Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Staying in Turkey
There is a hotel called Otel Cevioglu in Ulus, but it's near a rather...shady area. If you take taxis around, you'll be fine. I remember paying 6-7 YTL to get from Kizilay to Ulus. I am afraid that is all I know...sorry. I suggest you also look at this site, they have some good suggestions normally:

http://www.tripadvisor.com

I am also a huge fan of these sites and have used them:

http://www.couchsurfing.org

http://www.hospitalityclub.org

Good luck....and btw, what do you mean cheap? We managed to get a room at that hotel for 50 YTL a night...not cheap, but better than a lot of places in Ankara...

thanks to all you suggestions.

when i flew from IST to NYC this summer, i used expedia like a fool and the only cheapest fare was with THY. i paid maybe close to 800 dollars for it. i had a problem with some beeyotch from THY who made a big deal out of the fact that i had came from Syria to TR and was planning to go home. i even asked her at one point, because i was pissed "do you think my passport is a fake one?" and she was like "uh no but bla bla bla bla bla..." i made it a huge point to ask her name from one of her co-workers, write it down, look at her menacingly a few times while waiting for the flight, and then asking a manager for their customer service number so i can call and complain. i lazily never did, but i won't forget her anytime soon i go back. i was more mad because i have been to turkey 5 times before this and NEVER had any issues. i will try your suggestions, thanks again.

hi all,

ive posted in here a few times but havent really gotten a lot of advice sad.gif but i do have one question that im hoping people will help me with: recommendations for travel agencies in turkey, preferably istanbul, that i can buy a cheap ticket to the US with for my husband. there are no direct flights to the US from damascus, so he would have to go through their IST or Amman anyways. I got screwed this summer flying with Turkish Airlines and want to look for another possibility. Thanks a mil!

there's a chance our interview might be done there, hence why i ask. i only say that because my husband and i were married in turkey.

would this "chinese chick" maybe be ms. kim?

i had a funny experience in 2007 there when i got married.

went to the US embassy to sign an affidavit to marry from them. after i left, i lost my passport, like literally right after i left and was walking towards kizilay. i came back, she remembered me. i had to get an emergency passport at that point..i was so pissed off! but she seemed amused by it all. in the end, everything turned out ok. i'm hoping if we do get sent there, that she will remember me and us in general.

i like the embassy in general, have been there a few times. but never in this situation, hence why i asked.

thanks a lot.

i'm also now trying to figure out if it would be possible to have our case sent there versus damascus....

The I-130 form instructions are found here

on page two, top of the second column under heading 'What Documents Do You Need to Prove Family Relationship?,' item A says to submit a copy of your marriage certificate.

canim....that's my point. i am doing the NVC thing now. i already sent a notarized copy of my aile cuzdani in. but now we are at the point where i need to send in info for NVC...this is what LingChe's NVC list says:

b. Send your IV Package (USPS Express mail gives tracking and essentially insures delivery)
Below are the package contents:

· BARCODED Cover Sheet (to be printed from web when your status is PAID online for IV bill)

· You OWN cover sheet listing what documents are in the package, so they're easy for the reviewer to locate

· Completed DS-230 part I & II and ONLY part I signed by beneficiary.

· Photocopy of the beneficiary's passport biographic data page.

· Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s birth certificate.

· Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s and petitioner’s marriage certificate.

· Original police certificates of the beneficiary.

· Original/certified copy of military record, if applicable.

· Original/certified copy of divorce decree, death certificate, etc. of previous marriage, if applicable.

Make 2 extra copies of this package. Send 1 copy to the beneficiary

This is why I want to confirm....this list says this. I can ask hubby to go to Turkey to get a certified copy, but we really don't want to go through the hassle. He is at a job that he can't just leave. My cousin however lives in Ankara and I am wondering for that reason if any old person can just waltz in one of these offices and ask them for a certified copy of my marriage?

On a side note: NVC sucks! Sucks sucks sucks....talked to them twice already.....I don't think these people know anything? Just read from placards or something?!?! I always get different answers from people....

So, that's why I'm here....

Thanks....

Enrapured - we were.

for the purposes of the I-130, we made a photocopy of every relevant page, including the translations key pages in the back, of our marriage book. When your spouse goes for the interview, they'll need to bring the actual book. Otherwise, certified copies are not needed.

That said, if you must get one, requests to the office are extremely SLOW and may not reach your hands in time. You're better off going there in person, if able to do so.
awaterlily:

I thought I'd need to send in my original marriage certificate to NVC? Wouldn't this then be sent to the embassy when my husband gets his interview scheduled? He has a translated/notarized copy of our marriage certificate right now, and I have the original aile cuzdani...

Question: did anyone marry in Ankara? I wrote to the Cankkaya Belediyesi office to ask for certified copies of my marriage certificate but never got a reply....is there a specific office for this in Ankara? Or does it matter where you married?

p.s. I watched Peri Tozu the other day flying in with Turkish Airlines from IST and it was great...highly recommended. good.gif

Thanks smile.gif
hi again smile.gif

well, i am wondering which embassy would be the safer bet to get through...he is actually in talks with someone to get a job there and hopefully it works out, turkey is a lot easier for both of us to deal with. i am getting turkish citizenship via my mom and that works a bit for us as well. but i hope as well that we can request that it be in turkey if anything...syrian ok is ok i guess too.

Oh, you're here. It doesn't really matter that you married in Turkey. His interview will be wherever he has residency. If you both move to Turkey then yes, the interview will be in Ankara. If he stays in Syria then that is where he will interview. For DCF you are both supposed to have residency in the country from which you apply. Also, you are supposed to have held residency in that country for 6 months before you apply for DCF.

Quick question: how would you all rate the Ankara embassy, its services, etc?

I was married in Turkey and before I could do so, I had to file an Affidavit to Marry at the embassy. I dealt with a Ms. Kim who was really nice. I happened to have lost my passport the day I went and they reissued me another one within 2 days. I managed to get everything together re my paperwork and got married a week later in Ankara. My husband is Syrian and I am American, however. I am guessing that just because we got married in Turkey, the interview would be there...am I correct in my ruminations? Also, would they be ok with me being there when he gets the interview (hopefully sometime soon?!)

This bothers me, what does it mean...for someone like me? I was married in Turkey with my Syrian husband; we tried to live together last year but it didn't work out (that was for 2 months). Then we just spent the past 2 months together in Syria, but I had to come back here to work...we didn't live together per se. Will this be a problem for me?

Hi,

I don't post much here anymore, but I'm still around. Anyway, reading this makes me remember how hard the wait was. I feel for you all still waiting. We were originally denied as well, but had a baby "before the husband's arrival", and I think that helped with them finally pushing it through. But the denial came after the baby, even though he had pictures, birth certificates, letters, emails, plain tickets, hundreds of pages of chat, phone logs, etc. Fortunately for us, it was temporary and he was given the visa soon after.

Sometimes I think they deny, to see if you are really up to the task, and to see how many people will wither away and not return. Keep at it though all of you that are still waiting, and make sure to dot your i's and cross your t's. Don't lie about anything, and get every sort of information you can.

I think it also helps to have coorespondence from your SO with people you personally know, as well as letters of recomendations from family who feel the relationship is valid. I did get many notorized letters from family, as to the validity of the relationship and that seemed to help.

Best Wishes

Jodi
