I hope you like it when you go for a fitting. You're right. It's simple, but very beautiful and it would work nicely at a garden wedding.

Middle East and North AfricaPity Party!!!
Wow. This thread really took off since yesterday.

Here comes my pitiful thread, and my opinions # 2388-2517! jest.gif

Sparrow: Are we jealous of you? YES, I am. But, I don't think that takes away from our excitement about your visa success. I am excited for you and I wish I was you at the same time! wink.gif
And, I am very sorry about your grandmother. rose.gif

Doodle: Threads get started every day about someone feeling bad or upset or depressed from miles away. Your thread is not in direct relation to sparrow's story. Each success, interview, denial, or other step posted here can make us think again about our own situation. Heck, even a song, scent, or memory can have that effect. Too many coincidences to make note of there. I am sorry that your birthday week/day was spent without your husband. But, I am so glad that you are celebrating another year of your life and you continue to nurture your love for God.

Sarah: I have read some of the earliest MENA threads here, and your posts seemed to have more compassion in them when you first joined (my POV). I don't know what that means, except that maybe it wasn't always your style to write things in the most direct or blunt manner. Maybe your writing style changed, maybe you stopped trying to please everybody, or maybe you were shy at first and later started expressing yourself more sincerely. I am not sure. But, I did see that when you first joined VJ, you had some familiar complaints about behavior in this forum/on this board. Why do people have to be so rude? Why do people treat the new kids like #######? ((not direct quotes from you Sarah, just overall atmosphere in some of last year's threads)) I guess I just want to say, I know that you know where most of us are coming from in this forum. That's why your posts are important. Because of your experiences.

I am trying my best not to make anyone sound right or wrong. Cause I, personally, can see all sides to just about any argument. And, I definitely can see each person's POV in this thread.

I think it all comes down to perception and delivery (like doodle said!). ALL of us don't have it in us to sugarcoat the truth NOR to forcefeed it to people. Different strokes!

Each perception of comments, and each person's delivery can be seen differently by almost all of us (especially because there are back stories and private matters that some of us are not aware of) so, I have learned not to always trust my first reading of a post. If I go back and read with a different tone or mindset, I may get a new meaning. That's what's so difficult about interpreting written messages. No voice, pitch, tone, hand gestures, facial expressions, or personal interaction to help you form the whole picture.

Was this post pitiful enough?? laughing.gif Do I sound desperate not to offend anyone? HAHAHAA

I wish I could spit out a well-written post without cutting, pasting, deleting, rewriting, and sometimes even losing my whole post! It takes so long to put something together. I think I am gonna stick to posting pics of hot hunks and pastries. laughing.gif

Middle East and North Africano Sunday thread yet?
Happy Sunday everybody! I have been debating this week with my husband about finding a job in Egypt. I found a couple of openings that we agreed on.

The stupid embassy is taking forever, so I want to get out of the house and do something. It's so frustrating because I don't know how much longer we will be here.

Plus, my mom is sick and I might have to fly home to sit with her for several months(which will completely devastate my husband and probably make us all a little suicidal). We are waiting on her test results to see if she is getting any better. sad.gif

So, if I don't go home to be with my mother, I will be getting a job.

QUOTE (sarah and hicham @ Sep 28 2007, 09:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi!

If I were you I would make school my priority for now. You have done everything in your power as far as immigration goes and I think you just have to wait it out. I really think the best thing to do is to try to finish school or get through as much as you can before he gets here. Things might get hectic and it might be difficult to be a student during the first few months that your husband is here. If you can visit him during the summer than that's great but like I said I think school is the priority. I also think that you should definitely go for the internship in NY. If you get it then that's a great experience and if not then you can go visit Egypt.

I know it's hard to think of now but he will be here eventually and I think it would be a shame to let an opportunity like your education or an internship in NY pass by to go to Egypt. HE will be here and you can spend every second together when he comes!

QUOTE (Jenn! @ Sep 28 2007, 12:16 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I would take advantage of any opportunity to live in another country in a heartbeat. So I chose #1 for sure, immigration and husbands aside even!

But maybe that's not as big of a deal for you -- you have an apartment in Moscow!?

I definitely would take any opportunity to live abroad also but I don't know if I would put off going to school for it. I would probably wait until after. Sometimes when people stop school for a reason they never make it back. sad.gif

I think Sarah is right about the school. It would be really nice if you could get as much school out of the way before he comes to live with you. That way, you will be that much closer to stabilizing yourself and getting a good/better job. The first few months will be rough, so you would benefit from preparing as much as you can right now.

Also, I think sparrow and Sarah are right that once you get into the workforce (usually fulltime), or step out of school for a while, you start moving away from returning. So, it may be harder to get back into the groove of things.

But, definitely don't burn yourself out on school and try to take the first available vacation that you have to go and see him for a while. (Even if it is in the summer! laughing.gif )

Now, I am curious. What should I vote for??? Cause I think you should go to see him, concentrate on school, and I also think that you could do both if you looked into the AUC and be back in time to possibly do the internship in NYC. ;)

Good luck, girl. rose.gif

Middle East and North AfricaDoes Islam allow Muslim men to marry Christian women?
QUOTE (Caladan @ Sep 22 2007, 05:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Christians, even Catholics, do not worship Mary. Nope, nope, nope. But Jesus is God for Christians, and there's really no way around that. A Christian who just accepts Jesus as a prophet wouldn't be a very good Christian under most sects.

But none of that really matters in this case except to the extent that it makes an interfaith marriage difficult, and that it's not just as easy as saying 'Muslims can marry Christians as long as they don't believe in the divinity of Christ', as that excludes a lot of people. The problem's his mother and HER interpretation of what her good boy is allowed to do, and I fear that even if the facts of Islam differ from what she thinks, this isn't going to be a problem solved with philosophy.

You always hit the points perfectly, Caladan. How do you do that? laughing.gif

The question about allowing marriages has already been answered. It is most likely a family pressure situation and something very powerful is going on that the OP may not be aware of.

2nd topic that came up here (long post - sorry):
Christians worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, neither confounding the Persons nor dividing the substance. For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Ghost; but the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, is all one, the glory equal, the majesty co-eternal. The Father is made of none, neither created nor begotten; the Son is of the Father alone, not made, nor created, but begotten; the Holy Ghost is of the Father and of the Son, neither made, nor created, nor begotten, but proceeding.

(Taken from a creed from the early church's teachings)

In simpler terms, it is that there are three Persons who can accurately be called 'the One God' or 'three persons in one ultimate unit'.

RATIONALIZING THE TRINITY
We are to worship one God and one God only, but that God is not limited to our logics and should not be cut down to size to fit into our rational thinking.

Take a look at Isaiah 40:18:
To whom, then, will you compare God? What image will you compare him to?
or Isaiah 46.5:
"To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?

Also, read these descriptions and biblical assertions. (I KNOW SOME WILL SAY THE BIBLE IS CORRUPT, AND THAT MAY BE TRUE. PLEASE REFER TO MY LAST PARAGRAPHS. PLUS, THERE ARE ARABIC RESOURCES THAT HAVE SIMILAR STATEMENTS AND COME FROM BOOKS OTHER THAN THE BIBLE)

John 1 - "The Word was WITH God and the Word was GOD" - surprisingly simple statement of pure-and-simple plurality-in-unity. And, this Word (i.e. Jesus Christ) prayed to the Father in heaven. (numerous places)

This Jesus would send the Holy Spirit from the Father in heaven, after his departure from earth. (John 14-17)

This Spirit could be grieved (Ephs 4) and lied to (Acts 5), and made sovereign decisions (I Cor 12:11 etc.)

These three are listed co-equally and co-ordinately in the baptism (Matt 28) and the Benediction (2 Cor 13:14).

Old Testament passages demonstrate over and again that the Angel of YHWH 'was' YHWH and 'was with YHWH'; and that the Spirit of YHWH 'was' YHWH and 'was with YHWH'. Old Testament passages describe a messianic figure that is super-human, super-angelic (agreed to even by non-Christian rabbinic writings), and is even called YHWH in a few verses.

OPPOSITION TO THE TRINITY
There are objections to this Judeo-Christian belief, but those who oppose try to philosophize and rationalize God down into our image. wacko.gif

Frankly, one would expect a "God" to be more complex than everything He created! One would expect SOME sort of duality or overlapping, but for one to say that God COULD NOT have three interior Persons would be VERY intellectually presumptuous (especially us being mortal creatures). To say that a God who could speak a universe into existence HAS TO BE no more complex in His nature than humans are would be GROUNDLESS assumption/speculation of the most ludicrous sort.

JESUS=GOD?
I know of at least one verse from the Quran that says that Jesus arose after his death (Surah 19:30-35). Mortal men can't do that. Most of Jesus' miracles were performed without invocation; without calling on any type of higher power. When he said it, it was done. Just the way the Quran says that God wills in Surah 3:47 and 3:59. Can a mortal will miracles into existence?

He was a Jew probably from Galilee who became, by birth, adoption, miraculously or otherwise, the sacrificial lamb, who died in order to atone for the sins of people. At best he is God who leaves eternity to become a finite person with all the frailties of humans, including death, the incarnation being a part of his atoning work. At the very least he was a Jewish radical among a lot of Jewish radicals who gathered enough people around him so that the message he came to share did not die with his death, but grew in a strangely fertile Roman and Mediterranean environment. At any rate, I accept a supernatural reason for the spread of the gospel about a supernatural being whose mission is to save the creation from its separateness from God.

Hard evidence? Nope. But, I find the fact that the church spread the gospel, and that early Christians and Christianity survived, evidence of its fulfilling God's intentions.

Middle East and North AfricaDuh, Monday
Traffic on Columbus Day: If anyone has been in Egypt during Ramadan, you would have noticed the traffic during iftar is practically nil. This is the ideal time for us to get anything done during this month. Any errand my husband has to run, has to be done at this time. Normally, traffic in Tahrir Square or Ramses Square is horrific. But, he can dash in and out of those areas with no problems right now.

Allousa's Bday/Missing Dad: I am so sorry that you are mourning your dad so intensely right now. rose.gif I wish I could tell you that it will get easier after a certain point. Everyone's experience is different and everybody spends different amounts of time in the stages of grief. I lost my dad 4 years ago, and I still cry like a baby when I say my prayers or when I think about him. He was my best friend. The person that I think about the most. He was funny, generous, & he was crazy about me. What more could I ask for?? wub.gif

I will say that if you can tell stories about him (maybe to your husband or son) and talk to people who have good memories to share with you, you can feel better (how much? I don't know) . I was never very close to my grandmother, but after my dad died, I started to visit her more often and listen to her stories. Not all of the stories were about him, mind you, but she & my dad have the same hands. I loved watching her move her hands cause it would give me little flashbacks of him. She also had some of his same spoken expressions and vocabulary. I could hear him like he was speaking through her. It also helped me to get closer to my grandma. We are penpals, now. good.gif Also, after he died, my mom would tell me stories that she didn't tell me as a kid. Stuff about falling in love, etc.....

I hope any of those storytelling or rememberance scenarios will help to ease your pain. And, in the instances where you just break down, I found it is best just to cry & cry & pray & cry. My only semi-comforting thought is that if I love & miss my dad that much, then God promises me that he cares about him infinitely more than I do. So, I feel like I can talk to God about it and my burden can be lifted. Make sense? I hope so. rose.gif

Good luck Olivia on the midterms.

Everybody else, I hope that you get some great news soon! And, Happy Columbus Day!! laughing.gif

Middle East and North AfricaI-130 Petition First Interview @ Cairo
QUOTE (wael253 @ Oct 12 2007, 04:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
"petiton interview" is NOT "visa interview" .......... "approved petiton" is NOT "approved visa"

1-we did DCF.
2-we both have been interviewed at the "petiton interview" .
3-to me all the question sounded to be for a MATCHING purpose .. match my answers with my wife answers to see if there is any difference .. which we understand very well that this matching is to make sure how well we know each other .
4- our petiton was approved at the interview and then we received the ( packet 3 ) from the consul who interviewed us .

- since in this case
1-they interviewed only the USC ,
2-and they have not been approved at the same day ,
3-and (packet3) has not been handed .
SO it's either the new guidelines for approving a petition OR they were not approved for the i-130 petition yet .

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I lost what I was typing!!!!!!!!
so, if this rambles on... i am sorry... and i am typing too fast to worry about punctuation and capital letters right now. ranting33va.gif

anyway, what i was saying was that our 3 dcf cases have some slight differences......i wil try to highlight here
reference: our interview was Dec 3rd 2006

we were both interviewed seperately - like wael & jeanne
we were NOT put on ap
we were NOT given packet 3 by the consular
we received packet 3 in the mail, and we already had a copy from the security desk at the embassy - UNLIKE wael & jeanne
we were asked 'matching' questions - like wael & jeanne
we had to send in proof of relationship before i arrived in egypt - emails, letters, etc. - UNIQUE ***
we received a case number the day of the interview - like wael & jeanne
we were told not to send in packet 3 until our acceptance letter arrived in the mail - like E&M

i think that one of the possible reasons he didn't interview her husband was because she has been living in egypt for more than 6 months. this could be proof of their relationship, thus no need for the seperate questioning. i am not sure.......

also, i don't think they have new guidelines for approving the petitions.... i just think that each case is a little different .... and even though we sent in our proof of relationship the next day overnight mail... they still didn't reply until a month later and only then could we schedule his medical appt & get his police record.... they won't let you get it together until you get that approval... wael was lucky enough to get his the same day.... good.gif

good luck E & M .... i say you have between a couple of weeks and a month ... & you will get your approval in the mail !!!

(in my 'been there done that' opinion)

Jackie rose.gif

True Jackie!

I have also seen WIVES in other countries wait in their home country for years while their husband goes to America, sends half of his money home to her, and he shacks up with or marries an American girl. He travels home often enough to keep her hanging on to the marriage and brings gifts and money when he returns. Maybe he sticks around long enough to get her pregnant again and then he's off to the states. All the while, his American other half thinks he's visiting his sick mom or his nieces & nephews. laughing.gif

There is fraud, deception, and overall nauseating behavior happening EVERY DAY in multiple countries.

I think even though everyone says there is no excuse for cheating, it gets tolerated at an astounding rate..... there is no follow through.
