CanadaMTL Timeline to Interview

On April 16 I posted :

Some update:

Packet 3 sent on December 8, case status = Completed as per Montreal, entered to their system, waiting for an appoitment to be scheduled.
Called today to MTL to find out if appoitment was scheduled.
As of today not scheduled yet, estimated time to be is June, July - got an answer over the phone,
she ( lady on the phone) mentioned that it takes 4- 6 month now as they have long list of applicants, previosly, when called on January 28 was told that it may take 4- 12 weeks from January

As it passed (12 weeks), I thought I may have date in the system... not yet

New update from LadyK1:
On April 23 got an appoitment letter with an interview date for May 30 .

It seems that MTL is scheduling December for May...

Posted this to let know to others how things are going as myself was looking others timeframes.

So, based on this, my fiancé isn't going to get his interview until sometime in August. And I say, yet again, MONTREAL HAS HAD OUR FILE SINCE NOVEMBER. My fiancé never even got Packet 3 in the mail; he actually had to pick it up!!!

We were supposed to send in proof of co-mingling for AOS? blink.gif Oops...

I don't think we showed any proof of that since I thought that all happened at the removing conditions phase.

Oh well; Réjean was still approved for his green card, hehe.

That's what I like to hear! laughing.gif

I imagine we'll have plenty of proof come interview time.

Did you send in the Vaccination Supplement, by the way?

tongue_ss.gif

I figure that if you send out the AOS packet right after you get married, there's not really much time at all to prove all the "joining your life" stuff.

I sent a copy of the Québec vaccination booklet that Réjean got at his medical. They didn't need it. *LoL* If your medical was done less than a year ago, then the medical results are in the sealed envelope and you won't need the supplement.

From this link:

Thanks to Krikit for creating these faqs!

Q: Why are K non-immigrant visa holders asked to include a vaccination supplement when filing Form I-485 to adjust status?

Some countries allow K non-immigrant visa applicants to defer their vaccinations until after they arrive in the U.S. If the beneficiary's vaccinations were not completed as part of the visa process, it is necessary to include the I-693a vaccination supplement in the application.

If the beneficiary's vaccinations were COMPLETED as part of the visa process
, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO INCLUDE FORM I-693A IN THE AOS SUBMISSION. All your medical information is enclosed in the brown envelope which was handed in at the POE. The envelope is then forwarded on to USCIS where it will be consolidated with the I-485 submission, once received. If you received a copy of the Vaccination Documentation Worksheet (Form DS-3025) from your Panel Physician, you may include a copy of that form in your AOS submission in place of Form I-693a.

Awwww Thanks so much, everyone!!!

I only just saw this thread now *sheepish grin*

I didn't get to go with FH to the interview 'cause we only got about a week's notice, but he said it went really well. He had to wait quite a while, but the interview itself only took about 10 mins. The interviewer only asked a couple questions about our relationship - when we met and where I work - and that the majority of her questions were military-related. (FH was in the Canadian Naval Reserves and is just finishing up his obligation.) I'll try to get him to write a better review here soon smile.gif

He was told he'd get his visa in about two weeks, though hopefully it's sooner!!

Thanks again, everyone!!!!!!!!

Oh I had a packet 3 delay too! We had moved and it came in August and it wasn't until december that I was told that my case had expired. I would have called them too!

sad.gif

Sucks, doesn't it? sad.gif

I had to cut the timeline in my signature due to length, but here's what it originally said:

11/21/06 - Called the NVC and was advised of packet having already been there and left!
11/26/06 - Received NVC letter in the mail.
01/05/07 - E-mailed and called the Montréal Consulate to find out what the holdup with Packet 3 was; was advised they sent out the paperwork November 29th!!! Verified address and asked if they could resend it, they advised they would.
01/08/07 - Received e-mail back from the Montréal Consulate saying that they just received the file and sent out Packet 3 on the 5th!!! Huh???
01/12/07 - Réjean called the Montréal Consulate, and they will let him pick up Packet 3.
01/16/07 - Réjean picks up Packet 3 from the Montréal Consulate.

Ok, so it was a 2-month delay, not 3. It was a 3-month total delay between this ####### and Réjean not mailing in the checklist right away.
NecroticaFemaleCanada2008-06-17 17:57:00
CanadaIf you only knew then, what you know now...
Oh, man...

#1: I would have called the Montréal Consulte MUCH earlier asking where the hell Packet 3 was. The delay added 3 months onto our visa journey and made it to where we were caught in the damn fee increase.

#2: I would have explicitly told Réjean to mail the checklist back to the Consulate right away. He held onto it for a month before I found out he hadn't sent it back.

#3: I would have found a way come hell or high water to go to Montréal and see Réjean before he moved here on 8/31/07. We went eight months without seeing each other, and it kind of broke me in a way that I have still not recovered from. I'm in counseling for it now, but it's not helping.

I believe the people at the USCIS phone center must have a horrible set up in terms of access to accurate information and support from more experienced people.

Guess what?

You know how I said I did Medicare customer service? Well, The Department of Health and Human Services (the department that oversees the Medicare program) was not my actual employer. Instead, Medicare customer service is outsourced to a contractor. So I was never a government employee, but an employee for a government services contractor.

The company I used to work for doing Medicare customer service also, at one time, had the contract for the USCIS call center.

Same company whose environment exacerbated my medical conditions, claimed to not be able to do anything about it, then fired me when I couldn't go back.

Figures that the USCIS call center reps don't know what they're talking about. Medicare wasn't a whole lot better.

(I did a damn good job, though! biggrin.gif )

CanadaHow Canada Stole the American Dream
Wow.

I think that both countries has its ups and downs. As for healthcare, yes, it is "free" in Canada, but from what I've read, if you need some sort of major surgery, you could be waiting months before you can get it and possibly die before it's your turn.

Also... earning more. Yeah, Canadians earn more, but then you pay a total of 13.5% sales tax (in Montréal... don't know what it is elsewhere in Canada) on everything you buy? That kind of eats up the savings right there. I remember the day after I got to Montréal to visit Réjean in 2006, we went to a grocery store to get food. Réjean made a comment saying he hoped that $50 would be enough for what few things he had in his cart... something that would have cost us $20 or so here in Kansas. The total came out to $49 and some cents. I damn near crapped my pants. Makes me glad sales tax here is in the 7% range.

Réjean told me a while back that he likes it better here than up there. He says there's more opportunity here than up there. Sure enough, the starting pay for the first job he got here was more than he was paid at his old job where he had worked for over 3 years! Plus he says he was shocked by how much friendlier people were here than in Québec.

Sorry if this is all convoluted because I have some serious brain fog issues right now... the point of all this is that the grass isn't always greener on the other side, no matter what side you're on. good.gif

I probably cant explain it well, but Insurance companies pay LESS for a procedure than you would if you pay out of pocket. There was TV piece on how one fellow was upset that since he didnt have any health insurance, his heart operation cost him like $200,000, out of his pocket. BUT if he had insurance, the hospital would have only charged the insurance company something like $50,000. His thinking was hey, I should only have to pay $50,000!! I'm just happy that we have good health insurance coverage. My wife could go be a private contractor for what she does, they make alot more $$$, but no benefits, where as her federal job has excellent benefits. One thing one has to look for when looking for employment!

It's because the insurance companies have contracts with the doctors and hospitals that dictate how much they will pay for the services. The doctors and hospitals are inclined to accept these contracts because they know that it means more business for them. This is usually the reason why you can only go to the doctors or hospitals that an insurance plan has on their list (i.e. HMOs).

This is what I get for working in customer service and claims for Medicare. I know way more about the system than I ever really wanted to. *LoL*

I think I've figured out the co-pay thing, but what I don't understand is how one knows ahead of time if treatment will be covered or not? Case in point, I saw my GP for a sore neck. SHE sent me to physio (3 visits), I did not ask to go. That didn't work, so the physiotherapist reported back to my GP, who then (GP) sent me to the orthopedic dr. Had xrays and determined that I have DDD. Orthopedic dr sent me for a round of traction therapy. OK, so in all of this, I had to pay the co-pays only. Then, a couple of months later, I get a bill from the physio saying that I had to pay for all of it! (approx $400 for 3 - 10 minute visits). Everything else was covered, but not the physio which my GP sent me to.

So, how do you know if something that your GP refers you to will be covered or not? I would have thought that since the GP's office has my insurance info, they ought to have known whether physio would be covered..... and at least told me "This might not be covered by your insurance", and given me the option to proceed or decline. At least this was just my neck, but I can't imagine if it were something more serious, where you really don't have time to weigh the options..... if your Dr says "You need to go for a CT Scan", then I'd probably think that I ought to go!! What does everyone else do? Do you tell your Dr "thanks for the suggestion.... I'll think about it and get back to you" and then call your insurance to find out if it will be covered? I guess coming from Canada, where everything is pretty much covered unless you're told otherwise, I am just used to assuming any referred treatment is covered.

What do YOU do to avoid costly, unexpected bills?

When you get health insurance, you should get an explanation of benefits that tells you what is covered or what is not. You can also call the insurance company's customer service department and they should be able to tell you what is covered and what is not.

I redid the letter of intent tonight and got the final package ready to mail to my fiancé in the morning. I read over the copy I had made from the original I-129F packet, and I noticed that I made an error!

"I, Pamela P*****, do hereby state that I am legally able and willing to marry Réjean B******, and intend to do so within 90 days of my arrival into the US using the K-1 visa."

Oops! *LoL!* I'm surprised that wasn't caught sooner, especially by the adjudicator at the CSC.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion about the updated letter of intent...
Is the updated letter of intent needed for the Montréal Consulate the same that we signed when we first filed for the I-129F but with a different date? I had read somewhere that the instructions for the updated letter of intent were in Packet 4, but since we're not there yet and I'm getting ready to send the rest of the paperwork that my fiancé will need at the interview to him, I'd like to include that so I don't have to send out anything after this shipment.

So if any of you can let me know, that'd be great.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVery concerned about the I-134...
I originally posted this in the Canada forum since my fiancé is going through the Montréal Consulate, but I'm posting this here, as well, to see if anyone else has been in this situation...

I lost my job in April, after the I-134 and supporting documents (bank letter, employer letter, etc.) had been prepared since December. My fiancé's interview is FINALLY, in two and a half weeks, on August 8th. I can fill out the I-134 and have it notarized again without a problem, can get another bank letter, but the job situation is really stressing us out.

The job I have now is not a permanent job. It's considered "long-term temporary" by the place I'm working at. The way it works is that we are hired on a temporary basis but have the chance to go permanent if there are permanent job openings available. It's considered "long-term" in the fact that the position is not anticipated to end anytime soon, if ever, but the letter is probably going to say I'm a temporary worker nonetheless.

Is this going to put my fiancé's visa approval in jeopardy? I have 4 years worth of tax return transcripts that show I made well over the poverty limits, I have paycheck stubs from my last job that the affidavit of support was originally based on plus the ones from this current job, I have about $1,000 in the bank right now, I make $15.66/hour (!!!!) at this current job, but I'm going to need to somehow get a new employer letter from them, and it's going to end up saying that I'm temporary on it. Plus it may be difficult because I'm still on the payroll of the employment agency until I convert over to the actual company (but still as a temp) on August 5th... yeah, 3 days before the interview...

I MIGHT be able to get the employment agency to put "temp to hire" on the letter... do you think that would be acceptable to the Consulate? I don't have anyone willing to be a co-sponsor, so if I can't manage to do this on my own, we're screwed. I am going to be VERY upset if my fiancé's visa is denied because of this... we've gone through hell in this process...

Thanks in advance for your help/advice.

CanadaJust received a call from the Canadian/USA border guard, and now I'm terrified!!!
I am so sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I am in desperate need of advice and consolation!!! PLEASE tell me if you've been in this situation!!!

My fiancé lives in Montréal, and he left on the Greyhound bus (or Coach Canada?) early this morning to visit me. This has been planned for 3 months. I just got a call from border patrol in New York asking me if I know Réjean (fiancé), and I said that he's my fiancé. BIG MISTAKE!!! We had agreed prior to him coming here that we would refer to each other as boyfriend/girlfriend and not bring up fiancé/fiancée to avoid hassles. Well, I'm so used to calling him my fiancé now that it just slipped out. She then hit me with questions like machine gun fire: "Fiancé? He called you his girlfriend." "What is he bringing with him?" "Why is he bringing his guitar?" "Where is he playing at?" "What bar is he playing at?" "Who is Lythos?" Oh my gods, it terrified me!!! I tried my best to explain; I said that we were talking about marriage, that he's bringing his clothes, his guitar, and that he was only going to be playing casually with my friends' band, which is Lythos, and that they're not professional and that they were only going to play casually at their house, which was true. After her interrogation, she said "thank you" and hung up.

PLEASE tell me they'll let him through the border!!!! She would have told me otherwise, right??? She would have told me that they were going to not let him through at the end of the call, right???

I did not expect this. I didn't think anyone would call me about him, but with his looks (bald, septum piercing, labret piercing, guitar, and his goddamn bullet belt that I begged him not to wear but kept telling me it would be fine since he's worn it crossing the border before), I should have been more prepared for this.

Please, please reply. I am in near-convulsions I'm crying so hard!!!
