Good morning friends.

yay coffee and humpday, what a combination! kicking.gif

Good morning!
I woke up sick as a dog... my husband had this cold last week and I was feeling pretty smug that it hadn't hit me. Then it hit me hard this morning.

Yuk!

Interesting story from when I was in the waiting room of the dealership having my car serviced yesterday:

There was a man sitting across from me with his wife. He asked about 3 or 4 other people sitting near him if they were republican or democrat (primaries were here yesterday) Everyone he asked said they were voting for Obama. Anyway, I'm just flipping through a magazine trying to mind my own business when I hear
Him: Excuse me miss?
I look up
Him: Are you a republican or a democrat?
Me: Oh I can't vote
this is when it got funny
His Wife: Oh #### me too! Oh I can't vote neither! Felony charges. Incarcerated. Where were you in prison at?
Me: OH NO no no no! I can't vote because I'm Canadian
His Wife: Oh
She looked very disappointed.
The waiting room was full and I could hear snickering from every corner
Him: You don't got no accent or nothin. Don't y'all talk with some funny accent?
Me: Nope. Not really. We pretty much talk like Americans.
At that point I got up to see what was taking so long with my car and tried to get out of there.

My car wound up taking forever and I was almost late for my biometrics appointment.

HAHAHA!! Kim Mitchell! HA!

OH everyone here is Canadian so I can tell this story - HILARIOUS.

So, about 5 years ago or so, I'm in Muskoka at a friends' cottage. He had a HUGE place and there were about 50-60 people over... I guess it was a party. We were being pretty loud but it was May long weekend so everyone is loud in Muskoka at that time.

There's a knock at the door... he must have been at the door for several minutes knocking. One of my friends answers the door and it's friggen Kim Mitchell sans hat laughing.gif I guess he was renting the cottage next door.

Kim: Yea hey can you guys keep it down? Some of us are trying to relax here.
Friend: Oh wow. Sorry... we'll turn the music down.
Kim: No it's not just the music, you guys are making too much noise.
(he was really really p*ssy at this point)
Friend: sure ok

Kim Mitchell turns around and starts walking down the steps and my friend says "Is that the Patio Lanterns dude?"

I swear, it was like we'd all rehearsed it... all at the same time we all start singing "Patio Lanterns..."

I don't think Mr. Mitchell was impressed.

Only one question before Charles reaches the Don Cherry level of Canuckdom. Explain any two of the following (most Canucks don't know these so if you don't get it maybe some of my fellow Canuckleheads will help):

1. Polar Sea and/or Manhattan
2. Dammit, Les, you pissed on my rug!
3. Manicouagan Fu**-You Call (this one's too easy)

*wondering how many people are going to answer one of these or all three?*

1. Canada regards the Passage as lying within its territorial waters, while other nations (especially the United States) regard it as an international waterway. The result is a long-simmering dispute between Canada and the U.S. on the question of Canadian sovereignty. Canadians were incensed when Americans drove the reinforced oil tanker Manhattan through the Northwest Passage in 1969, followed by the icebreaker Polar Sea in 1985, both without asking for Canadian permission. In 1970, the Canadian government enacted the Arctic Waters Pollution Prevention Act, which asserts Canadian regulatory control over pollution within a 100-mile zone. In response, the Americans in 1970 stated, “We cannot accept the assertion of a Canadian claim that the Arctic waters are internal waters of Canada.... Such acceptance would jeopardize the freedom of navigation essential for United States naval activities worldwide.” A compromise of sorts was reached in 1988, by an agreement on “Arctic Cooperation,” which pledges that voyages of American icebreakers “will be undertaken with the consent of the Government of Canada.” However the agreement did not alter either country’s basic legal position. In January 2006 David Wilkins, the American ambassador to Canada, said his government opposes Stephen Harper's proposed plan to deploy military icebreakers in the Arctic to detect interlopers and assert Canadian sovereignty over those waters. http://en.citizendiu...rthwest_Passage

2. While in office, Pearson resisted U.S. pressure to enter the Vietnam War. Pearson spoke at Temple University in Philadelphia on April 2, 1965, while visiting the United States, and voiced his support for a negotiated settlement to the Vietnam War. When he visited U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson the next day, Johnson strongly berated Pearson. According to Canadian legend, Johnson grabbed Pearson by the lapels, shook him, and shouted "Dammit, Les, you pissed on my rug!" Pearson later recounted that the meeting was acrimonious, but insisted the two parted cordially. After this incident, LBJ and Pearson did have further contacts, including two further meetings together, both times in Canada. (Canadians most remember the Pearson years as a time Canada-U.S. relations greatly improved.) http://www.canadianc...B.-Pearson.html

3. ?

I am obviously bored at work and did a bit of googling... biggrin.gif

I felt bad for him 'cause he was away from family and friends at Christmas so I got him a stocking and filled it with a ton of goodies and stitched his name on it. It was a snowman stocking. That's quite a jump - Mandi to Shannon! When my Sister was having her second child we had decided it was a girl and her name was going to be Chelsea. At the time I was in to cross-stitching so I did these reallllllly cute xmas stockings for Chelsea and my other niece.

Well, needless to say, Chelsea did not appear - but my wonderful nephew did. So I took the stocking to work (as he was born on Dec 7th and I was in NZ) and ripped Chelsea's name from the stocking and put his in.

The manager did walk in too - he just looked at me - I told him what I was doing and he was good with that - he was a great guy - I'm sure he still is!

Just thought I would share that lovely story tongue_ss.gif

Oh and by mistake, at some point, my BIL threw the stockings away by mistake.

I'm so sorry that happened too... ugh.. that is terrible..

What is it with diamonds going missing anyway??

My mother lost an heirloom ring that was a combo of her diamond that my dad gave her (he's deceased), a diamond that was my grandmother's (given to her by her 1st husband that was shot down of germany).. she changed from a summer purse to a winter one and forgot the ring in one of the pockets and threw the summer purse away.. sad.gif

I took my old engagement ring from my 1st marriage and had it re-set in a necklace.. then I promptly lost it in the washing machine.. i felt sick for about 20 minutes.. then i realized who gave it to me.. whistling.gif

UGH..

That is horrible about your mother's ring. That would make me so sick... Sounds like it was such a special ring... gosh sad.gif

The diamonds in my band were actually out of my mom's old wedding ring from my dad (they're divorced now) so I'm a little sad about that part too. It was funny 'cause when my mom saw the band she noticed that my engagement diamond is twice the size as the diamond in my band (the one I lost) and she said "Man your father was cheap" haha. maybe the diamond had a bad energy or something. hmmm

What a great idea! Nathan's hot dogs are my new favourite! Love them.

You can't get Cheez Whiz here?

What about real maple syrup? My mom always sends my husband those giant jugs of real Canadian maple syrup. It's like gold to him.

Also, the Safeway here has real Canadian back bacon and Canadian peameal bacon. I actually noticed that almost all of the bacon products they sell are from Canada. Harris Teeter here has a good Canadian bacon selection also.

Smarties is another one to add - Smarties here aren't the chocolate candies like we get in Canada and the UK. Americans call those sour little candies that come in a roll (like Rockets) Smarties.

Aero is another chocolate bar that you can't get here - I learned that when my husband asked me what kind of chocolate bar I wanted from the store. I said "Aero" and he said "Huh?"

Last night we went to Panera Bread. I had soup, he had soup and salad. We had originally planned to have Indian but late yesterday I felt like I got hit by a ton of bricks. Lay down for a quick nap and woke up with a terrible headache and very nauseated and shivering. I think I'm doing better now. I hope.

I hope you're doing better too! That sounds yukky. Feel better and take care of you!

I bought a chicken! However tonight we are going to have beef curry - tomorrow roasted lemon chicken!

Mmmmmmm, I LOVE curry. I'm making roast lemon chicken right now. I've had to delay the process, somewhat, because my husband came home from work then went right back out (after taking some business calls) to work out. So now everything is on hold until he comes home. whistling.gif We are having garlic lemon roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots and turnip, and brussel sprouts. Yum.

I think it's funny that we are both making lemon chicken, in fact I don't think I have ever made lemon chicken, well not that I can remember, however when we were at the store I thought of it and skipped back to produce to grab a lemon !

BTW, the lemon was 79 cents - seems a bit pricey for 1 lemon.

Oh and we bought some florida citrus (2 oranges) - helping the florida economy from our own neighbourhood tongue_ss.gif

Sounds yummy! I just took chicken out of the freezer so it's chicken for us as well smile.gif Haven't decided what to do with it though. I'm thinking chicken cordon bleu with a salad.

Last night I made liver. Sound really gross I know. But I fry it with bacon, onions and mushrooms in white wine and then serve it on a bed of spinach leaves. It's my husband's favorite (one of them). I got the idea from a really amazing French Bistro I used to go to when I lived in Malta and everyone I've made it for loves it. I guess you might have to like liver to enjoy it but...

I think I'll make a roast chicken dinner today. I feel the need for some comfort food.

You know, I'm just thinking, I can't remember the last time I made roasted chicken, I think it's because we only ever eat the chicken breasts. Hmm, if they have some non-frozen chickens at the store I think we might just have this too!!

We're breast people too. whistling.gif I either make chicken noodle soup with the leftovers, or use them in Chiang Mai soup or Butter Chicken. Mmmmm.

Is Chiang Mai soup the same as tom yom?

I LOVE cooking. My husband takes pictures of the dinners I make on his iPhone. Is that weird? lol

Awww. That's so cute! LOL

I have to admit that I'm not that terribly into Mexican food. (Though those tostados do sound good.) My husband and my children love it, though, so I've begun to try things other than quesadillas or corn chips and salsa. I even managed to eat part of a taco salad last week, and I do like chili sometimes. I think it's the fact that I don't really like my food touching each other. blush.gif

Cream of leek and asparagus soup sounds good. good.gif I made an excellent beef and mushroom soup last night. My husband complained that I didn't make enough.

I used to be like that with the foods touching each other... had to have nice neat little piles of food. I'm just getting into Mexican food. My husband is from California and it's pretty big there...

I cheated with the soup and added canned cream of mushroom soup. I LOVE soup. Beef and mushroom!? That sounds really yummy.

Last night I made cream of leek and asparagus soup. I didn't love it but my husband did.

I'm making lamb too Krikit.. Tonight I'm making Lamb stew! I put sweet potatoes in it. After reading all this about cornbread I think I'm gonna make some of that too - just bought cornmeal the other day to make Tamales but found out I need Masa.

Tamales tomorrow night - I have to call my MIL in Cali to get her to coach me through it. I've never made them before.

I LOVE cooking. My husband takes pictures of the dinners I make on his iPhone. Is that weird? lol

Those Tostadas sound goood!

"I catapulted a small portion of our grass and some perennials into the middle of our lawn. I must go out and try to cover up the evidence later."

laughing.gif

Are you going to the beach this weekend krikit, which one!?

I know! I laughed at that too. laughing.gif We used to work together. We had so much fun. When I left, she took early retirement. Said she went from looking forward to going into work each day to hating going into work each day. (She used to report to me.) When she and her husband came to visit last September her husband gave me heck for the loss of income. lol

Anyhooooo..... I digress. Hubby had asked me to go to the beach for the weekend. Sarasota or Bradenton area (Siesta Key/Anna Maria Island). At first I said yes, but then I changed my mind. We've just gotten back and I'm still catching up on everything that was neglected and/or accumulated while we had our visitors. It's our second first wedding anniversary tomorrow. (Yes, Groundhog Day.) So I think he was trying to make up for forgetting our first first wedding anniversary. But I still have time to change my mind back. It's a woman's prerogative, you know. wink.gif

This Ontario cam site is great! I love being able to see home.

I don't miss shoveling - that WAS a funny account of "catapulting" the grass lol

The bright side is pretty bright - the option to beach is a good one to have smile.gif

Happy second first anniversary!
