United KingdomEntry troubles?
Well heres the crazy part --

The last time I visited before I came over with visa in hand, I didn't pack much because of this, or wrote anything down or ANYTHING, cause I KNEW what they would be like.

I got accused of already having stuff in the US and therefore living there already therefore staying past the 90 days!

United KingdomEntry troubles?
Glad you got in ok!

Before I moved over here and my fiance would visit me in the UK, he never had ANY trouble thank god.

However when I visited the US, geez I always had the hardest time!

I like Lisa had everything looked over with a fine toothcomb, whos this in this picture? whos this phone number? what does this note mean? It was terrible. Was told again and again why was I lying, shouting yelling, throwing my underwear around! I was threatend to be put in a jail cell, blah blah.

I visited 9 times before coming in with my K-1 and bout 2 of those 9 times were easy and no hassle, the others were terrible!

I thought you had to take them with you and let THEM attach it but seems like it doesn't matter.

I took mine to the interview.

United Kingdom1 week left, then moving to the US
Don't be nervous, it'll be fine.

I always had the worse time with immigration officers when I visited, I was once threatend to be put in jail/banned from the US all that #######..

Well with the visa, none of that just not real friend either! They just made me wait while they processed the info from the envelope and asked 3 basic questions and off I went!

what POE are you going through ? This will tell you about the POE's

United KingdomHow are you getting around the mothers day issue?

I just made my mum a card, and I know that she will be more than pleased with it. It will mean more to here than a bought one anyway as I took the trouble to make it, and here in the US there are so many nice things for card making.

I've handmade cards before and they were always well received. Means just that little more if you know someone has sat down and spent some time making their own.

I would do this but my mother is actually pretty...well shes not exactly QUITE normal and she actually doesn't appreciate homemade cards, she thinks I don't really care as much, I've tried the homemade before and it wasn't quite good enough, but thats ok, I'll buy TWO cards this year, sent the gift already and get a card later on :D

United KingdomHow are you getting around the mothers day issue?

There is no issue with Mothers Day, surely? If you usually send cards and gifts, what is to stop you now? There are plenty of cards out there that are plain so you can write your own message. Endless of flower companies too....Tescos, M&S, Next, etc. all do those fancy ones and even bunches.co.uk which are budget priced have been reliable for me in the past! Most of them come with a card for an extra few quid.

I buy 2 cards when Mothers Day comes around here. My Mum gets another one then, and I save the second one for the following year. My Mum is not in the best of health, and 70 next year, so there is always this thought in the back of my head whether she will even be around to recieve it...and that feels horrible.

It's not that hard to remember or find out the correct dates. Most diaries list International holidays and special days. No excuses for your Mum.

Jezelbel -- I agree with Lisa. Your future MIL is just finding it hard to accept her lil 'un is leaving. She is not dealing with it in the best of ways, and sounds like she's crying out for some support and attention. She needs him as much as he needs her.

Mainly I brought this up as a conversational piece, my mothers getting a gift this week and a big card from here on this mothers day, so she gets two.

United KingdomHow are you getting around the mothers day issue?

I think it'd be a great idea for you all to buy two MD cards this year, so that next year, you can suprise them (L) That's what I did when I was away from my mom

*hugz* to Mags

I also agree with Mags (go fig) that being that your Mom is there, I'd observe the UK dates.

Thats what I was thinking of doing....the cards I mean.

My mother couldn't fathom that although I was sending her a present for HER mothers day, she wouldn't get a card till later, bless her.

United KingdomHow are you getting around the mothers day issue?
I like the 5th nov idea..
My husband thinks its nuts that for about 3 weeks around that date you hear nothing but BANG!

Well my point to my mother was that she wouldn't be getting her lovely big fancy card (which my mother is VERY fussy about, homemade is not good enough, haha) on her mothers day as I had no way to get it!
flutter95FemaleUnited Kingdom2007-03-12 17:05:00
United KingdomHow are you getting around the mothers day issue?
I don't know how many people this is actually an issue for, but it is for me.

My mother cannot understand why and will not accept that mothers day is on a different day here - but fathers day is the same. I said I don't know, I don't make the rules!

So is this an issue for anyone else?

I told she'll have to wait till my mothers day for a card and stuff, I won't remember here!
Are you sending your charming mothers a gift now or waiting for the US version to roll around?

United KingdomI-693A medical form
Your welcome!

and thats exactly what you do...we'll be very close filers! :D
flutter95FemaleUnited Kingdom2007-03-16 19:04:00
United KingdomI-693A medical form
You need to go to a civil surgeon in this US, to find one near you Click here

They may tell you you need the entire medical, you don't,just the vaccine suppliment, call around untill you find a decent price (can range from $10 - $50 for this form) and that they udnerstand what you need.

You take the form you got of your vaccine at the medical and your vaccine records, they'll put it on the form and seal it up in an envelope and voila!

United KingdomLast Minute Medical Questions
With the clothing thing - you'll end up taking off most of your clothes and wearing an itchy robe thingy most of the time, so don't even worry about that. They are kind and friendly.

Don't thinnk they changed premises as far as I know!

I had to have the second MMR cause something wasn't quite done right about the first one apparently  I don't know. Also, I had the first hep b shot cause the embassy wanted to see that I was started the hep b process (haven't had the last shot yet) and I had them done both there for 70 quid extra - I could of found out and eventually done it at my local GP's or the hospital BUT I didn't want to wait.

I'm missing a normal civilized spring.

spring here is insane

I've been living in piles of snow soo deep and waaay below temps for ages then all of a sudden...about freezing...then this week on tuesday was 65 degrees! then loads of rain wed....then blah thur then friday got a foot of snow and back to waaaaay below freezing.

United KingdomWhat do you miss that you never thought you would?

I have to agree on roundabouts. Much prefer them to 3 or 4 way stop signs.

You've got to be kidding me. The roundabout is the most idiotic traffic control device that exists today.

Four-way stop signs are GREAT (unless you don't know how to use them.)

Cross traffic does not stop....but happy traffic does!! :P

That was a great joke mags.

And also, the quoted thing that mawilson said was hilarious!

I HATE stop signs here.

sometimes its SO retarded.

Random stop sign in the middle of no where but you have to stop to the count of 2?!

lol, roundabouts!

When my in-laws came to England, we traveled all over. Well my father in-law drove and everytime we came across one (like once a mile  ) he screamed the entire time he was on it! So funny.

I miss pasties too.

REALLY bad for you but mmm, so good.

I found it funny how we all HATE the rain and waether when we're in it, but when we are faced with harsh, severe weather we welcome back the gloom and rain with open arms!

I miss the humour too.

I am feeling a little homesick at the moment, its just part of the adjustment I guess.

I LOVE it here and I am happy, but I found my self missing things from home I NEVER would of thought I would.
Like pub quiz's for example.

Or fish and chips...I HATE fish, I don't want to eat it, I just want to see it being sold!

I also, rather embarrassingly miss Neighbours also!

What do you miss that you never thought you would from back home?

United KingdomLondon Embassy Packet 3 Question
I agree with Timsdaisy...

Its mainly just more forms to fill out.

You won't need your police certificate untill the interview, but you will need the ones from the different counties. I had to get mine from the Hampshire police also and mine too AGES, the full 40 days!
