CanadaAffidavit of Support

They only asked me for my 2010 tax transcripts.

They didnt verify originals on anything else. Just that and my AOS original signed papers.

I hope that's the case with a co-sponsor too... Is there anyone that has gone recently using a co-sponsor and can shed some light for me? Thanks!

CanadaAffidavit of Support
So, I have a few affidavit of support questions specific to Montreal.

1) How did you assemble your documents? Did you include a list of the contents or just hand the forms + supporting info all together?

2) As my fiance is an unemployed student, his mother is our co sponsor. We have the following information for each of them:

For my Fiance: I-134 completed, 2009 tax return (Last year he was employed), proof of school enrollment.
For his mother: I-134 completed, Copies of 2008, 2009, 2010 tax returns, copies of the last 3 quarterly statements for her retirement. Her retirement makes up about 65% of her income, and that number is well above the 125% requirement for her household. She also has a part time job right now. Should I get pay stubs/employment letter when her retirement more than covers the necessary amount?

Am I missing anything there?

3) The tax returns for both of them are reprints of the actual return from the copy they e-filed. Is this allright?

4) On the I-134 for question 11 "I Intend/Do not intend to make specific contributions to the support of the person(s) named in item 3", my fiance's mother wrote "Room and board as long as necessary". Is this an acceptable answer or should she be more specific? And for my fiance, since he technically has zero income, what should he write there?

Thanks for the help, the interview is getting closer!! :)

CanadaCanadian tax returns?

I didn't work in the US and still have to file taxes, Joint with my husband.

For ROC you need join tax returns! and you file taxes regardless of working or not.

My first year here I had to claim my Canadian income on the US taxes even though I had not worked here. Also had to claim my stocks from Canada on them. We got a HUGE return on our taxes too.

Good to know, thanks! :)
ralyseFemaleCanada2011-07-27 12:54:00
CanadaCanadian tax returns?

You have to file a tax return for your final year. Its called an exit return.

You also have to claim all that money on your US tax return and file for a special exemption because its already been taxed in Canada.

Out of curiosity, what if AOS isn't approved by the end of 2011 and therefore I don't work in the US whatsoever in that tax year?

CanadaP3 items (Montreal)

I wonder why they don't list these things on the checklist if they request them at the interview :/ I thought I was good to go but now I have to get more stuff from my fiance just to be safe. It makes me a little antsy since it could get lost in the mail (although that's unlikely since we're using FedEx). I was planning on just getting a photocopy of his birth certificate, not producing the original...

Oh, glad I saw this! I have a photocopy of his birth cert but we weren't intending to bring the original. Guess we'll grab that before heading back to Ontario on Monday! :\

Hey, everyone - my husband was e-mailed his waybill number on Friday - 1 week after his interview, so he should receive his passport and visa back by Wednesday and will be coming home on Thursday! YAAAAAY!!!!!

Congratulations! Glad to hear there's some being processed that quickly :)

CanadaVisa and POE

It is all finished!!!! I am already in Arizona. We got he email on Weds morning that my visa was available for pickup. We also found a truck at last minute so drove for 2.5 hours to get the truck, back to Edmonton, I went and picked up my visa and pkg, loaded truck and crossed border the next day. We went through Coutts. They never opened the truck or asked to see anything. We waited the 1.5 hours for a officer to do the paperwork. This was her first immigration so she wanted to make sure everything was done properly. No hassles. We arrived in Phoenix today. UHaul was great, no breakdowns at all. It took a long time to get that visa back and still have no explanation as to why.

Congratulations!! That wait must have been awful, but at least you're together now!! :)

CanadaDetailed Montreal Interview Review for August 11 2011
Awesome review! Since we had the same interviewer, I hope she gets your passport back as quickly as she did mine. Did she have you sign the DS-230? She forgot for me and when they opened my envelope at POE there was a big sticky note on it to have me sign it immediately at POE :)

Sometimes you just have to wait the three months. It stinks but there was a time when it was more like 4-6 months, so that helps to keep things in perspective.

For what it's worth, we booked ours in May and it's in August, and as much as it has dragged in many ways it's gone by a lot quicker than expected. (L)

I agree. We booked in May also and our hopes of moving it up were dashed when no dated appeared... but at the same time, you're waiting for a specific goal, unlike waiting for that NOA2. You know exactly how far away it is and that made time pass a lot faster :)

i selected the "ready to schedule" so that might be why..

and i just checked, i can still get July 12th

Oh, that is such a letdown :( It sucks that taking the time to pay in advance has backfired like this, that date would be perfect for us :(

Very tempting to become obsessed again and change it if possible...despite rescheduling flight fees for Jeff to get here and then our flight to Montreal. But like Lise, I need to stop, the more reading I do, the more paranoid and stressed I get. VJ is a great site for information when you need it, not when you're impatiently waiting lol. 61 more sleeps till he comes to Canada! Good luck on the rescheduling :)

I keep saying that we're done trying to reschedule... and then I keep checking. The most we could move it up now would be a week or so, but that week or so would really help... I just need to block the website from my computer or something, it's getting unhealthy LOL.

I'm happy to report I have an interview date, Sept. 14. I would still prefer an earlier date. Any suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated, or do I just keep checking the booking calander ? Still no package #3 but I have received an email confirmation for package #4.

Just keep checking, alas.

Canadak1-ers waiting for Montreal

Hi all!

I finally received my Packet 4 for my fiance, but the first available interview date was September 14 (yuck!). I'm going to keep checking back to see if I can re-schedule something for earlier, but if not... we'll be ok. Given the date, we're shooting for October 1 as a wedding date -- so I hope it works out! Crossing my fingers to get an earlier interview. Any pointers on how to do this?

Also, when I received my Packet 4 information, it said that my fiance needs to bring 'Evidence of Domicile' on the checklist. Can anyone tell me what they've done for this for their interviews? I'm a little confused...

I've been refreshing the interview booking for almost a month straight and the date has only gotten further and further away. It's probably advisable to plan for a later wedding date, at this point :(

(I didn't even want to set ours until I had the visa in hand but there's been some complications with living situations and jobs and parents and such, but we've made sure everything is refundable, should there be any delay)

Thank You for the advice. I called DoS today, and was informed I should have received Package #3 three weeks ago. My luck ! I am following your advice to send in the forms that would accompany package #3 tomorrow. I will then follow your advice on speeding up the interview. I sure appreciate the help. What address did you use for Montreal. I have seen several sugested here ?

This is the one I used last month, and my forms were processed very quickly:

CanadaInterview Monday!!!

Thanks, did you need the USC birth certif?
Any idea if having a 2010 tax return is enough or do I need more from the sponsor?

I had his birth certificate, though I wasn't asked for it. And my fiance doesn't work so we had a letter of enrollment from his school and for our co-sponsor we had her 2008, 2009 and 2010 tax transcripts and a statement of her retirement deposits. They only took the 2010 transcript and the retirement statement. That being said, this was Montreal, so I can't say about Vancouver.

CanadaInterview Monday!!!

I'm not sure but the instructions state that it should be signed in her full name- that's why it doesn't have to be done before a notary. But honestly I don't know if it will cause any problems. I don't want to worry you unnecessarily >_>;; I was really ####### about the whole process so... Maybe someone else can chime in? I probably shouldn't have mentioned it.

My fiance didn't sign his middle name, so I wouldn't worry there!

Canadain mtl for interview on wed and forgot my criminal record check!!!

Is there anything I can do? The envelope is on top of my books at home in Winnipeg. I do not know why I forgot it. I'm stresed out. I was thinking of possibly having someone try to mail it to me tomorrow but I doubt I can get it in Montreal by Tuesday.

You'd have to get it overnighted with a courier, most likely... I don't know that the consulate would accept a faxed copy, but you could also try having it faxed to your hotel if the courier option isn't possible?

CanadaPre-marriage jitters

It was entirely unsettling for me at 37 to stay at home and not work for the first 5 months.....we weren't worried about money, but I just couldn;t handle doign the housewife thing. I am very independent and have made it my business my entire life never to depend on ANYONE...so you can see how staying home and waiting for the kids and hubster everyday just about drove me over the edge!

I've only been here just shy of a week and wedding planning is taking up a decent amount of my time, but this whole "not working" thing has been such an adjustment since I left my job in July. I've worked since high school. I worked two jobs the entire time I was in university (And for one very horrible summer, three!) and just the fact that right now I don't have a shift and a schedule and any of that is already messing with my head.

We did adopt a cat yesterday though, and she's adorable and playful and taking up my time :)

But she brought some more paper gowns into the office so this time I put on two,,,one in back and front so I would not feel totally exposed.

Oh man, genius! Hands down, ignoring some one-off issues related to my personal doctor, the tiny-sized gowns were easily the most uncomfortable part of the entire medical. My entire back was exposed, it was so awkward!

CanadaCrossing Boder after NOA1

Pretty sure I wasnt sending off any signals...I get they are doing their job..I come from a long family of cops actually so I know what they are looking for.:)I use 2 crossings and I simply find one of the crossings the officers are jacka...the other ive never had a problem...

And i get kids will be honest but whether a 9 yr old "approves" completely inappropriate. Alot of 9 yr olds have issues with change and new step-parents. Luckily my DS loves my FI...ask him where hes going? who hes going to see? if hes been there before? when hes going home? but whether he approves...

I was simply asking IF "alien fiances/fiancees" get flagged in anyway...

Out of curiosity, what crossing do you usually find an attitude problem at?

And I agree, I don't think that question was necessarily appropriate :(
