I got VSC too.

I saw that. Welcome to hell, the VSC only did about 800 petitions in December and had over 18,000 in their backlog at that time. Unlike the other centers they never went to 0, at their lowest their backlog was 11,918.

Wow, just wow...I've lost all faith in this process. I might miss out on my child's first steps at the rate this is all going. And they haven't even been born yet....sad.png

So in total: 9 months for NOA2 and 5-6 months to the interview. January 2015 it is. sad.png

It's probably not going to be 9 months for you  , some people in July are getting NOA2's. Also just be think of yourself as lucky that you're not staring down the gun barrel of unlimited AP after the interview is done like I am because my wife is a Muslim with a common Muslim name (and I am not).

I am thinking they should not have an issue with you changing the maiden name. But, safest would be to wait until the uscis portion is done as background checks happen at this juncture etc if you aren't travelling. NVC process is different more on the income and other issues. And finally, why stay with the PIO card, just get an OCI? i got my OCI within 50 days. From past experience, i didnt submit passport copies and tax returns can still be under the old name since he is not on your returns yet or vice versa.

How soon after marriage can you get an OCI?

There are people who have been married longer than we have who have been waiting just as long as we were and longer. (Which, btw, is also bullshit.)  I don't expect any problems at the consulate level, but getting through the NVC is probably going to take much longer than it needs to.  (Seriously, there's gotta be a way for them to streamline this. My husband is a computer programmer, and I'm certain that he could come up with some kind of program to make this ###### go faster.) For instance, all of the documents that we send to the USCIS are copies, and apparently they're scanned into a computer for processing in the USCIS. Why can't they send the file electronically to the NVC, especially given that we'll be submitting the originals at that stage.  (Or do you think the USCIS is still on a 14.4 modem? ) Why waste time waiting for them to physically ship the files? (And then saying it could be 6-8 weeks?!? I want to know whom they're using to ship those files, because that is a shitty timeline and I never want to use them for anything I ship out.)

The NVC and the Embassy double check everything anyway, the USCIS stage is a waste of time. We ought to just have our foreign ministry (the Department of State, in particular the embassy) do it all when the applicant lives abroad, like 90+% of the rest of the world does it.

Tier 2 no help whatsoever.  They refused to open a service request for me based on the fact that I'm 60 days past my transfer date, and the attachment I received in the mail said that I should call and "make an inquiry" after that time.  USCIS is so useless, and my wife and I are so frustrated...

p.s. I waited on hold longer than 90 minutes to talk to Tier 2.

On the upside, the longest part of the "waiting and not being able to do anything about it" is over, once you're approved.

Assuming the beneficiary is not put into AP, this is true. This might not be a good assumption for people from some countries, like Egypt, to make though.

I am really happy for all the approvals, but what bothers me is that there are case from September that haven't been approved yet and then November cases that are already being approved apparently and October approvals are definitely all over the place. I was hoping since I have a PD of 10/1 I'd be on the earlier end, but it doesn't look like it's happening, although I am keeping up hope for some good news this week. I'm sure this is dependent on many factors, such as where the case was transferred to and what stack the person who is processing picked up that day, but it is really annoying to me! I wish they would proceed in order....

All of the November cases appear to be flukes.

The wait is around 9-12 months for NOA2 right now. It's just the way it is. Some people from April and March still haven't been approved. We September and October filers have a long wait ahead of us.

April until now is 8 months, not 9, and some maye filers are getting approvals. As they work the backlog the time will come down. 7 months is IMO a more realistic timeframe.

Congrats. Looks like the Vermont service center is flying right now because they don't have any backlogged. We'll have to get a non-Philipina/o approval though to be sure that that wasn't the cause, but it looks like the lack of any I-130 backlog at Vermont is making the petitions fly through there. Also a great way to show the statistically illiterate higher ups in the government (who of course would never bother to look at the median or average range of approval times) that the "average approval time" is closing in on that vaunted 5-month goal really fast. Of course that's F*cked up that people with children and pregnant wives are being separated while people like me who don't have any children will probably get approved faster BECAUSE of the fact that we applied later, but God Bless the US of A (of course!--in case anyone from the NSA is reading this....).

Were you at Vermont? If so that would fit into a pattern of really quick Vermont approvals. Otherwise you were expedited because your wife is Philipina.

Another thing people don't consider is the various background checks that occur. Some come back quick and others take awhile. For example, if you held a clearance of some sort, your background is going to come back real quick. If you have a great credit record, another quick check. If there are issues in your background, this might cause further investigation. i am not saying this is what happens, or does not happen, but I have been through a lot with previous Federal work, and one of the charges of USCIS is to ensure the safety and security of our nation.

I think my credit is good, but I happen to have a lot of credit card debt at the moment (around $2000) at the moment. Where can I check what the USCIS will see on my credit?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsUSC Green Card Petitioner's Committee--Organization and Agenda Moving Forward

So, now that I am back in a healthy mental state I and the numbers for this month are good and out (boo!) I feel the need to get the ball rolling so to speak.

Long story short, we're losing. Despite their promises the USCIS is not significantly increasing their approval rate, certainly not enough to get the wait time to 5 months by May. Currently they're in March of last year and at the end of this week it's going to be February. The USCIS will have to move their processing date up by 9 months by the middle of May to meet their goal. At the rate their going, it's not going to happen any time soon. In the meantime the Congress is soon going to start discussing a general amnesty for illegal immigrants, which if passed would be absolutely disastrous for the legal immigrant community, judging by the effects of the DACA and Provisional Waiver programs. If an amnesty is passed without provisions to reduce USC I-130 wait times those of us currently waiting from late last year and new USC I-130 filers could be facing wait times of more than 1 year just for an I-130. This cannot be allowed to happen.

They need to feel the heat. We need to remind them we are here, and we won't be ignored.

This was a good example of the actions we need to take:

http://uscisconnect.ideascale.com/

After removing my letter three times, eventually USC I-130 petitions, their spouses and supported voted the letter to the #2 place on the site (we were only 1 vote away from #1) and downvoted all of the other "ideas" in their "conversation" to oblivion. In response to this, the USCIS was forced to end their "discussion." The people in charge of this surely took note.

We need more actions like this, more civil disobediance. The USCIS hosts nation-wide teleconferences on obscure issues like O visas for artists and the usage of the Creole language for USCIS services, subjects that address a rather small minority of the USCIS's "customers." While I myself believe that art and language are important and don't have any objection to addressing them by the USCIS ipso facto, I DO take umbrage to them holding so many events on obscure issues like this when there are HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of US citizens waiting to see their loved ones again or exiled from their native land, and the USCIS refuses to hold a teleconference for us or to even address us with anything but lies.

In Occupied Territories of Palestine, the IDF engages in a number of practices which it calls (forgive me if I err as my Hebrew is really rusty) "lehargish etzmukha" or "making yourself (your presence) felt." Soldiers are sent out to map and take pictures of areas that have been mapped many times before, the IDF breaks into houses in the middle of the night, blindfolds and shackles the men, and rides them around the village in circles before releasing them, IDF soldiers go on midnight patrols through villages and throw glow sticks through the windows of Palestinian houses. What does throwing a glow stick into someone's house do to them? When the Palestinians wake up in the morning, the know the IDF has been there, they remember that they are a conquered, occupied people. As much as I oppose this terrorism against the Palestinians, it has been extremely effective: despite the continued building of settlements and the tightening of marshal law there's been no significant acts of armed resistance in the West Bank for more than 5 years. Why? Because the Palestinians know that the IDF is there 24/7, and this keeps them cowed and afraid, "on their best behavior."

I feel saddened that I am calling for such a strategy against my own government, but they way things are going I feel it is necessary. The USCIS needs to "feel our presence." Everytime they hold one of these events we need to call in and let the USCIS know that we, too, are waiting for our teleconference. Everytime they open up an idea on their website we need to flood it about the I-130 issue. I no longer think that monthly letters are enough. We need to send them letters on a weekly basis, and then if that doesn't work it needs to be daily. We need to increase our media outreach, starting with the local papers first. We need to release our long-talked about video campaign. We need to make them hear us, we need to make sure that this time the House does not forget about us in the immigration bill.

I think we have reached a point where just posting a thread is not enough. We need to be a real committee, and we need members to take responsibility for certain projects.

I would suggest that the positions should be a general chariman/woman, a video campaign coordinator, a letter campaign coordinator, a media specialist/liason, and someone in charge of making our presence felt at the USCIS outreach events. And we need people who are comitted to solving this problem once and for all--after you're in you're in, even if your I-130 gets approved. Even if we get out of this, we need to remember those who will come after us.

Thank you and God bless.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhat the Hell is Wrong with the VSC

I just found out why they're so slow. Vermont is virtually the ONLY service center taking DACA's!!!!! While they did 939 I-130's  in November, they managed to complete more than 10,000 DACA's (I-821's)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What an outrage, this country has been given over whole sale to the illegals. I can't believe I worked for that criminal Obama's campaign for 3 months!
