K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat do I send to Montreal after receiving Packet 3?
All the documents for P3 should have been lsited on what you received, but the breakdown is here: http://montreal.usco...ument=visa_pkt3

What they're looking for is: Signed Checklist
DS-160 x 1
DS-156K x 1
DS-230 x 1
DS-156 x 2
Passport Pics x 2

Hi there!

I am a Canadian who is going through the K-1 visa application process. As of now, I have received the 'Packet 3' info and I've also done my medical. However, I do not know what the next step is. The letter in the Packet 3 says: 'Please do not schedule an interview appointment at this time; appointments can only be scheduled once the consular section has reviewed your case.'

It also says to please return the forms and checklist to the U.S. Consulate via the DHL Courier.

Problem is, I have no idea what forms to send. I can't find a definitive list anywhere of the documents I'm supposed to send to Montreal. I've looked on all the web sites, I've called the U.S. Visa call center, I've asked our lawyer, I've asked the doctor's office in Toronto, and I either get conflicting answers or no information at all.

Can anybody help me or point me in the right direction? I'm sure that people here have been at this 'Between Packet 3 and the Interview' stage. I would love to hear any info!

Thank you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresShould I attend my fiances final interview in El Salvador?

Ohhh, alright. Thanks for clarifying! Still new to all this :)

It's not really an issue in Montreal, if that's where you're headed. My fiance was with me, and they had it noted on the form, but they never requested to see him or anything, he just sat in the waiting room reading a book.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresANY LUCK SCHEDULING MONTREAL INTERVIEWS (K-1)

**MONTREAL INTERVIEW UPDATE**

I called the consulate today and asked when appointments would be available. She confirmed that September IS booked, but that nothing has been booked for October yet. She said they open up appointment dates three months at a time so October, November and December should be opening up shortly. You would think they will open them up in September so they can start filling October dates. I have a feeling it will happen for us soon! Everyone Pray and cross your fingers for us. We are feeling so weary :(

I really hate to be a damper but I don't know how accurate that is. There's VJers with October interview dates and I can think of at least two offhand who had November ones. I hope something happens soon :(

Thanks for responding. I called them earlier and they said the receipt number will show up after I schedule the interview. To keep checking for available dates. How long did it take you of trying before you got one?

Only about a week or so, but there were times people were waiting almost a month :(

My Page does not show a place for the MRV Receipt Number like yours does. I have the receipt number. Do I need to call and let them know what it is? Maybe that is why I am seeing that there are no available appointments at this time..

I don't think that would mean anything, to be honest. It's just the reality of Montreal that they often don't have appointments available and you'll have to keep refreshing :(

CanadaMontreal August 2011 Interviews!

Derp, I totally forgot about that page! Yes you're right. I guess I should read over the "waiting for passports from MTL" thread before posting questions in here. I'm confused about how you're supposed to get a waybill number if it doesn't show up on the website (which happened in your case) or if you don't get an email (which happens in other people's cases.) :S Are you stuck if that's what happens?

I guess then you fall into the "show up at DHL and ask" category? That would suck... hopefully one or the other happens for everybody, at least!
ralyseFemaleCanada2011-08-13 17:44:00
CanadaMontreal August 2011 Interviews!

I have a quick question! My waybill number will be displayed on the applicant summary page on the CSC website when my passport is ready, right? Right now the applicant summary page just lists my name, date of birth, reference ID and MRV receipt. It doesn't say "applicant status" or anything. Does it just look like this until it's ready? (I'm aware that seeing as my interview was on Thursday, it couldn't possibly be ready by now.)

Posted Image

Mine still looks like that, the waybill never appeared on the website. I just got the email with it, never anything else. The DHL sheet they gave me at the interview has a picture of what it was supposed to look like, with the waybill in that section that has your DHL location, if you got that sheet?

" The officer also reminded us to bring cash to pay the visa fee."

lucky you he didnt' make you pay..good sign of things to come

but do you think it would've have been in US or CDN Funds?

I don't know about the airports, but at the bridge it's always US cash (possibly credit card? I know there's no Canadian cash or debit because I've been in there while they've had to send someone back for not having an acceptable method of payment.)

 How great....I got the Loomis/DHL tracking number, clicked on the link, but says undeliverable as the last line item..not sure what to do now? any suggestions anyone? Is it safe just to show up on MOnday?

Yup! Undeliverable just means they're not taking it to your address and it's now okay to go in and pick it up! :) Make sure to call DHL and check the hours at your location before going in though, the Kitchener/Waterloo one is closed from 1230-230 every day.

And since we're all a big happy August interview family I figured I'd share my POE review here:

Bluewater Bridge - Sarnia/Port Huron

We arrived at the bridge at 9:15pm and it was really dead. When we pulled up to the first inspection, before we even said anything the officer grinned and said "You guys have to go inside!" We were confused for a minute but I realized the "do not open" packet was on the dashboard of the car, so he could clearly see it as we drove up. So he had my fiance put the hazards on, joked with him a bit about getting himself a wife and sent us over to secondary.

We got the standard reminder not to bring in anything but our paperwork and to leave purses in the car. The officer also reminded us to bring cash to pay the visa fee. We went in with the packet and my XRay (since the instructions say they might ask for it at POE) and were called right up since there was only one other group in there at the time.

The officer asked what my XRay was, I told him, he said he wouldn't need it and opened the packet. Right on top was a big yellow post-it with "You must have applicant sign page 2 of the DS-230" and I realized they'd never asked me to sign it at my interview, whoops! At least Montreal didn't delay me over that, just had me sign it at POE. So I did that and the agent started silently going through the packet. After a few minutes he asked when the wedding would be and how we met, then asked what was in the car.

He had us fill out customs declarations and started to question me on the process for AOS/EAD/AP. He said he was glad I knew the process, but told me I was allowed to come and go from Canada as much as I wanted *until* the wedding. I'd never heard that, but I didn't question it and have no plans on testing it out. He took my fingerprints and picture and issued the stamps/stapled the piece into my passport.

He handed us back the keys and wished us luck. We were about to go when I realized he's never had us pay the 6$ visa fee, so I asked him about it. He just shrugged and said not to worry about it this time.

We were out in about 20 minutes :)

Approved! :D Wrote my review already and everything :D

Left Brampton at 8am the day before, with only a few stops at rest stations for gas/food we made it to Montreal by just after 2pm. Stayed at Hotel la Tour Centre-Ville, which is by no means fancy (really outdated, not the most comfortable bed, weird room layout) but was relatively inexpensive and we were on the 15th floor and had a really nice view out the huge windows! There's also free wifi if you ask for an access code, but it is slower than dial up. The best part though, it's literally across the street and around a corner from the consulate. Unless you have to wait for the light to change, less than a minute walk! The parking lot for the hotel is much further away than the consulate is, even! We checked in, I went over all my documents and then we headed out with a friend of ours that lives in Montreal (friend from the site where Ramon and I met even, it felt fitting.) We had some dinner and saw some of the downtown area since it was a beautiful evening for walking and then headed back to the hotel. I checked documents again, took a shower and tried to relax and get some sleep.

I have a chronic punctuality problem, so we left the hotel at 6am. We weren't in line more than 5 minutes before there were two more people behind us, so I'm glad we were that early. The line grew and grew, I heard some others talking about VJ behind us which was nice! (Hi!)

They opened the doors at 7:30, asked for my appointment confirmation and both of our passports (as my fiance was with me). They then sent us up the stairs and asked for our belts and everything from our pockets. We went through the scanner and then were sent down the stairs to the basement where we sat right by the elevator. We talked to a couple other VJers and then we were all herded to the elevator, where any order we had arrived in got completely torn apart, which sucked. We were crammed in there pretty tight (all the smart VJ people at the back of the elevator, facing the doors) and when we arrived on the 19th floor is was a bit of a stampede to get out and get put in line for numbers.

I ended up with number C2. Very wuickly they started calling us by putting the ticket number and a booth number on a screen. I went up and was asked for my passport, my medical, my passport photos and they took fingerprints. He also wanted my appointment confirmation since it showed I had paid. I'd accidentally left that in the shopping bag I'd been carrying so I had to hop back to the waiting room to get it from my fiance, but the officer didn't seem to mind. He then told me they'd call me again when they were processing my file.

I sat back down and they kept calling numbers on the screen. Then a very fuzzy announcement said what SOUNDED like "C2 to window 11" but I wasn't entirely sure. Huge thanks to the fellow VJer who confirmed to me that's what they had said! So I went up and spoke with a nice lasy who asked for my birth certificate and a copy, my police check, my fiance's letter of intent, a photocopy of my passport's biographic page, and the affidavits of support + supporting info. I confirmed that all she wanted for my fiance was the form and a letter of enrollment for school and from his mother the form, her 2010 tax transcript and statements from her retirement (since that's the bulk of her income).

She looked over everything and told me to take a seat, they'd call me shortly, but as I was turning away said "Oh, I forgot! Are you registered for DHL?" I told her I was.

I wasn't sitting very long before my number was called again, I went to a both where a nice woman with long dreadlocks did my interview. She swore me in and confirmed my fingerprints and asked a few questions:

-How did we meet?
-What book series the website we met on is about?
-Confirmed what year we met. (She said 2006, I confirmed it was 2004 online and 2008 in person)
-Asked where Ramon goes to school and what his major is
-Asked how he proposed.

She was very soft spoken, so I had to ask her to repeat herself a few times which made me feel awful (I'm half deaf in one ear, so it may have just been me). Then she flipped through the file and frowned at her computer in silence for a couple of minutes. I was starting to worry, but she confirmed that she'd taken my fingerprint. I said she had then she laughed and said the computer was just being silly. She then congratulated me and said she could approve my fiance visa and gave me the welcome to the US letter and the K1 FAQ sheet and said she hoped my wedding went well.

All told, we were back at the hotel by 9am :D

It really is the easiest part of this entire process.

If anyone is going to be driving to Montreal via the 401, we just passed a bunch of signage that its going to be closed at exit 738 starting August 9th and that a detour will be required. Doesn't say how far it'll be closed or if it will be a long detour, but I figured I would share that.

My fiance filed his taxes late so they haven't been officially "processed" by the IRS yet and he can't get the transcripts until then. That's why I'm worried :/ He called them last week and they said it would be a "few" weeks until transcripts would be available to him. He's going to keep calling and asking though.

As to the letter of intent, I think you're right that the USC only has to provide one. I made one just because I have a printer handy so I figured I might as well. XD But the checklist only asks for one from the USC.

Good luck with your trip and your interview! I'm sure you'll be fine with everything you have. Also this is irrelevant but I live in Brampton so I'll make sure to send out good vibes tomorrow! XD

Oooh, okay. That stinks, though. Hopefully they'll look at everything you have and accept it without requesting you submit that after the fact1

And thanks!! :)

2010 tax return- this is what I'm worried about. They were filed electronically so he just has a print out of the return and his W2 but nothing else. I asked him to sign all the pages just because it seemed like a good idea. I hope this is sufficient because he's not able to get a transcript for 2010 on time.
<some other stuff about his 401K but I can't remember what it is exactly>

Our co-sponsor called the IRS on Tuesday and they faxed her the 2010 tax transcript within 30 minutes, if you're worried you could have your fiance fax that and then fax it to you?

Only thing you have that I don't is your own letter of intent. I thought only the USC had to provide an updated one? Better safe than sorry, I'll make one up right now!

We're leaving Grand Rapids for Brampton tomorrow, then driving to Montreal on Tuesday!
