K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOh gods, I'm shaking...
Thanks, everyone!

I signed up at the USCIS website for status updates, and it's telling me that the last update was 09/07/06. The NOA1 letter said that the notice date was 09/05/06, and I received the letter today on 09/09/06. Does this 09/07/06 date mean that I've been "touched"?

Wow... just... wow. I was JUST bitching today about how I sent my I-129F packet out two weeks ago yesterday and that I was wanting my NOA1, and I told my Réjean to hold on while I check my mail, and 'lo and behold, there it is.

If I get this worked-up over my NOA1, I'm probably going to have a heart attack when I get the NOA2. *LoL*

Oh man... *flipping out in joy*

Just sit patiently, it'll come .

I'm doing my best. Normally it doesn't bother me much, but it's been on my mind all day.

"quit-yer-b!tchin'; it's only been a month" lol ummmm yeah!!! Good one!

I know how you feel though!! I felt that way 6 months ago!

It gets worse, believe me! That's if you end up like some of us, lost in the "Forgotten Pile"

Oh, man, waiting since March... I feel for you.

I guess the topic title and topic description say pretty much all of what I feel right now.

It's weird how time seems to have flown before filing this visa petition. It felt like the time this year was zooming by at warp-speed. Now with the process in effect, it feels like time has slowed to a stop. I know it's all just psychological, but still... we're only about 1/4th to 1/6th of the way done with all of this.

I know, I know, "quit-yer-b!tchin'; it's only been a month"... it has just been one of those nights... I know everyone here can relate.

I need a beer.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow do you qualify to Expedite Case?

I was just going to see that I'd recommend looking through some recent timelines from London.

Even though Montreal is towards the slower end of the consulates, I know we'll be waiting 2-4 months JUST to get an interview after sending back packet three. Actually, the USCIS petition approval for us Montreal kids will be the quickest part of the process (hopefully). I hope that's not the case in London and it moves a little faster.

:star: Cass (bebop the great)

Oh, no... :( That's the consulate that my fiancé and I will be having the visa interview at. In fact, he lives only a few blocks away from it. I didn't think it would take anywhere near that long for an interview. :crying:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions now that we have NOA2...
Thanks so much to everyone who congratulated us!!!! :)

I have a couple of questions. We're going through the Montréal consulate, which I've heard takes 2-4 months to get an interview at after approval. I know I'll be fine getting my 3 years of tax transcripts now, but when should I be gathering the letter from my bank and employer and sending my paycheck stubs? If I get them now, they may be dated a few months before the interview. Is this ok?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOriginals of proof of meeting and NOA2 lost by Greyhound...
UPDATE:

Réjean FINALLY got his bag back from Greyhound today, and everything is in there. What a relief.
NecroticaFemaleCanada2007-01-22 02:24:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOriginals of proof of meeting and NOA2 lost by Greyhound...

First stop worrying. The evidence you may have lost if the bag isn't found was all original evidence submitted to USCIS right? If the consulate wants to see originals, can yuo show a lost baggage claim from Greyhound? AND do you have more evidence to show of the on-going relationshihp besides that which you sent into USCIS for the original petition?

I'm sure the bag will turn up, but in the worse case scenarioit doesn;t, I think you are still good to go. You will need to replace the NOA2 for adjusting status and that will not be a happy check to write but if you have more eivdence you will be okay I am sure. Hopefully someone going through your consulate will offer more reassuring advice about what evidence is generally asked for.

The baggage tag and plane ticket stubs were copies I made from the originals for the I-129F package. The originals I then sent on the bus with my fiancé, and it is those that are lost, along with the NOA2, and my tax transcripts and a copy of the whole I-129F package. Yes, we have other proof of meeting, like my fiancé's bus ticket receipts from his two trips here.

Another reason I'm so scared is that all my information is in there, name, address, Social Security #, copy of my birth certificate... I'm scared sh*tless of the possibility of identity theft.

Thanks for commenting... I'm just not of sound mind right now...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOriginals of proof of meeting and NOA2 lost by Greyhound...
I am in dire need of reassurance; I am in tears and am freaking the heck out as I type this.

My fiancé was here over the Christmas holiday, and he left on the Greyhound bus on January 1st. His bag was put on the wrong bus, and now it is missing.

That bag had the original tax transcripts, NVC letter... and worst of all... the NOA2 and my original plane ticket stubs and baggage tag from when I flew to Montréal to visit him last April.

Worst-case scenario, he doesn't get his bag back... I know that we'll have to pay $200 for a new NOA2, but what about the ticket stubs and baggage tag? I made copies of them for the I-129F package and still have a copy of them from the copy I made from the package, but I know that at the interview, they can ask for the originals. This wouldn't be enough for them to deny the visa, would it? There's no way I can get the originals back if Greyhound does not find his bag.

Also, if anyone has ever traveled by Greyhound and had their luggage lost/misplaced on another bus, please share... he's already made claims on the bag, and all we can do now is wait.

So much for me thinking that sending the documents with him would be safer than mailing them...

I don't even want to think about this one, heh. Réjean and I are both without insurance, and I worry almost everyday about the "what-ifs". Luckily, all that Réjean has ever had in the way of injuries are some cuts and scratches from his job. He's a woodworker, though, so it comes with the territory. Thank goodness he gets company-paid insurance that will kick in in the next couple of months or so. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about me, though... and I'm the one with all the health issues. sad.gif

Also, I'm sorry to hear about your ankle! Hope it heals soon.

I highly recommend buying health insurance ASAP. Today would be best. Even if it's some el cheapo Health and Prevention plan.

My wife's health insurance is ridiculous. $1100/month for the health insurance (single coverage, just her). $3,000 annual deductible and a $5,000 max out of pocket. She went in for thyroid surgery last month. In one day, it worked out to be over $32,000 in bills.

Health insurance isn't so much about what they pay. It's about the discount the doctor's give for "having" health insurance. $21,000 of the above bill was for the hospital bill. Yet they reduced that by $19,000, leaving us to pay $2,000. Since that was before the 3K deductible, we're on the hook for the entire $2,000 hospital bill. But how weird is that? You get a 90% discount for having insurance even though insurance isn't actually paying a penny for your surgery.

Then there is the anesthesiologist bill, the pathologist bill, the doctor's bill, there is still one more bill which is being processed that I don't even know what it's for. The doctor's bill was $7800 originally and then there was an insurance discount of $4830....That makes it $2970. We had to pay 30% of that ($890) and they paid the rest. By this time we were past the deductible.

$2,000 worth of anesthesiologist bills. Paid by us.

Looking at health insurance as the immigrant, I already learned about all the co-pays and deductibles and how they split up the percentages. But I had NO IDEA there would be 5 different bills for one procedure at the hospital. I thought the original hospital bill pre-quote would be it. You should have heard me when my wife said "that's the hospital quote, now we need to get one from the doctor." WHAT??? That's like paying the mechanic after paying the dealership when you get your car fixed. Don't the hospitals pay the doctor's?

Anyways, we're almost up to $4,000 in payments out of our pocket. And to think, her insurance costs over $13,000/year in premiums.

I wish I could, believe me, but right now we're trying to live off of $11/hour for the two of us combined. Luckily I'm starting a new job as of August 4th after being out of work for over 4 months, so I may be able to afford some temporary private coverage until my husband's insurance kicks in. Unfortunately I'm going to end up going past 63 days without insurance, which means all my health conditions will be considered pre-existing and won't be covered for who knows how long. *sighs*

CanadaHow did you start to build your new credit rating?
Réjean and I had to finance a car after the one he bought on Craigslist turned out to be a lemon. We went through a place called Carhop that has financing for cars for people with bad and no credit history. Even though the interest rate is nearly 20%, the financing company reports your payments every month to all 3 credit bureaus. With us applying for the car jointly and getting approved based on my credit (which is crappy, but not crappy enough for them to deny us), Réjean can start building up his credit.

I know this is kind of extreme, but as far as I know, it's working.

Thanks! I've had three different major things happen in my life that were actually accompanied by the sight of a single monarch butterfly soon after, so the butterfly release was extremely fitting. My mother knew how to raise monarch butterflies because of her prior work at the county nature reserve and thus was able to provide them for the wedding at no cost!
