US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionManila Embassy Interview

Hello Everyone,

I have been away a few days on business travel and just returned. Congratulations to all who are approved. Can anyone tell me when the Visa Schedule site is updated? After about 10 attempts I was able to speak to someone at the US embassy in Manila. They have had Rosemarie's file since 09/05, but no Packet 4 yet? We were so much hoping for a December interview.

Maybe I am not entering the numbers correctly? Does MNL proceed the numbers? Does anyone know when they update the Visa Interview site and how often?

Good luck to all!

start checking appointment link in couple of days. should be released 17th to 19th. Packet 4 is not sent till after the interview has been scheduled.

You can just show up any time without rescheduling? Do they ask for the interview appointment letter?

I think you need to be able to supply them the appointment letter, I know that's what Jenalyn showed the guard. I believe I have read where even the original NOA2 letter got them in the door. But I'm not sure I would want the medical done before receipt of the appointment letter. There really is no "scheduling" involved, it seems to be done on a first-come, first-served basis, with there being a cap of 100 or so people each day.

it's best to send only a copy of the NOA2 to your Fiance(e). keep the original in a safe place. pretty sure you need it when you AOS. I heard they can be a pain to replace if the original is lost.

Congrats YnYaBa and K3 IR

I got an interesting letter from the Immigrant Visa Unit today. It stated Dhonn's interview and medical appointment dates. It appeared to be a copy of the cover letter for packet 4. Have any other petitioners received confirmation of the appointment dates from the embassy?

i received the same thing.

First, I want to extend my deepest prayers to those still awaiting the joy for which they rightfully deserve...

I can't win for losing.

So let me clear this up now. I'm presuming the statement above my have been misinterpreted by at least one of our fellow members. IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FASHION WAS I ATTEMPTING TO RUB MY APPROVAL IN ANYONE'S FACE. Goodness! I am actually writing that for Windchaser and PW who have been kicked down by the process and really deserve and need our prayers (not to mention grace). But I tried to make the comment general not to alienate anyone that may be going through a similar struggle(s). My statement was not intended for those who are awaiting their interview dates/appointments. Why can't you just ask me what I mean instead of attacking me in PMs. I have given my heart to this particular thread because I feel a deep and genuine bond because we all share in this experience together. I'm really angry... hurt.. and disappointed. And you my friend are mistaken.

Thanks a bunch...

Uling

p.s. The thanks a bunch is sarcasm… so if you want to attack me… attack me for that!!!

Uling, it's sad to hear some reacted like they did. we're all going thru the same process. for some the process has been more trying, like Windchaser & PW, than the rest of us. we all have the same goal here, to be united with our loved one. be happy for those who have or are close now to achieving that goal. for the rest of us , our time will soon come.
Uling, a big  for the help and support you have given to others.

Congrats Uling!!!

I have some questions.
Since Luz hasn't heard anything yet from the Embassy I called the DOS and asked them for the status of my case. They said that Packet 3 was sent on Oct 23. I told them that Luz hasn't gotten it yet. They said for Luz to call the embassy and request they send it again. The number they gave me is different from the one in Ulings signature. They gave me:(63) 2-528-6300 Ulings number is (63) 538-6300. Which one is right?
Is this the number that they charge $18 to use? If so I guess I should be the one to call.
Thanks guys!!

there is not a charge for calling the 011-63-2-528-6300 number. just your reg. long distance rate. the call center is the one that charges $18
from US 1-888-877-9888.
inside Philippines, you may contact the Visa Call Center at 1-909-101-7878 (available only within the Philippines through a PLDT or Smart landline with NDD or IDD access). Its hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M., except on Philippine and American holidays.
not sure what charge is for calling.
the Embassy doesn't send the Fiance Visa Appointment Packet (packet 4) till after the interview has been scheduled. DOS may have been referring to the preappointment letter as packet 3. my fiance never received hers. doesn't matter, everything is in packet 4. you can see what's in the packet on Embassy website. Uling has a link in his signature.

Hey guys just want to ask what did you put in DS 156 Question No. 32 and 33 ( Do you intent to work? and Do you intend to study?) I put yes and answered None at the moment. I intend to look for work when I get my EAD. and for Question 33. Yes, None at the moment. I also indtend to study when i get there but not soon.

God bless,

ELizabeth

my fiance put same work, yes school, no. don't think it really matters what you put for a K visa. these questions pertain to other types of non-immigrant visas.

Question for PW, Uling or any other kind members. On the afidavit of support question#11, I answered" N/A (K1 visa for permanent residence" I did not check any of the boxes as per the sample form. Is that the correct answer? Thanks for your help.

I really don't know the technical answer. I checked intend and I wrote verbiage equivalent to YuandDan's recommendation of putting N/A ( K1 visa process for permanent residence ). I believe that question is actually intended for the other non-immigrant categories, but it causes confusion for family based visas. Please help us Phil-Am family...

this is one where there is no right or wrong answer for a K-1 visa. i checked I do intent box..... the manuals suggest checking do not intend N/A .... either way will be accepted. as Uling stated, this question is intended more for non-immigrant visa. example student.

i have a question on the DS-157 for my fiance daughter. her father died before she was born. he is not listed on her birth certificate. where it asks for father's name. leave blank or put none?

I'm thinking that his name should be listed and a death certificate or decree should accompany your submission. Only Mary has been documented of having an immaculate conception. LOL! I'm just guessing... Does anyone know for sure?

since we're not sure what on put, so we'll try the immaculate conception and see how that flys with the Embassy.

Can someone please teach Roy how to quote because when I try to read his posts they aggravate my cataract? LOL!!! :D

oh yeah, well :P actually do need a lesson in how to edit a quote. :D sorry, didn't mean to make your eyes go  :jest:

My Baby is done with the vaccination... Tomorrow she is headed for PRISM to participate in the Guidance and Counseling Session. It's been a busy week for her, and now we are one more step closer to the big dance. Cheers!!!

When my girl called CFO office to inquire about the seminar, a lady told her that she would have to go all the way to Quezon City to attend the seminar. But according to the web page, it says that PRISM also offers the seminar in Malate at the same times Mon-Fri. Is that correct, and the CFO secretary is dumber then a stump? Also, does anyone know if they require the passport as a peace of ID for the CFO seminar? Because after the medical, the passport will be in transit to the embassy.

Thanks.

unless something has changed since my fiance attended, passport is not required as ID for CFO.

thanks for your reply. my fiancee does not have a death certificate. they were not married. the father died about 3 months before the daughter was born. the daughter is now 10 years old. more things to worry about now.

Hey, stop being a worry wart. Cheer up! Your problem can still be resolved. Your fiance can get a death certificate from the NSO even if they are not married.

The NSO list of requirements does not even indicate that she has to be related to the deceased. If relationship is required then she can put her name as requester in behalf of her minor daughter, who is the child of the deceased person. Example: Requester's Name: Angelina Jolie (on behalf of Shyloh Pitt, minor daughter of deceased). Hopefully, NSO will not require her to produce evidence of paternity.

Below are the info needed to get death certificate taken from http://www.census.go...faq.html#obtain

1) Complete name of the deceased person
2) Date of death
3) Place of death
4) Complete name and address of the requesting party
5) Number of copies needed
6) For what purpose the certification shall be used

thanks for all of your help PatientlyWaiting. it's very much appreciated. trying to find out as much as I can so i can tell my fiance what needs to be done. don't want to cause her any unnecessary worry about the situation.

I must be blind, because I don't see where on DS-157 that it asks for the name of a child's parents or even list the child. On DS-156K it requires the child to be listed and indicate if they are coming with or if they will follow later.

for a k-2 visa. a separate DS-157 and DS-156 need to be filled out. I could be wrong. on the DS-157 it asks for the applicants father's name.

Write the name of the father then enclose in parenthesis "deceased". Make sure your fiancee has NSO-issued copy of death certificate at interview time.

Embassy will not be able to say that they “found out after” because she will list down the name in the visa application forms. She is being upfront about it by listing it down so there is no subterfuge or deception.

I was able to read your post in the another thread. You said that her birth certificate has already been amended to reflect the name change. Please confirm if the NSO-issued BC has her old name in it with an amendment at the bottom of the page that reflects her new name. If that is the case, then there is really nothing to worry about. The name change is legal and in order.

If the consul asks about the name further, that’s the time she would show the letter and support documents.

PatientlyWaiting, that was someone else. hope this doesn't become too big of a problem. :(

heheheh uling, funny guy. my fiance's name is not on his child's b/c either. thus the dilema. i think you can ammend the birth certificate if both parents were still alive. in my case, the ex wont cooperate in admmending the b/c. so unfortunately we are unable to take advantage of the derivative status and thus will not file for the child to join / follow option. but we do have a signed affidavit that he is the father if just to prove paternity. ugh now im having butterflies in my stomach again.

hi roy i dont know how she will be able to fix her child's b/c to include the name of the father since he has pssed away. in the form perhaps put N/A since his name was not on the original b/c. not 100% sure but that is what i would do.

thanks for the replys. i hope this is not going to become complicated. :(

is this a YES or NO answer? Help

then suddenly launches an option pass to Uling who is streaking down the sideline... after making a spectacular catch... he eludes one tackle, then another... he laterals back to JimGem and he is going to go
ALL THE WAY four more approvals by the end of next week. best of luck guys and gals!

My fiance will be flying up from Davao for the medical and interview. she will be returning to Davao after medical since planning on taking it earlier than scheduled date. I know you have to allow two days for the medical. On the second day, are you usaully doe by noontime? trying to plan whether she could take 4pm back flight to Davao or best to wait till the next morning. any thoughts appreciated.

On the second day of the medical, it wont be a first come first served basis anymore. It really depends on how fast they process your medical records from the first day of the medical. On my own experience, I was there so early but I wasnt done until 2 pm. I was with a friend and we submitted our reciepts at the same time and she was done way earlier than me, like 10 am. I would suggest just having her fly back to Davao the next day to be sure, hope this helps.

Uggghh, tommorow would be the big day! A little nervous but quite confident, weve done our homework and hopefully Im gonna give you guys the first approval for Nov. God Bless the Manila Thread!

Jenn

according to my fiancee, eventhough the second day for the medical is not first come first serve, if you came early the day before, you are asked to come back the same time next day. his medical was done by 11 am. his flight back was for around 4 pm but he went to Cebu Pacific and changed it to the earlier one at 2 pm for a 100 pesos fee.

i think it's ok to book a flight for her to get back that second day...4 pm is reasonable but in case she runs a little late, she can always rebook for the later one...maybe 6 pm or 7 pm for a fee. i think PAL also has a 100 pesos rebooking fee.

it's just a thought...if she is in Manila by herself...she would probably hate to stay one more night in a hotel.

thanks! 4pm is the latest flight I could find out of Manila to Davao. Your right, she doesn't want to spend anymore time in Manila than she needs to. I let her decide which way she is most comfortable with.

hi roy, i want to say just book it for the third day to be on the safer side. getting out at 4PM is not guaranteed because it depends what time they let you come back the second day. my fiance will have his medical on monday. im stressed out as can be (yeech it's a bad habit) but if anything (if it helps) i can post what time he got done on the second day.

just my 2cents. maybe someone who has taken their medical already can give a clear idea :)

thanks! that's the way i was leaning, since she's not that familar with Manila. I'm starting to get a little stressed out. when first mailed the petition, everything was months away, now it's weeks. and soon it will be days...
