Australia and New ZealandNew 2011 LAND DOWNUNDER, Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi
Hello everybody - long time no see! Just popping in to say hi and see how everyone is getting on. My life in a nutshell - baby girl is now 13 months old and a total ratbag! We're heading back to Australia for 2 weeks on the 12th of the month so I'm incredibly excited about that - taking her home to meet the family! I work from home as an independent contractor so that keeps me busy during the day - and we moved into a bigger rental home so we're all a lot more happy these days! I'll be applying for my removal of conditions at the end of this year - can't believe how fast that is coming around.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying their new lives here in the US.

Take care
Carey

Australia and New ZealandNEW ZEALANDers heading to the US and their USC spouses - POST HERE!
Hello everyone :) Another kiwi over here *me* lol but currently living in Oz and filing through Sydney. Hit a slight hiccup after going to the interview this Tuesday, they wouldnt accept my Minstry of Justice criminal background letter and insist on getting the New Zealand Police one which apparently only they can get. So can anyone enlighten me as to how long the NZ Police generally take to do these things? I'm sweating on whether I'm going to be able to leave at the end of the month to make my partners birthday :(

Ta muchly in advance

USCIS Service CentersChecking Case Status

So I just sent my I-129F package!

I'm relieved the first step is done... but how can I check my case status? I'm going to this site:
https://egov.uscis.g...es/Locations.do

But I don't have a receipt number. Do I receive that when I get my NOA?

Thank you!

Heya welcome to the world of the K1 visa :) Once the I-129F has been received a letter (NOA1) will be sent to the USC with a file number on it. Once you have that then you can set up access to the USCIS website. The NOA1 is normally mailed out 3-5 days after the I-129F is received. Good luck :)

I got exactly the same message just now and I only check in once a morning (about 8am Australia time). Funnily enough when I tried to do that this morning it said the website was not available - I suspect it's a glitch.

Cheers

Thanks thats awesome and im oddly better at doing on computer than a scrap book type im finding out:D lol..

Hi There,
Glad to meet you. Yes, that was my whole thing. I was getting so upset with all the cutting, the pasting, buying all the paper, messing things up, starting all over.
Online, if you make a mistake, you just hit delete and start over....sooooooooooooo much easier!

Not sure if it would be of value to any of you, but it is something I have been using to keep track of my pics and it is great for making a photo album.

If you go to
www.shutterfly.com, it is part of TARGET and you can create a profile on there, it is secure, and you can store all of your pictures in there too. So if your PC ever crashes, you have another place that all your pics are stored. Anyway, so I have been making a photo album on there that I am taking back with me to Turkey. I have put all of our pics from our first visit together in there, plus the photo album allows you to add in pages, etc and you can also do txt. The site also lets you pic from 100's of different styles, designs etc. So I have been combining pictures with special letters, poems and e-mails he and I have sent back and forth to each other. After you make the album, your order it and it is shipped to you. I think I am making like a 30 page album, hard cover 8x10 and it is only costing about $30. Not too shabby in my opinion.

Anyway, wanted to share this information with all of you. It is a special project I have that I use during those times where I have restless energy, not quite sure to do with myself and where I can remain positive and focused!

ENJOY!

He won't have a problem getting a visa to come here. He will have to do his military service at some point in the future though, and he has until the age of 38 to do so. When he's here, he will have to goto the turkish consulate and file paperwork every 2 years to request an extension for his military service. He can only get this extension if he can show that he is actually working or attending school here. If he fails to file for this extension in a timely manner, and decides to visit Turkey, he could potentially be taken away and have to serve at that time, or face some sort of trial. They don't take such extreme action until he's flagged as "wanted" by the military and there's a decent grace period if he does fail to file for the extension on a timely manner. (usually they let you get away with a year or two)

Once he's here and working or studying, he will have the option to serve out his military duty in a very short period of time, if he pays an additional fee. The service is for 3 weeks (give or take a few days) and you will have to pay 8500 euros (I believe thats the current rate, I might be off a little though) You lose out on this benefit if he ever goes back to turkey for more than 6 months in a given year.

That's usually the easiest, if he were to serve before coming here, it'll be a minimum of 6 or 9 months.

Hope that helps.

Thank ou so much for the information and I will certainly make sure that he files for his extensions with the Turkish Consulate every two years while he is here to request an extension on his military service. I really appreciate the information. Thanks so much!

I asked my husband what he thought about this situation and here is what he said (not sure how helpful this information will be, maybe you already know it): He thinks that he can definitely get the visa. After your fiance graduates, he can also delay his military duty for 2 years. Efe also thinks that, for example, if your fiance were to go back to Turkey and the military service was overdue, that they would track that when he goes through customs in Turkey. Hopefully you can find a more solid answer.

Great,
Thank you so much for your response. Honestly, any information provided is of great help. Honestly whatever we have to do after the fact we are willing to do, we just did not want this to jeopardize the visa. Now, let me ask you this, he is not scheduled to graduate prior to when we might have his interview for the K-1 Visa, do you think that will be a problem?

Thanks

Question for any of you who might be able to help
I am currently going through the I-129F process with my fiance and I have a question that we have been unable to find the answer to. My fiance is currently a student so he has not served in the Turkish military. Is it possible for him to still be approved to get a K-1 Visa to come here eventhough he has not served in the military? Does anyone know the stipulations around this? If he is able to come without serving in the military will there be any restrictions that could be imposed upon him? I.E if he was approved for the visa to come here, could they (TURKEY) hold him if he returned to Turkey later on and require him to pay monies to the Turkish government in lieu of serving, or could they hold him there and refuse him the right to return to the USA until he serves?

Any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

When I moved here to TX, there was no In and Out and no Carl's in our immediate area. I used to take my son on hour long drives to the nearest Carl's Jr. since he and I were both craving those burgers so I totally know what you are talking about! #######, now I was a Carl's Jr. Burger

Hi everyone,
Don't know if anyone is finding these recipes useful, however, when I was in Turkey last, I made a dish for Kemal's family and it turned out great, so I wanted to share it with all of you. I hope everyone is doing well!

CHICKEN STEW WITH WALNUTS AND POMEGRANATE JUICE (ACEM YAHNISI)

Ingredients:
3 pomegranates
Juice 1 lemon
2 tbsp ghee or butter
2 onions finely chopped
1 medium chicken, jointed
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp sugar
1 1/3 C walnuts crushed
Shredded mint leaves

Directions:

Halve the pomegranates. Extract the juice from 1 1/2 pomegranates. With the other 1 1/2 pomegranates squeeze out all of the juice. Put the seeds and juice in separate bowls. Add lemon juice to the pomegranate juice.

Melt butter or ghee in heavy pan. Stir in onions and fry until they slightly brown. Add the chicken and brown pieces lightly. Pour over the pomegranate and lemon juice, add in cinnnamon and sugar. Season with salt and pepper. Bring liquid to gentle boil, then turn down heat, cover and simmer for 35 minutes. If mixture becomes dry add a little water.

Heat oven to 400 F. Remove chicken from pan after 35 minutes. Sprinkle the walnuts on top of chicken and bake in oven for 10 minutes. Walnuts will brown.

Transfer chicken, cover with juice and sprinkle on the pomegranates and some mint for garnish. Serve

USCIS Service CentersChanges at Texas Service Center?

HK,

The USCIS does not process visas of any kind, so it's unlikely that you would find K1 visa information on a USCIS service center's web pages.
You should find something about I-129f petitions - what kind of information were you looking for?

Yodrak

Does anyone know about any recent changes at the Texas Service Center in Mesquite, TX? I visited the website and cant find anything about a K-1 visa at all.

Thanks
HK in Fort Worth

Well it seems the USIC in Texas doesnt do much at all. I called the 1-800 number and after going through about 5-6 "tiers"(i.e. "for english press 1") I get to the place where I am asked to enter the form I am inquiring about(I-129F) and it says it doesnt recognize the form I am trying to enter. #######? I know I am not crazy because I did this several times and got the same results. Isnt the I-129F the most common of all the frigging forms? Just like the electric company, the gas company, the cable company, the bank etc. They should just have one message that says "you are now living in the 21st century, do not attempt to inquire about anything on the phone. We are busy, now hang up and quit bothering us" I think it would save them alot of money.

Also, am I the only one that has discovered a small but IMPORTANT discrepancy on the USIC website about the fee for an I-129F? One area says $165 and the other place says $170. Which is it? Is it not true that if you do not send in the correct fee your package will be returned? I would gladly pay $200 to the USIC just to avoid this BS, but I am afraid the packet would be sent back.

Texas hasn't processed K1s in a very long time. It will be automatically forwarded to California and your NOA will come from CA - it's normal.

OK, Thanks so much. I just dont understand why they havent changed their website to reflect this. Also, apologies for posting this redundant topic..after posting it, I read some posts that have already addressed this question.

First of all, it will cost a FORTUNE to ship this stuff to the US. Second, the voltage which powers his equipment may not even be compatible here and could cost another small fortune to have it converted. Third, the fuel efficiency, power, octane level etc is much different on cars here than in Brasil. Same for exhaust emmissions standards, so even if he brought it all here and had it reworked to operate on our electricity, it probably wouldnt help him with automobiles in the US. My advise would be to sell all of it in Brasil for as much as he can and use the money to buy new stuff here. More than likely he can buy it all here cheaper anyway. He will probably need some classes as well to learn about the differences in our testing equipment and applications. Some tech jobs offer ongoing training as standard perk because the auto engine technology changes so fast even in just a few years.

hope this helps

Hi,
We got news that our interview will be scheduled for next month, so we are trying to get all these little questions answered so that we can organize ourselves.

My husband is Brasilian and he works as a mechanic. He has automobile diagnostic equipment that comes to a grand total of about $7,000-$9,000 USD (minus his $10,000 laptop) which he bought in Brasil. Anyway, we are wondering if he will have to pay tax on these items he wants to bring with him when we move to the U.S. Of course, he would like to be able to use them for work, so would they be considered items for "commercial use"?

He also has two laptops, both of them are very expensive, but we could claim them under "items for personal use". I just don't know about the other equipment. Any advice? or is there somewhere we can check on the internet to find out what is allowed if bringing items related to your occupation?

Oh, I don't know if this makes a difference, but he doesn't have a job offer--we're going over on a marriage-based visa.

I expected my husband here by Christmas the latest Never heard of going through clearance - Everyone we knew took less than 3 months to enter US. But he had his interview and was told it would be 4-6 weeks - BULL #######! More like 4- 8 months if we are lucky.

WE believe nothing anyone says anymore!

I think I will move to Istanbul first before he is allowed to enter here! .

WE are miserable and the not knowing is so hard on a marriage!

Does anyone know who issues the AOS NOA1's - are they done by the Chicago office where we sent all our AOS to or are they done by the field office who will be processing our AOS?

My check was cashed a week ago but I've received no NOA1's - nothing electronically or in the mail. If they're coming out of Dallas that wouldnt surprise me as we were shut down for 4 days from Tuesday onwards due to weather but if they're coming from somewhere else....

Sorry I forgot to mention that the privacy form I signed for them to get the New Zealand police check was emailed to me by the Sydney Consulate at the time we were doing packet 3. I had sent the immediate form back and was awaiting medical results before sending back the balance of packet 3 requirements. It was at that time they emailed and said we notice you lived in New Zealand blah blah sign this. I emailed back and said do I need to as I already have a letter from the NZ Ministry of Justice. They didnt reply so I decided to sign the consent form and send back anyway. Am glad I did because when I was at the interview was when they turned around and said no the Ministry of Justice letter is not accepted and your visa decision is now pending the return of the New Zealand police check. By the time it arrived and they approved me was about 4 weeks after I had sent the consent form back. If I hadnt sent it and had waited until the interview then that would have been another months delay.

The New Zealand police check needs to be arranged by the Sydney consulate. They will send you a privacy consent form to sign and they then post it off. You cannot get it from NZ Police direct. The best you can get is a letter from NZ Ministry of Justice confirming you have no criminal convictions but they will not accept it. The good news is that from the time of the privacy form being returned to Sydney to the time they receive the PC from NZ is about 4 weeks. They continued with my visa processing and even scheduled an interview however I was not approved nor my visa issued until a week after the interview when the PC arrived.

My Queensland police check only took about a week and the Brisbane Medical Centre wont schedule a medical without your SYD file number :)

Well done on getting into this stage :D

Thanks Vanessa - I wasnt too bothered by the immigration side of things. My question related more to the fact I've been added to Ted's medical insurance despite the fact I have no social security number yet. An unexpected turn of events means that I'll be needing to make use of the insurance but I wanted to see if there was going to be the possibility they could deny the coverage based on my status or lack thereof...
