US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUK Interview

They'll deliver it where ever you want them to. They give you a slip of paper where you fill in your details whilst in the Embassy and, as a rule, the visa takes roughly a week (some come earlier, some later).

Give them your home address and go wait for it there. I DON'T suggest you give them your hotel's address...

I agree with this, it may come soon, it may not and I would not give them the hotel address. Give them your home address, go home and it'll arrive :D

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of support/ co-sponsor
ALOT of people have co-sponsers, that is not an issue for the visa.

Tracy is correct though, the AOS stage is expensive as is setting up a home together.

The same sponser can be used again at the AOS stage, I am using the same one and its no issue.

At my interview I had an RFE for another I-134 and was told photocopies and faxes were not acceptable. Its a different embassy but I'm going to assume thats the same.

Depends on how much paperwork you have to send. I applied a little after y 5 year mark so I just had to sent form, green card copy, passport style pictures and a check so was not a big deal.

The 3 year period begins once LPR status has been achieved before the conditions are lifted. When applying on this contingency you may apply 90 days (not 3 months) before the 3 year anniversary of Being granted LPR.

US Citizenship General DiscussionTravel after Interview?

I'm VERY surprised to see the time line of your case. I mean, you are scheduled for the interview just a few days over 2 months after filing N-400. I've been around all kinds of immigration forums for at least 10-12 years and I've NEVER seen anyone's case to have processed to quickly. Lucky you.

I don't know if the same day Oath is conducted in Florida after the interview but if they do then that would be good for you; otherwise it would take a while before you will be scheduled for the Oath. I would say 3-6 weeks. Please don't assume the time line of Oath in your case based on other Floridians because each case is dealt differently. Also, don't assume everything will go smoothly in your case just because you have no issue and straight forward case. I hope your case to be finalized right away after the interview, but I would like you to also open for any surprise as well. For example, just last week my wife had her citizenship interview. She also didn't have any issue whatsoever on the application other than what me and my wife knew of. She got approved with a flying color, but we got so disappointed when adjudication officer refused to hand over her oath notice despite of my wife didn't mind waiting to get the Oath notice. The USCIS district office where she went for her interview does hand over Oath notice right away to applicants which made us to keep our hopes up for this as well. So we got so disappointed. That's why it's my opinion not to assume/presume anything when it comes to dealing with USCIS.

I personally don't think you would have any problem in traveling, in and out of the US, either before and after the interview. Why? Because you have to remember that you would still be a LPR after the interview (even if your application is approved) and you could never be a US citizen until you take the Oath. So, it's not about the interview or approving of the application; rather taking the Oath which would make you a naturalized citizen. Thereby, until you take the Oath, you will still have your GC with you because they take away GC only when they give Oath and not after approving the application. So all the rules and conditions would still apply to you as a LPR until you take the Oath. So just use your GC to travel.

And somehow your Oath date falls in-between or close to your travel date then you may request the USCIS to reschedule your Oath date which they do all the time. I read a posting of a lady on some other immigration forum who delayed taking her oath because she had already planned and booked her cruise trip. According to her, she could have lost tons of money in canceling that trip for not only for her but also ruining the plan of her family. USCIS doesn't ask any reason as to why you want to reschedule your oath date.

You should also know that you can obtain US Passport immediately on the same day by going personally to one of Passport offices, but it would cost you $60 extra in addition to have your trip-ticket. In my opinion, paying extra $60 to be with your family on time wouldn't break or make you up. But if you don't want to spend this much money, then you may delay your Oath and can still use your GC.

Good luck....

I am also an odd case as the OP in the sense of timelines. I have my interview tuesday and it'll be two months since I filed.

Good luck and I hope it goes speedy for you. It felt very odd going through biometrics and all again! The guy who took my biometrics said "wow, you've been here a long time". I didn't really think so but hey, whatever. I kind of liked waiting until the 5 year mark for the less paperwork. For once it wasn't a major stressful time.

I am nervous for my interview tomorrow though... I haven't physically met with an immigration official in a long time. I haven't been interviewed since the embassy in London!

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 5-year vs. 3-year option
I remember you from back in the day :) I decided to go for the 5 year route - less paperwork and less explaining. Seems to be easier. Ive had a very short wait so far, but my husband is military now so I am not sure if that is to do with it. Either way if 5 year is an option, I'd take it.

I just didn't do it before because we truly didn't have the money and we didn't *have* to do it. I was fed up with USCIS!

I had my citizenship interview in Atlanta, GA today... PASSED :) I missed the same day oath by about 5/10 mins but hey, I still passed! My appointment was at 12:45 and they saw me about 25 mins late. My interview lasted about 30 mins, but the interviewer was just slow and methodical. He was very nice and mainly nagged me about my out of state ID.

All in all very simple and easy :)

They have a 45 day time limit... Then u can get in touch with them....but it will come in before that... Hang in there.

Technically they have a 120 day time limit from the date of the interivew. My I/O said it should be within 30 days, but who knows. I was also told by USCIS after 90 days I can have them check to see what is going on but that is about all. I will wait, just frustrated because its been such a long journey, it would nice to be actually done! It would also be great if my online case status updated so I feel better, even though I know that system does not always work correctly.

The reason I ask is that Mrs. nesscap and I sent our N-400 applications in the same packet and did our finger printing on the same day. She got her interview letter about a month ago and is scheduled for an interview in early Dec.
If I can do an early interview on the same day that she has hers, hopefully will get the same day for the oath ceremony and will be able to complete our citizenship journey together.

Well, it seems for some reason hers has been able to process quicker than yours. Like I said, every case is different. From what I know and have experienced getting an expedited interview is not possible.... because USCIS processes cases as they receive them and some cases are easier than others. There are namechecks and other checks. Heck, theres a filer who applied to the same office as me in June and hasn't had their interview yet, but I applied in september and had my interview last week. Unfortunately, USCIS does not concern themselves with what we want when they go through the applications. You never know, yours may come through soon! Have you been placed in line for interview yet?

Congratulations Flutter95, can you post your interview experiense so we know how the interview went for you?? It will be helpfull :help: for all of us.

Sure... I'll let you guys know my details :)

So my husband and I got to the USCIS building in Atlanta, GA about 35 mins before my interview time. Just as an FYI to anyone who has a spouse who is military or a federal employee, they get treated differently at security. Anyway, my husband (active duty Army) got ushered through and then we checked in. I checked in just before the 30 min early mark and I noticed a list saying N400 interviews and there were 4 of us listed for my appointment time (12:45) and I was the first there. The guy printed a ticket andtold me to go to the 2nd floor and wished me luck. When we got upstairs, ticket Q86 was called and I was Q90. We took a seat and waited and waited.... many people who had been interviewed earlier were being called and given a piece of paper for doing their oath at 2pm that day and telling them exactly what area to go to at that time. As it was approaching 1pm I knew I would not be done in time to be a same day :( I was called around 1:10pm and the IO took me to a different floor.

The IO sat me down and just asked how I was doing today and explained that we had just missed the cut off time for same day oaths and should I pass the interview I will be mailed a letter telling me when and where my ceremony will be. He asked me for my ID, permanent resident card, and passport. My ID is from out of state due to being a military spouse and keeping residency there for tax purposes. I know the laws are kind of black and grey under that but our command says its ok to stay with our out of state ID. Anyhow, he gave me alot of hassle about my drivers license and urged me to get it fixed and I could get in trouble if pulled over... yada yada. He told me he would perform the test first and then go over the N400 application.

He asked me 6 civics questions which I got right. I cannot remeber the 6th one.
I was asked:

What peoples were brought to this country to be sold as slaves?

What is the highest court in the US?

Who is the vice president?

Why did the colonists fight the British?

and now I can't remember the 5th question :/

Anyhow, I did the writing portion of the test and then he went over my application. My file was huge! He started flipping through the file from years ago and I was surprised to see bank statements and tax returns from years and years ago from my applications. He asked me how long I'd been LPR (over 5 years), and then basically just asked me if I was working now, and had I been out of the US since filing the N400. He went through the form with me step by step and when asked about a title of nobility in another country, he made a joke. I said no and he said "what, England didn't make you a princess?". He was very easy to talk to!

Once we had gone through the application, he had me sign paperwork. He was very slow and methodical, but friendly and somewhat of a perfectionist. He started cleaning up my file and joking about how my file was so big, and what I'd done to make it so big. I asked him what happens to the files after someone naturalizes and he said they just sit at the national records center, lol. He cleaned up my file alot, reorganized things and told me he was doing this so that when quality control checks the file there is nothing missing or wrong, and it doesn't cause any problems or delays. He said sometimes mistakes happens and a person would have to come back in to sign something, or resubmit something just so the file is complete. After triple checking the file he signed off on it and handed me the slip to say I was approved and congratulated me. He talked about Ft. Benning, GA and said they come down here alot to do stuff with soldiers immigration and asked why we didnt let them interview me there and I said I don't make the rules, they do, and he laughed. He said I should receive a letter within 30 days for my oath, but could take up to 120 days. I asked where it would be and he said there at the office. He told me to call them if I had any emergency travel coming up to ask them to hurry with the oath so I can get a US passport and travel on that, but it would be ok without it.

I left happy and kind of stunned :)

I just hope it doesnt take too long for the oath... Atlanta, GA does oaths everyday at 2pm so I am hoping it wouldn't take too long seeings as if I had just been in my apt 10 mins earlier I could have been done that day.

Hope that helps you guys!

The problem with being scheduled for interview and being inline for interview depends on the district office and sometimes even individual cases. There are some people within my DO who have been waiting for months to get scheduled for interview and mine came through quick. Mine however is most likely due to the fact my husband is in the Army. I did NOT file under military conditions but I did get transferred to Nebraska so I guess I Was treated that way.

The online case status says on the 16th I was scheduled for interview and should be receiving a letter but I have not yet and its been almost a week :/ Makes me nervous as this wouldn't be the first time I didn't receive a piece of important paperwork from USCIS in the mail! Hope it comes soon.

My case did get transferred to nebraska right off the bat so perhaps I am still ring treated under the military ruling anyway? Would be interesting to see. In curious to see what timeframe this interview will be!

Fingers crossed for yours soon! Can't be too much longer!

Grasshopr - Yeesh that is a really long time :/ I am so sorry youve been waiting this long!! I feel really bad now... lol I hope yours comes through soon!

As far as info about me... Ive been a LPR for over 5 years, filing under those conditions.... even though been married to same USC. No kids, no dependents of any kinds and no prior marriages for either of us. My husband is active duty Army stationed at Ft. Benning, GA so I don't know if that has something to do with anything but I did NOT file under the military ruling.
