oooooooo....between csc and their excessive coffee breaks that appear to last friday-wednesday, my fussy maid of honor with her " I'M ONLY INTERESTED IN STRAPLESS DRESSES " after last week only being interested in halter tops, and my burnt hand reaching the ever so itchy healing whilst still being sore to the touch stage....i'm gonna strangle someone or at least lob something across the room.

wedding - stress: i can hear you.
i'm ending up planning the wedding all by myself bc my stupid sister is as ignorant, arrogant and mean as it gets. her comment to all the trouble with the visa was: your fault if you chose an american.
i organized her wedding 3 years ago, and now she's such a B!TCH.

E. is currently working 18+ a day and i really can't bother him.

i should have chosen to have bridesmaids, that way i would have slaves to help me!!!!!!! (i would threaten them that they will get pink baby-doll dresses if they don't agree with the decent ones i would suggest).

i start to get the point why people fly to vegas....

@deb: hope your hand will feel better soon!

hi guys!!!

i hope that you all enjoy your weekend!

i guess it is a good idea to get the police cert. already, and maybe even to look into doing the medical already. these things are good for 6months, right? i am currently only working part-time as i have a hard time finding a temporary job. nobody wants to hire me bc i'll be leaving in a couple of months anyway. sad.gif . so it's probably a good time to get all these things done.

@ jen: we are still waiting for the "ok-to-go"-approval of the head of the church (kirchenrat). as we wanted to have our ceremony this december. time is running and we want to send out the invites ASAP....

there is one thing a realized this week: this whole immigration-visa-thing is asking so much from our relationships, that i get the feeling that our relationship is so strong that it seems as if (besides the adjustment period, i am VERY MUCH afraid of that one) there is NOTHING that can break us.

the adjustment will be hard. i guess it would be easier if the beneficiary could work right away. but to basically sit at home and wait.... i guess i will try to do volunteer work or something like that.

SO DEAR FELLOW FILERS:
either way, WE SHOULD BE PROUD!!! we follow our hearts, we take risks, and we are willing and looking forward to commit our lives to our loved ones. HELL; YES; I AM PROUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no immigration-related issues should make us feel bad, because we are fighting for the BEST THING IN THE WORLD!!!!

will go to church now and pray for a bunch of NOA2's for all of us! smile.gif

hi guys!

we tried to pull all kind of strings possible to do the fake-wedding (ceremony in a church only, without any legal strings attached) in germany this december.
a few facts:
you can do a "real" church ceremony in all countries where church and state are seperated. the state doesn't get to know whether you are married or not, and you are good. in Germany, Austria and France for example you ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE A CHURCH WEDDING WITHOUT A LEGAL WEDDING BEFOREHAND!
in germany, england, austria and france this DOES NOT WORK. it works in the US though, because there you can legalize your wedding whenever you want to do so!

@ jeraly:
first: try to do the math: NAO 2 on december 5th would mean that the embassy in London (or whereever) receives it Jan 5th latest. If you have your paperwork ready to send it to them the day you receive Pack3, you should be fine! if not, you could theoretically fly to the US and have a church-only ceremony, but you could run into trouble at the POE...

We're having a religious ceremony in Germany before the legal wedding in the States. You are allowed to have a church wedding in Germany, it just won't be legally recognized there, which is what we want anyway so that we don't break any US Immigration laws. In the US if you have a church wedding you must have a wedding license and it must be signed by the minister and the papers filed, so it WILL be considered a legal ceremony.

wow! I'm kinda curious how you guys made that happen! our priest is currently filing a serious-hardship-thingy with the chief-priest to hopefully make that happen for us, too. otherways they could only do a "blessing", but not the real wedding ceremony. sucks big time. what church are you at?
we will get to know if we can have the church-wedding at christmas hopefully next week....

Almost!!!

Have a bit of a favour in case anyone here is better at this than me!!

Jeremy is coming over for Christmas (yay!!) but only for a few days although they can be kinda flexible. The dates we are putting in are 21st Dec until 27th Dec as we have a Christmas celebration with my Dad on the 22nd (poor J is going to be sooo tired!)

Everything at the moment seems to be extortionate! And not just because we're being stingy but more expensive than it normally is at that time of year (and we've been looking for the past couple years!)

Anyone have any bright ideas/good sites to check?!

funny enough delta.com often has really good deals. oh, and often it works really well to book the flight from the hubs of the major airlines whenever it is only a 2h drive to get there.
we noticed last week when E. booked his ticket for christmas, that the tickets are $200 more than last year at the same time. crazy world.

I still think it would be great if some of us several UK-ers got our interviews same day!

yes Nick is here with me just now and I know I'm lucky but we still face the same uncertainty. It is some comfort. He goes home to nebraska on 6th December. It's going to be hard being apart then after spending a full 6 months together and being used to knowing that he's here. In someways in that respect it may have been easier to have a couple of shorter trips. I just keep having the same dream in which my visa is declined.

hey, enjoy your time together! with a bit of luck you will already have your pack 3 in hand by the time Nick leaves!!!!!

Eric keeps telling me that we win either way, no matter how long the process takes, no matter when the wedding is, the important thing is, that you guys WILL BE MARRIED and you will be LIVING TOGETHER!!!!!! smile.gif

i had a dream last night that i had my interview even before christmas (I have the flue and take heavy medication wink.gif )

money is a big issue. eric and i are incredibly fortunate, as he is in germany for work a lot this year, he's been in germany for all of july and will be there from november till january. but on the other hand i am stressed out abt the AOS-process. we won't be allowed to work for at least 3 months, and, we might need stuff to get comfortable in our new lives. it will be hard.

my parents want to visit us in that time, but we only have 1bedroom and no guestbed or anything, and surely no money to move into a larger apt and buy furniture.

money plays a big role, and i hate it. international relationships are always a real bummer on your bank account.

Why can't either of you work when you get to the US? The US citizen has no restrictions against working.

Also if your point of entry is JFK airport in New York the beneficiary might be able to get approval to work for a few months as he/she enters the county. It's not a long time, but it might allow some work at a temp agency to help pay the bills.

oh, sorry, with WE i was talking abt the foreign fiancees.
sure, JFK is an option, but you can only work with that approval until you get married, and then you're caught in the AOS limbo anyway. we will probably have the wedding the day after I arrive, get rid of the paperwork and then have our beautiful ceremony in germany a year later. sucks, but the ceremony in germany is our big dream.

no touch. no nothing. we are getting serious abt ditching our K1 and running the risky-route of going for DCF, risking that they don't accept the petition bc of the 6 months residency-rule. that would make our germany-winter-wedding in december true and we would escape the AOS and AP-#######. I'm so fed-up with this CSC-waiting marathon.

Well we have decided to take the risk. We are booking our wedding date!! Going to be last week in April, just waiting on confirmations. That will be 9months and 3 weeks from filing date. So far waiting on 2 venues getting back to us, one is a gazebo in a rock garden in Kearney, NE. Which will be nice. Other option, if I can drag some cash to help out from my parents will be a VERY old church in Grand Island. So as long as I can get everything prcessed including interview (hopefully successfully) by early March I'll be happy.

wow, thats great!!! i guess i would vote for the old church and for a dress with a LONG train wink.gif
we are thinking abt trashing the k1 and going for DCF instead. that way we could have our winter-fairy-tale december 29th wedding and escape the AOS, EAP and AP torture. we will call the embassy tomorrow to check if it would be possible. keep your fingers crossed for us smile.gif

hope everybody has a great weekend!

I've been warned about NE weather.....FREEZING in winter (same as scotland then).....ROASTING in summer (not good as I shut down at 75F max and it goes over 100F)......then tornados inbetween (not looking forward to my first tornado experience)

AZ for you....isn't that desert???.......oooooo ####### that.....my scottish blood couldn't cope.....I don't do heat well!

NOW Alaska......that I could do!!!!!!

We're getting married in AZ and I'll be living in CA so all pretty warm - beats the crappy English summer though!! Tornadoes I am sure you will be fine with - I have earthquakes to contend with so between us we could perhaps develop unnatural skills in weather-stunts and get jobs as stunt people in Hollywood... or something... ;? Only experienced one earthquake but it was little. There was a massive wildfire a few miles from us as well (100sq miles or so) last summer so it is all very exciting(!)

AZ is kinda desert but where we are getting married is beautiful smile.gif It has trees and everything!!! You can see pics on my facebook - look up my Sedona album.. or I could stop being lazy and find it...

http://www.facebook....mp;id=739675434

It really is very beautiful smile.gif

Alaska... I think I would get a bit too cold - will def visit there someday though! Have to visit every State!

ARIZONA! thats where we will live! eric works in tucson, thats only 2-3 hours away from sedona. Sedona is a beautiful place, the red rocks on the one hand, and then these spiritual freeks on the other hand....hehe. we just spent the last weekend there.

we will probably do the wedding in vegas, really freaky, and then the big beautiful ceremony in germany next winter. the american wedding industry is so scary, i really don't want to have my ceremony there. as long as you don't spend 25K on your wedding you are considered an outcast. CRAZY!!!!!!!

the dress. the dress. the dress. i can't stop crying. we were planning on having a religious ceremony for our families and friends, in germany right after christmas. now we just got notice from the priests that they would risk their jobs if they would do it, due to the legal link between church and state in germany. you have to be legally married first. what we obviously cant.
so. i just bought my dress. it fits the most perfect. i even already got the shoes. for a weddign in 2 years or so. we want to have our ceremony in germany whatsoever. i means the world for us. my sibblings can't afford plane tickets to the US as they have a bunch of kids.
want to have a peek at the dress?

yes, it was unbelievable!!! whenever i was entering the US on my J1-Visa or on the Visa-Waiver in November and in March, they grilled me, it was insane. this time i entered through philadelphia and it was just:

immigration officer: having a sip of dr. pepper
immigration officer: grapping a handful of peanuts and starting to chew
immigration officer: what are you doing the US?
the chick: visiting friends.
immigration officer: taking another sip of dr. pepper
immigration officer: slight burb
immigration officer: bye.

Geordielover...we have the opposite problem....my parents here in scotland (my dad is from Jesmond by the way and I have lots of family there) are the ones that keep trying to talk me out of going. Nicks parents are great support. My parents are stressed about our age difference which is no biggy for us....I'm 26, Nick is coming up for 21. (my toyboy). I have very conservative parents who still haven't given up moaning that I went to art school to persue an art and photographic career (not a real degree or job apparently).

hi weedebz and everybody!

oh my! yeah. and now imagine your parents' reaction if Nick was divorced. My parents are having an extra hard time with eric being divorced. i'm the youngest daughter and really really close to my parents. so they and most of my friends are trying to talk me out of it. it's really painful for me. i wish they were just happy for me.

and now, everyboby is extra-worried bc i am in the US, visiting him bc i just graduated. where is the sense in signing a one-year contract if i might be in the US in half a year? so i decided to just take 6 weeks off and to go to Arizona. BIG worries and complaints from everybody.

BTW: i made it through immigrations WITHOUT any question being asked, i had binding ties with me, but the immigration officer just put the stamp in my passport and told me to walk on :)

And, to add for those who are considering visiting their loved-ones during the K1: I entered the US on July 27th on a visa-waiver (europeans are very lucky when it comes to that), after our NOA1 through Philidelphia without ANY question being asked. i was as nervous as possible, but ..... no problems at all!

our rule for the invitations was:
nobody is invited who didn't send us a brithdaycard in the last 2 years smile.gif
we wanted it to be extra personal, and to be able to spend time with all of our guests, to walk around from table to table. we planned to be the waiters for our guests after dinner is over, and to walk from table to table serving them wine and beverages, just to get in touch with them.

We can get a bottle of wine, maybe some nibbles (crudites and houmous for me tongue.gif) and just talk a load of rubbish about anything and everything - we can share funny stories, jokes, games we found online and just have a good ol' fun time?!

Lemme know what you think - we can invite friends to this thread for the occasion!! laughing.gif

sounds great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Navarre - I couldn't get my head round it for the life of me but knew I had seen it somewhere!! I'm here often enough and the threads I visit are busy enough that I don't think I need them for the time being!!! biggrin.gif

Ok guys - you're not going to believe this.. But I think I might actually go make myself a hot choc (diet starts after Christmas again:P) and go downstairs *gasp* to watch TV and avoid that damn USCIS website - maybe it will hold news for me when I get back.. but then again maybe not biggrin.gif

oh man, don't talk about diet... only 15 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey, aly: by the time you get your NOA2, the NVC-backlog will be gone and you will have your interviewappointment the same weeks as we do good.gif

if it burns down I'll cry...simple as that.

I know I'll have a moan about any effect on the already painfully slow processing and how everything seems to be against our file getting to the top of the pile......but thats nothing compared to those people out there who have lost everything. My heart goes out to them.

it seems to unreal to imagine that nearly 1million people are being evacuated. 1million. that is twice my hometown. fire scares me to death. we have at least 8 smoke detectors in our house. even candles and matches make me freak out. i can't imagine how scared and frightened these people must be. and imagine the kids!!!!! the great thing is, that americans are SOOO helpful when it comes to disasters like this. everybody is donating clothes and food for these poor people. in germany people would just let you starve as long as you don't die.
