US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK-1 Visa, I-134
Hello Everyone. I am new to the forum and have found it very, very useful. In a couple of days my fiance and I are going to start the K-1 process (yippy!) The problem is that I am just graduating college. I do not have a job, I did have a job 2 months ago and the length of that job was only 8 months. However, I am about to start looking for a job and everything. I want to start the K-1 visa already because my fiance in the Philippines is also just graduating and we would love to start our lives together. We met a long time ago in high school because she came as a foreign exchange student, we visited each other a lot (which cost a lot too). Now we are about to start our careers and we wont have time go visit each other, I proposed to her a year ago but now I think its time for us to get the K1. The problem is the I-134 income requirements, how could I even be a sponsor? What would I show, what could I show if I do not work yet. My Mother will be a Co-Sponsor and she does meet the requirements for everything without question. I am worried that when they she goes to the interview and they see my lack of income that it will be a big problem. My fiance and I plan to live and work together. We're both college graduates. If anyone could give me any type of advice it would be great.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestions after receiving NOA2
Hello, idk this might be a dumb question but since my fiancee has lived in the US for about 1 year on a J1 exchange student visa, and 6 months on a tourist visa, does she need a police clearance from the US? also, she has class during the day, when the packet is delivered can they leave it at her house, or will she need to be there in person to collect it? Thanks all.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionpacket 3 and 4 questions due to new interview scheduling procedures
hi guys, my fiancee recieved packet 3 already, and the instructions given there only tell her to go to a website and download the specific instructions such as the increase in fees and the docs needed during the interview day. however, it does not give any clear information regarding packet 4, since there are new scheduling procedures now. it just told her to call a certain number to set an interview date and thats all. we're kinda thinking here how about packet 4? we read some thread here in vj that says we gotta download packet 4? if so can anyone give us the link? we're confused. anyone please tell us if we're right, that we gather the required docs first, call for an interview and then packet 4 will be sent to her containing her interview apptmnt and medical exam. also, when she calls for an interview apptment date, would they automatically give her a medical exam date too?

thanks a lot in advanced! biggrin.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUS embassy in Manila
QUOTE (ikhing @ Apr 7 2008, 03:43 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hey guys, again blush.gif
Do you guys know if the US embassy in Manila sends out a letter or a notice to the fiance(e) to inform her/him that they received the application and it's ok to schedule a visa interview?
I know the embassy in manila has this new appointment system that you can call or go online to schedule an appointment for a visa interview but I'm not sure if they still notify the beneficiary in the philippines OR he/she needs to call the embassy to confirm if they have the application already. I was just confused and amazed that on their website they have all the info and the forms needed..even the packet for completing the required documents!

hmm..well my fiancee recieved her packet 3 on april 5th., we actually got confused too because of the new interview scheduling procedures, but got all clarified now. what happens now is she gathers the required docs, call for an interview and medical exam date. ill try to see if we have some more people here in vj who got a packet in their mails recently too.

good luck to all of us smile.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionArranging flight after visa
QUOTE (symbiosis @ Jun 17 2008, 07:38 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Is it safe to book a flight to the U.S. once the embassy schedules the final interview? I just don't want to wait until the last minute, when fares (and fuel surcharges!) will be much higher.

well you know everyone thinks the same as you do, and we all want to do that, but i won;t advise it. no one is sure when the visa is going to be delievered to her address due to the difference of the speed of the service of NSO branches. good luck on the interview! wink.gif

Anyone who has a co-sponor and done with their USEM interview and granted for a visa???
How long does it take for visa granted when you have co-sponsor??
Is it allowed in US Embassy Manila to have co-sponsor???

please helpsmilie.gif

Hello jessel chris, I am in the same boat! My fiancee and I are about to start the K1 process. However, I just graduated from college and dont have any TAX FORMS, I am applying for a job at the moment, but I will use my mother as a co-sponsor because she makes well above the requirements and wants to help. Yikes! I dont even know what to put for my part of the I-134 form! Well my fiancee just graduated from college too there in the Phils, so when she does get here I will have a job and all that goodness, so no concerns about me supporting my fiance (just in case someone is concerned).

I was always under the impression that the K1 process was about 6 months long but I've been looking at the timelines of you guys on this form and it looks like it is a lot closer to one year. Can this be right?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Filing
"USCIS no longer routinely uses this form for anything, so does not have much call to update the directions for the form."

I notice they also don't update the form -- the expiration date on the form fresh off their website is 4/30/07.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Filing
From reading the step-by-step guide on this site, have believed that the I-134 is to be taken by the fiancee to the interview. I filed my I-129F back in April and am just now getting the documents ready for my fiancee to take to the interview, which I guess will be in November, and I find this on the USCIS web site:

"Once the [I-134] form is affirmed*, it should be mailed to the same USCIS office where the application was filed."

Yikes! Was I suposed to have sent the I-134 in with my I-129F?

(*By affirmed they mean notarized.)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of Support Requirements
Your answer has got me reading the instructions a little different. I have good income, but am self employed. I understood the I-134 to put a heaver burden on the self employed, and although I have a rather high net worth, much of what I own (trust deeds) is not an asset class that show on the I-134 form. And I would like to have every issue that might come up in the interview solidly nailed down.
Randy CAMaleRussia2008-08-05 12:14:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit of Support Requirements
The instructions for the Affiavit of Support state that you must submit a letter from your bank stating:

1. Date account opened
2. Total amount deposited for the past year
3. Present balance

I went to my bank (Wells Fargo) and was give a letter that does not have #2 on it. They say it is a form letter that can not be changed and they have never had an issue with it.

Is this true -- you don't need to have your deposits in the letter? I hate to leave it out since this is one of my strong points.
Randy CAMaleRussia2008-08-04 19:16:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDuplicate Evidence What?
I was just going through the I-134 instructions word by word again and came across this:

"The sponsor must submit in duplicate evidence of income and resources, as appropriate."

Duplicate evidence -- what the heck are they getting at? Multiple copies? Photo copies of orginal documents? Several documents that support the same item?

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionready for the interview
I thought the answer to #11 was self evident since this is part of an application for K1 (Marriage) visa. I answered it saying " I intend to marry Yulia and to fully support her till death do us part."

You can get it notorized in Romania or go to the US embassy and get an officer to certify the signiture.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK1 Instructions from the Embassy
On Wednesday I am flying to St. Petersburg, Russia and will be joined there by my fiancee for 3 weeks. I expect the Moscow embassy to receive our K1 application during that time and I worry that they will be mailing out the instructions to Yulia while she is out of town. If you have ever seen Russian mail boxes, you will know how unsecure they are, and this is a sorce of concern.

What does the embassy mail out? Is it just a letter? Is it a big packet? Will there be a notice of it being mailed on the USCI web site?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionA Qick DS-230 Question
On the DS-230 there is a place where the sponsored immigrant can request that a Social Security Administration assign a SSN and issue a card. The DS-230 is to be filled out by the prospective immigrant and taken to the interview, in our case, in Moscow.

Is this the best time and place to make such a request? I worry about it getting lost in the shuffle. Or is it better to wait till the immigrant is in the USA and can go to the local SS office and make the request there?

US Citizenship General DiscussionDual Citizenship
Hello all! The time has come in my journey that I can file to naturalize. I'm a Canadian citizen currently residing in America, and have done so legally by marriage for the last three years. I have a 10 yr. green card which it appears I can just continue to renew, or attain citizenship. I would like to have the ability to move back and forth over the border as work and life unfolds, but it seems with a green card alone that can't happen? My problem is that I don't want to give up my Canadian citizenship to get American, I love both countries but Canada is my homeland. Is it possible to get dual citizenship? From my research I think it is, but I'd love to hear the wisdom from others. Thank you all, this site has single-handedly gotten me where I am residence-wise. Y'all rock!!!

US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship with the intention to leave
Appreciate the advice. I didn't think they would care, but I want to try not to cause a fuss if not needed. I've heard about the taxes but from what I can see, Canada and the U.S. have a tax treaty that would exempt me from paying taxes to both countries though I do have to file each year.

US Citizenship General DiscussionCitizenship with the intention to leave
Hello, this may be an odd or maybe disliked question, but my wife and I are planning on moving to Canada in the next year. I immigrated here about 5 years ago and have been living as a permanent resident since. My wife and I are planning on moving to Canada in about a years time, and filing my wife's Canadian application in a month. I'm looking into obtaining American citizenship before leaving, and would be filing my citizenship forms at the same time that my wife files her residency papers for Canada. My question is, is there a possibility of filing these forms at the same time going to cause conflict? Could I be denied citizenship on the basis that I may leave?
Any wisdom helps, and thank you!

ps- I love America!

Hey

My mum keeps pestering me about this (really annoying  ), after we are married (I am taking Roshon's surname) do I just keep my UK passport with my maiden name or do I have to have it changed, or does it not matter??? Would I have to send it back to UK?

United KingdomWhere in the UK are you from?

Carl was born in Blackpool and has lived in Herefordshire for the past 5 years. I was over there with him from Sept 18- Oct 2. We went up to BP for a weekend. I like Blackpool but being from Maine I'm not much of a city girl, it was nice to get back to the quietness of Herefordshire. Though I have to say anywhere with him is perfect.

Just noticed another 'sandgrown'un' (well actually I was born in Manchester but moved when I was two!)!!

I always get asked if i'm australian....I guess the northern accent really throws the Americans.....I think they think everyone speaks the queens English :P

I'm a northern lass and I ALWAYS ALWAYS get asked if I'm Austrailian!!! I guess if you don't speak like Hugh Grant (or the queen!) everyone pretty much assumes you are an Auzzie!!

Roshon is getting real good at knowing the different accents! He still gets Scotish and Irish a little confused with each other

Do you not think we have WAY more accents than here in America??? Ours varies from town to town never mind state to state!!
