What do you think about this sad.gif I got a reply from Scotland police today saying chris police report was mailed out sept 12 but it has not arrive but when the lady said the SCOTTISH reply was sent that date i was like hmmm wait i thought she said her check includes both England and Scotland!!! So i write her back and she says well they send it over to England too so i called England and how about they say they do not have him in their computer NOWHERE anyways they are checking on it with scotland. My question is , he was only there for 3 months so maybe i dont have to worry abt England???? He was in Scotland right after England for a few years. Next worry or concern is that he was over there this entire time on a passport!!! back in 2002 i do believe i have to check the forms Do you think this will at all come up in the interview or cause a problem helpsmilie.gif

I don't know if I'm much of a help but your SO situation sounds like my cousin. He was living in England for several yrs (want to say maybe 5), then him and girl went to JA so get married. Well the filed for him to get a visa and they were denied at the High Commissioner b/c he overstayed his time. However, he has a US visitor visa and he's in NY right now. I don't think they will affect him b/c it's two separate countries, but like I said before you might want to ask around.

Also according to NVC you don't need a police cert from a country unless you were there at least 6 months.

Yeh im completely worried about this as he did not have any form of visa while there in the UK he said that the government gave them some kind of papers to go to school and also got them housing, them meaning he and his kids mom. She is still there and in school. So im praying that this will not cause us any issue. He said something about filing for assylum? and that got denied? and he had to go home but how is it that the government let them stay and get them an apartment? about filing for assylum? and that got denied? This is not too clear to me and he says he has no papers from being there he threw them away. I get bits and pieces of the story each time i ask im gonna check one more time on this.

oooops....
OK so my question is... what if you weren't able to get his call (at work) and couldn't have made that call??? I already know that is going to be my issue....UGH>>>Happy for you ...too bad we can't just photocopy those packets and then when our SO never get them from the embassy .... we could already have them. (hmmm sounds like a business idea??) good.gif

EXACTLY its totally insane to give a person an appoinment and send them home with nothin lol i dont get it. He even gave the lady the email stating that he was supposed to come in for an appointment sad.gif lol its from them!! they told him to come lol funny i swear i wish i could change jobs and work at that place and get it organized! I wonder how much they pay id consider it. Seriously. Either they are plain mean or dunno whats goin on

Oh boy.... fiance went to embassy today to get his packets he never got!!! never got 3 or 4....mind you embassy emails him sayin come in on sept 20 at 12:30 to get it so he treks up there for them to tell him they not giving him NOTHING!!!!! i was bullistic!!! i said wait outside dont go nowhere here i am callin embassy in tears and frustration actually a nice lady answered i tell her what happen and that they told chris we cant give u the interview letter until ONE WEEK BEFORE IT IF YOU HAVENT GOTTEN IT IN MAIL!!! that is our policy.!! oh nooooo.... i said well did u tell them u have an oct 1 medical! and u need it he says yes and so were yellin and fussin! so i when i talked to the lady i explained this and she said yes he cant get it till one week prior! this is policy i said ok but doesnt he need the letter for his medical on oct 1, how can he go without it so she puts the fon down and asks, what is the time between medical and interview for the IV applicants, then i hear hold music, then she returns, says where is ur fiance i say outside so she says tell him to come back in and she will talk to him, he supposedly initially spoke to the supervisor when he was in there, so he fusses sayin hes not going back in there again today if they dont give him nothing this time hes goin home!! oh boy, stubborn, then i call back then min later hes sounding like a new person he says she gave me both packets and said she was not supposed to but she did cuz i called. ....um someone please tell me why did i have to call for him to give him what is due him!!!!! why!!! they are ### backwards!

Three days of 'Curefest' in western Jamaica
published: Thursday | September 20, 2007

Reggae artiste Jah Cure addresses journalists at the launch of 'Curefest', a series of concerts, at the Cable and Wireless Golf Acadamy on Tuesday. - Colin Hamilton/Freelance Photographer

Singer Jah Cure will make his first major performance in Jamaica since his release from prison on the third and last day of his very own 'Curefest', slated for Friday, October 12, to Sunday, October 14, in Trelawny and St. James.

And when he performs on Longing For, the climactic concert at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium in Greenwood, he will be far from alone. Dennis Howard of Jahmento Productions outlined an extensive line-up of performers to those gathered for the official 'Curefest' launch at the Cable and Wireless Golf Academy, New Kingston, on Tuesday evening.

Among the nearly 50 scheduled performers are Morgan Heritage, Cocoa Tea, Lady Saw, George Nooks, Tarrus Riley, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Capleton, Ninja Man, Queen Ifrika, Barrington Levy, TOK, Wayne Marshall, Mavado and Prodigal Son. Howard also announced that Beres Hammond is the big surprise for 'Curefest'.

Line of performers

Hammond is not the only standout performer whose name was not on the screen who will also be a part of 'Curefest', as Karen Smith will be performing, along with Etana and Live Wyya, at the festival opening 'Reflections', an all-white birthday party for Jah Cure, which will be hosted by the singer at the Starfish Hotel in Trelawny.

On Saturday, October 13, the festival moves to Pier 1 in Montego Bay, St. James, for '45 Cures', a selector spin-off which will pit radio disc jockeys against sound systems and selectors. Among those who will play are Danger Zone, ZJ Liquid, Black Chiney, DJ Wayne, Little Richie, DJ Sunshine, Sky Juice, DJ Sparks, Stone Love, ZJ Nikki Z, Fire Links and ZJ Chrome.

Guest speaker Leachim Semaj, using examples from the books of James, John and Matthew in the Bible, noted that "talent is neutral". He said that while the talent that you have is God's gift to you, what you do with that talent is your gift to God."

President of the Jamaica Federation of Musicians (JFM) Desi Young said: "On behalf of the JFM, this is an endorsement of talent that has impressed, but the circumstances led to some absence. The fraternity is united in its support for this artiste (Jah Cure) going forward, showcasing this talent that the world has come to gravitate to."

Allan Green of the Western Society for the Upliftment of Children, which along with the Alpha Boys School will benefit from 'Curefest' gave thanks for the "timely donation".

OMGoodness!!! I'm so jealous!! I WANT TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! crying.gif crying.gif That's right in Ken's backyard!! JALOVE will be down there then...I wonder if she'll go! That sounds like an AMAZING concert!!! Thanks for sharing JG...I'm calling Ken right now to tell him! (That's another $10 on October's phone bill no0pb.gif -whatcha gonna do?) This is BIG news!! First of all EEEEEEK for that ugly bug! JG was not the only one with the willies upon seeing it! lol

Happy belated birthday to Rhonda and congrats on the new house! kicking.gif

Good luck and safe trips to those upcoming interviewees! good.gif

And for whoever else I missed sorry, had too many pages to read! lol

Thanks for the well wishes on my upcoming wedding, we have been so busy trying to plan it as well as finding someone to braid Marlon's hair inexpensively! We got our wedding license yesterday. Now we are waiting for the Bishop my friend contacted to get back to us. We are hoping for October 13.

Marlon is adjusting very well, no issues at all. He eats about everything without a complaint, he just tells me if it is something he doesn't prefer. He has met most of my closest friends and my sister and niece, so far all is well! Marlon is the quiet type surrounded by noisy and crazy people but he takes it well! lol

I can bet how excited you are. Enjoy the planning and I pray you have a wonderful day. Don't let it stress you out too much, it's the marriage that counts good.gif

I keep telling myself that girl! lol Thankfully I have some super friends who are carrying parts of the load for me!

You'll be fine...when you're looking into his eyes and say I do, that's when you see that it was all worth it in the end. I can't tell you how much TRYING to get married stressed me and we got married in our pastor's office laughing.gif laughing.gif

You will be in our thoughts at 1:30 PM 9/21!!!!

I'm late but me too, I have to cook three meals, one for me, the kids and then hubby blink.gif

Craig eats absolutely everything....well except for broccoli. I've cooked everything, every which way and he eats every last drop... never ever complains. I just throw dishes together and he jokes that I'm trying to kill him. I am the one that just can't stomach ackee and calaloo, actually most jamaican food. He makes dumplings and they are okay. He makes the best darn chicken dishes!! He says he doesn't really "miss" jamaican food, sometimes he would like to have some...but there's no JA restaurants close to us and the one place we went to (30 min from us)....just way too darn expensive!!

We arrived about 6:00am and started waiting in line. We were called in about 7:00 am went in after clearing security. We went to windo 12A dropped of papers tax return, no Impediment, Ds230 Part II, Ds156, Ds 156k, DS157, I 134 with job letter and pay stubbs along with bank statements. My income was a little below for 2006 I was able to use savings and 401k to supplement income. We were then call to windo 16A for finger prints. Was told to wait for name to be called. About 8:35 was called to Windo #22A. We handed in the bank statement since they were not asked for at the first window. Was told to go sit far away while they interview my fiance'. He was asked where we met, the name and age of my kids, How often we talk on the phone, How often I visited, We filed for me to go to America and Why was I divorced from my first husband. My fiance' stumbled on the divorce details and I was called to window #22A to be interviewed alone. Was asked the same questions but Officer was concern that we did not discussed my previous divorce in details. I have been divorced for over 14 years and had several relationships after so did not know that I should tell my fiance' all the dirty details. My fiance' told me that his heart was racing like a car engine. He was called back to window and was asked to give in his passport. She then stated fill out pink paper and we were told to go to airpak accross the street We hugged and kissed and was walking on cloud nine. Wedding date is planned for October 17, 2007. Hoping visa is received in two weeks.

Congrats! im up here smiling just reading your story!!

did I say I did ? do u ever think why someone of these ppl go the illegal route..they make it almost impossible for anyone to get a visa. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with braking laws and going against rules, but if they grant a couple extra work visas so ppl can get out of the country and provide better for their families then maybe fraud wouldn't be so high. If u look at it alot of ppl who leave JA is to come make money that in JA u have to work a whole year and go back home to better than what they had. That's all I'm saying. they lock up plenty of people in this country everyday for having weed on them do they get a blood test to see if they're using? They get fined depending on the quantity and released back into society, are they still going to USE ILLEGAL drugs ?

Well, do you really expect the Embassy to let anyone and everyone have a visa? I don't blame them one bit. If someone tests positive for drug use, it's safe to assume they're going to continue to use drugs when they come to the U.S. - which is ILLEGAL! So why would they let them have a visa?

Can I ask you guys something about the work visas? Does anyone know anything about them?

Reason I ask.....we have some friends who have come to the US on those work programs. They are forever calling and saying they are hungry and need us to send them some cash. How do they pay these people? Do you guys know if housing is charged against salary? And, what kind of preparation is needed on the part of the applicants?.....I mean, like cash reserves or something? It just seems to me, the people we know are ill prepared to come on these programs.

Anyone know anything about these?

Only thing i know is that my fiances ex has one of those they sent her to florida i think she works in a hotel but works more hours than we normally do and she gets paid nine dollars an hour

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update. Mr Jengles went to carnival with me on Monday at first he didn't want to go. I had to drag him out the house... It was also his first time on the subway, he couldn't believe it went under the ground especially when we had to go down 2 flights to get to our train. U should have seen him jump when the door he was leaning on opened. lol

He wants to get to a job to "play his part" is how he puts it and save quicker for a bigger place. He's been doing a lot of work around the house and saving me a lot of money so I'm happy with that for right now . According to the new york state website he doesn't need a SS# to get a licsense but he says he needs more time to get used to the idea.

I had to speak to him about calling his friends from the cellphone QUESTION - he put money on his digicell but he can't get it to work..he can see missed calls..but can't get or make calls...does anyone know how to make it work..I had a digicell phone that worked here in the U.S.

Having him around is great, I just wish I could get him out of the house more.

Oh we went to a Jamaican dance on Saturday, he had a good time. We also went to a calypso backyard party on Saturday he didn't have a good time there. He actually asked when can we leave. lol

He thinks "foreign" is nice but only if you have a job. Which I think is a good thing for him to realize. Sometimes he watches those shows like Maury and Jerry Springer and thinks Americans are crazy...

Bye for now

hi, when calling back to ja is he adding a 1 before the area code ? if no you can contact cingular to have them troubleshoot

Hey Guys happy labor day smile.gif I was just sitting here thinking. Is there any difference in the scheduling of K3 as opposed to K1 interview scheduling? I notice there are some K3 that have return their DS230 before some K1 and the K1 gets an interview date sooner. I hear that the computer generates the dates but what do they base that on? Im wondering if the computer just spits out a date and the embassy personel just print out a list daily of those to send interview letters to!! i wish i could be a fly on the wall as to how this part of the proces works unsure.gif

FOR THOSE TRAVELING TO JA BE CAREFUL !!
-------------------------------------------------------

Embassy of the United States of America, Kingston, Jamaica

Warden Message
August 31, 2007
This Warden Message is being issued to alert American citizens traveling to and residing in Jamaica to the possibility of increased political and social tensions, and the potential for violence, related to the upcoming general election. The general election in Jamaica has been rescheduled to September 3, 2007. As the election approaches, media have reported increased levels of politically motivated violence.

The Embassy has been advised that both major political parties have scheduled rallies in Kingston on Saturday, September 1. These rallies are expected to be held in relatively close proximity, increasing the potential for violence. The PNP rally is scheduled to occur at Crossroads, and the JLP rally is scheduled to occur at Coronation Market. Both rallies are planned for Saturday afternoon and evening, although exact times are not known at this time. We wish to remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence at any time. American citizens are encouraged to avoid areas where mass assemblies and demonstrations are expected to occur.

During the run up to the election and particularly on election day, the U.S. Embassy advises that the public exercise particular vigilance and pay heed to the following issues.

Learn where areas of congestion may occur. Be alert to news and radio announcements of areas of particular congestion, plan to avoid such areas as much as possible, and exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. Avoid large crowds and gatherings whenever possible.

Expect heavier traffic than usual throughout the island on election day.

Advise any personnel/visitors planning to travel to/through/from Jamaica that the general election has been called for September 3.

Always drive with your vehicle windows up and doors locked.

Avoid wearing orange, green or yellow clothing during the period leading up to the election and on election day. These colors are politically significant and may incite reactions by others.

American citizens in Jamaica who require emergency assistance can contact the Embassy at (876) 702-6000. Additional information is available in the Consular Information Sheet for Jamaica at http://travel.state.gov and on the Embassy web page at http://kingston.usembassy.gov/ .

For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Internet website at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings can be found. Up to date information on safety and security can be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll-line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, except on U.S. federal holidays.

Hey my good people, my VJ family, I want to say thanks to all of you, geez it has been a rough journey and I know the most challenging part is probably yet to come but at least I will be with my SO. I want to extend my most sincere appreciation for all the help and encouragement I got here, no way I could have done this without you all, and that is not cliche by any stretch of the imagination.

On behalf of Ven, I sincerely thank you all for everything. I met some of wonderful people here that I'm sure will be lifetime friends. Sometimes you never know where life is going to take you, I'm glad mine led me to the VJ board because of you all.

For all those at various stages of this process, I say hang on in there, time will pass faster than you can imagine and today you are one step closer to your dream, and may your hearts be comforted as you continue on your journey...don't despair, you will get there. Thanks again.

You have me a lil teary eyed here i feel ur joy and everyone else who weathered this process and received their visas. I hope i get there! VERY soon....

I was just taking a look at the new immigration fees (I know I'm a little late) but man! I told him that we are going to need some time before he comes up. He might have to wait like 4 months or so. They are high!! That is a sure way to discourage people from filing or at least fake filing. Thats crazy.

What kinds of jobs have you all encourage your SO to go for once they come over on a K-1 or any visa for that matter? I have been looking in his field (certified plumber) here in Philadelphia but i'm not sure he will be able to jump right into that. He might have to go back to school for recertifications from here and all types of things. How long does it usually take for them to get a job when they first come over? Sorry if you are sick of answering these questions but i'm very very concerned!

Shonnie ask away I think we should talk more on this subject b/c some ppl don't seem to realize reality sets into place once their SO arrives. I also have been thinking about the same thing and I think it just depends on your SO and what kind of training his has. For me I have a friend who is a recruiter at a local temp agency and hire ppl for a local co doing packing for 3rd shift. It's not the greatest job but it's a paycheck nonetheless. Javon wouldn't have it any other way. I'm thinking of maybe that and attending classes to get his GED. He eventually would love to go back to school and get certified in either carpentry or something else.

It depends on the person i would say because i have a friend who has been here six years and he married in JA then came here. He had his school certificate from JA and he started workng with cable companies and installing alarm systems. He worked for cable and wireless in JA doing something similar. But, he now has his Bachelors degree and is now starting to work on his Masters this fall. But he was fine without going to school. It depends on what kind of student you were when there, were u able to learn what you needed while in school. Just like here some folks pass school but did not learn anything or may have had a learning disablity. He may be fine when he gets here as he already has his certificate thats a plus:) If you can read and write i think your fine.

So Melvin was scheduled to go for his medical exam today in Mobay but then they called and said for him to come tomorrow 8/22 so we will see how that goes. We are not even sure if the he will be able to get to Mobay due to the uprooted trees and electricity poles down on the streets. We are hoping for a positive outcome tomorrow. He still has no electricity in Bala Clava, some of Santa Cruz, and Mulgrave. He has been talking to me since the hurricane and immediately turning off both phones. Melvin did find a Juicy Beef in Santa Cruz, bought something to eat and drink, and then used an outlet to charge his phone under the table. Of course he had to act like he wasn't loittering blush.gif blink.gif .

If he doesn't get to go to the medical tomorrow, I am afraid that he will not have it back in time. I told him that we would still go to the embassy anyway. But really, whats the sense of me going to JA if I know that he will receive a blue paper because of his missing medical exam? Yes, to see him but the main reason was to accompany him at the interview. Quite frankly, I am a little confused helpsmilie.gif . It will cost me $100 dollars to change the ticket and he would probably be rescheduled for another interview date once the medical exam comes in. We'll see. Maybe I am just jumping the gun and over exaggerating (hype).

Any great words of wisdom? Thanks very much appreciated.

I think you should still go. Mr. Man got rescheduled for tomorrow also and I heard that now they give you the medical report in a sealed envelope to take to the interview. So don't fret yourself.

that would be wonderful to get it same day or two days later and take it with you they should have expedited medicals since everything else seem to have an expedited option
