kingdom2014-02-03 14:32:00
United KingdomAny cheap ways around contacting the London Embassy

Called NVC option 3. Once again an incredibly rude agent. "I have listened to you, now you listen to me" was something he said, after I cut him off, because he gave me the non immigrant number to schedule an appointment. Anyway. Got through to his Team Leader, once again, Lovely lady, who was called Sylvia, she said there was no interview date scheduled for me, but they do have the information available to see when an interview is scheduled, and I asked if I call back, would I be able to check up on my status, to see if I get an interview date scheduled, and she said "Yes sir, we have that information available, and we would be able to tell you when you interview date." She also confirmed operators should be able to see the information, but perhaps not all know where to find the information just yet, but she said she would start telling her agents, as I told her she probably should since DOS are directing all their calls her way :)

So there you go, NVC, Option 3, if they don't give you the information, request to talk to a team leader or supervisor, i'm sure within a few days, they will start giving out the dates and information a little more freely when their supervisors start telling them what to do.

United KingdomAny cheap ways around contacting the London Embassy

To anyone that cares,

I managed to get through to the DOS today, and got on to a supervisor, he said that he was aware the NVC only handles K1 visas to a certain extent, and that it may be a better idea to contact london. So I challenged him to find me a number, ring it, and get any success. After a 25 minute call, he conceded that they should not be giving out the NVC number to K1 applicants looking for Interview dates, and said he would pass it on to management at their meeting tomorrow morning. I doubt anything will be done about it, but you never know. I got through to an agent, who was extremely rude, and I also made him aware of this, and the fact it wasn't the first time, and that perhaps he should maybe give some staff a refresh, on how to handle a call with a little bit more enthusiasm. He apologized, and that it has also been noted, and the way operators talk will also be reviewed, as it wasn't his first complaint about it. The supervisor's name was James. Nice guy. He tried to fob me off with the automated visa line, but I told him that is just an automated line. I said I will leave it with him, and just explained, that it is more than just me being affected, and he seemed to understand. So, if anyone is trying to call and asks for a supervisor, ask for James, and refuse to let them call you back, just say your will gladly wait on hold, even if it may take 10 minutes.

Yep, most likely.

I'd give it a week or two, then swallow the cost of calling the extortion line.  I'd say "wait 6 weeks" but I know you won't do that (like I didn't either wink.png ), but the chances of it being set this week are so small you may as well wait and see what comes in the mail in the next 10-14 days or so at least.  Not every letter gets lost in the mail. smile.png

Yup, you never know, I will try the DOS line sometime late next week before, and I will report either way. Thanks.

They *may* have got your medical today.  It could easily be 6 weeks before you get a date.

Quite true. I'm not bothered about the date I get my date, I would just like to have the ability to ask prior to receiving snail mail. It is more the principle of the matter.

My CEAC was updated today, which was the same date Knightsbridge said London would get it, so I would imagine, that means they have my medical info now.

What did the 603 number say to you?  Did they redirect you, or say they couldn't know?

I've seen a lot of people saying that they're not getting useful info out of DoS lately, so I'm starting to think the same as Nich-Nick - they're fed up of getting lots of calls for info from people that haven't waited the 6 weeks they're told to wait on the readiness form.

They said to just contact the embassy, and that they didn't "do that".

My readiness form was in on the start of December, so I should be fine in that regard. The whole contact system is a mess. Don't know their ####### from their elbow.

I asked if I was able to check the status on my case, to see if a interview date has been issued. Will try again tomorrow, and report what they say. He sounded pretty annoyed that I would even ask, it was a real "oh we dont do that anymore, go to the 603 number", 603 number was useless with a longer wait.

And yes, that number you quoted is the one I used.

So I will be getting ready to attempt to call for my interview date, as there has been a recurring theme of London being slightly slow at sending stuff out.

I called the 202 number, to be told "we dont do that, call the 603 number", only to be told, you have to contact the embassy.

I don't fancy the 1.20 charge per minute, especially when all I am doing is checking for an interview date. I have skype so can call american lines no issue. Should I be emailing? Or has one of those numbers given me bad information.

Call the number repeatedly, I get the busy signal, and after 5 or 6 times I always get through. (although it is easier to just keep pressing call on skype if you catch my drift.)

United KingdomK1 visa DS-230

Unless it has changed in the last week again, you only need to fill out the DS-160 and the Form of Readiness, for a K1 visa that is. I believe only the IR-1/CR-1 form requires the form you are mentioning. The wording is pretty horrible on the form though from memory, so it is a valid question, a question that I previously asked
