Mira is APPROVED. YEAH. We were not prepared for the number of people waiting to get into the Embassy. I thought we would be there all day. I was impressed by the way they moved applicants from one section to another and I was surpised that we were finished at 11:10am. Hope Mike n Jennie and 2hearts have the same news. Post more on the interview later when we climb down off cloud9. hehehe. :dancing: :dancing:

Congrats on the approval    have a happy life together!

Hi guys! I have a question. Im entering the US through a K1 visa right? can i get the First Time Immigrant fare?
Who has SFO as their POE here? How much was your ticket, what airline and did you avail of the first time immigrant discount?
Thanks!

-TeSsA-

SFO will be Yazi's POE. She's flying on PAL. we were able to get first time immigrant discount. I booked thru LBC Travel. When they asked if she was Philippine Passport holder, said yes, coming here on K-1. they gave the first time discount. not sure if any other airlines offer the first time discount.

Well, for me it was because Florenda lives in Cagayan de Oro and waiting for delivery would have been risky given that we are leaving on 2/23. I small delay in the delivery would mean rescheduling flights.

Hi Gary and Florenda! How are you guys? I will be flying to SFO too on 2/23 via PAL as ive been granted visa pickup and hoping to receive a call on tuesday from the USE. Wheres your POE?

It was very nice meeting you both in person.

Regards,
Mari

have a safe flight. yazi and her daughter will also be flying to SFO on PAL Feb 23rd. going to be some :joy: :D  reunions at SFO.

Hi friends,

I have a question.

My finance says that she needs some fillings for her teeth per her dentist. Her friends are telling her that she'll fail her medical exam at st lukes if she doesn't get her teeth filled...

Is this true? Are they that strict that they will mark the exam failed if she has bad teeth?

Thanks

that's not true. it will have no effect on the outcome of the medical. if possible would be a good idea to have any dental work needed done before coming here. it's so much less expensive in the Philippines than here.

Can anyone give me some direction on applying for a social security number for my wife? She came on a K3 visa, as we were already married in the Phils. It seems that my bank, life insurance and every place I do business needs a social security number from her.

I think a K-3 visa needs an EAD to apply for a SSN. your can get a ITIN by filing a W-7 with IRS. many banks wiil accept a ITIN instead of a SSN

terps76....
Can you tell us the name of the agency. I assume the taxes was added on top of the $500? And how do you get a first time immigrant ticket? Thats a great price!

I will need a flight for April goin to LAX for my wife.

Thanks and best wishes to you!
Mike

another one to check out is LBC Travel. Since they are a Philippine Corp. I was able to pay the travel tax. LBC books flight on PAL so if you mention she's a K-1 visa holder, can get the first time Immigrant discount.

passports and visas when you check in. you will be given the I-94 during the flight. why don't you check Sheriff Uling's signature so you'll be familar with the I-94. the brown envelope will be given to Immigration when you arrive at your POE.
have a safe flight!

Hi! I need advise if just in-case my fiance's documents will not arrive on time before I go to USE for my interview. Will I still have my interview and just bring back the lacking documents?

Lacking documents - Evidence of Support

FedEx Tracking Number is: 858509113023

Left Jacksonville - Feb 10

Estimated delivery Feb 14 - 6 pm

I called FedEx customer service - the route will be from Subic to NAIA Parañaque then to Sta. Rosa Laguna then to my residence in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

I'm freaking out here :crying:

Lily

If it does not arrive, could your fiancee fax you copy of his tax return and W-2? probably still be put in AR, but at least you have something to submit till you receive the documents.

With the talk a little earlier about the SSN: Is the 10 day wait for applying for a US SSN, required, upon entering the US? Or can a person apply for it immediately upon arrival to the USA?

My understanding, that for the work permit, a k-1 person must wait until after the marriage occurred. Or is that simply part of the AOS process?

Thank you

I think the reason for ten days is to allow time for your fiancee's name to be entered into the database.
you would file for EAD (I-765) at the same time as you file for AOS ( I-485). believe a I-485 was to be pending to file a
I-765. the hope is the EAD will be approved faster than time takes to AOS, so your wife can work if she wants to.
once she receives green card, no need for EAD.

on getting SSN before getting married. I think I remember someone recommending on another forum that since your fiancee's name is in the database from the I-94 or visa in her maiden name.

I saw somewhere on this forum that St. Luke staff may take my fiancee's passport? Should they hold on to it? Well she get it back when she goes in for the interview at the embassy? I would appreciate a quick response. Her medical exam is tomorrow.

Oh another question is that her DS 157 will be machine stamp when she pays the VISA fee right? Its likely she will be given a stamped blank DS 157. I assume she can pay the VISA fee anytime before the interview (she does not have to before medical). Aloha again for all of your help!

yes, St Lukes will take the passport. she'll get it back when Delbros delivers the visa after the interview. yes she can pay the visa application fee anytime before the interview.

The PAL ticket office in Davao told Yazi to expect to pay 750p; 550p airport fee and the new security fee 200p.
I did find a way to pay the travel tax here. I know you're not suppose to be able to and everything I read said you couldn't. I booked thru LBC Travel which said they could collect the tax. I was skeptical, but the PAL ticket office in Davao said that it had been paid. all Yazi had to do is get the reduced tax certificate for her daughter which cost 200p.

Roy, LBC is a Philippine corporation (with a US branch office?) so it is able to collect the travel tax for the Phil. govt.

Thanks. yes there are several branch offices here in California. The only disadvantage with LBC Travel would be if you are not near a branch office. you can book by phone, but have to pay for the ticket at a branch office.
