US Embassy and Consulate Discussionpackage 3 - whats next?
hey guys!
I am new here and I hope I will find some help.
I am from Germany and I just got a letter from the American Consulate in Frankfurt about the package 3.
So I am starting to collect the required papers.
I am still a little bit confused about the next steps.

As I understood I have to send the DS-230I paper to the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt as soon as possible.

Is that right or do I need to send them more papers?

What about form DS-156, DS-156K and DS-157? When do I send them out or do I just bring them to the interview?

Do I wait until they contact me and give me an appointment for the interview or do I have to contact them and let them now once I have all the papers collected?

Thanks for your answers.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-230 - Social Security Card - please help
Hi guys!
I have some questions regarding the document DS-230.

I have already a Social Security Card.
Therefore I think I have to mark the following questions with no. To mark it with “Yes” would mean I don’t have a Social Security Card and I want to obtain one. Or did I misunderstood something wrong?

Question 43a:
Would you like to receive a replacement card?
- Yes/no
Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you a SSN and issue a card?
- Yes/no

Question 43b:
Consent to Disclosure: I authorize disclosure of information from this form to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Social Security Administration (SSA), such other U.S. Government agencies as may be required for the purpose of assigning me a SSN and issuing me a Social Security card, and I authorize the SSA to share my SSN with the INS.
- Yes/no

I would mark all three questions with no, cause I already have a Social Security Card.
Can someone give me feedback who had the same problem?

Thanks for your help.

Do not glue anything - let the Embassy/Consulate do that - just bring the photos

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-156 - can I put "None" as an answer????
I have a question regarding DS-156.

I am not sure if I can put in “None” or “N/A” for some questions.

Question 8: Other Surnames Used. Question 9: Other First and Middle Names Used. Question 14: National Identification Number

On the bottom is the following advice:

“When “None” or “NA” are entered into any of the following the fields: “Other Surnames Used”, “Other First and Middle Names Used”, and “National Identification Number”, the text will be removed by the EVAF software from the data in the 2D barcode. If the applicant’s name actually is None or NA the post must enter the name manually into NIV or RDS. The following fields have been removed:
- “None” was removed from the 2D barcaide for item 8 (Other Surnames Used)
- “None” was removed from the 2D barcaide for item 8 (Other First and Middle Names Used)
- “None” was removed from the 2D barcaide for item 8 (National Identification Number)

Therefore it should be no problem to answer all questions with “None”. Same for Question 18. Spouse’s Full Name. I would put “None” since I wasn’t married yet. Or did I get it wrong?

I am just asking cause I was reading in some of the discussions here that to write “None” in the DS-156 causes problems.

I also wanted to know if I have to glue my photo on the form or do I just bring it to the interview?

Thanks

But they ask for it on document DS-156 Question 14

It also says 'if applicable' - Germany doesn't have a Natl. ID either (I don't believe) - Canadians do (and I assume other too).

Hey guys!
How do I know if I have a National Identification number?
I was studying in the U.S. three years ago. I had a student visa. I have a US driver license and a Social Security Card. I also obtain an alien registration number due to OPT program after my study, which allowed me to work for one year in the U.S..

Can it be that I have a National Identification number?
What is this number and where can I find it?

US Embassy and Consulate Discussiontwo questions regarding DS-230
Hi guys!
I have two questions regarding DS-230.

Question 33: List below all educational institutions attended- I am still in school and I will finish my MBA in 03-2010. Do I put in the field From/To “03-2010” since it is not possible to put “present”? Or do I put the current date and explain on an extra sheet that I will finish school in 03-2010?

Questions 35: List dates of all previous visits to or residance in the United States. (If never, write “never”) Give type of visa status, if known.

It is mentioned to write down the “A” number. I have a “A” number, cause I was taking part in the OPT program in 2007. After that I entered the US on the waiver program three times. Do I put the “A” number just one time in the form or also behind the three times when I entered the States as a tourist?

Example:
From/To (mm-yyyy)-------Location-------Type of Visa---------“A” Number (If known)
03-2009 until 05-2009-----San Diego-----Tourist visa----------do I write my “A” number down?
08-2008 until 10-2008-----San Diego-----Tourist visa----------do I write my “A” number down?
02-2008 until 04-2008-----San Diego-----Tourist visa----------do I write my “A” number down?
08-2006 until 10-2007-----San Diego-----F-1 visa and OPT----I will write my “A” number from my OPT card down!

The three times I was entering the U.S. as a visitor I didn't work, do I have to write down the "A" number anyways?

Thanks for your help

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionbirth certificate - translation - certified copy?
Hey guys!
I was born in Poland, but grew up in Germany. I have the German nationality but of course a Polish birth certificate.
I know that I have to translate my birth certificate by a competent translator into German or Englisch. What do I do after this? It is required to bring a certified copy to the interview, which can be done by solicitor. Do I have to certify the translated copy by a solicitor or is the translation by a competent translater enough?

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionpolice certificate please help
Hey guys!
I have some questions regarding the police certificates which are necessary for the K1 visa.

In the instruction for the visa it says that every applicant is required to submit a police certificate from the police authorites of the country of nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of sixteen.

1) Germany
I am living in Germany and since I have been sixteen I lhave lived in two German cities. Do I need a police certificate from each city or just one for Germany?

It is also mentioned that Police ceritficates are requiered from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least one year.

2) USA
I lived in the USA for 14 months (studying and working - F1 and OPT). How can I get a police certificate from the US? Can my fiancee pick one up and send it to me? What papers does she need to do this? Copy of passport and a signed letter, which states that I am fine with it that she picks it up for me? Do I even need one from the US, since the embassy should have access to my records?

3) Poland
I was born in Poland and lived there the first 5 years of my life. Do I really need a police certificate from Poland. I doubt it I mean I was five when I left the country, just want to double check.

thanks for the help

Question 2:

Hi guys!
one short question. In Germany it is a obligation to do military services for 9 month after high school. Instead of this everyone has the opportunity to do social services instead. I did this.

For the visa interview it is necessary to bring military records. It does not say anything about social services. So I don't need to bring anything? Just want to double check.

Two short questions:

1. I have to bring one certified copy of my birth certificate to the interview.
Do I have to bring also one certified copy of the birth certificate of my fiancée? We already provided one normal copy of her birth certificate with the first package (I-129)

2. I don’t have the copies of the first package any more (I-129). Are they necessary for the interview? Should I print them out one more time and sign them and take it to the interview?

So I guess I will get my visa in the end of this year or beginning of next year, which is fine.

My question:
Can I travel in the meantime to the U.S. for two weeks to visit my fiancee?
What do I say on the boarder when the officer asks me why I want to enter the U.S.?
Do I say that I want to go on vacation or should I mention that I am visiting my fiancee?

2. If a U.S. citizen is the sponsor, does it has to be someone from my fiancees family or could it be someone else?
3. My fiancees mum is already retired, could she be the sponsor anyways? How much savings does she has to have?
4. How much is the minimum income requirement? How much does the sponsor has to have on his bank statement? Does it count that I have some savings or my parents? Where do I find this information? On the instruction sheet for the I-134 form I couldn't find the answers to these questions.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 - questions regarding the sponsor/fiancee
Hi guys!
I have some questions regarding the I-134 form filling out by the sponsor (my fiancee). My fiancee is a student and didn’t work last year. Her dad will be the co-sponsor and he fulfills easily the 125% of poverty line.

What should she write down for Question 7 on I-134 form: “I am employed as or engaged in the business of….”
Should she write down “not employed” or leave it blank?
She didn’t work, therefore she didn’t had income. Therefore we will write down “0” for the question: “I derive an annual income of:”

We also want to attach the following letter:
“ I, (name of fiancee) was not required to file tax return because my income did not exceed the filling threshold. I am a full time student and I didn’t work in 2008 therefore I didn’t have any income. My dad, (name of fiancees dad), will be the co-sponsor for my fiance (my name).”

Is this short notice enough or should it be longer with more information? What information are required?

Thanks for the help

Hi guys!
I have some questions about the I-134 form. My fiancee's dad will be my co-sponsor, since we both still study and don't have our own income yet.
Question 1:
Does my fiancee (who is the primary sponsor) has to fill out an I-134 form or just my fiancees dad (who is the co-sponsor)? My fiancee does not have any income.
Yes, the primary sponsor must fill out an I-134, as well as the co-sponsor. If she has no income, state such on the I-134. Regardless of whether she has income, provide last year's tax return if she filed, or a statement that she was not required to file because her income did not exceed the filing threshold.

Question 2:
My fiancee's dad is self-employed and makes about $100.000 per year. Is it enough when he provides a copy of his last income tax return or are any other documents required? He has also savings in his account and owns property. Can I just fill in on form I-134 for Question 7 the annual income or do I have to provide all information? I think the annual income in my case would be enough, just want to double check.
The tax information should be sufficient. If a sponsor qualifies on the basis of income alone, no asset information is needed.

Question 3:
My fiancees dad got his U.S. citizen through naturalization. Is it enough if I write down his naturalization number on the I-134 form or do I have to provide any copies of specific documents like birth certificate and certificate of naturalization number?
Write his certificate of naturalization number in the appropriate place on the form, and provide a copy of the certificate (or all pages of his US passport).

Question 4:
Can I leave Question 11 on the I-134 form empty or write "K/A". Question 11: "I intend or do not intend (I can mark on of it) to make specific contributions to support of the person(s) named in item 3."
Follow the example in the VJ guides: "N/A - K1 process for permanent residence"

Question 5:
Are there any other important documents missing?
Doesn't look like it!

thanks for the help

Hi Stephen and Elisha!
my fiance posted some questions yesterday. Thanks for your fast answers. I didn't had any income last year. I will mention this on my I-134 form.
You wrote:
"Regardless of whether she has income, provide last year's tax return if she filed, or a statement that she was not required to file because her income did not exceed the filing threshold"

Do I write this down on a piece of paper and sign it? Or who should write this statement and sign it?

That's what I've been hearing and that makes the most sense to me. She's only lived outside of Germany for that 1 year as an au pair. So it sounds like all she'll need is the German report. I emailed the Embassy in Germany before I posted here. I'll hear what their answer is eventually.

I posted this in the K1 forum, maybe that was the wrong place... So here it is again.

We're just starting the K1 process and I will be mailing in the I-129F packet in soon. Ny question is concerning when the packet gets to the Embassy. My fiancee is German and will go through the Frankfurt embassy. I know she will have to get copies of her police records.

She was in the US for 1 year as an AuPair. Would she need to get copies of that police record too? There should be no problems getting the German police records, but I don't know how to obtain the US ones if she does need them.

Anyone out there been in a situation like this? This is in regards to the interview she will have to complete.

Going for a K-1 Visa.... I've looked all over for what they actually test for during the Medical Exam. I know my fiancee needs to bring a copy of her Vaccinations. I have found what is required online. She's going to check if she is current with everything

What else do they test for? She will be going to the Embassy in Frankfurt, Germany. My guess is probably a TB test, STD test, anything else??? We just wanted to make sure there won't be any problems she can't fix ahead of time. She's in good health with no problems that we know about. Just wanted to be on the safe side.

Well, I heard back from the Embassy today. Turns out they like to give vague information. They say the shots are "strongly advised" which doesn't mean mandatory to me. So I replied back and asked them to clarify that. They didnt fully answer my original question. My question was if she could get the shots in the States...

Typical government answer to a simple question!

"Dear Sir:

As to Citizenship and Immigration Services every K1 visa applicant is strongly advised to receive all required vaccinations.

Is your fiancée a German citizen? In that case the vaccination fee is not correct.

With regards,
US Consulate General
