Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionPostponing Biometrics for 10 months?

just for the history - nothing changed, neither our case was "punished" anyhow for our 4 month long every 2 week rescheduling of biometrics. Good luck everyone!

Glad that's still working out for you, Feliz.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionPostponing Biometrics for 10 months?

Hi everyone! I called US CIS yesterday and they said to keep rescheduling to "Next available saturday" untill we return and there is no deadline for doing so, but i should be aware of that it "delay may negatively affect the case"

nscvet, unfortunately embassy said that that nobody can file petition or pass biometrics abroad :(

Now my question is - Does absence of fingerprints mean a total "freezing" of case untill we come back? or will they still process it in the order it was received?

i hope that the latter is true, since some lucky people get approval AND invitation to Biometrics at the same time.

That is good news! There may be someone who knows more about it, but if I were in your position, I'd be happy that you are allowed to delay the appointment until you return. When are you due back?

Uh Oh, the invitation came Nov 4 dated Nov 1 to come Nov 15 at 12 pm for fingerpringing...

I am going to call 800 number first thing Monday morning and see what they say...

Does it mean i might have interview too? Cuz i noticed that those who get approval after couple months they are invited after approval.

Did it have anything on it saying that if you couldn't turn up come on this date etc?

Why would it mean you will have an interview? I can't say you won't but it's not that likely. Your experience so far sounds pretty much like everyone elses. Don't fret! ;)

Don't know if this helps or not, but it's interesting that you can delay your biometrics somewhat.

Thank you very much, Lou Lou, it helped me a lot! At least I will have enough time to plan everything out.

Do you think it's good idea to ask US CIS if I can do fingerprinting at the local US Embassy?

I'm sure it doesn't hurt to ask, but I'm pretty sure of the answer. ;)

I think you need to wait for your biometrics letter, and then plan what to do from there. Your letter may state something completely different from mine, so there is not much you can do until you know for sure.

Good luck.

Feliz,

I just got my biometrics appt. and it says this on the letter:

"If you are unable to appear at this time, you may go on any following Wednesday at the same time noted above, as long as you appear before 1.15.2007. If you do not have your biometrics taken by that date, your application will be considered abandoned."

So they have given me a few months to get it done. Don't know if this helps or not, but it's interesting that you can delay your biometrics somewhat.

Hi:

1. What I would do first is get an InfoPass apointment and go over there and get my passport stamped. This way, you can leave the country with non problems.
2. I would leave a friend in charge of the mail. If you are called to biometrics before you return, you buy one plane ticket, come here, do the biometrics and go back. Simple. A little costly, but its worth it.

I dont see any other way as to avoid giving explanations about your long time outside of US.

1. They have already left the country. See post #4.

2. They are doing that. See post #4 & 6. I imagine it's more that costly to just come home for biometrics, otherwise I'm sure the OP would be doing just that. Of course, if they don't get anywhere with calling and writing to explain their situation and delaying biometrics, then their only option is to fly home.

Silly question but can you not just fly home to the US if you are called for Biometrics???

most people get a NOA extending there greencard for a year not long after they file....

Kezzie

I'm guessing it's quite a long trip home, and expensive if two of them came back.

VSC is very slow with NOAs at the moment, but not sure about CSC.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionPostponing Biometrics for 10 months?
The letter is in the guides somewhere. It looks like any other NOA to me. Obviously with different text ;) Personally I would travel with the original, and probably a copy too! Can the letter be securely mailed to you? Sure, it will cost, but well worth it. With regard to biometrics, again, I think the only thing you can do is explain to them either by phone, letter, preferably both, to let them know and ask them what you should do. Only they will know whether a delayed biometrics is acceptable.

It's a shame you didn't explain to them before you left the country, but I understand how those things go. I think the last of your worries should be citizenship at this moment. Deal with that one when you're back in the country.

Perhaps someone else can shed some light for you here.

Good luck

However the VJ guides, and the USCIS website makes no mention of having to do a biometrics for I-751 Removal of Conditions.
http://www.visajourn...p;page=751guide
http://www.uscis.gov...forms/i-751.htm

You will have to attend an interview to remove the conditions

I-751 Biometrics are the norm lately. The VJ guides are out of date.

It is rare for people to get called for an interview to remove conditions. It does happen, but not often.

Feliz, I think you need to call and get an infopass to explain your situation. Whatever you do, tell the truth!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionBiometric Appointment

I received NOA1 on Dec 4th from Nebraska Service Center, but haven't got Biometrics mail yet. I need to be out of town from 23rd. My question is, if the appointment for Bio is the day while I am away, would I be in trouble? I am really getting worried... :crying: but I got flight ticket and can't change! Is there anybody who couldn't go on your appointment day? Thanks.

It seems a lot of people got a biometrics letter that allows you to delay the appointment if you can't make it. My letter said I could turn up on a certain given day at the same time and they would still process me. So don't be worried -- just deal with it when it happens. I doubt you will get in any trouble.

I totally agree with you. They have 2 basset hounds, but they stay in crates all day and then in the back yard whenever they're home. Her family lives 20 minutes away, and his family (in Florida) consists of a father in a nursing home (after a stroke) and a grandmother who is too feeble to travel here. So its not as if they have a lot of out of town guests, either.

I can't figure it out. I sent her a link to an 1800 square foot house that was new construction, fenced in back yard & in the same neighborhood as the 3000 sq foot house - she totally ignored it.

So, it just seems a bit 'keeping up with the Joneses' to me.

Yep. It definitely is. But, I guess if they're prepared to clean every spare minute they have, good luck to them. laughing.gif

Don't get me wrong. I agree if you have lots of kids and animals the extra space is great. But I mean the people who live in these mansions with just 2 of them rattling around. If we moved to 3000 square feet we'd be positively insane. wacko.gif My folks are too ill to fly here so I don't need to put up rellies. I probably wouldn't live in that size even if I did have kids...I'm too much of a hippy and care about how much energy it would waste...both mine and every other type!

I have wondered this same thing!

My friend and her hubby are starting to house hunt. Why they are looking at 3000 square foot houses for the two of them, I'll never know. They MIGHT adopt in a few years, but they'll still have at least 2 spare bedrooms in a house that size.

Just seems like more to keep clean, but maybe that's just me. laughing.gif

I've never really understood why people feel the need to live in huge house with acres of lawn so they spend every weekend sitting on a mower. But maybe that is just me. There are only two of us. We don't need a lot of room. I do a lot of work from home and it still doesn't get cramped. Heating a large home over a Vermont winter is a nightmare. The bills are bad enough as it is. I think our house is about 1200 square feet and it's plenty big. When it comes to cleaning, I wish it was flippin smaller!

Talking of little things that make you think: I have lived here 3+ years and we never lock the car doors, or the house. On Friday someone stole a stash of parking meter money from the car. It couldn't have been more than $4. What made me think was even after living in London most of my life (30+ years) I had never been a victim of crime, and now in sleepy Vermont I was...albeit a small one. I was more gutted about the cute purse they stole than the cash, of course.

I actually drunkenly entertained with a friend the idea of opening up a british cheese shop here in LA. We would have done delivery on motor bikes and called it Cheesey Rider.

I have 3 local co-ops that stock cheese from Neals Yard so there should be one where you are. They also stock from other UK dairies. I used to work minutes away from that place, and I don't miss the smell in the summer. I can also get Pimms from the local offie, so you must be able to get it!

I don't really miss much. I buy from Trader Joe's, or other online food companies that are based here -- way cheaper shipping. Plus, I nip across the border to Canada for Brit stuff too. Search around and you see Brit stuff tucked away. Christmas Tree Shops, TJ Maxx, all those kind of places. I know a while back people were already selling Brit food on Ebay. Personally, I would not be prepared to pay the horrendous shipping charges from the UK, plus the fact most of us have friends or relatives that can do the same job.

It may be worth the extra year wait to get your citizenship if at all possible.

You may be on shaky grounds with abandonment issues if you don't. As for citizenship, you need to be present in the country for even longer so unless you are going to fly back and forth a lot, there could be problems arising by upping sticks and moving back.

This is one of many examples over on the citizenship board. http://www.visajourn...showtopic=83831

We were another couple that had known each other for several years and lived together etc. I was way more anti marriage than him even though he had gone through a very messy divorce after 25 years of marriage. We did the Vegas route. No guests, no fancy stuff, just a quick trip to get it over with and continue with paperwork. Is it any different? It was until I just forgot about the whole thing and didn't make a big deal about it anymore. I don't refer to him as my husband, and he doesn't refer to me as his wife...and we're settled with that. We exchanged wedding bands, but I hardly ever wear mine as it gets in the way for work. I kept my name, and pretty much life is going on as it was before.

Hah! Me, I watch it. Did I just say that in public? blush.gif Not every episode, but at least once a month to keep up with it. After about a year here, a lot of people were saying I was developing a "twang" to my accent. So, what better way to cure it? Watching Easties of course.

Funnily enough the whole time I was in the UK recently I didn't watch any telly. But now, back a few days, still tired and grouchy, I went for the best cure: Easties and a few G&Ts. tongue.gif

So blimey o riley, what the heck is going on with Ian and Jane? Is it really her or is it another plant by who is actually doing it? They showed that shot of Jane looking a bit dodgy but it wasn't that subtle if it is her.

No spoilers before new episodes please!

United Kingdomwhat would u ask relatives to bring from the UK
I was at my local Shaws tonight and they have expanded their range of brit foods. Weetabix, Grossman's sauces and soups, loads of different marmalades and jams, chunky kit kats, wine gums, loads of biscuits, and all the usual range they have of chocolate, pickles and stuff. It was quite impressive! Considering I am one of only two brits in a town of 8,000 I guess someone must be buying that stuff.

What did I buy? Nowt. After nearly 4 years of living here I guess I've weaned myself off that stuff and realized it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Not that I buy any other muck in place of it either though. If I did want to eat #######, it would be the Brit stuff all the way. yes.gif

If it's really not a lot of stuff look into something like UPS or Fedex. It took 4 days to arrive and I didn't even have to be in the country. United KingdomWhat everyone has been waiting for: Tesco’s US Roll Out Follows Two Years of Research

Looks like it won't be!

In particular, our own fresh&easyTM line of products will have no added trans fat and no artificial colors or flavors.

Unfortunately HFCS doesn't come under those categories, so it could still be used in great quantities without a doubt.

Really? How wrong that is.

I think it's wrong HFCS isn't regarded with the same degree of concern as trans fat and artificial colors or flavors, but that doesn't make it any of those 3 things. It's not a fat, it's not a color, and its not a flavor. It's a food additive and usually used to replace sugar. It's definitely one of the biggest downfalls of foods here as we all contest on an almost weekly basis in this forum!

United KingdomWhat everyone has been waiting for: Tesco’s US Roll Out Follows Two Years of Research
I'm kind of disappointed by all this but not surprised. 60 households in America is hardly what I'd call extensive research. And if they intend to stock what those 'average' households have in their fridge, I can guarantee it's nothing I'd want to buy. Sainsbury's already had a shot at attempting to turn over Shaws here in NE but it ultimately failed and they bowed out in the end. While it did improve selection and choice, the quality was still very much questionable.

I figure if UK foods ever had a hope of flourishing over here, it would have already happened long ago. Most of what you see at your local store is there by consumer demand. People generally want cheap processed tat (well, they do at my local anyway), otherwise there is no way manufacturers would bother to make it in such quantities. But why should us expats be demanding food from home to be in the shops anyway?! As the article says ‘It is an American store designed for American consumers', so I can hardly imagine I'm gonna be able to pick up jaffa cakes there no matter how much I'd like them to be there.

If it does ever turn out to be a breakthrough, as Robin has already pointed out, it will be in more affluent areas and states where choice is already at the premium.

I'm not holding my breath and will continue to grow my own stuff and shop locally whenever I can. I pray every night for a Trader Joes to become closer to me though.

Well, as long as they add high fructose corn syrup to all of their products I'm sure they'll do well over here. ;)
