The Medical Examination: From US Embassy Website.

for latest update http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3218.html

The Medical Examination

All visa applicants, regardless of age, need to complete a medical examination at the St. Luke’s Medical Center Extension Clinic (SLMCEC) before the visa interview. Applicants are advised to have their medical examinations done at least one week before their interview appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Manila.

SLMCEC is located at 1177 J. Bocobo Street, Ermita, Manila. They can be reached by telephone at 521-0020 and 521-8647. SLMCEC is open from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is best to arrive for your medical examination between 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Applicants are served on a first come first served basis, but the order of release of the medical reports will depend on the complexity of the results of the medical examination.

What is the cost of the medical examination at SLMCEC?

* The medical exam fee is U.S. $213.35 for adults (15 years and older) and U.S. $185.35 for children (under 15 years of age).
* SLMCEC does not accept credit card or dollar payments. The fees must be paid in Philippine pesos at the prevailing exchange rate.

What is the validity of the medical examination?

* Medical examinations are generally valid for 6 months.

Will chest x-rays be required?

* Children younger than 15 years old will not need a chest X-ray or serological test unless required by the doctor, but will instead undergo a Tuberculin Skin Test.
* According to the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS), chest X-rays for pregnant women are not dangerous if taken with the proper shielding.
* If you have had previous X-rays, please bring them along for a comparative study.

Are blood tests required?

* A blood test to check for HIV is required for applicants that are at least 15 years old. HIV is the virus that causes the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and impairs a person’s immunity against disease.

What should I bring to my medical examination?

* Appointment letter sent by the National Visa Center or an e-mail print out of your appointment sent by the Call Center or the appointment date shown on our website (http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3238.htm)
* Appropriate medical examination fee.
* Passport (valid for at least 6 months)
* Two colored pictures (2 inches x 2 inches) with a white background

What happens after I have my medical examination?

* The medical report, passport and visa pictures are normally submitted by SLMCEC to the U.S. Embassy in Manila. In most cases, only the chest x-ray film and immunization form are given to the applicants in the SLMCEC releasing section.
* The medical examination usually takes two to three working days to process, but can extend up to a few months if there are required tests that need to be completed.

What do I do if I miss my interview appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Manila because of prolonged and/or additional tests conducted by SLMCEC?

* Upon the release of your medical report, SLMCEC will schedule your embassy interview appointment within the next two working days. SLMCEC will give you an appointment slip. You should bring the appointment slip together with your original appointment letter to facilitate entry into the U.S. Embassy in Manila.

Updating list to congratulate Brian-Charisma and Filiricans. Bon voyage to Janess (OrlandoRenaldo) on the 26th.

It is also that time of the month when we start cleaning the list (to make it more manageable) by removing the names of August interviewees who have been approved and received their visas already.

Good luck to tzeksman and RickiandEva on the 17th and bevs&alex on the 18th.

Hi Filiricans! My family and I are well and thank you for asking. That's so kind of you.

Hi,

Just wondering how to choose a good credit cards and open an account to use as one of the proof of our marriage

. Any recommendations?

Thanks smile.gif

really do not need to open a new account. your spouse can have card issued in your name from an existing account. if you want to establish credit in your name, a secured credit card is a good way to start.

I dont really agree with the description of lambing here. Lambing is being affectionate either the "sweet" way or the "brutal" way.

Affectionate or "sweet" lambing could be lots of hugs, sweet talks, compliments all over the place, touches. Lambing in a brutal way.. she would be hitting you with her palm or fist in an affectionate way. Not really meant to harm you.
For oyur description of lambing, you married a woman who does not know what she wants. No offense meant to your wife if this is her way of lambing. Tell her to make up her mind.

- This is the filipina wife speaking.

LAMBING

ah...lambing. next to tampo, probably the second most misunderstood cultural phenomenon of the filipina lifestyle. lambing is when she asks to leave, so you do, then she wants you by her, but she tells you to leave again. or she wants you to take her to a restaurant, so you do, but when you get there she doesnt want to go in so you, frustrated, take her home all angry, and she is angry too, because she wanted to go to the restaurant. honestly, after like 3 years, i dont understand it at all. again, ladies, just be open and honest and direct instead of all that lambing stuff. not "when you go to her she says go away, leave me alone, but when you leave she comes running to you and asking you not to leave"

That has always been my understanding of lambing. good.gif OP, your right there is some misunderstanding about making lambing. whistling.gif
I undestand they may be from your personal observations, but I also find some of your other statements way off base. the title of your thread " American Filipina User Guide " was not the right choice. you have made far too many generaliztions, which I doubt apply to most couples, IMHO.

Well her parents live there in and she has a a child that lives with her parents. She is renting an apartment. I am not sure how much money she will actually need in her bank account for her to be convincing in her interview if everything else about her situation is convincing in the interview. I was wondering also about how long it takes for the process if she is successful?

this is just an observation, but recent deposits into a bank account would be a red flag to a CO. from the information you provided, it seems unlikely she would be able to get a tourist visa. not sure at the present time what the wait is for a visitors visa.

the Pinoy Ako thread was a popular thread. any ideas of what threads to provide links?

the pinned thread section of the forum could use some cleaning up. no need for both off topic and say anything threads. the Manila Embassy Thread never really caught on. members seem to express interest in CFO, St Lukes and Embassy Interviews. Maybe threads could be started for each where members could be post their experiences. If they were pinned, it would be more readily accessible to members looking for info about them.

QUOTE (Mariel_Esteban @ Apr 5 2009, 10:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Want to know just how Filipino you are? Take this less-than-scientific quiz to rate your Filipinoness. You might just be surprised at the results!

Scoring: Give yourself 3 points if you can relate to the following characteristics yourself, 2 points if it relates to an immediate family member (mom or dad) and 1 point if you know of someone who has the characteristic.

(NOTE: This quiz was taken from "The Philippine Review," August 1995 edition.)

MANNERISMS & PERSONALITY TRAITS:

8. You're standing next to eight big boxes at the airport.
9. You collect items from hotels or restaurants "for souvenir's sake."
10. Your house has a distinctive aroma.
11. You smile for no reason.
17. You go bowling
20. You prefer to sit in the shade instead of basking in the sun

Home furnishings
55. You own a karaoke system.
63. You have a shrine to the Santo Nino in your living room

FAMILY:
91. You put hot dogs in your spaghetti.
94. You order things like tapsilog, longsilog, or tocilog at restaurants.
99. Your cupboards are full of corned beef hash, Spam and Vienna Sausages.
100. "Goldilocks" means more to you than just a character in a fairy tale.
101. You appreciate a fresh pot of hot rice.
108. You have a supply of frozen lumpia in the freezer
111. You eat purple yam-flavored ice cream.
115. You know that "chocolate meat" isn't really made with chocolate.

249-345 points: Welcome to America! Judging from your high score, you are an obvious transplant from the Philippines. There is no doubt what your ethnic identity is! You're Filipino, through & through.

173-258 points: Congratulations, you've retained most of the Filipino traits and tendencies your family has instilled in you.

170 and under: You have OFT (Obvious Filipino Tendencies). Go with the flow to reach full Filipino potential. Prepare for assimilation; resistance is futile.

guess I score 48 points...
