CanadaMontreal Interview Waiting Room Thread
Hey everyone. My fiancé and I just got NOA2 last night, so I'm going to be hanging out a lot in this thread. :P I wonder when we could expect an interview date if we return all the paperwork in a timely manner...

*has no idea what to do now that we have NOA2*

CanadaPacket 3 not here yet...

Should I be worried yet? Can my fiancé just go to the Montréal Consulate and pick it up? :help:

Man o man..........I dont think he can pick up the packet in person.....in fact im about 99.9% sure he can't. You could however call and ask if it's been sent or even email for that matter. Make sure you put your case number from the NVC in the subject line. Email is less traumatic since you wont have to deal with possible crabby lady.

Thanks. I think e-mail is my next step. I've read the stories about that lady, and I seriously don't want to have to deal with that. I don't know why people are allowed to act like that when their job involves interacting with people.

CanadaBank letter question as it pertains to the Montréal Consulate...
I got the bank letter for $30. She even made 2 copies for me! Rock on.

Now if this frigging Packet 3 would just hurry up and get here...

CanadaBank letter question as it pertains to the Montréal Consulate...

Oh please believe me. Tell this to your fiance. Im 100% french ( ok getting americanized now:P ) . I sent to the Directeur de l'etat civil a english form to obtain 2 birth certificate in english and I added a note saying that both BC must be in english for US immigration purpose and that I would not accept it in french. Then 2 weeks and 30$ later, I received 2 BC in french. I called twice and had the same answer twice from dumb people, they told me that they never do that cause its the law, they cant deliver official papers in a language that is not the one in which it was filled in the first place. So I asked why nobody called me to inform me of that instead of sending something I didnt ask for, nobody could answer me and I was told they never refund. Finally I ended up asking by e-mail and a nice lady told me to write them a letter explaining the situation and why I was complaining, including both certificates. And finally 4 weeks later I received a credit on my credit card.

So they answer is no, hes never gonna get one :P, I tried believe me. I figured since its a bilingual province that this could be done, but no.

Just have him order a french BC if he doesnt have one already ( I already had one so thats why I returned the other ones) and have him translated. Again I can refer you someone that can do it and have it notarized.

The link I gave you is the one to get a BC, cause its gonna be delievered in french for him anyways. Even if he prints the form in english like I did :P

Mephys :)

Oh, I believe you. It's just that he doesn't believe me! He'll find out once he gets the birth certificate, I guess.

CanadaBank letter question as it pertains to the Montréal Consulate...

Im living in Montreal and last time I ordered a birth certificate I just mailed the form that I printed off the internet and I received it within 2 weeks.

He can dowload the form here birth certificate

On a quick note, if his birth was registered in french like me, all he's gonna get is a french BC. Then hes gonna have to have it translated. I had a translator doing it and he got it notarized for 17$. If you need the contact illl be glad to send it to you :)

Mephys

Sure! Thanks! Yeah, all his parents spoke was French, so it'll definitely be in French. He keeps insisting that he can get it in English, but I'll take that contact for him in the case he ends up being wrong. :P

Update: I went to a different bank branch, and the "Universal Banker" there is going to do the letter. It's going to cost me $30/hour, though... gods, if it's more than an hour, I'm going to have a heart attack.

CanadaBank letter question as it pertains to the Montréal Consulate...

My fiancee also had trouble with her bank. Bank of America (hers, at least) gave her a letter with:

- Current balance
- Average balance
- Date opened

At the bottom, it says, "If total amount deposited or withdrawn in the above accounts is requested for the past twelve months, please refer to copies of bank statements."

The problem we had was the same one you're having - my fiancee doesn't have any bank statements, because she went for the paperless (electronic) account option. So there's no way for her to get the statements (they don't keep 12 months' worth, online) unless she pays $20 per statement or something, and we just can't afford that.

So, here's what we did. Keep in mind that my interview's this Friday, so I will let you all know how well it worked:

First of all, my fiancee wrote a letter explaining the issue.

"Because I do all of my banking online, I do not have paper copies of any of my bank account statements. I have included a printout of my YTD earnings at <job>, as well as a paycheck model of my bi-weekly paycheck showing my deductions for taxes and insurance. My paychecks are also paperless, and are direct deposited into my checking account.

My YTD total with <job> is <amount> before tax, with <amount> in deductions. Prior to my employment with <job>, I was with <former employer>."

Then, she got her payroll department to make a paycheck model showing her year totals, how much she pays for company insurance benefits, etc. Then she went to http://www.paycheckcity.com/ and got it to calculate her 'take-home' pay (it deducts taxes, social security, medicare, dental, medical, vision, etc). She printed this out.

So, in total, we've got the affidavit of support, plus the bank letter, plus an additional letter from my fiancee explaining the situation, her paycheck model, and the printout from paycheckcity.com.

Hopefully this'll be enough to satisfy them. I'll let you know!

That's exactly how it goes in my situation, too. Since I do my banking online, I'm also paperless and only have the last 90 days' worth of statements online and they want to charge me for the rest of the year's worth.

I wonder if it would help for me to start printing out my statements starting now. My fiancé hasn't even gotten Packet 3 yet, so it'll probably take a few months for him to get his interview. If I get 6 months of statements to send to him, maybe that would also help.

Good luck at the interview!

CanadaBank letter question as it pertains to the Montréal Consulate...
Hey, everyone. I'm hoping those of you who have gone through the Montréal Consulate can tell me if they looked at your bank letter or not.

My bank (U.S. Bank) claims they do not keep easily-accessible records of deposits made in a year's time, thus they cannot produce the letter I need for the Affidavit of Support unless I pay something like $20 researching fee per statement. I'd need 9 of them since only the last 90 days' worth of statements are kept online. That would equal $180, if my calculations are correct. No way am I paying that.

The lady at the bank told me that if I want to calculate the figure myself from my check stubs and get back to her with an amount, she'll write the letter for me. I could do this, but it's not going to be completely accurate since I know my parents have given me small amounts during the year and I have no proof of those transactions whatsoever. They're amounts that won't make any impact whatsoever if they're left off the bank letter, but it makes me a little nervous nonetheless. I want to be able to back up that amount with proof of accuracy.

So, my question is... when you had your interview, did you need the bank letter?

Here's what I have thus far:

- Notarized I-134
- 3 years of IRS transcripts
- Employer letter (been working there 3 months so far, if that matters)
- Pay stubs (which I will certainly have many more by the time my fiancé gets his interview date)

I do make more than 150% of the poverty guidelines... more than twice than the poverty guidelines, actually, so I'm hoping I can possibly forego the letter.

Also, unrelated... how long does it take to get a birth certificate in Montréal? That's where my fiancé lives (just 2 blocks from the Consulate... we're lucky in that respect). He's set to get his Packet 3 any day now, and the only thing we don't have yet (other than my bank letter) is that. I'm hoping it'll be quick enough to get that we can just check it off on the checklist and send it back to the Consulate and get it in time for the interview.

Sorry for such a drawn-out post. It's 2 am and my mind isn't all here anymore, hehe. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm in the same sinking boat as you. My NVC letter was also dated November 20th, and my fiancé and I are also still waiting for him to receive Packet 3. :(

And the icing on the cake... I sent the original documents along with our original proof (including the $200 NOA2) with my fiancé on his way back to Montréal from his visit here because I thought it would be safer than mailing them... and what happens?

Good gods. I called them, and the lady told me that the forms were mailed November 29th, and that "he hasn't done anything with them yet". He never received them!!! We confirmed the address, and it was correct.

They said they'll resend them, so that's a good thing... I'm just so pissed-off now, though, because I feel this was a whole month wasted!

CanadaSTILL no Packet 3!!! NVC forwarded petition at the end of November!
I've been very patient for pretty much all of the process, but this holdup with my fiancé getting Packet 3 is seriously stressing both of us out. I'm trying to compose an e-mail to send to the Montréal Consulate, and I want to know if this sounds good...

Subject: Checking on status of paperwork, case # MTL********

Hello, my name is Pamela P*****, and I am the petitioner for my fiancé, Réjean B******. Our K1 visa petition was scheduled to be sent from the NVC at the end of November 2006, and as of this date, Réjean has not received the paperwork that he needs to fill out and send back so he can have his interview. Could you please confirm if the paperwork has been sent out yet? Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Pamela P*****

I'm also going to try calling them today...

I don't know what to tell you. Seems like you keep getting tripped up recently. Just keep at them if you don't get this packet soon. It will come - it has to.

I was hoping for this whole process to go smoothly for us, but looks like we've hit at least one snag.

CanadaBeing told 2 different things by the Montréal Consulate regarding Packet 3...
On January 5th, I sent out an e-mail to the Montréal Consulate (see this post) and then decided to call them. I was told that the paperwork was sent out on November 29th, and "he has not done anything with them". I requested they resend the paperwork, and the operator said they would.

Today, I got a reply by e-mail. It said, "We have just received the file and mailed information to him on Jan 5, 2007".

Huh???

*sigh*

In either case, I hope he gets that paperwork soon.

CanadaThe Packet 3 ordeal is almost over...

Man, I'm sorry. That blows. Do you think it's Canada Post, or the consulate goofing things up?

Maybe Réjean can 'move' the three months he wants to save up to while you're waiting for an interview, so you're not apart as long.

Thanks. I don't know which it is. Réjean told me that the Canada Post website said that a lightweight packet can take up to 6 business days to receive (!!!!), so it's somewhat possible. Amazing. Who knows, maybe we'll get Packet 3 in the mail before he can even pick it up next week. I could only hope.

I wish that's what he'd do. I'll have to talk to him about it.

CanadaThe Packet 3 ordeal is almost over...
Gods, what a f*cking mess this has been.

My fiancé called the Montréal Consulate after STILL not getting Packet 3 in the mail even though the e-mail said it was mailed out on January 5th, and they agreed to let him come to the Consulate to pick it up. He lives in downtown Montréal and lives only a couple of blocks away from there.

He can't pick it up until next Friday due to "looking like a hobo right now" according to him due to the fact that he has no other clothes since Greyhound lost his f*cking bag on the 1st as he was leaving here and still hasn't gotten it back yet, if he ever even will. Also because of leaving for work at 6 am or so in the morning and not getting home until 5:30 pm or so, and Friday is his weekday off. I am NOT happy whatsoever about having to wait YET ANOTHER WEEK for this, but at least it's going to be f*cking over soon.

<vent>
So I guess we're not going to have our interview until May or so... and he's already said he's going to wait 3 months after he gets the visa until coming here so "he can save up some money", which means I'll have him here probably no sooner than August.

I am NOT in a good mood right now. I just want this sh*t OVER WITH already.

CanadaI am absolutely beside myself right now...

If you explain that his lack of follow-though hurts your feelings because it makes you feel like you aren't a priority to him, perhaps that will give him a clue...

YES!!!! That is EXACTLY how it feels. Especially when he said he would send the checklist out TOMORROW, and this was after I got so upset over it! Salt in the wounds right there. I don't think he means it that way, but that is DEFINITELY how it appears. That's also how it appeared when I asked him to guard his bag with his life on Greyhound (that had the I-129F copy in it, plus the original NOA2), and he ended up putting it in the baggage compartment and then had a huge scare when they lost his bag (which he got back a few weeks later)... and the birth certificate thing...

You are so right...

CanadaI am absolutely beside myself right now...

Some people have a natural aversion to paperwork I think... Maybe you should take over the role from now on? My hubby actually is the paperwork guru, so he actually filled everything out, and I sent it in.. basically, he's the better one at detail stuff, so he gets to have the fun of doing it. Dunno.. I wonder though if he finds paperwork as overwhelming as I .. You might want to put together the Package 4 stuff to bring to the interview.. And set about 20 alarms off for him.. no better yet.. be there for the interview :) Good luck!

I did do pretty much all of it, but there are some things I can't do for him because I'm not there. I wasn't able to do the checklist for him. Plus I didn't have his employment info to be able to do the DS-230. I can't control him sending out the paperwork.

I have Packet 4 stuff ready. I've had it ready for months.

When it comes to AOS, though... I will be completely on top of that.

Thanks for the encouraging words.

Is there reason to believe that his lack of follow-through is a pattern? If so, you might want to have a thorough talk with him about how it makes you feel, or you're in for years of frustration ahead. Lived and learned THAT particular lesson with my ex....

Jen

I know what you mean. There have been some things that he has not done that has upset the hell out of me, such as, for whatever reason, him being so unwilling/putting off getting his birth certificate, even though I've been asking him for months why he won't just go get it.

I don't want to make him look like a bad guy. He's not. In fact, he's been better to me than anyone else has. He honestly believed that he should have waited to send the checklist because that's what the directions said and he didn't know that it was the checklist the determined when he got the interview. Even though I could have SWORN I told him that. *sighs* I don't know.

If I was in the position to where I could actually go there to hit him over the head with a frying pan, I wouldn't be so upset. -_- It's not the process... it's the fact that we're so far apart and can't see each other. I don't care what happens in AOS... at least we'll be together... this, though... is getting to be unbearable.

CanadaI am absolutely beside myself right now...

You know? there's just no coherence right now with regard to how Montreal sets up it's interview schedule. It's NOT necessarily "first come first serve" when it comes to when you sent the checklist back. A month or two (or three) seems to be "in the noise" -- a month delay sending the list back may not necessarily translate to a month delay for the date when the interview will be scheduled. A lot of the frustration w/ the MtL waiting room group is due to the fact that there's no real pattern to when they schedule the interviews or who goes when . . . So, whereas I'm sure that you want to go screaming off into the night -- I have a wierd feeling that we're all in some sort of backlog -- these CR1s/IR1s will go through - and then maybe they'll push a bunch of K1/K3s through. So, don't think of it as "being in line" -- think of it as being in a large pool of folks who have equal chances of getting the next interview date . . . (sounds silly, but it might help).

Thanks for your words. I'm trying so, so hard to look at the "bright side". At least I wasn't caught in the IMBRA #######. At least I wasn't the one whose fiancé lied about getting divorced from his ex-wife. At least I wasn't the one whose fiancé cheated on her, or beat her... or any other combination of terrible, irreversible things. It's so hard, though... it's bad enough to have to endure things like this when I have mental issues to begin with.

My fiancé never sent the checklist back with his DS-230. He just today had his medical and just today told me this.

ANOTHER MONTH WASTED. It took enough time for me to somewhat get over the fact that we lost 2 months because we couldn't get Packet 3 in the first place, and now I find out he didn't even send the whole thing back???

All I want to do right now is scream my lungs out. I thought we only had another month or so to go to get an interview... now I find out that we're not even in the running in geting an interview scheduled.

Thank you so much. :)

I've been thinking about the very same thing the past few days... that it should be when they receive the file that matters and not the checklist. But when did they TRULY receive it? When I e-mailed them at the beginning of January, they said they had mailed out Packet 3 in November. Then after my fiancé didn't receive it, I e-mailed them back and they said they JUST got the file. What the ####. I don't know which date to go by. -_-

So my dear fiancé FINALLY, yesterday, after 3 months of asking him, went to get his birth certificate and chose the standard processing. Needless to say, I'm seriously ticked-off since we've had enough delays the way it is, plus he's going to need to get it translated and notarized, plus I can't make any sort of pleas to the Consulate to give us a quicker interview date until he has it... anyway... they said he'd get the birth certificate in 3 weeks. In your experience, is this true? Or does it take sooner or longer than that in actuality?

CanadaIs there some sort of account that my fiancé and I can share?
Hey, everyone.

Does anyone have any ideas of some way that I can get money to my fiancé quickly for free? Like some sort of bank account that I can grant him access to? I've used MoneyGram the last 3 times to wire him money, and the $12 fee each time is getting expensive. I'd use PayPal, but it takes 3-4 days before Réjean can move the money to his bank account for some reason (maybe because he doesn't have a debit card on file with a Visa/Mastercard logo?) and my bank said I can't transfer funds from my account to a Canadian one.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

What throws a really big wrench into things is that I lost my job last week. I don't know how well that is going to go over at the interview if I don't manage to get a good job by then and the interviewer asks what I do in the way of work.

UGGGGGGGGGGGH! I am so sorry to read that :(

Can you get unemployment? Can you find an emergency joint sponsor? Or if those arent options did you already do the I134......signed as legal and true at the time u signed it......( i think you know where Im goin with this.......)
If you were closer , I'd come get ya and take u out on a good ole drunk !

Can't get unemployement (filed for it, though, but it's futile). My firing was considered "gross misconduct", and under Kansas statute, it disqualifies me, even though illness (disability-related), constant fatigue, severe stress, and my supervisor not working with me when I asked for help doesn't excuse it. I made the fatal (in a work-sense) mistake of not going to Human Resources with my issues sooner. Long story.

Luckily, yes, the I-134 things were all done in December, so that's covered. I'm just hoping that, at the interview, they either don't ask him what I do for work or that I have a good job by the time he has it. There's also no one that can sponsor us; all my family and friends are dirt-poor.

Do you happen to know how long the police certificate is good for? My fiancé got his in November, and we're coming up to the 6-month mark. If it expires in 6 months, he's going to have to get another one. *sighs* Heck, if ALL the documents expire in 6 months, we might be screwed, since I can't get another employer letter.
