Middle East and North AfricaAaaaand it's Friday
Yay Melinda! Have a safe and wonderful trip.

I am hanging out today. Friday & Saturday are my weekend here. I just completed my first week at my new job & I feel so much better. I haven't spent so much time worrying about our AP, I am getting exercise everyday, and my husband got a job, too. He works 2 buildings away from me. Our stress levels have plummeted.

As our luck will probably have it, Mina's visa will arrive and we will have to quit our lovely new jobs..... or maybe that is just the "it happens when you stop thinking about it" theory.

We will see. wink.gif

Happy Friday to everyone. Today (actually at 3am later on tonight) is my 1 year anniversary of the day I arrived in Cairo! I honestly never thought I would be here this long, but I thank God for small surprises.

MHandMB - I love the Biltmore House. I can't wait to get home (SC) and drive up there to show my husband the whole town! Bring back pictures of the fall leaves!

Sarah, did you dress up for the Halloween party or not? I never saw anything posted about it.

Middle East and North AfricaVerizon Fios tv - arabic station
Arabic Radio & Television......

It (the company I work for) is a broadcasting company that shows Arabic movies & programs (with subtitles) by satellite to English-speaking countries.

Sounds like it to me. But, I will ask tomorrow if they are the same company or if they are broadcasted through Verizon in the states.

Good luck saving some money on the TV/Cable/etc......

Happy Sunday! kicking.gif

Well, Saturday was indeed an adventure. I gassed up the car about 1pm and hit the road.

Destination: St Louis Missouri
Mission: Suprise everyone at the VJ meetup
Travel Time: 3 hours 47 min (before Rest Areas)
Entertainment: Several newly burnt CD's

I settled in on I55 South and hit the cruise control. Pack of smokes and a bottle of water and I was ready for my journey. I was going to meet more VJ'ers in person! I have a hard time passing up rest areas, so I had to check them all out. I love the French Vanilla coffee from the vending machines.

I get to St Louis (saw the arch!) and I was kinda nervous walking in the restaurant. Everyone was so nice and it was really special to meet people that I have talked with over the years. Thank you Carla and Gene for organizing this meetup. good.gif

So, it gets to be time to drive home and as I leave St Louis, I call Amal. We talked, and talked, and soon I had gone 50 miles. Well why hang up now, I have free weekends. We talked for 155 miles til my battery died. Man, did I get sleepy driving that last hour. It sucked. I was all nodding off. I rolled down the windows and changed the CD to Metallica. Nothing like some heavy metal to wake ya up.

That was my big adventure. If you ever get a chance to go to a meetup,,GO!

Jackie rose.gif

WOW! JJ , I am so happy for you! I am glad you enjoyed it!! We are waiting on some pics of the arch or some nice fall scenery!

Go METALLICA!!

Happy Sunday everyone! My day is done! I have been awake since 5am, spent an hour in Cairo traffic this morning, gone to work, spent another 30 min in traffic, came home, ate, and now................. SLEEEEEEPPPPP!!!

Have a good one!

Question?
Did they use the same tracking # from DHL to send the visa to you?

Yes, because tears work at the airport but not USCIS or DOS. The Cairo airport is so nice if you're bawling your eyes out! At least when it comes to a carryon bag being 7 kilos overweight....laughing.gif

They won't let you in to see a consular officer. the same thing is happening here , the tracking shows ( shipment picked up ) .
when i talked to the DHL customer service they told me that it's the automaticaly update for their system .. they do it monthly for any unused waybills .

_if the embassy wanted to send the case to the third party investigator office so i guess they would never even think of using a waybill which they know that we can track .

_the embassy has sent me the RFE twice last month and for both times they used a new waybill and still keep my first waybill unused .

_i believe the waybill that we pay for at the interview is only for the return of the passport ( on my waybill it says Return Passport )

Hey, wael.... when u talked to customer service, did they tell you when the status would change back? or if they could use the same # more than once?? what # were you calling for the customer service? if it's a number in Egypt, let me know.

June 14 was the day of his interview, but we received a 221g that day for the cosponsor's information. I wonder where it was shipped to? And what happened to it??? It looks like it has stayed in Cairo, but that it was delivered and signed for by "US Processing". That's interesting. Anybody else have their results??

Hey Doodle or Wateriswide.... anybody have an update on their DHL..??

I entered the shipping # again, and all of the previous tracking info is gone. Now it just says :

What's up with that? Does that mean that they picked it up again and haven't delivered it yet? Maybe they are waiting on Eid to finish? Anybody have any ideas...?? I know for a fact that the same tracking number gets used repeatedly, but I worry that I am getting this response because his tracking number is too old. The last activity using this number was in June.

Doodle, can you check your tracking number again? I wonder if they are moving the cases in batches like last time... Could any of you check your DHL number and see if there have been any changes?

Thanks everybody.

I think you are right. More than one person's package was sent to an office in Cairo on the 24th. They probably do it in batches.

Also, I know you will keep checking because your package doesn't have any movement on it yet. But, Doodle, do you think that if our package gets sent back to the embassy that they will use the same Waybill # again?

The reason I ask is because the 48 LE that is paid the day of the interview is enough to send 2 packages (normal delivery within Cairo is about 23 LE). They could use his 48 LE to send it twice (back and forth) , but would they be able to use the same waybill #????

Anybody?

Did you try the same number in the WAYBILL tracking section?

I used the number under the bar code and it had 10 digits to it. My husband dictated it to me. Should there be any letters or more digits?

This is the link I used:

The number is 10 digits long and possibly starts with 9800???
We have several tracking numbers from things we have sent or received from the embassy and they all start with 9800.

I've seen it go both ways (they like to keep us guessing !)

For what it's worth, my husband's interview was also very short, and they didn't even look at pics or anything. The only hitch was waiting for the Israeli police certificate which took 5 weeks. After that finally arrived, we had visa in hand within a couple of days -- no AR. But we were dealing with Jerusalem, which is a very small consulate serving a much smaller population than Cairo has to deal with. Unfortunately, sifting through so many Egyptian names often takes some time. Hope your AR completes soon !

My husband's interview was brief, too. Two questions...what does your wife do for a living and where does she work? The CO briefly looked at our photo album after my husband coerced him into doing so. Aside from security checks our AP was relatively short. I can say this now because I'm through it but at the time it seemed like an eternity. biggrin.gif

Who was the CO? Was it the youngish white man with glasses by any chance? He's a good one and doesn't ask many questions usually.

That sounds like the direction our interview was going in until we hit the road block of the sponsorship. Maybe they were just trying to establish the income and that was it. Hmmm.

No. It wasn't the young guy with glasses, but he was the one who approved our I-130 and he was nice. We had the heavy set white guy with kind of dusty blonde hair. Your AP was 2.5 months or something like that, right?

We could've been finished by now ( I think ) if we hadn't have had to wait for the cosponsor. We lost 2 months worth of time waiting for that to get taken care of.

But, we are moving forward. Do you guys know of any other Christian husbands and how long the AP is in comparison to others? Is it about the same? I know that there was a girl from Egypt that was approved very quickly, so I wonder about the religion and if it makes a difference.

Well, Amera, that's encouraging and disappointing at the same time. Hehehee. I am glad that you speak up for those who are dealing with the Cairo embassy, and I feel like you do that it possibly doesn't make a difference.

I did somewhat the same thing once. I wrote a letter to the Consular General and asked someone to hand-deliver it for me. I don't know how much good it was for, but I tried. I told him that my interviewing CO was unprofessional (without knowing if it was he who had interviewed us or not) and that their whole system was a bumbling mess. I'm not sure if it helped or hurt our case or if they were indifferent completely.

Oh, well. I hate Cairo and I am not even in AP yet. laughing.gif

Well...

I voted :
1-2 possibilities (even though I thought there would be more; only 1 was able)
No problem asking (I sent emails to all of my friends, family, & churches)
Get another job to qualify (because I am already living in SO's country)

If I had not found a sponsor, I would have had to move back to the states and get a job to qualify. I am so glad that didn't happen.

We thought about getting a co-sponsor (as a backup plan) when we originally filed. Even though I was making enough money at the time, I think the 3rd year was under the limit. But, we couldn't find a co-sponsor, and we decided to go for it and filed anyway. Well, at the interview, they asked us to find one because I had not worked since coming to Egypt. So, we started over again. Asking the same people and new people, but with more urgency because it was now required. We finally found one & that was actually the last step that we completed in August. I believe the sponsor was accepted, and we are in AP now.

I agree that you have to want to quit. I started smoking in the girls' bathroom in Middle school. I think I was about 13 yrs old. I've been off and on since then. So far I think I've been off for 5 years now but I've gone longer than that and started up again. I think I had quit 6 1/2 years and when my husband left me I picked up THAT day and that stint lasted 3 years. What helped me the last time was 1) focusing on my children and 2) wellbutrin. I still crave it sometimes though. My mom's been quit for over 30 years and still craves it. Some say it's harder to stop then heroin.

Me too, doodle. But, I think I was skipping school w/my best friend & she would steal cigarettes from her parents. (Alpine Lights 100's- a very disgusting brand.... actually, they are all disgusting) I have quit on and off over the years, too. I started becoming a regular smoker around 19, and I quit several times. Once for 2 years, then I started again. Once for a year, and started again. Then, I just cut it down to about 3 or 4 cigarettes a day. And, I did that for about a year or two. It is very hard not to smoke again. Especially when I am around someone who is smoking. But, thank God, my husband and I have not smoked any cigarettes since Sept 15th of this year. I thought it would be harder for him to quit, but the sheesha has proven to be a bigger problem!!! Especially since he goes to the cafe every day to see his friends. My only concern is that he will not find sheesha in the states and he might go back to cigarettes if he gets a job & discovers the "smoking area". laughing.gif I am also worried that I will go back to smoking once I get around my mom & sister.

I promised myself that I would have my teeth whitened professionally as a treat to myself if I don't go back !!!!! I am currently trying to prove myself .... to myself. wacko.gif

Everyone knows how I feel about the Rock. I like Ryan Reynolds. (has anybody seen the Amityville remake with him in it as the dad?- jeez, he took his shirt off 3 or 4 times and I loved it!) I think I will look for that pic, now. I am glad I reminded myself!!!

Hope you like the next pic, Jackie. ;)

Ok -- I have to add my two cents..... Marco is not about his looks..... when the man sings hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... that is all I have to say about that..

I will agree! My tear ducts and Marco's vocal chords are linked together without a doubt :crying:.......I can't listen to most of his songs without getting chills or crying. It sucks that my friends who don't understand Spanish can't get the same emotion that I can from his songs. I try to explain it to people, but they don't get it.
