United KingdomPolice Certificates

Good advice, Janice! Ours came in record time (10 days) but that certainly is NOT the norm. Better to be safe than sorry!

I STILL say the visa gods got it wrong there, tha NOA2 took FOREVER and the police cert no time at all!

Mine took forEVER.

I'm not a fan of Philly either but it will be fine -- don't worry. Yes, they are the moodiest barstewards this side of the coast, but just think how lucky you are that you're not them.

Safe travels.

I have to agree! I've had some non-pleasant times there, but they are just...strange.

I've had good POE through there too, with the visa you'll be fine!
Have a good trip!

One of my cats didn't eat for nearly a week after arriving here. Now? Well, he's a fat piggy who is happy and settled!

One of them is on thyroid meds though; she's refusing to take them and now I have to take her to the vet.

One of my cats is on meds aswell. Luckily I'm a dab hand with the old tablet and fluid down the neck trick...

I used to think I was too, but this one is really stroppy. :crying:

I had a cat where we had to have 4 of us pinning her down and one to put it in her mouth

Glad your back around here H_A

I agree Lansbury, its good to read the updates! Also, I was told to just pack the x-ray or carry it. It would be such a hassle to carry it and the results of the x-ray were in the brown envelope anyway! So I just packed it :P

United KingdomWhere in the UK are you or your SO from?

The boy was born in Gloucester, moved to near Sheffield as a toddler, and thence to Dover when he was 12. However, he's been in London for about 10 years (strangely, I've been a Londoner longer than he has). psho -- we're near your guy! We live near Archway tube station, not too far away.

I must be getting homesick or something - when I read this yesterday I thought 'awww, Archway! The Holloway Road!!' - weird, that's the first 'I miss London!' thought I've had, and I can't say I imagined that semi-homesickness would come in the form of getting misty-eyed about Archway...

Awww don't worry, that happens sometimes, its weird. I've missed fish and chips - and I don't even like fish

I'm from the Isle of wight :D But I have also lived in Chichester and (shamed to say) Bognor Regis! but I then moved back to the Isle of wight

United KingdomWorst Mistake Ever...

I chalk those mistakes up to visa-induced dysphoria: when you've gone so bloody immigration nutso that nothing makes sense anymore :)

I'll go with that... I remember being (seriously!) a bit worried that I would open it by accident, even though I knew I couldn't, and had no desire to do so. I packed it away in the front pocket of my carry-on (6 weeks before I actually left the UK), just so that I wouldn't end up opening the thing inadvertently. Y'know, getting up and opening it in my sleep, or just looking down and realising that I'm holding the open envelope and going 'bad hands!! now look what you've done!!'

Yes, I know that makes me sound like an Insane Person.

I was the same way!! I was like *nervously looking at envelope on plane* "I wonder if they'll think the slight buffing of the corners and that tiny tear and a wiggly flap means that I TAMPERED WITH IT! :o "

United KingdomAmending a name on passport
Hey VJ!
It's been awhile since I have posted on here; live has become very chaotic since having my AOS approved last year.

Anyway, my question is one that has been answered before but I seem to have no luck with the search engine.
I need to amend my name on my passport. I understand that it goes to the embassy in DC, and I know the fees. The website confuses me a little so I just want to be sure of what I need to send.
What I have is :

completed C1 form.
Passport pics.
Old passport
Marriage certificate.

I understand this has to be countersigned by a professional that I know here in the US for over two years, I know someone.

I just wanted to make sure this was all I needed before I sent it off. I am going home soon and I don't want this to be delayed!

Thanks in advance!

United KingdomAirline Advance Passenger Information
Your a UK citizen - non- us resident. As of yet, with a K-1 visa you are not an official U.S resident - that will happen later with AOS. To say you are a us resident would be to say you have a green card/permanant resident alien card which you do not yet have.

oh my RFE was for the affadavit - we had been told misinformation about it and he wanted a new form done up and sent to the office asap. He was really nice though and told me everything else was just fine and thats just want he wanted. My stressful thing was this interview was 3 weeks before our wedding date (dont ask - is stupid to book wedding date before visa but we didnt know at this point) and I freaked. But, my mother in law and then fiance got the paper work done, sent to me and then I had to call the courier to get it there. My mother in law contacted her congressmans office to speed things up and they said the embassy had got and and would work on it. The day after they got the new paperwork, they issued the visa and I got it the next day - flew to the US two days later! lol. All in all is was actually only a week delay, which is pretty amazing.

Hey, Flutter! Great to see you! Hope things are all hunky dorey for ya! biggrin.gif

Hey guys! I have been back reading and lurking for awhile - been so busy working and doing school I haven't had time for internet fun but now its removing those conditions time!

I almost cried - but not due to being happy but because he RFE'd me at the interview which really put a strain on my plans - anyway, the interview is really just a stepping stone in the whole immigration path!

United Kingdomwhy dont people get how stressful this is
QUOTE (Gemmie @ Jun 16 2009, 09:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I used to get frustrated hearing the same people ask me the same questions. I would explain it to them in simple terms ("we've been approved for the first step but waiting on the next, will take a few months") but a few weeks later, they'd ask me if I have a visa yet. In the end, I just stuck to shorter answers.

I've also had the people that are shocked to hear how you met online and get questions like "so what do your parents think of that?" with a disgusted expression, or "how old were you when you met for real then?"

In fact, the IO processing the K1 at POE the other day first asked me how old I was, and then said he thought I was too young to be getting married. I tried really hard to keep my mouth shut (just told him we'd known each other for 6.5 years so it's not rushed) but in reality, I wanted to tell him that his personal opinion isn't needed, and that perhaps if the US government allowed unmarried visas, we wouldn't be here yet. tongue.gif

My advice is to try and shrug it off. I know it's hard, but at the end of the day, it only hurts you... remember that there are people that REALLY understand and those that just want a quick answer. GIve them that, and then move on.. you know what you're doing, that's all that matters.

I have my POE IO ask me the same thing!! I gave him my paperwork and sat down and then when he was done he called me up and discussed some paperwork/K1 stuff I already knew, and then he asked me how old I was. I told him and he shock his head and said I was too young to be getting married. Uh, thanks for that but your opinion is not required and what, do you think after all the money and months of stress and waiting that I would get to the POE (after a looong flight) and be like, oh, my goodness, yes I am too young! lol

The immigration process and people I know are useless. I do not really tell them much about it, its just too much trouble. My mother in law is awesome - she gets it and lived it with me! but others do not understand. Now that I am in my third stage (removing conditions) I speak with some USC's about it who really do not understand the process, the cost and the wait cause I am married to a USC so it should be automatic! I wish.
flutter95FemaleUnited Kingdom2009-06-29 23:28:00
United KingdomFrom now on will I need to carry alot of paperwork when entering the UK?
My husband and I have vistited the UK once since we got married. When we went there we went with his family: his mom and dad, brother and his bro's girlfriend. I went through my line - no questions asked and he went through wth his family where they were asked what they were doing, and they replied with me visiting and then they asked my husband where I was and he pointed to me in the cleared area and then they told them to have a nice trip. As it is right now the UK immigration people do not seem as harsh with proving ties for a USC married to a UKC that live in the US - perhaps they figure that if the UKC went through with all the immigration work for the US then perhaps they are not going to circumvent UK law? Who knows!

I agree! When I saw the steps it reminded me of shaking as I walked up them! lol. But that video does show what happens! Took them forever to get my fingerprints - I worked in food service so my fingers are all scarred and they could not get a clear print. At first the girl was saying I may have to come back until they heal until I pointed out they are healed they are just scarred! blink.gif

hey to all of you making the jump...just wanted to say good luck and enjoy it! It all goes so fast and then its like "woah, I live here". At first it took me quite the adjustment - I had been visiting for 4 years before moving so knew my new area and the people well but its not the same as living there. But then I got my GC and my EAD and life went to normal and since then its great! Now I have had one visit home and it was strange to think of going back home was to be leaving uk and going back to US!

United KingdomCheap Shipping From UK to USA
I cannot remember the company I used but it was one that did it through DHL - so maybe it was the same thing but I had problems with them. They gave me a quote for my moving stuff by dimensions which was fine, sent it on its way then they starting calling and emailing me saying I owed them another 90 pounds because it was overweight at the airport when they had said nothing of this before! We tried to fight it but then ended up paying it, so basically just be sure of the weight requirements before shipping.

United Kingdomapproved pending additional documentation share your experience
In december 2006 I had my interview - I was RFE'd (needed more financial evidence, new sponser form etc) and I was told as soon as I send it in they will issue it and send it back out to me.

So, I called my then fiance who scrambled paperwork that day, overnighted it to me for a disgusting amount of money, I called the courier so the day AFTER that they came and picked it up. 3 days later they issued it and I recieved it a day after that so 6 - 7 day delay for me.
